myTouch or Venue Pro? - myTouch 4G General

I'm on Tmo and there seem to be a flurry of high end devices; G2, myTouch, HD7, and Dell VP.
I'm in between the MT-HD and the Dell VP. I like the myTouch over the G2 because I don't like the bulk of a hardware KB and I like the FFC of the MT-HD. I favor the Dell over the HD7 for the AMOLED screen and the psuedo-exclusivity of it as it will only be sold online, like my N1.
So, which one is better?

Go for the MyTouch - WP7 lacks a lot of basic things, cut/paste among them. Also, no HSPA+ phones at WP7 launch, so you're better off with the faster device, faster network, and better all-around OS.

I just don't understand why WP7 doesn't support HSPA+ pretty disappointed. I'm intrigued by WP7 in the way I am with a very hot girl, but who is dumb. Drawn to it despite my better judgment and I can't help it.
I just like the Dell hardware and WP7 is new and I'm a little bored of Android. Hopefully Gingerbread quells that.

Personally...from looking at the specs, and knowing the unrootable issue with the G2...I would definitively go with the 4G. Not only are you getting a great device....but the mobile data speeds are suppose to be double and nearly triple on this device.

While I'll be buying the Dell Venue Pro, I can tell you'd probably enjoy the myTouch 4G more.
Or you could do like me and just buy both, lol. I love Android too much to completely abandon it. Don't think I'll go with the myTouch 4G, though. Don't like the styling.

Just so you know, the dell won't be sold in t mobile stores.

The styling is the only thing wrong w the phone. Has all the latest hardware and assuming it can be rooted and have ROMs loaded on it, I think I can get past it. Although the red color they slowed on Engadget earlier this month does look pretty nice.

You honestly can't go wrong with either. It just depends on if you want to try something new and fresh or something you're familiar with and know what all it has already.
As for the Venue being sold online only, can you link me to where you read that? The reason I ask is cause USPS lost my G2 while I was trying to have it returned and I really don't want to order another phone and risk having it lost/stolen again.

It's on any of the youtube previews and engadget, pocketnow, etc. I'd do you a greater service and link you to Dell where you could pre order one, but they have done little in promoting this thing so far and not even up for pre order yet. The only mention of the thing is on Dell's blog and there's no release date or pricing.

thats how i feel about the mytouch hd/4g drawn in to the shiney, but unlike you i prefer a physical keyboard, but wtih the mytouch's slightly faster processor and front facing camera i have to wonder which is better for me in the long run.

Eh I dont see this coming out till 3rd quarter if we're lucky. I'm either going to take the plunge for the Desire-Z (if I can get a NAM). And buy the Glacier when it comes out.

[Q / Poll ] MyTouch4G or HD7? Advice / Experiences etc please..

I am currently getting service from Tmobile USA and I have been waiting for a real high end phone to come out so I can upgrade to it -now that the MyTouch4G and the HD7 are coming out -I am thinking about getting one or the other
...so far one thing that disappoints me about both of them is that they seem to have just a regular LCD screen (not an AMOLED, SLCD, or SAMOLED etc...)...I like the look and eye candy of WP7 and the games it seems to aim for...but then the specs of the MyTouch4G are good because it has a next gen processor and almost 1gb of ram...also it is capable of using Tmobiles new network speeds...(not sure if the hd7 can do that or not)...
Which would you advise me to get? or which would you prefer?
You are the one who will be using it...get what works best for you
Sent from my FroYoed Sprint Hero
thanks, I understand that -but I am really just looking for input from others, maybe they can shed light on another angle or something even...
My understanding is that
the only two phones coming out for HSPA+ are the g2 and the mytouch. HD7 will not support the new speeds. So it depends on what you are looking to accomplish. Me personally? I wouldn't go hd7 just for that reason alone.

yeah, but I think it will be able to do HSPA thought which would still be faster than just UMTS 3G (Correct me if I am wrong at all)...plus -WP7 looks pretty nice IMO ...
Please -anyone with any opinions or advice(s) ...leave a post here and a vote... thanks =)...
I would think some more people would have something to say since the MT4G has been released already...
I would say...I would choose the HD7, but put the next gen Snapdragon CPU, and the RAM (about 768mbs?) from the Mytouch4G into the HD7. I would also like to take the internet capabilities from the Mytouch4G(HSPA+ I believe?) and put that as well into the HD7...Then I would also like to make the HD7s screen something like an SLCD, AMOLED, or S-AMOLED display...
How does that sound? That is what I like about each...
wait and see what the nexus two has to offer imo

Mytouch 4g or nexus s

Hi, I currently have a rooted mytouch 4g running android 2.3 that I bought used off of craigslist. I got an offer to trade my mytouch 4g plus cash for a nexus s brand new. Now I don't necessarily love Samsung but the deal seems like it could be beneficial to me. Some background:
I have a mytouch with a 'bad screen'
I have absolutely none of the original packaging or accessories.
The phone is a bit scuffed up and it is purple.
Now I was hoping you guys could give me your opinion, if you were in my shoes, would you trade or keep the phone?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I wouldn't....
too many bad things about the nexus s, and far too many fones that will be released in the next few months that will outdate "kill" the nexus S while the mt4g even with a bad screen STANDS STRONG, i also have a bad screen and this is far better processor, plus you can contact htc through tmoble to possibly exchange now for the scuffs u can spend 11bucks at ur local mall and get watever color gel case u want and.u now have ur fave color mt4g in ur hands
just my opinion do sum reading thru here there are lots of negatives to the nexus s, our (mt4g) gingerbread runs wayyy better
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I honestly do not see why not... If I was in your shoes I would do it, if you don't you will probably be asking yourself what if? Plus you should factor in the following which is are you able to fully utilize hspa+ where you are.... Ultimately it also comes down to whether you have patience for Nexus S development to pick up and moreover if the mytouch better suits what you need... The Nexus S in my honest opinion is currently a better offering hardware wise and potentially (support google/dev scene) software wise with the largest omission being hspa+...
Apparently very debatable

I got the NS for 1 week and I went back to the MT4G. Maybe you like the NS, so try it and if not you can trade it again. I had a thread about my experience with the NS and compared it a bit to the MT4G.
HTML:

I'm returning my Nexus S tomorrow. Picked up the my touch yesterday. So far I think this version of Sense is terrible. That, however can be fixed. Really there are a number off things I don't like about the my touch yet I will still return the Nexus. GPS, accelerometer, and compass all function much better on the my touch. Huge difference. If I'm going to spend 500 bucks on a phone I expect the features that make it more than just a phone to work well. Updates from Google are important but I would rather have well functioning hardware. If the my touch never receives another ota it's still a pretty good phone. The Nexus will probably never have a stable compass or gps. That's my take at least. There were some other hardware issues such as phantom button presses that put me over the edge with the Nexus, but that may have been cured with an exchange.

I went from the G1, which I loved, to the Vibrant, which I loved to hate. The developers did the best they could but the phone was still sitting with no official froyo six months after release, so I got fed up and sold it.
I got a Nexus S after the hype, went through two replacements before I got one that functioned properly. In the end, I still couldn't come to terms with the fact I was essentially buying another Samsung phone. I did some comparison shopping. Turned my S back for a refund and got a MT4G.
I did have to exchange the MT4G one time to get one with a good display, so I wasn't too happy at first, but now I'm much happier than I was with the Nexus S. It's got a more solid build, the camera is better, the buttons are responsive (big problem with the Nexus), the GPS locks quickly, I trust an HTC device 100x more than a Samsung device, and considering that we are getting Cyan 7 nightlies that are already fairly stable, I know I've made the right choice.

Thats what I would do... Make a post, selling a Nexus S you haven't traded for yet, and see how many hits you get... if you get some legit hits.. I would trade the MT4G for the NS and sell the NS, then buy a MT4G or wait for some of these next-gen phones to come out. I LOVE the MT4G....it is amazing...think the NS fails in comparision...and anyone that would pick a NS over the MT4G is prolly just doing so because they are google fanboys, or they don't want to admit to themselves they paid 500 dollars for a phone that is basically the iphone with bugs....I honestly don't think anyone looking at the matchup objectively would pick the NS over the MT4G. Good Luck with your decision making, hope it works out.
You really want to get some unbiased answers post this same question in the Nexus S forms... Btw, I agree with the poster above if your heart is set on a mytouch 4g turn around and sell the Nexus S you acquire and obtain a mytouch 4g with the better built screen and possibly a better exterior color, like black

LOL now now lets not be that harsh, NS can still beat down the iPanzy 4 with its eye closed. But NS does not compare against MT4G as we know TMo Project: Emerald was successful IMO they created a monster muahaha and even its brother DHD can't beat MT4G in speed yet they share similar spec. NS could have been good but its crippled by Samsung due to their inferior management and other marketing factors.
If I am not mistaken doesn't the hummingbird processor take advantage of gingerbread in ways any generation of the snapdragon processor cannot? Or was this a myth?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Originally I wanted the nexus s but my parents got me the mytouch.
To me 2.3 was a huge bonus for the nexus s but now the mytouch has 2.3 so its all good. The next advantage was the better screen for the nexus but now that super amoled two displays are coming out the nexus screen will be obsolete soon enough.although if I was you I would just wait for the phones announced at ces to come out.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yeah, you're pretty much going to get biased opinons, but I think the myTouch has a better chance of anything at this point. We got the CM7 nightys coming along nicely, and we even have a cleaned up version of the stock rom which runs like fire (Iced Glacier) and overall it supports TMobile's 4G network.
MyTouch all the way. You really don't need the NFC for another couple of years cause they're just starting to put some use to it.
MyTouch all the way, and plus read some of the stuff about the Nexus, it's having lagging issues, random reboots and such. And plus it's a Samsung device, that doesn't mean it won't get the next version of Android quick, but the fact that it's just a samsung device and that it feels like ****. The Mytouch (at least mine) feels solid.
ATM its just a myth as Hummingbird S5PC110 does not stand a chance with Snapdragon MSM8255 was only factor with 1st gen Snapdragon. But however at the same time credit must be given to SGX 540 as its slightly better than Adreno 205. Then again this is where Samsung can only excel huh in graphic and SAMOLED display. Also don't let the whole NS using ext4 BS get to you as we are still not in dualcore world fully but ext4 does have its benefits. Overall MT4G beats NS with its face down in the gutter where Samsung belongs. This device is not any type of flagship but it does have potentials as lineup device, only thing I see holding it back is Samsung lol and then again they tend to do that.
I've had both but ultimately chose the MyTouch because having 4g speeds made a huge difference in the entire experience. On the NS I was always having to run wifi. Also the NS just never felt complete. Running CM7 makes the MT4g a complete phone.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
Dont, Nexus S isnt really a that good of phone plus u have gingerbread etc and Nexus S is samsung made. Cheap quality. MT4g kicks its ass in CPU and Some GPU stuff ( shader performance and more) so i say keep it
If you have 2.3 on your mt4g there is no point. That's the only thing the nexus s has over mt4g out of the box. Plus the mt4g has 4g and HTC is better than Samsung by a long shot...

I must say, I still love this phone!

I've had this phone since it came out in November and usually me being the tech whore that I am would get bored really quick and lust for the next big thing. As of now, I'm still loving this phone. I've rooted, on CM7, configured my screens the way I like it and sometimes I notice me touching and holding the phone just for the sake of it. Could this finally be love?? I feel like I just found a great girl and stopped going out trying to get with club chicks. lol!
Even when I go to the tech sites and checking out the new phones coming out in Barcelona, I'm like meh, I got a good "girl" at home, I'm not lusting after them. Damn, I must be getting old! hahahaha!
Yeah I said the same thing. Why did sense have so many features from espresso with the sliding bars and such only phone I even consider was the desire s cause it reminded me of the nexus one.

i share the same love as u guys. it's simple, the device meets our needs for an internet phone, and more, once rooted. how can u not fall in love with it? if u get a fully functional one, i mean.
I love this phone too! No other phone can compare yet. I'm like you, I always go for the newest toy but I've been holding on. However, the Optimus 2x might win me over.
Normally I am looking for a new phone by now (always like the latest tech) but not so much with this phone. It might take the next mytouch to get me away from my current one. I've said this many times, this phone just works.
Same here, I've changed phones a lot recently, jumping on the newest one out. At this point though, I'm acknowledging more that this phone can do pretty much everything the newest ones out can do.
About dual cores, I say "Eh.." Higher megapixel camera? Eh.. NFC? That won't be useful until maybe late this year.
Until something groundbreaking comes out that this phone can't do or do well, I'm sticking with it.
Yeah, this phone is rockin'. Even a lot of the newer phones being announced are still below spec compared to this phone - even more so when rooted, devoid of bloat, and OCed. It'll probably take a year before this thing is made "obsolete." This and the HTC Thunderbolt are the most exciting phones right now IMO.
agreed. im so happy i got to own a good one in the end. it freakin flyes.

most ppl saying no to the hd7 are biased towards android
and if it's too big, that's why they have different variations of phones

Hmmmmmm, has anyone upgraded from a HD2?
I had a HD7 and it's just sad. No ability to customze anything.
So, I kept my HD2. I install ROMs as often as I change clothes. But, it is getting old.
I really want a Robot native device that performs well and has 4G capability.
The wife has a Vibrant and holly crap. That thing is the bigest pile of crap. I feel bad that I got it for her. It's slow, the XDA Support sucks since no one really seems to like it.

Well, if they are planning on being AT&T in a year or so, with 1.2ghz dual core (htc sensation specs and evo 3d specs) being "rare" in like 3 months....
That gives like 9 months to announce a new phone. My guess is it will come 3 months after the Sensation 4G to allow that to be king. Then, an identical Sensation 4G with a different form factor, espresso, a keyboard, and the smaller screen will be announced as the MyTouch 4G Slide.
My guess is it will come around... October or November, which will be about a year after the MT4G was released, so that could mark its "end of marketing life".
I'm still hoping/doubtful this merger will go thru..

I loved my G1 and still miss it sometimes, but swype and thinness come over a physical keyboard. Once all those features get together we'll have a new "Superphone."

Yeah, for some reason keyboards can't be made thin enough currently. You'd think that would come down a bit more than it has over the years.
Also, I like how people say thinness is better because it fits in their pockets better, then later they complain about dropping their phone in the toilet and having to get a new one.
I'm not sure why people want to carry their phone in their pants pockets either. I've cut down on the **** in my pockets over the years (from 2 sets of keys to 1 and also to the world's thinnest wallet) and it feels absolutely wonderful having less in there. I'd rather wear mine on my belt or in a coat pocket.
Don't you guys think we should wait to see if AT&T will in fact be buying T-Mobile before buying new phones? I don't plan on getting a new phone until this blows over. If T-Mobile remains T-Mobile here in the US, I'll get a new phone.

They are pretty much releasing each phone with penta-band capabilities, meaning that they will work on AT&T's network anyway.
Plus, AT&T thinks that they will close the deal in a year. The FCC and US Congress think otherwise (and I support them).
And even if it's a year, by the time the networks are phased out, it will be time for a new phone.

I'm not concerned about the network thing. If the deal goes through, I'm switching carriers... Must be crazy to thing I'll do business with AT&T.

Want to upgrade but willing to wait

So they convinced me to get out of flexpay and reset my upgrade a year earlier than it was supposed to be. Looking at the sgs2 but not liking its Samsung. What do you guys think or what have you heard? Are there any HTC phones that are a drastic improvement from the mt4g coming out?

Not that I've heard. I'm waiting until until T-Mobile gets something with a S4 (4th gen Snapdragon) and over 1 GB of RAM. I got the MT4G right after launch and it was worth it then because it was the first phone in the U.S. with a S2 and 768MB of RAM. I'd milk the MT4G a few more months...it's still a fast phone with more than adequate performance.

I say wait as long as you can.. the sgs2 is a nice phone but I read the sgs3 is coming out, the specs are great. As for HTC the edge seem to be a new phone with great promise as well. As for the Mt4g it's still a great phone for atleast the next 2yrs.

If I was replacing my MT4G, I'd probably aim for an Amaze 4G or try to stick it out until the next generation of phones hit.

I agree to stick with your MT4G and wait a while...the HTC Edge does look like an awesome device
HTC Sensation, Sensation XL, or Amaze 4G in my opinion.
Just wait. At the rate phones come out, roms come out as well. Xda has your back! Unless it breaks, hold off on the upgrade.

Depending on what carrier(s) it's available for, the Asus Padfone is looking pretty sweet
I would wait a bit, especially with the tegra 3 chip in the horizon
Every time I want a new phone, I flash a new ROM. Best way to get your current phone to act like a new phone. Left MIUI for Febs ICS beta recently. It's so amazing It will save you a lot of money comparatively too.
I have an HTC HD2 (T-Mobile version unlocked, on AT&T) and I am looking at getting a T-Mobile plan. My HD2 had Android 2.3.7 (AmeriCan Android). It runs the SD card, so I can still use WM6.5.
So, when I go to T-Mobile, the free phones they have (at Costco) lists the MT4G, which looks like the best free one.
But, when I compare what Costco / T-Mobile and PhoneScoop.com say are the specs, they don't match.
I'm wondering if going from the HD2 with Android to the MT4G is worth it. I know I can keep the HD2 and if I don't like the TM4G as much I can switch back (or even back and forth), but I was wondering what MT4G users think of their phones.
Also, does anyone change to a newer version of Android before the warranty runs out?
I love my mt4g. no the specs should all be the same. I get over a day running cm7 overclocked to 1.5ghz with normal use. Was going to use the phone as a present to control a Logitech harmony base but. Have decided to wait till HTC makes there next big one not really liking sgs2 after using one.

Oh dear god PLEASE DON'T BUY THE "LG MYTOUCH 4G"....it's not the real mt4g and you wont get any rom support
Oh yeah I forgot about that phone yeah stay away from LG at all costs!

Honestly wait... I had the mt4g from launch up to about 2 weeks ago... tmo offered me a sensation as a warranty replacement.. don't get me wrong, it's a nice device, but the mt4g dev section makes me miss my old phone. Unless it's free (aka me getting the sensation didn't effect my bill, upgrade date or contract..) , I'd stick with the mt4g.

I will watch out for the LG version to avoid it, but I was looking at T-Mobile from Costco. They have the T-Mobile® myTouch™ 4G Black, and in the pictured you can see "HTC" on the back.
The reason I was looking at this was it is $0.01 from Costco, and it seems to be pretty good compared to my HTC HD2, and I'm running Android, like the mt4g, so I thought that would be a good step.
Thanks!

The development of this ROM is amazing. I got lucky and didn't realize that before I bought the phone, but the MT4G is a fantastic phone for $0.01 on contract.
Either way though, I may suggest a dualcore if it ever goes on a sale. Quite sure there was a time when the SGS2 was like $0.01 during Christmas for T-mobile. Try and look for deals like that.

The SGS2 deal was something like $200 down, with $200 mail in rebate, and $20 per month for 20 months! Not quite the deal I was looking for.
Not sure if I should wait for a better deal toward the end of the month, or take the plunge now!
Anyone know if any T-Mobile deals are coming soon?
You are only going to get a great deal on T-mobile if you aren't a current customer (just my opinion). Otherwise, wait until you are eligible for phone upgrades.
