I have googled the heck out of google, and searched a few forums and my head just spins. I see that there are many custom roms that offer the change, but Im not interested in customs roms at the moment. Is there a zip file that I could add?
If i missed something, sorry for adding another thread on the matter...
My Evo is rooted, and Im using Launcher Pro.
search for smooth sense mods
I am running Cyanogen MOD, which has that as an option, but I also use a widget you can download for free in the market called BATTSTATT. You can have it display the battery percentage written out or numerically. It is really nice looking, granted it is a widget and perhaps not quite what you are looking for.
For the stock rom I use Battery Indicator, it adds a percentage to the upper left in your notification bar.

Hi
I was just wondering if it is possible to download new widgets to work with the release of 1.5.
I found the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3681080 thread which is the competition but am unsure how to actually access any of the submissions?
I also found a weather app and can download the .apk file but am unsure where to save in the root?

Thanks

Im using the weather app, its nice. I just wish it updated more thruout the day and also it showed your current location, however its pretty sweet. all you have to do is download the apk installer from the market, copy the apk to your SD card and then look for it and launch it using the installer.
in the market there is a battery widget a sticky note widget and some others
The submissions for the contest are not public yet.
i am extremely excited about widgets...i have the battery one but cant seem to get the weather widget to work...
also anyone find any other widgets thus far...when does the widget contest end?
I'm not a huge fan of the battery widget. I prefer Battery Status in my notification bar for that.
But the weather widget is superb! And the sticky note widget is pretty nice too. I'll probably stick with AK Notepad and it's ability to add icons for certain notes to the desktop...
But I am impressed that so far they all are visually pleasing. Can't WAIT to see what the geniuses here at XDA (and elsewhere, for that matter) come up with soon!
Has anyone noticed a perceptible difference in resource usage or battery life while using widgets? The android OS is already incredibly slow compared to say an iphone, and while 1.5 and A2SD seems to help a lot i still have to try fairly hard to keep the background processes at bay. Having widgets would be great, but not at the expense of any more speed.
i havent noticed and slow downs and i have the batery widget the search widget and te clock widget...
edit: title should read poll, how did i mess that up? and now how do i fix it? mods?
edit: fixed, figured it out, im a newb to forums
i was poking around the evo forum for my friend and discovered miui. if you dont know it is a chinese rom that has been built for many snapdragon htc phones and translated into engrish.
it takes some of the better aspects of the iOS like the visually apealing menu skins and layouts and the thumbnail folder icons, has a dock much like iOS with drag and drop icons and no app drawer that can hold 5 apps.
apparently also has a secondary launcher that can come from the top of the screen presumably when you hit the home button that is like a standard android launcher.
has a unique app drawer that slides halfway down and tumbnails of the home screen pages pop up so you can move multiple apps to multiple screens without the drawer auto closing and a need to reopen for each app.
^this drawer is for widgets there is no app drawer, that can be fixed by putting apps in a folder and putting the folder on the launcher like an iphone.
it still has the android pull down notification bar and apparently has a scolling dock with toggles as well
i would love to see a port and some themes to go along with it. or a launcher/home app with some features borrowed.
check it out here:

some of the theming is a little odd and im alittle unsure if the screen space is enough for some of the features to be practical but it is interesting none the less.
also they have a browser that is apparently not with the rom that is said to be good.

I played with this rom on the Nexus, it's fantastic, extremely smooth, better battery then cyanogen, very nice overall feel.
I'd love to have this ported over to our galaxys
i love miui. i have i on my n1. my friend has a cappy, he would love to see it on the cappy. i was thinking about making a [idea] post in the dev forum. see if anyone has thought about it. i figure when froyo comes out for the cappy that there may be a port. i wish i knew how to dev for android.

i think the i-9000 guys are working it. i cant code, or dev. i dont like to make requests that i cant contribute to. i was just hoping if people see this then some of our devs might jump in. i think the great aosp work being done will help pave a road for this. but we dont even have a working true aosp rom yet. although designgears did get many aosp apps working in his dev rom.
if we could get some of the features even if we needed a samsung dialer and other apps a hybrid rom would be cool. the widget tray is a great idea. although i like the android app drawer, especially the galaxy s scrolling alphebetical list implementation (i can scan a column pretty good, i cant scan a page very good), this rom has features that i think would be great.
I want it ..
I want. Please.
My XT720 is using Rom Dexter's Froyo and when i want to know how much the battery left it has, i must use some widget suchas Battery Life, and it take some Ram Memory, about 3-5MB Ram.
So.. i wonder if it could use another battery status by changing it. at sample, the HD2 or Moto Cliq can use update.zip to change their status bar and it's icon.
you could have change the theme as you favorite....another apps to try Battery Calibration
I have a similar question In a thread regarding the LG evolution they managed to do a battery mod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156721
I tried several times and almost bricked my microsd only to find out later that clockwork isn't compatible with xt720 in addition to being ever so finnicky.
If the above instruction do not work then would it be possible to run this through Metamorph quite like how someone did the Gingerbread theme-ing.
I applied that one with relative ease
Thanks to any and all who come up with something or contribute some relevant knowledge im missing
You can use metamorph to change one icon or zipthemer to change a group of them all at once. Zipthemer also creates an undo.zip in case you want to go back to previous.

I just saw that in the windows phone 7 launcher (available free in android market), there is an option in the launcher settings (under status bar options) which whch says: Display current battery percentage. After ticking that option, the battery percentage appears in the status bar! As far as i know, this is the only launcher which this feature. Hope that helps!
I don't know but I do know the new XDA special beta2 is a nearly perfect ROM with battery accurate at 10% increments. Thats the best I've seen. Also Widgetsoid is pretty cool.

I tried metamorph and Zipthemer but the best way i can put it is;
Its missing the Theme Control File
So i threw one in and even then, no dice
I guess clockwork doesn't need a Theme control file??
And i guess this framework is limited to that phone model
Hello all,
New to the forums and I'm pretty much a complete newb to smart phones as well (I haven't had a cell phone in close to 5 years lol). Anyway, got a Galaxy S2 a couple weeks ago, started wondering about customization, etc and ran into this site.
Looking at some of the home screens you guys come up with, they are amazing.
But, I honestly have no idea where to start to make my own. Do I need to root my phone to do this stuff? Or, is it as simple as downloading some themes and icons and installing them?
I don't mind reading and/or teaching myself how to do it, but, if someone could just point me the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers.
actually , you have no need to root your phone if you just want to change some icons or themes , but you may change your launcher so you can use those themes or dock icons that you have download in xda .
Try different launchers to replace your standard home, they're all good. Adw is what I normally use, launcher pro is good, go launcher also.
sinkster
I was actually curious about this too. I like PyroMod, but I think the Opacity of the windows should be closer to 80% and the notification fonts should be white instead of black. What specifically do I need to modify for this to work?
Thanks for the replies.
I downloaded and installed Launcher Pro, just to try...I have read about ADW and a couple others that I will try as well once I get the hang of this thing.
Are there any problems that may pop up with the phone using 2 launchers? I guess not or you guys wouldn't be using them.
im using launcher pro and zeam launcher and i had no problems so far
Without rooting, you can change icons on your homescreen (using a home replacement app and/or Desktop Visualizer), use modified widgets as long as they're not system apps, customize your lock screen with WidgetLocker, and of course change your wallpaper. You can also use something like Multipicture LWP to do a bit more creative stuff - like embedding icons on the wallpaper in PS and stuff.
With rooting you can do all of those things, plus modify your status bar & notification icons, change icons for apps officially (not just on the homescreen), modify system apps or remove them, etc etc. If you have no reason to root, don't. It's a common misconception that you have to root to make your phone look good. While it definitely helps, it's not necessary.
If you do plan on rooting and are interested in theming, see if MIUI is available for your device. You may like it, and the theming possibilities are endless. If you don't like it or it isn't available, other roms have theming built in as well - CM7 is one that comes to mind.

Rooting might be something I would think about down the road, but, being so new to this I will probably hold off for now. I wouldn't mind unlocking it at some point though as I do travel to the States a couple times a year and would like the freedom that provides for my trips.
Thanks for the detailed reply, it is appreciated and I will look into some of those apps that you mentioned.
Hi there can anyone help, I noticed Google has added an official battery percentage indicator into Lollipop. However it only shows up active when the phone is plugged into power charging and also only shows up on the lock screen (see screenshot from N5).
Is there a way to enable this permanently as none of the apps out there really cut it for this feature, is there a thread on this topic as I cannot seem to find one??
I guess on stock ROM you have to live with what you've got. There are a few apps out there which can show a notification on the left side of the statusbar. But that's not a good solution.
Nearly every custom ROM supports changing the battery symbol though (with percentage / without ...)

Much appreciated for the response experience7! sorry my bad, my poor explanation I'm happy to run a different ROM etc but was wondering if this modification can be done with say an adb cmd under root if it's just a flag within lollipop or is the only way with a ROM?? if so can you recommend one that's as close to stock as possible for Nexus 5 that allows this as there is so many?
You could try stock ROM with Xposed Framework.. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of customization module which lets you handle how battery icon / percentage should look like and when they should be visible. Not sure if GravityBox is compatible with Lollipop yet.
I read somewhere that Cataclysm ROM should be stock-based with lots of features! There's a thread here on xda-developers Maybe read OP / search / ask there if it has the option
