i know this had to have been discussed in the past and even done already, i just cant find it.
I do not like, one little bit the AOSP email and browser.
the email is just a gmail app ripoff along with every single email app on the market.
the Sense email app is the only one of its kind that i have found. Same for the Sense browser.
the aosp email is just garbage in my eyes (no offense cyanogen team)
you cant resize emails whether its portrait or landscape
you always have to click download pictures
scrolling left and right, for what ever ungodly reason is a pita, the app just doesnt want to do it.
the worst part,, oh god... it always tells you you have new emails just because you didnt read or delete all unread messages... friggin frackin ****in retarded. (again sorry cyanogen team,, but this email app is horrible)
the only thing i like about the gmail, i mean aosp email app is its easy to select and delete emails....
so, with all that being said, and again, no offense to the Cyanogen Team, is there a flashable zip or similar with the Sense Email and Browser that i can flash over SuperEVO to make it the complete rom i wish it to be...
thanks!

+1 pleeeeeeeeeeeese!
Sense applications rely upon sense framework and will not work on AOSP roms. There are a lot of other options for email/browsers in the market.
I am a fan of xscope browser.
I cannot comment on email as I use gmail exclusively.
I have heard very good things about k-9 mail though.
I hope you find what you are looking for.

the browser is minor, i can live with dolphin hd, even though it too has resizing issues.
I have used xscope... its ok..
so browser is minor, email is friggin #1 buku email, me love it long time!
if the sense email cant run on aosp then... frack..... i am screwed with anything but sense roms... damn it.

i am game for anything,, maybe give it a try.
i actually want to use it not so much for superevo rom but for MIUI.
MIUI is not 100% aosp the way i understand it, its got a bit of both, but more aosp than anything.
i just dont know how to do flashable zips or even where to start on how to make it installable via flash, and i understand that there is a com.android.xxxxx.xxx hiding somewhere else for the browser/email right so if its missed,, it wont work .

MIUI is nuts and what I am running currently.
It is built from AOSP source code.
They HEAVILY modified the framework of it to make it look the way it does. At this time there is no way to run any sense type app on MIUI.
I wish I could give you better news brah

Hello XDA,
I am one of the developers of the Asurion Mobile AddressBook and I would like to get some feedback on our product from the users here. I have been using this forum for some thine now for Winmo and respect the opinions of the developers here. It would be great to see what everyone thinks of the application. It is available in the Android Marketplace, just search Asurion. Or you can go to our site at http://www.getaddressbook.com/.
A little about AddressBook, it is a socially connected address book that allows you to get information about your contacts from different social sites like Facebook and Twitter right in the address book, through mini programs called Mixins.
Soon we will have an APK for developers to develop their own Mixins for AddressBook. When its ready I will post more information if anyone would like to beta for us.
AddressBook is still in a beta form and is available for 1.6 and 2.0 and above. Please try it out and let me know what you think. AddressBook is new and we are open to positive and negative feedback.
Thanks,
Peter
Just installed
Main app + all MixIn
It's a nice app, just a bit slow on my HTC Sapphire Magic Vodafone 32B with 2.1 Eclair Rom
I don't like "MixIn solution", why not a full app with all modules inside ?
I've launched main app, then I gone to market and installed Facebook MixIn for first.
After a lot of privacy authorization with some screen not well fitted I did a little war with Matching People, cause a lot of them were not matched nice.
I need Photos compare, cause I've some cases with two or more people with the exact name... like my cousins =)
I had some Facebook MixIn Force close Crashes and some com.google.process.gapps crashes too, right now...
I installed flickr and associate it with some of my contacts and no problems at all.
at last I tried Twitter and no probs with it...
I think it's a good app, but a bit slow...
last thing:
Support for all languages (I could translate it in Italian if you need)
I don't like number in this format 000-000-0000
or 00-000-0000
I know it's a developing app and I will wait for next releases of this.
Well Done
Good Job
This is some great feedback, thanks for taking the time to try it out and post back.
Just wondering
Is this ultimately going to be a paid application?
You know like:
5.99/mo
4.79/mo
1.99/mo
What's our deductible? :0
Haven't tried the app, but if you could spread the QR codes apart it will ease their reading.
Thanks for your app!
played with it 30mins.
1. got the main app
2. started a new a/c in www.getaddressbook.com
3. got the MixIn: Facebook
4. start the MixIn app, input Facebook a/c
5. click Allow buttons 3 times
6. MixIn starts to get contacts from FB
7. Auto Match
8. Manual adjust Auto Match results
9. Launch main app
The above steps took about 25mins (330 FB contacts; 300 gmail contacts; Auto Matched 180; manual picked out... haven't counted >_< i believe picked out 30 - 50).
Cool:
-Auto Match tried to best match FB | Local contacts even they are not perfect match.
e.g. Shirley Lam | Salei Lam (it matches)
-Facebook photos can replace local as well as sync. to Gmail Contacts
-Consolidated activities log (SMS, voice call, etc) for individual contact
Not:
-[MixIn: FB] Say you have some contacts named Peter Chan, you will get confused without some other hints like Organization.
I picked those contacts out in Auto Match to prevent mis-matching as Org is not displayed in Auto Match results
-[main app] Contact list won't remember the last viewed location.
I scrolled from top to Carol, click twice to view details, click Return and the contact list scrolls back to top.
-[main app] Slow. Maybe it's my outdated HTC Magic... (it's CyanogenMod 4.2.13 w/ EBI1 mod]
For me:
Keep and waiting for updates!
looks cool..will try this later when i get home for work..
speed is defiantely something that can be worked on.

No, the application will be free. And no deductible that I know of
It looks interesting but what you should definitely not miss is the T9 dialer. The way you can find contact by typing their name directly from the dialer is the only feature that makes me stay on 1.5. I tried other apps from the Market but nothing could match HTC's Sense UI dialer. If you can bring something clean similar to this I'm sold!
Another question for the community. Are there any features you are not seeing in the AddressBook that you would like to see, things that would make this app a must have?
Great work on the app. After using the app for a few days the main reason I stopped us using it was the user interface. Its not horrible but compared to everything else on the phone, it looks a bit outdated (quality wise). Other then the ui, it can be sluggish at times but nice work.

Darvo is absolutely correct. The T9 dialer is something that is sorely missing from most builds. I think it would especially appeal to stock users as well as those running cooked roms. I have been searching for a reliable answer to this outside of a Sense UI but haven't found anything that I'll stand by 100%.
Thank you .........
I appreciate your effort with AddressBook; however:
I find it extremely inappropriate and invasive that the app immediately syncs my contacts upon install to -- where? your servers?
There should be a clear warning that this is about to happen!
Please delete my data from your servers!
Also, the 'delete all' function on your site does not work, at least not with Safari. I 'moved' all to the 'delete' column on right, but clicking on 'delete selected' does nothing.
And with Chrome I couldn't even log in. Got some error about 'src' and try the support page.
I am sorry that app is frustrating you. There is a screen during setup that lets you know about the backup. This function can be turned off in the app. If you give me your user name I will delete your account from the database. The back up is meant to protect your contacts in the case that you loose your phone or get a new one. As for browser support, right now we are only supporting IE and Firefox. Again sorry the app is frustrating for you.
Great app!
I really like and appreciate this app. The 2 biggest features that drew me to waste countless hours playing w/ hero roms on my mytouch were hero's T9 dialer, and the social integration. I'll 3rd the motion for a T9 dialer in your app. No complaints otherwise. Bravo - and thanks for the great app.
P.S. Backup to server is a bit redundant in my opinion, because your contacts already sync w/ your Google acct - but, to each is own. I might be missing an advantage to it anyway. I just opted not to use it.
And props for soliciting feedback here in the forum - where the REAL users are.

Really? Because I can see in the options where to change the time and frequency of the sync, but I don't see how to disable syncing altogether. Maybe I'm just missing something?
Good catch, looks like there is a bug, you should be able to set it to not backup. We will work to get that fix in.
I have been playing around with the Hero, but I am not sure I have found the T9 dialer, what does it do?
Feedback
I've been following this app since it first arrived, and I must say bravo for doing what only HTC dared to attempt. It works well, too, except for a few things.
1. It may SEEM that scrolling smoothness isn't that important. Ask Apple, they'll tell you the truth: Its the only thing the masses give a Sh&% about, how something looks. So imitate the apple or hero contact style, because the one here is rough but needs only an easy fix! Smooth scrolling and better "sleek" colors. Same for the dialer.
2. It seems to run too often in the background, which slows my phone seemingly, no matter how often i taskiller it.
Eagerly awaiting the next release...
i just want to start off by saying that "Bloo" is one of the best app for facebook out there. the developer had decide to either let bloo die or make it open source.
please respect hes work and show support if you want "bloo" to survive.
visit hes website "fbandroid.wordpress.com" or on the market. and let him know how you feel.
By the way he has release a "Preview" of the new Bloo 1.5 With Facebook Chat. (REMEMBER IS NOT THE OFFICIAL RELEASE) everything seems to be working fine for me. but there should be some bugs.
****The only way to download this app is either by downloading "ASTRO" on the market. and download it straight from your SD Card****
**BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE NEW VERSION, PLEASE UN-INSTALL WHATEVER BLOO VERSION FROM YOUR PHONE FIRST**
This app looks freaking awesome so far. Haven't had a chance to try out facebook chat yet, but will soon...
Does Bloo allow me to accept friend requests? I always hated the fact that I couldnt do this on the stock FB app.
no it doesnt allowed to received friend request. due to "FACEBOOK" policies to third party apps. the only way to activate for you to received friend request on your mobile phone is by the "official android facebook app".
Bloo is one of the best facebook app hands down.
SHOW SUPPORT TO THE DEVELOPER
"fbandroid.wordpress.com"
TO KEEP BLOO ALIVE OR ELSE THE DEV WILL NO LONGER WORK ON THIS APP.
Let it die! Along with Facebook!
I would like the chat even better if I could receive my replys

i fully agree but i need the chat to work lol i still cant get my responses from chat
The chat seems to be working fine for me. Except sometimes if I leave the chat, get a response in the notification bar, and click it, the response isn't there. I have to back out of the chat to the "friends online" list and go back into the chat of that one person.
Kinda annoying, but otherwise the best facebook app Ive used yet.
This is not good!
Wow, who says this is better than Facebook for Android app??? This app is terrible, everything I try to do needs approval first. Then after I got it all setup its slow, you scroll down past the feeds and wait while it downloads more, scroll down, and wait.....very annoying. I gave it a try but I would rather use the Facebook for Android app, its much improved.
I like the effort though but I say let it Die!

From a developers stand point - these issues you have are Facebook API related. If Facebook would open up their API or have an "App Approval" process then it would be a lot better.
I have to say even the Facebook app blows big monkey test....well you get the point.
I guess FB didn't get the Memo that Android has now out sold iPhone and all last year was expected to do so. Maybe they should have balanced the development budget a little more in favor of Android....who ever made that business decision is probably fired now, maybe them and the guy from apple who lost the 4g can go into an Epic Fail business together.
Along these lines I just read on engadget that Erick Tseng - THE Android guy at Google - just quit over at the big G to go to work for FaceBOOK.
I see an amazing Android app in our future. I'm stooked on pure speculations here!

Um, you can set how many posts to load in the feed. It just auto loads when you get to the bottom no matter what. Facebook app doesn't even do that. All those permissions are one time things. Oh, and you want to look at a notification you received with the official facebook app? Looks like your redirecting to the browser! Might as well just use the touch site.. Bloo does EVERYTHING IN APP! Including notifications for wall posts, and other responses which the facebook app does not do. This app is not as pretty as the facebook app I will say, but def trumps it in usability
Bloo seems to be only good for telling me when there is notifications, other than that it's the stock app or mobile page for the best results. (or just viewing the full page in the browser)
...how come they all have fewer e-mail options (no scheduling, no self BCC) and are missing some good browser options (like turning off mobile view so you can see full sites), among other things?
Because AOSP is the core that everyone builds off of to make the fancy email clients... I hear K9 is pretty good.
Type "about:debug" in the address field then hit "enter", after that press the menu button and choose more --> settings. At the bottom of that long list, click on UAString. The default setting inside here is Android, if you choose Desktop the websites will show as on a desktop.

The good thing about Android is you don't necessarily have to accept stock features. If there's something lacking in a stock app, chances are the Market has an alternative. There are 3rd party web browsers with many additional features (Dolphin HD, Firefox, Opera, SkyFire, etc.) as well as aftermarket email clients as Tx Redneck said. Enhanced Email is my preferred mail client (it works with Exchange 2010) otherwise I would have gone with K-9 Mail. I find the stock AOSP calendar to be lacking, so I use Business Calendar. The stock calculator sucks too, so I use one from the Market. I could go on and on with all the apps I use that are better than the stock ones. SMS Go, Power Amp, etc, etc. lol
+1 for K-9. It's been my go-to email client for quite some time now.
The thing that I believe we all come to love about android, is that you can pretty much replace any app with a better alternative that suits your needs. Long live Android.
Thank you. Makes senses. I did try k9, by the way, for POP mail. It is a nice app. I just wish I could us the same app for Exchange and POP.
Also, I forgot to mention...with CM7 and Phoenix and the others, I can't get DL speeds better than 4,000. This is even after flashing the latest AT&T radio.
With the stock ROM and with RCMix and LeeDroid (Sense GB ROMs), I can get mid-7000s.
Anyone know who to get better speeds with CM7?
I dont know about other aosp roms but cm7 has the ua string in the stock browser settings menu.

I've been an Android user for a few months now and I love it so far. The only complaint I have is that there is no good Facebook app (in my opinion), or can someone recommend one? What I don't like about the official app is that it doesn't look that good (not ugly, but not pretty either), there's no instant push notifications and it seems a bit slow to load (I find it faster to just use the website in Dolphin HD browser) So then my question is... Can't someone develop a good app, one with the above features missing from the official app? I know nothing about Android app development so please tell me why or why not... If there's someone out there with the skills to create an app like that, but maybe you don't have time to develop a user interface or something... I'm more than willing to create a user interface that you can use... Anyway, just a thought
Ummmmmmmmmmmmm.....Dude I use just facebook for android.....It's just a nice basic requirement but it eats a lot of my net(that my only compaint) Otherwise it's gud.....If ur willing to try out sum more....There is tweetdeck, Social jogger 2,and many more which u can find over here
Hope I helped u ,If so hit thanks
I get what you're saying, but don't you think it could be better. I don't have a big issue with the interface, but the app is lacking some features (like instant push) And Facebook isn't exactly quick with updates. If there's an app developed by a community like XDA, it should be much faster, shouldn't it? I looked at Friendcaster, Seesmic and Tweetdeck and none of those have exactly what I'm looking for. Some lack chat, push notifications etc. Anyway, like I said, was just a thought... would be nice to have a good, all-in-one solution for Facebook
You could have a look at FriendCaster. It used to be called Flow before Handcent bought it and changed it's name to match TweetCaster, their twitter app.
I like the the facebook, but I agree it would be nice if there were something better.
the facebook app has been my complaint since I started using Android...
I use friendcaster pro and it gets the job done for me.

Friendcaster Pro here too which consumes less data as compared to official facebook apps.
FriendCaster seems like a good alternative to the official app, but it's still missing features like Instant push notifications and chat. And personally I prefer the official app's interface over friendcasters', though functionality comes first for me. I know you can configure friendcaster to use GMail for facebook notifications, but unfortunately gmail is giving me problems. The periodic polling option isn't very attractive either, draining the battery and such. I probably should add that I used the free version (ADS )
Okay, guys... GoSMS is starting to become a BOTHER. It was great, but since its "cloud" features, and constant bombardment of "buy this, do that" I am fed up with it. I just did a backup before I wiped and flashed, and it is NOT reading that my backups are there (local, not in the cloud... apparently Cloud is not working?).
So, I am off to find a newer, better app.
I would like Backup features (especially if it can restore from Go's backups), themeing support, and general customization, and possibly facebook contact picture support (i know with the recent updates, facebook has made this nearly impossible).
What are you guys using? Does stock "do" it for you? I am running CM9 on a Nexus S 4G (Crespo4G).
Thanks, everyone!

Actually, yes. Waaaay back when I got my first Android (Epic 4G). Might have to give it a go again.
hmm, i haven't received any spam or cross sell proposals through go sms, maybe it's because i use adfree?
Also not sure what you mean by the cloud being a bother. I don't see that option.
The customization of go sms is awesome, i don't know if any other sms app that even comes close.
~Samsung Galaxy SIII (SPH-L710) - Blazer ROM v1.6 - TWRP~
I haven't used GO or Handcent in awhile, but I really did like Handcent. It was pretty nice and not much lag.
-K
For SMS I'm more than happy with the AOSP SMS app. Runs just fine but to be honest I'd rather that everyone I text was a whatsapp user instead as the delivery status is really useful. A less iPhoney theme would be nice for whatsapp too.
Just an FYI, there are messaging-app-independent...apps (lol) for backing up and restoring text messages on the market. Like SMS Backup Pro and a ton of others.
I tried numerous Messaging apps, but in the end, I went on using only "SMS Enhancer" app, which is essentially just a nicely stylized popup widget. Any other application just slowed down my already slow Wildfire.
Now, I'm on Windows Phone, and I don't have to worry about such things. Though, would like at least SOME customization of default messaging app...
Default ICS
Personally, I like the default messaging app in Ice Cream Sand which. (Or at least the one in CM9)
I mean, It has Emoticons native support (for those people who use it or people who's friend's beg them to use it) and a whole other bunch of useful settings.
I don't know why you haven't tried handcent yet. Its the best in my opinion.

Handcent, hands down!
I have the nexus s 4g on sprint (still love it =D).
My favorite features:
Handcent Backup
Popup Window
Split Message Options (split by word & add counter, awesome for cdma carriers like sprint)
Customization
Plugins (Emoji especially)
Thanks for the responses, guys! Once the thread got moved, it seemed to really do good.
I have used Handcent in the past. And I found GoSMS and was completely happy with it, until all their "sign up, and login" crap. I liked being able to backup locally before updating.
The rom I am running now (a JB variant) has SMS issues, and I am a HEAVY texter, so I was looking for other options. Right now, I am still using stock, so I will look into the standalone backup option. Thanks again!
