[Q] HTC DESIRE - Help! SIM Asking For Unlock Code - General Questions and Answers

Right, I have a big problem here...
This morning, I downgraded my HBOOT to the 0.83 version on my HTC Desire. After doing this I then installed the origional Android 2.1 Eclair onto it. Everything went perfect until my phone restarted, and then suddenly after unlocking my phone it asked for a SIM Unlock PIN. I have a PIN on my SIM, but this is the PIN you enter to initally acess your phone as a security feature, and when I inputter this code it DID NOT work. So I need quite a bit of help with dealing with this problem. I have managed to get a temporary fix on the problem, by tweaking a bit and installing a different pre-rooted ROM, however I would like to run a Un-Branded version of Froyo 2.2 on my HTC Desire.
I have a British HTC Desire on Orange Contract <I Have Heard Orange Contract Sims Are Blocked?>
All help is greatly appreciated, first post aswell so I hope someone can help thankyou

Orange Branded Kaiser to Official HTC Rom

I am getting an Orange branded Kaiser next week and will want to revert it to the official HTC Rom, I have never done anything like this so am a bit green. I have downloaded the file RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship.rar
Can any one tell me if this is the official English version of the HTC rom and also is all I have to is follow the idiots guide in the other thread on this forum.
I'd recommend you ask orange for the sim unlock code before attempting this.
Unless you're happy to flash your phone and be unable to use *any* (including oranges) sim in it.

is it the same for T-Mobile? Had a HTC TYTN and now a T-Mobile Vario III and prefer to have the HTC rom because I cannot get the Windos live to auto sync / as messages arrive post a SR ever
Cheers

Your fine to upgrade as long as you don't touch the radio portion of the Rom.
HardSPL your phone, then decompile the HTC rom and create a new rom using only the OS portion. then install using Pofs custome RUU installer.
Cheers
I held back on changing my Orange UK ROM for the same sim-lock reasons. However I simply used HardSPL first & then flashed my phone with the Sleuth ROM as it doesn't touch the radio & therefore bypasses the sim-lock issue.
Am now very happy and de-oranged.

Apologies in advances for the noobness of this question. I have an Orange Tytn II and would like to use it on O2. I've been using the phone for calls, so it's unlocked. I've got Internet settings for the O2 Stellar from O2 and entered them but it still won't connect making it rather useless to me.
From reading it seems to by because the radio is locked to Orange? CID locked? is that right?
I've successfully run the HardSPL, which I understand will now enable me to install other ROMs. What I'm not clear on is if I do this if I will permanently SIMlock the Orange phone or if the HardSPL gets round this problem and I'll be safe to put on another ROM and so letting me get online and 'deOrangig the phone'.
I've read that I can put on a ROM as long as it doens't touch the radio. But does this releveant only if you want to stay on Orange? Will it let you use another network SIM? And which ROM would that be anyway.
Bit confused as you can see. Any help appreciated.

Two problems i need help with

I brought a unlock code to unlock my uk orange htc hero G2 and it unlocked but i got no signal when a simcard other than orange was inserted. So i asked around on some forums and a guy told me to flash my phone with the RUU Hero HTC Asia SEA WWE 2.73.728.5 release signed NoDriver firmware. The phone now lets me use a vodafone sim as well as the orange sim but my virgin mobile sim i always use won't work. It reads ok but i can't dial in or out. Any help would be great.
And i rooted the hero the other day but since i flashed the phone with this update i can't get in the root menu. All i get is a triangle with a ! in and a pic of a phone. How do i reroot.

[Q] HTC Desire S - Vodaphone UK Android 2.3.5 & Sense 3.0 update?

Hi there, I currently own an HTC Desire S, the information for it is below:
Android version:
2.3.3
HTC Sense version:
2.1
Software number:
1.28.401.1
Operator name:
vodaphone UK
I haven't yet recieved the Android 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 update. I have tryed searching for updates and checking in using that checkin dial code. I'm just wondering if there's anyway to install this official update onto my phone with minimal risk? I've looked around the forums but can't find exactly what i'm looking for (or I just can't find it!).
Thanks!
I think that you have got the same software version 1.28.401.1 that I had until recently.
I would like to have used to OTA update route but basically got tired of waiting.
I believe that the OTA update was targetted (certainly at first) specifically at those people who already received the previous (troublesome) update to 1.47.
I believe this explains why we didn't get the update.
I loaded the RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5_Radio_20.4801.30. 0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_219480_signed from the development section here and it works a treat. No problems.
The only thing that puzzles me is that my phone is very definitely unbranded and not operator locked, whereas you mention Vodaphone. (If your phone was locked to Vodaphone I would have expected a different software version).
Anyway, if your phone is unlocked like mine, I would certainly recommend using the RUU.

Thanks very much for your reply.
Yeah, unfortunately my phone is in fact locked to Vodaphone, and I couldn't find the equivalent update that you listed for unlocked phones.
i have a vodafone as well on the same firmware and never got it.
from what i hear the update was pulled due to instability so if you didnt receive it already i very much doubt you will untill a new version is released.
i gave up waiting and went to endymion 3.5

Are you sure it's locked?!
I thought that software version was for the generic european unlocked version.
Someone else help me here - can the same software number apply to both operator locked and unlocked phones?

i can confirm the htc euro ruu DOES NOT WORK ON VODAFONE BRANDED DEVICES. it bricked my phone and took a whole lot of work to downgrade back to the old hboot to get it working again. the only way to install this version on a voda desire s is via goldcard.it will just give you a cid error and brick your device

Completely agree, great care needed !
But my point was, the software version1.28.401.1 reported by Biogeneric appears to be the same as I had until recently on my unbranded phone.
I thought that if his phone was locked to Vodaphone, wouldn't it have a different software number? Or can the operator lock the phone to their network without changing this software version away form the "generic" one?
- Steve
I'm with Vodaphone, and it says my network is "vodaphone UK" so i'm assuming it's locked! How am I supposed to find out without putting a different networks Sim in?

Mine (which recently had the same software version and in NOT operator locked) simply says the name of whatever SIM card you insert.
I suspect your phone may be unlocked, but I'd like feedback from a more experienced developer before suggesting that you load the RUU! We don't want any nasty accidents
By the way, I've just loaded RUU for 2.10.401.8 and it's looking good so far...
Okay, I tried putting in an Orange sim card and setting the network to Orange and it appears to all work (well, I had signal on it, and the network was stated as "Orange"). So i'm assuming my phone is in fact unlocked then?
If so, great news! Am I all clear to update to that unlocked version then? Anyone got a link to the newest one? (Not any mods etc. just the standard update!).
Thanks all!

I believe that the most recent RUU is RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8_Radio_20.4801.30. 0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_225161_signed.exe
in the "Shipped Desire S ROM Collection" :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506
I loaded this last night and not experienced any problems so far.
Be warned that this will wipe all existing data on your phone, so make sure that you have got everything saved. In some respects, this is a good thing because you are sure of getting a completely fresh install.
I can't see any reason why this shouldn't work for you, but I wouldn't feel bad if you got a second opinion

Okay thanks very much! I'll try updating it via that ROM tonight - hopefully I won't brick it!
Does anyone know if updating the phone using this method voids the warranty?
Also, how do I actually install that update to my phone? Seen a few tutorials scattared around but some are for different things and I don't want to mess it up! (Easiest/quickest method please, if there is one ha!)
Thanks a lot for your help Steve!

I expect that doing almost anything other than the "official" OTA update theoretically voids warranty. But perhaps more important, if it all went horribly wrong, could anyone detect that you were fiddling with it
If you returned a phone rooted or S-off, then it's asking for trouble.
The discussed RUU is a signed update that does not invoke S-off or root the phone so should not create an "obvious" problem.
The way I updated my phone was as follows:
- I already had HTC Sync installed on my PC
- Fully charged phone
- Downloaded the RUU file to folder on hard disk
- Temporarily disabled my antivirus
- Temporarily disabled standby power saving option on PC
- Connected the phone as normal and selected the option on phone to do Sync
- I let the phone completely finish sync
- I ran the RUU on the PC and followed the simple instructions.
- It took about 10 minutes with no user intervention required.
I don't know if the whole HTC Sync thing is necessary, it was on my PC anyway and the procedure has worked OK for me.
I can now confirm this has all worked for me. no problems so far!
Thanks for all your help fasty! Very much appreciated.

Great news! Be sure to thank "Football" because he is the one that has done the hard work making these ROMs available.
Hi not sure if posting in correct thread but I am on O2 and also have the 1.28.401.1 software and just been informed by HTC my phone is unbranded despite coming straight from O2. Has anyone received the update whilst being on 1.28.401.1? Am i wasting my time holding out for an OTA update?

[Q] Staying Sim Unlocked and flash stock Rom

Hello,
I have tried to find an answer to my problem and can't seem to find it anywhere. Hopefully someone here will be able to assist.
Ok So I have an HTC ARIA, sim unlocked, and rooted using unrevoked3, running Aria Liberated custom ROM. Here is my problem I am not NAND (s-0ff) rooted. I have tried running revolutionary and also unrevoked forever. Neither worked. The problem is that I have hboot 0.57.0000 and I need version 1.02.0000 to make those programs work. Additionally, I need the phone to stay sim unlocked as I am in Germany for the next 3 years and am using a German cell phone company. So what I need is eithor a way to NAND root with hboot version 0.57.0000, or confirmation that if I install the stock upgrade to Android 2.2 (available on the HTC website) that my HBoot issue will be fixed with out loosing my sim unlock. I purchased the phone on ebay unlocked, I am not nor have I ever been an AT&T customer so I don't know where I would go to unlock the sim card again if it should become locked, and I don't know the code to unlock it.
Thanking you in advanced

[Q] Rooted HTC One X (Endeavoru) on Cyanogenmod 12.0 won't network unlock (with code)

Good evening all,
I am very new to all of this so please be bear with me. I have searched through the forum extensively but haven't been able to find a solution to my problem.
I have an HTC One X (Endeavoru / Tegra 3) which is currently network locked to T-Mobile UK.
I have followed various guides on XDA carefully and successfully unlocked the bootloader using HTCDev code & adb/fastboot, rooted my phone and installed Cyanogenmod 12.0. It is all working perfectly and I'm very happy with the results.
My problem is I want to put in an O2 Sim Card and my phone is locked to T-Mobile UK. I purchased an unlock code for £9.99 (officialunlockcodes.com) and popped in my O2 Sim but after inputting the code into my phone, it said that the unlock was NOT successful and I still get the same message (Network / Perso Lock).
So my first question is, is the fact that my phone is running a custom ROM & unlocked/rooted preventing the unlock code from working?
My second question is a about reverting back to original HTC settings/software in order to unlock the network.
I read on a forum that someone else had issues using an unlock code on a custom ROM with unlocked bootloader. He reverted back to stock ROM and locked the bootloader and it worked for him. He then reinstalled the custom ROM and it was all fine. I have tried (and failed) to do the same but I cannot find any stock ROM or a Nandroid backup that is compatible with my phone.
The version is 3.16.110.6 and the CID is tmob005. Htboot version is 1.39.
I used TWRP Recovery & this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-x/orig-development/storage-layout-hox-endeavoru-t3022358 for updating to the new storage layout for HTC One X Endeavoru and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...nofficial-htc-one-x-cyanogenmod-12-0-t2976389 for my installation of Cyanogenmod 12.0. (both great resources!)
When I unlocked the bootloader & rooted my phone, I used ClockworkMod as the recovery tool and I did take a back up. However, I foolishly wiped my SD card & storage before I updated to the new storage layout (and changed to TWRP recovery tool) when I was installing Cyanogenmod 12.0 a few days later so as far as I'm aware, I can't simply restore my original ROM.
Does anyone have any ideas? Ideally, all I want to do is unlock the carrier/network and continue using my phone as it is with Cyanogenmod 12.0 but if I need to revert back to stock ROM to unlock the network, I'm prepared to do that. I just don't know how as I've searched through the collections and archives here and can't find a stock ROM or Nandroid backup that's compatible. I may be getting myself very confused on this as I don't really understand CID so I hope I've not missed anything obvious.
I've also tried achieving S-OFF with firewater & rumrunner but it fails and from what I can tell through various threads and research, S-OFF isn't possible yet for my model of HTC One X.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much Amber
