That would be cool, and seeing as the eris and the hero are very similar it's probably very possible.
any chance we could get the CyanogenMod team on board for something like this

Instead of having to delete everything on the phone and restore a previous image, it will run the ROM from your sdcard. This should in theory make it load faster. I'm looking at it now. I will let you know.

+1...thanks!
WOW.... I know I'd love this on my hero... thanks to anyone who wants to work on porting this =]
I will let you know something about this tomorrow. I would not try flashing the recovery for that because the kernel, hardware keys and some other things are different from our phone.

Wow, I'd love to do this. Imagine CM6 on your phone, but when you need to call sprint or want to use flash, you can go to sense! Since the eris is very similar to the hero, this should be possible.

Sorry guys. I have been really busy at work and haven't had a chance to look at the recovery image. We just need to replace with couple things in it to work with our phone.

in clockworkmod just scroll down to mounts and storage n click on it and then click on mount /system. i do it because thats what ive heard to do. some update.zips automatically do it themselves and some dont. if you mount it manually it wont mess anything up. if you dont mount the system and it doesnt do it automatically some stuff wont flash right. so i just mount it lol
Good call will do in the future thanks for your help :<)

Does anyone have these or know where i may get them? i want to flash through Odin but you have to use a PIT file, right? i know people have tried to use the original Vibrant PIT and have bricked so obviously i'm not going to do that. Many thanks.
Use whitehawkx's deodexed kd1 it works perfectly and is already rooted and is READY for CWM

That's what i was going to flash. So do i not need the PIT file? i'm new to this and especially Odin so i wanna get everything right

No you do not need a PIT file. Many have messed up their phones using the wrong pit file. There is another thread that says he created a PIT that works for the SGS4G, But you don't need a PIT, infact most instructions state do not check repartition on ODEN. Check here to see how to use ODEN. CWM is now working check the DEV page for information on using that.
Ok. I flashed without the PIT and NANDROIDed back. I lost too much to bother with it. Especially until there is and app that has a one-click restore feature for app backup
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
What do you mean you lost too much?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Like all my apps and stuff. I guess it's my laziness because I don't want to reinstall every individual .apk
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Oh i thought you were doing this because you were soft bricked or something but in your case then you dont need this you could easily just do alternatives to getting all the thing that kernel comes with

You can use titainum backup to Backup your Apps. Go to the Market on your phone and get Titanium Backup and install it. It has a batch program to backup your Apps.
I know. I backed up with that and App Monster but there isn't a one-click restore option

Meaning you can flash mods over it? Or is it truly easier to modify? This is way above my head at this pint sorry point.

Read This. This might help you understand better.
ROMs are typically released in deodexed form because they can be themed and modified fairly easily, whereas theming/modifying an odexed ROM is basically impossible (at best things would crash like crazy). Some people also choose to release their ROMs in odexed versions for people who would prefer the performance gains.
Helpful for sure. So it's easier to add mods. Jeez does that make it easier to modify the rom. sorry i have to ask this here because well you know. I don't want mister clown to chop my head off. So i will let you. Flame on!!
Ok guys as i'm trying to fix my USB problem I am curious as to if there is any other way to give my phone cwm.
I'm currently running ravers 2.3.6 kj6 official GB ROM with root. I understand I would have to Odin a different kernel but I can't cause of the USB issue. When I had the vibrant I remember using rom manager and going to factory recovery and doing update.zip. I am aware of rom manager not working with this phone but could I do something similar? Or since I have root could I go into a specific folder and change kernels?
My best guess is no since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere I just thought I'd ask. You never know right?

Get sgs kernel flasher from market and extract the zimage from the kernel zip. Once that is done use sgs kernel flasher to flash the zimage and you will have clockwork mod with voodoo.

Sweet i'm gonna try that, I actually just looked up a search for kernel the market and seen that. Didn't know if it would work for this variant of s series. Def Hope I don't brick my phone lol

I rooted my gf phone and flashed a new rom. Now I am trying to go back to stock but CWM won't mount her SD card and USB storage and WIFI won't work! Anyone out there know what is going on? I know about the file you have to delete on .android_secure but I can find it even on a computer!

Mmm, many questions...
Do you try full wipe/factory reset before installing new room?
Are you using a kustom kernel? If yes, try to reflash it. Customs kernels also includes CWM Recovery.
Sorry for my english!
Luck!
I did a full reset wipe and no I just installed the rom. Which at the moment I'm forgetting what its called
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Well. This is the first custom room you installed? If not, probably is a room bug, or the compatibility with your phone is not 100% funtionally.
If yes, perhaps the root is not correct. Why you dont try to re-root your phone?
Or try with another room and tested.
If still not working, dont worry, we will solve it!
Try BH's back to stock one click.
I'm curious what ROM you are using? Go to settings - about phone and it will tell you the name.
It was the ICBINB rom I believe.

I have rooted phones and installed roms but this is the first time I work on this phone. I rooted it a while back and barely flashed a rom on it. I pressed the recommended setting on it not custom.
Which would be the best way to re root it?

As Jigglynuts mentioned previously, go grab bhundven's one-click from the development section. The 3rd one listed in that post is KJ6 (GB), has CWM & it's rooted. All you need to run it is to have Java installed on your machine.

Thats rigth!
Then tell us if you can, I think yes!
Luck!
i got this phone yesterday and i'm not new to android or custom roms. but i derped pretty hard and stopped at step 7b of this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
and it would mount the sd card, but i noticed i didn't finish so i did the other steps and i've been able to flash roms, this program can also return you to stock i believe (some one else should confirm, or you can read about it in the wiki)
so if nothing else works you should try it.
Thanks to everyone!! Worked perfectly and now every think works!

Awesome, glad you got it working. Can you post what you did to fix it and also edit the title of the thread and put [SOLVED] in it?
