Maybe the My Movies app will do what you want.

Check out GCstar for the desktop and GCstar Viewer for android (in the market)
Gcstar is a cross platform collections management tool. It imports and exports loads of formats. Works for games and books and whatever it us you collect. Currently the android app is just a viewer. I hope it gets some love as an input device soon...
I use Movie Collector from Collectorz.com
I had the iPhone version of it for a few years and recently switched to the Android version. It has a desktop app that you can scan barcodes into and then the phone app that you can sync your collection to.
You can't scan the barcodes with the phone yet, but they say that they plan to add that feature.

although lacking the scan feature, otherwise this will work great, the fact I can enter the name and it will search all the other details makes it almost as easy as a barcode scanner anyways.
I could use some help figuring out how the csv import feature works... other then that, I thank you much for the input guys

Did you sort out your CSV issues...
I notice that the default separator is a semicolon when I open the importer. If you have a bunch of data in a comma separated file then you should change the semicolon to a comma. Also, you have to make the appropriate adjustments to the "fields to be imported" to let it know what is what.

For me I found the best document editor is "Polaris Office". Unfortunately until today I could not find the document apk to install it.
Anyu developers here could help?
I need the apk file to install it.
Thanks.
found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045522&highlight=polaris+office
But when I installed it on my Nexus1 it only lets me log in to a Box.net account to see docs I guess.
No GDocs settings, no way to create new documents.
The Google Docs app has been released, which may be a decent, powerful tool one day, but in this first version needs some polish. Has a great scan ability using your camera which, after some improvements, could be the ultimate feature.
One of the main reasons for getting this tablet for most would be to make use of the s pen.
This is a short review of the note apps that make use of both handwritten and typed notes.
1. Samsung apps - snote and smemo .. really good apps and lots of editing options... Its default and I am sure every one knows about it
2. I have both lecture notes ( paid) and freenote( donate version ) .
Both are good but I like freenote more as it offers more editing options and easy to make quick notes.
Both devs are very responsive to requests..
3. If you use evernote, it has an association with skitch. Works well but very limited editing options...
4. Onenote - Best note application ever.. Nothing can beat it but in android it not well implemented yet...
In android i use onenote from microsoft and mobilenoter . Both these onenote applications needs more updates.
Onenote from Microsoft app - you will a internet connection all the time to get it working smooth... Offline access is kind of limited. No handwritten notes.
Mobilenoter is expensive but give more options to editing and viewing notes. It was terrible with handwritten notes. With the recent mobilenoter updates ( in the past few weeks) it looks much more promising. Again editing options of individual notes are very limited.
(If you ask me one app that i want in my tablet, it would be a fully working version of onenote)
Unfortunately except for evernote none of them provide a desktop syc for the handwritten notes.. If there was an app that would do this ,
There are plenty of apps out there, like phat note and so on....
please tell us more about what you use and your experience..

Is it possible to take a whole page of notes using handwriting on the Note 10.1 and then convert to text?
May be a dumb question but I'm thinking if I take lots of notes at a meeting then I would like to be able to convert them to a document.

I am exactly in the same boat. In a meeting last week I took 13 pages of notes using S-Note. I can export them to PDF but thats about it. Mobilenoter seems to be the best thing to bet on. But the reviews seem to be very negative. I don't have a problem maintaining a live account with only onenote 2010 notebooks, so if they fix their handwriting issues I'll be a customer!

If you. want to send the notes as text from S-note, use the share via option as opposed to export, however you will not be able to send drawings.
If you want to write in your own handwriting, there is an app called 7notes on Google play that will let you take notes and convert them later into text. The app has really good handwriting recognition too if you want the notes converted on the fly.
Look for Supernote ..its made by Asus and is similar to freenote in that you can handwrite anywhere and moves it to the top. Link...... http://www.everbot.com/files/Asus_Supernote_v_1.4.apk
I also use 7notes. My HW is horrific and it does a great job of converting it. You can use it anywhere, in pretty much any app that uses a keyboard.

S memo has been replaced with S Note, you can bring up the mini app version by clicking the small arrow on your status bar at the bottom to make a quick note.
I will Quill and Papyrus from the market. They both provide vector based pdf output.

Probably not exactly what you are looking for, but i use foldersync lite, with my drop box, to backup and sync my notes. I currently use lecture notes and have the folder with my notes synced every 2 hours.
Just an idea for you.
Did you do the schedule from within LN or using an external app?

Dropsync is the tool I use for autosyncing. Also LectureNotes allows export and import via .pdf, so if you can edit .pdfs you're food. Finally, Lecturenotea can export direct to Evernote.
I haven't seen it mentioned here but I like it more than Lecture Notes - Writepad Stylus works great with S Pen (and I prefer setting the pen in it to be the only input - you can do that in settings).
I quit using WS when Quill came out. I use Quill for vector and LN for all else. The LN dev rocks big dog. Working on keyboard and jpg/png image for background. Really pleased.

+1 on Freenote. I've tried LectureNotes, Quill, AntiPaper, PhatPad, and some others. Freenote offers a lot more flexibility in including ink, typed text, pics, paint, links, tags, "To Do" lists, ink calendar tracking, etc. It is the closest app to OneNote I've found on Android. I think its biggest liabilities are that the GUI is not "sexy" -- it looks clunky-- and that the range of options and tools make it confusing to figure out. Steep learning curve. But if you want to switch instantly between ink/text/images/paint, etc., I don't think it has any competition.
Best Freenote feature: The writing panel for inking. It lets me handwrite in large exaggerated strokes at the bottom of the page, which it inserts as scaled smaller ink in a straight line elsewhere on the page, and which it is smart enough to auto-wrap to the next line at the page margin. 7Notes/Mazec offers a similar feature, but I find it to be a bit more clunky since I have to hit "enter" at the end of each line before it inserts.

I too consider this to be the 'holy grail' of app features, but it is sorely lacking. I found a work-around that lets me ink on my GNote in a Word doc via Polaris, and also ink the same doc on my tablet PC via Dropbox. But to be honest, the "inking" experience I show via Polaris is so limited (very few features beyond changing ink thickness) that I have largely stuck with Freenote.

Trans device inking is a big thing and unfortunately none of the apps support it well..
However, mobilenoter which was a terrible app before, has changed a lot especially with the most recent update.
I brought this app a long time ago and had many issues.
After the most recent update I tried it again and works great..
This is what I do
1. i have folder in my sd card synced with the onenote folder in pc
2. the onenote folder in pc is synced with skydrive
3. i edit and make notes in my android using mobile noter.
4. Now all changes are synced with my pc when i get home
Limitations of mobilenoter now are
1. Mobilenoter syncing option to cloud is still not great... Hence the work around i mentioned above
2. editing options are very limited
Workaround now is to make new notes in freenote and export to mobile noter
The benefit of cloud sync is that I can open the onenotes in another pc ( on a web browser) at work and do changes.
Thanks for the suggestions. I also dream of a robust OneNote app available on Android... Until then, can I clarify a few of your tips?

I've been looking for an app which organizes pdfs and epub documents and has a reader in-built.
I know iOS has iBooks and I own Samsung Galaxy Tab which had eBooks app - you can see all the recently opened files and it lets you open them too.
Is there anything similar for Surface? What are you guys using for PDFs?
I've tried PDF Touch, Freda, Overdrive Console etc but haven't found them up to the mark.
Thanks!
PS: I don't see a forum for posting Surface Q/A, so I posted it here.

PDFs open natively and the reader buit into the SAurface is actually pretty good IMO- Annotations, highlights etc. I open large Pdfs from the insurance industry and it does the trick so far..
Regarding a general ebook reader, I am not impressed with anything yet as far as being able to import in my own epubs (as opposed to Kindle and Nook, Kobo, etc which only let you read their conten)t - I have Freda installed and its just so so - It uses the Calibre ebook management system on a desktop Pc which is a hassle, and as far as I can tell there is no way to remove books from Freda once imported in - Not too many features
it seems like the ebook readers are always a hassle on these types of devices (same form my Android) - You always need to have like 3 of them loaded to cover everything if you have your own epubs, and other formats

The inbuilt reader is okay but not many features. I wish I could choose highlight colors.
On my Galaxy Tab, I have ezPDF reader - what I like is that it shows the recently opened file on a bookshelf. I don't care about the skeuomorphism but it would be nice to be able to see bunch of recently opened files.
On a side note, is there some setting where it asks me what program to open the PDF each time I try to open a PDF file? I know how to set the default program but depending on what I'm doing, I like to use different programs.
We should all contact the maker of Mantano Reader to petition for a WinRT port. The premium version is the best pdf/epub reader I have found for any mobile device yet.

There will be a couple of further releases in the next weeks - adding various features (including the one you mention - removing imported ebooks). In the current version, you don't need to use Calibre - you can also use a filesystem/SkyDrive browser, and Freda does register itself as able to open EPUB and FB2 - so you can open them direct from internet/file explorer.
I've posted more info on the Freda development roadmap here.

Well, once the next release passes through Microsoft certification (in the next few days if we are lucky) it will support bookmarks/annotations - so you can select a word, and associate some annotation text with it. Bookmarked words are shown with a diamond-shaped tag, rather than a highlight stripe, though. I have been looking at a feature that would let you select several words or a whole block of text for highlighting, but it's tricky to get right (mainly because the UI for selecting text is complicated).

I'm not sure what kind of use case others have, but for me, highlighting is pretty important. I have PDF and epub versions of the same periodical and the only reason I go to PDF is so that I can highlight text.
Thanks for your effort though - Freda is an awesome app and I'm sure it will get better with your continued effort.
Since I can't seem to post this in the correct place (Windows 8 > Windows 8 Development & Hacking on one of the jailbroken RT app threads):
SumatraPDF 2.2.1 - look it up on Wikipedia or Google since I also can't post links...
This is a reasonably capable PDF reader. (Also, from my use of it today, it's certainly more friendly t- o touch than Foxit Reader is on a touch-capable Win8 Pro system.) It also appears to support many other formats - I tried an ePub with it and that also worked well.
I had to make a few minor patches to the source in places (expectations of x86/x64 in a few libraries), and replace the bundled JPEG library to get it to build. I'm assuming printing support will work, but I haven't had reason to test that.
A few visual anomalies seem to exist, but they also seem to be pretty minor. (The toolbar doesn't render quite right, which looks like broken icon references.)
I've attached the binary; contact me and I'll send the link to the source.
Chris
Do you know a good open source PDF editor for Windows? I am not saying you have to compile it to ARM, I can take a look at it myself
SumatraPDF is only a reader as you said.
I need to annotate PDFs and fill out forms. One app at the store does this to some extent, but it's kind of limited.
Thanks for the port; it's added to the list!
@someniceguy: You can actually ue Word 2013 to edit PDFs. If you just need annotation and form filling, though, those can be done with the built-in PDF reader (the Metro-style one). Note that annotation requires a stylus, though, so not available on Surface RT.
First of all, thanks for the info.

I can use Reader to make basic annotations such as highlighting with a given color and adding notes. Nothing else, it seems. It's a very limited program.
The only semi decent program I found is PDF Touch, but it too has limitations. For example, it gives you a very limited selection of colors for highlighting. And it does not support all types of annotations (or I could not see them), such as adding notes. The worse of it, though, is that it does not show the table of contents of the PDF, and I could not find any way to search inside the PDF.
Use ezPDF (Android) for a brief time and you realize Store Apps for PDF handling are from the stone ages.
Again, thanks for the suggestions, but still looking for that open source advanced program for PDF manipulation.
The progromm is a little bit ugly but works realy fine ! even faster then the mtro app
Yeah, it doesn't take too much to beat the speed of the Reader app. Of course, I was interested in using it with big PDFs - on average, 300 pages, mostly D&D books actually, which left me wanting a program that responded in a timely manner, and would allow me to have multiple files open at the same time, since I'm usually using them as reference material while playing... Reader blew chunks for that on an i5-480m @ 2.66, so there wasn't a chance it would do better on a far wimpier processor...
Has the developer integrated GPU rendering yet? I know he previously complained about the cost/reward ratio. Without it, though, Sumatra really lags all other readers on scanned (old) PDFs or complex ones.

Didn't look like it had any Direct2D dependencies or other such things in it. I also ended up potentially slowing it down a bit by replacing libjpeg-turbo with the original libjpeg, which had it's own gcc dependencies.
On the other hand, at least for the purposes that I wanted a PDF reader for - multiple files open at once, easy access to bookmarks, decently quick rendering - it seems to be good enough. The rendering speed isn't great, but it's better than Reader, which is the other reader I tried before building this one.

Thank you, bro. I can use it now in 2022.
Hello My names Rodger and I work for a small plastics company in Alabama. we would like to use NFC tags on are molds to track setup sheet and part information. we would like to load all this information onto a android table in PDF format and use NFC tags to open the specific file for the given tool. I have look at NFC Smart Q, NFC Tagwriter and a hole bunch of other NFC writer in the Play store. BUT none of them well open a PDF file. it just opens the adobe viewer but not the PDF file. they will open a audio file, a picture file, and even a movie file but not a PDF file, Word document, or a Excel spreadsheet. Now I have look at a windows tablet and it appears to work on windows, but I would much prefer android to windows mainly because I can get a android tablet with NFC for half the cost that a windows one cost. it seams like there should be a simple way to do this.
Is there a simple way to write a URI that will open a PDF or is there an app that will do this. any help would be appreciated.
