Instructions: When pressing-and-holding the search key button for the first time after installing the app one will see a menu like this:
Check "use by default for this action" and choose LaunchKey to complete the action.
To do: implement more system functions, assign a customizable menu to the longpress search key (done).
Open for requests.
Changelog
v1.2.1 (nov 5): Fixed bluetooth toggle issue
* v1.2 (nov 1): Now with a customizable shortcut menu.
* v1.1: added possibility to assign system functions to longpress search key (bluetooth, wifi, airplane mode toggle + home screen swither)
Thanks this is great!

Thanks. I like to know if adding some system functions (as described in the first post) will add anything substantial to this app. I myself don't have any need for it, but maybe other users?
For me, a great function to add would be MEDIA_NEXT to skip to the next track without having to turn on the screen

Actually, that's a great idea (for devices that can turn on the device with the search button). On the Desire HD with its capacitive buttons this isn't possible, unfortunately . Can you turn on your device with the search button... ? And when you hold it, will it launch one of the assigned apps?
doesn't seem to work on my droid x. long pressing the search key doesn't seem to do anything. a short press brings up search though.

Have you assigned the app to the long press search action? It's standard Android, tested it on several virtual machines on the emulator.
Would be weird if the droid X doesn't support that. That would be inconsistent indeed.
I have come across some interesting behaviour.
I have an HTC Wildfire, stock 2.1 but rooted, with LauncherPro as my homie.
I installed Launchkey, configured the app I want to start by long-pressing (namely, Camera), hit back, then long-pressed search. It started Camera, as it should. No problems there.
But while I was inside the Camera app, I long-pressed it again, to see if it opens another camera on top of Camera so I can shoot in 3D. Alas, it did not! Instead, it opened the HTC Sense UI (which has been off for about a month, since I use LauncherPro).
What gives?

It looks like that some apps can override the long press key binding if they get focus. In some apps search is triggered also when long press the search button (for example in Root Explorer) .. It seems in your camera app they decided to launch Sense. In my camera app the press-and-hold button is disabled (Desire HD)

yea i set an app. set a few different ones, but no luck with any.
Not working on Galaxy S
I have rooted 2.2 JPM and it doesn't work. It installs and lets me choose an app to start but wherever i try i brings up the search rather then the app i chose. I've tried with several apps and still not working, re-booted several times to no avail.

No, the search button doesn't wake the device . I have an HTC Hero CDMA so I have the hardware buttons.
I think it wont work with the Galaxy S unfortunately because it doesnt have a dedicated Search Button. The search is activated by long pressing the Menu Button...

Sorry, what I meant was, did you choose LaunchKey to complete the press-and-hold search button action and set it to default?
After installing LauchKey you should get a window like this when you longpress the search button:
If not, uninstall the app and install it again. Android should give you this dialog (Standard Android behavior that I can't influence)

Great idea. No problem, will add it to the next update.
Keep the suggestions coming! What about a possibility to add widgets to the launch menu? (Or would this be a bit redundant)

HomeSmack allows you to change your default Home or default Long-search app. It's similar to Home Switcher or Home Manager, but uses a method of selecting the default that works well with Android 2.2.
HomeSmack also has some special Motoblur features (that need more testing, hence posting to the Droid X subforum)! On rooted phones it lets you change the double-tap app to any app on your phone (QuickDesk or Powerstrip!) and it lets you install a patched VoiceSearch APK that:
1) Sends the standard android SEARCH_LONG_PRESS intent letting you select any normal long-search app.
2) Still lets you select VoiceSearch as the long_search app or use it normally from Launcher
3) Patches the security flaw noted here (http://www.androidcentral.com/droid-2-bug-allows-anyone-make-calls-passcode-screen)
1.0
Renamed package to com.teslacoilsw.homesmack and posted to Market
beta3
• Allows you to chose "Nothing" for double-tap
• If VoiceSearch is not installed it will prompt you to install the hacked version (no need to install it to /system)

Rooted 2.2 Droid X user here...
I really appreciate the effort you are putting into fixing this issue us Droid X/2 users have been having. I have really missed Quickdesk.
That being said, this isn't working for me. Here is my issue:
Setting QuickDesk as my double-tap action works when I'm on my home screen. However, if I am in an app, double-tap home brings me to the home screen, quickly brings up QuickDesk, and then quickly closes it so I'm just looking at my home screen. This happens both with QuickDesk set as my default home, and with Launcher Pro set as my default home.
I'd be happy to give you any extra info you need to fix this issue because I really want this feature to work
Edit: I dunno if this is possible or not, but maybe an option to make the home double tap do nothing, so QuickDesk can just do its thing like on other phones?

This would be my request also.
I'm not on BlurHome any longer. Running Rubix 1.6, but I missed the DoubleTapHome option. (doesn't work at all in Blur-less ROMS).
Downloaded this app and it does give me that capability back. Just wanted to confirm that this cool little app has functionality for people not on Blur!
Wow! What a wonderful little piece of hackery! Thank you for helping me love my Droid X just a little bit more ... great work!
Two things:
When you replace the long search with a different app (I chose PowerStrip) It takes a while for it to respond.
When changing the double tap... it took FOREVER for the menu to come up with the list of apps/activities to choose from.
But it DO work... and I will be using it.
**Edit** - #1 seems to be pretty responsive now... I guess it was the initial opening of PowerStrip
Working long press search on my droid x! This is amazing. Thanks
One note: app seems to be a tiny bit buggy when selecting which app longsearch should open. After I set it, it resets itself a few times but eventually it sticks.
Using ADW on DroidX 2.2, When I'm in an App, say, the Browser, when I double tap it just takes me back home instead of to Quick Desk. The only way I can get to Quick Desk is if I'm already on the homescreen, which is kinda defeating the purpose of quick desk.
Thanks for trying though! Keep at it

Same issue here
I'm using Rubix 1.6 and my DoubleTap is set to 'Phone' (Dialer).
I went into Opera Mini and a couple of other Apps and double tapped and it took me into the dialer just fine.
Your issue may be related to Quick Desk?
Droid X
It is a great concept, but long pressing search doesnt work on Droid x and the double tap takes me right back to the home screen and then pulls quickdesk up.

Longpress search works fine for me. For double tap, you have to go into QD prefs and increase the double tap time from 300ms to higher. I use 700. Then it works great. The physical buttons seem to have trouble recognizing multiple clicks in quick succession. Tap, wait a short while, tap again. Tapping twice immediately wont work, or at least that's my experience on my dx.

If you are running a custom ROM, then you may not have Voice Search installed.
Go download Voice Search (From Google) from the market. Then longpress search should work

I had this problem. What weirdly worked for me was: download the hacked voice search through the app, then run it directly from your launcher. Then, in the homesmack app, launch the app you want to run via search long click, then click that RV notification in your notification bar to return to homesmack, the use the button on the bottom to set the default long search action. I'm running gesture bar just fine on my droid x using Long click search now!

One of my pet peeves with my phone. Wow! Works perfectly. Thank you!
Hi,
This is my first Android app, NBLauncher. It's a simple app that let you add shortcuts to apps as buttons in the notification bar (expanded view), so you can quickly launch an app from anywhere (as long as you have access to the notification bar). I've seen similar apps on the Android market, but I haven't seen one that uses multiple buttons/apps on the same notification line. NBLauncher currently allows a maximum of 15 buttons (three lines of five). After installing, launch NBLauncher from app drawer to configure what apps you want to add to notification bar. Use the up/down arrows to rearrange the order of the buttons. Make sure to click "Done" when exiting. You'll then see the NBLauncher icon on the notification bar. Pull down the notification and you'll see the buttons to launch your app. It also saves the list of apps so you when reboot the phone, it auto-starts with your configured list.
Two minor things that I haven't figure out. Maybe you guys could help.
1. Each notification line requires it's own notification icon in the bar. So if there are three lines of buttons, there will be three separate icons. I have made only one visible and the others invisible, but I have no idea how to get rid of the invisible icons while keeping the notification. Any ideas?
2. During installation of the app, Android lists accessing phone book/contact as one of the things that the app does. But I am not touching the phone book or any contact info. How can this be? How does it determine what an app could do? Based on permission? This obviously has an negative effect of scaring people away from the app
Feed backs and suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
can you give us a little screenshots before we give it a go?..
Nice, I like it, much better then App Launcher, which costs $2 right now.
I couldn't find it in the Market though, did you pull it?
Only complaint so far is that it doesn't play well with lcd density changes. I'm set at 161, so the UI is a little cramped when setting up, but the launcher in the notification tray scales perfectly and looks good. There are several market apps that don't scale well with density changes, so it's not even that big of a deal. Spare Parts, MixZing, Mint.com, and Shazam don't either, just to name a few.
Gratuitous screen shot,

If minSdkVersion is not set in AndroidManifest.xml, it assumes a minimum version of 1. In the SDK version 4(ish?), a few new permissions were added, so if minSdkVersion is below that, those permissions are included whether you need them or not. Read Phone State was among these.
TopShelf10,
I only tested the app on Droid X (my phone) and Evo 4G. Haven't test it on Samsung Galaxy series yet. I noticed button events in the notification view behave differently on Droid X and Evo 4G, so I had to code around it. I guess it's different again on the Galaxy phones. Sure. As long as you site the source and keep me updated on any findings so I can update my app accordingly.
To be more specific, I think the problem is how button events/intents are handled vs. default intent of the notification content view. I'll try to post some code when I get home.

MIUI for Beginners
Source: http://en.miui.com/a-10.html
Already flashed MIUI ROM? OK, pick up your phone now, let’s start our happy journey of MIUI ROM.
The first step: selecting apps
Various apps will greatly enrich your cell phone, so firstly let’s select the apps to your taste. Use the Android Market and download what you would like. If you are using a backup app and restoring apps from a previous ROM, only restore the apps and not the data. Otherwise that will create a lot of force close issues.
Tip: How to copy files from the computer to the phone? First connect your phone to your computer via data cable, pull down the notification panel from the top of the phone, click “USB connected”, and then click "Turn on USB storage”.
After copying, do not forget to select the option of “Turn off USB storage”, otherwise "File Manager” in the phone will not be able to find the sd card, as it is being occupied by the computer.
Now I have a lot of apps, how to put them in order?
All apps successfully installed are listed on the desktop, however, they may not be in the order you want, how to put them in order?
Long press an app icon and then you may move it freely. When it is moved to the screen border, the screen will automatically switch to the next screen.
How to add a screen? Use two fingers to pinch on the desktop to enter screen thumbnail mode. Then you may add or delete screens.
How to delete an app? Long press the app icon you want to delete, drag it on top of the trash box and click OK to delete it.
The second step: let's make your phone different.
A phone without style is nothing remarkable, so let’s make your phone different!
Changing wallpaper: Click Menu button on the desktop, select “Change Wallpaper” to replace the wallpaper. In addition to the existing wallpaper in the phone, thousands of pieces of wallpaper are also available online.
Changing theme: Themes make great changes to your interface style. Click “Theme Manager” on the desktop to select the theme you like. Also, more online themes are available online.
Scott's Newest Theme: http://goo.gl/MnqMZ
Selecting ringtones and more: click “Settings” on the desktop to set call and notification ringtones. In “Personalization” under “Personal” tab, you may find more options.
The third step: it’s time for some advanced techniques!
Well, you are no longer a beginner now, so let’s learn some advanced techniques.
Adding widgets on the desktop: press the Menu button on the desktop, select "Edit Mode", and then click the icon on the upper right corner to access the interface of “Add Widgets”. Choose your favorite widget on the top, and then drag it to the screen below.
Using folders to manage desktop apps: in the interface of “Add Widgets”, drag [Folder] to the desktop. You may drag multiple apps into folders to classify them. After opening the folder, you may click the edit icon in the upper left corner to rename the folder.
Using toggles panel to improve efficiency: drag the notification panel down from the top, click "Toggles" to go to the toggles panel (It goes to the toggles panel in default of notice.) On the panel are listed the most commonly used toggles, you may click to quickly enable or disable a toggle. Long press on the icon will launch the settings for that icon.
Guest mode: enable the “Guest Mode” toggle in the panel, and your calls and text messages logs will be hidden, and all installed applications cannot be removed. You may have a try when you need to show your phone to guests or children.
Importing contacts or binding accounts: you may use some apps to import a batch of contacts, or bind Google account directly in "Settings"> "Personal"> "Accounts & Sync Settings" to sync contacts at any time.
How to print screens? Press "Menu" key and "Volume Down" key at the same time to print a screen. The printed image is saved in the directory of MIUI in the SD card.
How to copy files from the computer without using the data cable? In case of a Wi-Fi connection, enter “File Manager” on the desktop, select the tab of "Remote Administration" to start the service, and then you will get an address. Enter the given address on the computer, then you may copy files without using a data cable!
After seeing the port to the Nook Color using CM7, I was expecting this, not this fast, but expecting it. Can't wait to check it out
amazing, cant wait to flash
Done! Looks great! Highly customizable. But I'm not familiar with miui, looks like I'll have to get used to no app drawer?? I don't want to install Adw or anything else like that until after I get a good feel for the battery life.
Edit: Forum title changed. This comment and next are for 1.7.22

Video
It wont play videos on the sd card or on the internet(4 example youtube wont play, flash support doesnt play video) or record any video.
But everything else works.
Needs some tweaks, but awesome nonetheless!
First, just wanted to say thanks to the devs for being boss and showing some love to the D2 (lord knows it needs it). It's much appreciated.
Second, here are some of the bugs I have encountered with this version of MIUI:
1) Camera/camcorder don't work at all.
2) Auto rotate doesn't work in some places like the launcher or dialer (Not sure if this is really a bug).
3) Holding home from the lock-screen doesn't launch the torch. The screen shows up but there is no light.
4) Holding menu and volume down doesn't take screen-shots.
5) Vibrate on key press for the virtual keyboard (this applies to third party ones too like Swiftkey) doesn't work.
6) YouTube videos won't play in the YouTube app or in browser.
7) Boot animations wont change in the theme manager.
8) Some apps won't install at all (i.e. Tweetdeck) and wont show up in the market.
9) Can't boot into recovery using power button + vol down. Have to use bootstrapper.
Any suggestions on how to fix these would be appreciated. Of course, if I have to wait until Friday for the next release, then so be it.
TBH, none of these are that major (except for maybe #8), so no rush.
edit: Found one more bug.

Question: I just need to wipe the cache (not a full wipe) before flashing, right? It's just an update? Thanks again!
Pretty good, except no audio comes through my Bluetooth headset. It shows that the headset is paired and connected, but no audio comes through it on phone calls. Is anyond else experiencing this issue?

Any way to get rid of the Verizon Wireless in the notification bar?
Anyone get screen shots to work?

I'm back to CM7. Seeing all the apps spread over the screen panels, as well as the nonworking bluetooth connection make this a virtually unusable ROM for me. I now know that I would never switch from Android to IOS.

Quick Reboot: easy, fast, simple. All-in-one reboot manager!
*** This app requires root access to work ***
If you do not have a rooted device can't be used. If you are new to the world of Android™ modification and rooting, head over here for further info.
Introduction
Your buttons are wearing out or broken?
Advanced reboot options are not available in your ROM?
Bored from being forced to use ADB or terminal to enter advanced modes?
Forget everything! This application gives you access to all the advanced reboot options in one single place, you don't need to type commands in terminal neither do anything else and your buttons are safe.
Quick Reboot provides a powerful shortcut system and an all-in-one widget for your home screen too! Reboot has never been faster.
Starting from the 1.4 update, shortcuts are available! Head over your launcher's actions/shortcuts menu.
Main features
Restart
Enter safe mode
Fast reboot (user interface and apps)
Reboot to recovery (TWRP in FIsH too!)
Power off
Restart user interface (SystemUI)
Screen lock
Reboot to bootloader (fastboot mode for supported devices, download mode for Samsung)
Additional features
Configurable shortcuts to run specific reboot actions
Widget for LG Smart Bulletin (G3, G4, G5, G6, G7 (except G7 One), G8, V10, V20, V30, V35, V40, G Flex 2)
Configurable icons for the app and the all-in-one widget
Two themes to choose for the app interface and widget: light and dark
Show and hide reboot actions individually
Download
The app is free, supported by non-blocking silly ADs to provide the best user experience! . You can install it from the Google Play Store or from XDA Labs.
Info
Fastboot mode (reboot to bootloader): its behavior cannot be handled by this app who only provides a way to enter it.
The device may not allow the user to exit it without ADB, for example in case of non-removable battery or unavailable reset by long pressing the power/lock key.
In case you are stuck in fastboot mode, please follow the steps below:
Install ADB and fastboot from https://goo.gl/abtKRv
Make sure you have installed the proper USB drivers for your device and connect it to the computer
In a terminal window, type fastboot reboot and press enter
Alternately, let the battery discharge until auto power off.
Safe mode: Android will temporarily disable all the user apps including Quick Reboot. To exit it, reboot or power off your device with the built-in power menu accessible by long pressing the power/lock key.
Beta versions
Do you feel brave and want to test pre-release Quick Reboot versions with new changes and features in preview, all in an (spoiler! :silly unstable environment? I want you! Feel free to join the beta program here.

This application gives you access to all the advanced reboot options in one single place, you don't need to type commands in terminal or do anything else, all it requires is root. Do you have it? Great, a single tap is the way!
Available options:
- Normal reboot
- Enter safe mode
- Fast reboot (UI/apps)
- Reboot to recovery
- Reboot to bootloader*
- Power off
*fastboot mode for supported devices, download mode for Samsung
For normal reboot and power off you can choose between the instant action or PowerManager call, if the latter is enabled these two options will act like if you pressed the options in Android's power menu, usually opened by long pressing the power off button. Other options will use "instant action" way. A widget for your home screen is included.
Download
Play Store
A Pro version is also available:
No ADs (in free version a banner is showed only in main app, not in the widget)
Ability to show or hide the reboot ways individually (changes are applied in both main app and widget)
Light and dark UI for app and widget (choose it in Settings)
More coming soon
To celebrate its release 250 promo codes to download Quick Reboot Pro for free are available, updates included, request yours at http://goo.gl/forms/1jZpz0p8ca. All the codes will be sent to the winners once all 250 have been assigned.

Nice app. I've been using a similar one, but somehow that stopped working. Is there any chance you will make separate widgets for each function - reboot, power off, recovery etc.? That way I can set my Nova Launcher gestures to incorporate one of these, instead of the whole app. So I can, for example, reboot my device by just double tapping the screen. Thanks!
P.S. - I tried to use the Request feature but I consistently got an error message:
great app

Of course, shortcuts are available starting from the 1.4 update published one hour ago. The free version includes the one to reboot as demo, however I don't know if Tasker supports Android shortcuts out of the box as I never used it.
Time for an update! Version 1.4 changelog:
Shortcuts! You can now add a shortcut to run a specific action.
Android 7.1 Nougat support
Added Ukranian language
Improved compatibility and performance, code rewritten from scratch
Minor text updates
Widget: fixed confirm dialog's window color, minor user interface updates

Thank you so much for your newest version 1.43 with ... TWRP-in-FisH recovery reboot ability. You have done all of us with locked bootloaders who have finally been able finally to install a custom recovery on our LG G4's with TWRP-in-Fish a big turn by incorporating the ability to reboot into it from your app's menu. It works like a charm and is an awesome addition.
Great work - screenshots attached.

This works on LG LS751 <<-- Quickboot into FIsH

Hi, I have a rooted stock S4 I can't get into recovery for anything.
Download mode no problem but power+ for recovery never works, I get the blue text in top left but it just boots normally.
Thought this might save me but the same, blue text followed by normal boot.
Any ideas why my S4 is such a pain?
Some time ago, Quick Reboot Pro became free. Today I have published it on XDA Labs too, in place of the previous "Quick Reboot". This thread has been updated as well.

Love your app and appreciate all you've done.
One thing I would like to see incorporated, if possible, would be to have the same action settings reflected in the smart bulletin as are set in the app. I only have and use the Reboot, Fast Reboot, Recovery and Power off actions in the app itself, but the smart bulletin reflects all the available actions rather than the one's I have selected to show in the app itself and when rushing have sometimes clicked onein smart bulletin that I don't use or simply doesn't work, e.g., Fastboot with a locked bootloader on the LG G4 H812.
Thanks again,
S
