[POLL] What notepad do you use? - Android Apps and Games

I've been trying to find a great notepad but I haven't found a really great app.
I'll give you a list of the notepad's I've tried and there features:
aNotepad:
Simple small notepad (no special features)
OI notepad:
Save txt to SD
auto create links
AK notepad:
pin to homescreen
sync with snaptic.com
remider
XM notepad:
Looks really great
Note everything:
Should be able to import notes from outlook but the process it too complicated for it to be really possible to keep syncing them
Ok if you use any other notepad (+features) or if I forgot a feature or something just let me know.

I've been trying to find a note taking app also. One of the few things I liked from WM was the built-in Notes functionality, where starting it provided a list of your existing notes, or let you create new ones. Making new notes was quick and simple, you didn't have to select edit before editing your existing notes, you didn't have to save your notes since they automatically saved when you closed them, etc etc. I used it in the car to jot down the names and artists for songs on the radio I liked, so ease of use was important so I preferably didn't crash.

I've been looking for a damn decent Wiki program for Android and I have yet to find one.. I've tried Wikilin, Wikimind Lite, and some other random ones I've removed.. All are painful to edit with, or don't really give a good experience in regards to being a wiki (easily link other pages, back references, etc)..
but for just flat-out notes, Catch is nice in its Snaptic sync..

Personally, I'm a big fan of a program called mNote
Here is a link to it on AppBrain.
It uses your SimpleNote account (simplenoteapp.com), which is free, and automagically syncs all your notes across whatever platforms you have software installed on. It's kind of like dropbox for simple notes.

None of these.
I use Text Edit, which is literally a .txt editor.
Sync with Dropbox (among other files) for instant viewing and editing on multiple PCs and my phone.

Except that the Dropbox Android app doesn't automatically update, right? Last I messed with it, it was basically just a GUI front end to the website with some perks, not a full time sync like the desktop, or even a manual sync.. Maybe it's changed.

I use Catch Notes (used to be called 3banana notes), same makers of AK Notepad. They might not sound familiar because they recently changed names (used to be snaptic). I like it because it syncs with their site, which can be accessed on a PC. So longer notes can be easily typed on your computer and simply synced later, and vice versa.
As a bonus, you can add pics and other media to notes if you wish.

you need a other option.
I use Springpad. LOVEIT

I use [Notes] by Yuli for quick notes (time/place tracking) via it's note list's time stamp
and [Note Me] by Paramvir Bali for long term notes/ project tracking and such. (tags)(send to calendar).
Both are instant edit+auto save, no cloud, local storage only (which I like).
Both have dark/black theme which goes well with the android UI imo.

I'll have to try it again! Any particular directory? Anything to do to make this sync when opened? I just opened it and it just sat there, didn't do anything except open my list of folders/files.

Umm...why does Notes need to be able to send SMS messages? Reading messages and contact data, I can see that, if it can automatically take notes on current calls, texts, etc. But SENDING messages??

I browse to the directory with the files that were changed on my phone and after a few seconds it auto-uploads the files. You have to "sit" in the folder for a second or two before it will auto-upload the files in that folder.
Infinitely better than connecting a USB cable and mounting the drive.

Catch Notes for me. Great program. Makes the inbuilt one on the iphone I used to have look very, very silly indeed.

Catch for me ..
In Android I've tried ColourNote, Note Everything, Astrid Tasks and Catch. So far for me, Catch wins with ease of use, a few simple extra features and syncing. It doesn't record audio, but I didn't much use that feature in notes anyway.
I was trying to find one which would open Windows Notepad's obscure .pwi files with no success, as I use notes almost daily. I use Win7 on PC, so syncing/converting with active sync is a non-option. To transfer them to Catch is a little clumsy, but you only have to do it once. On my HD2 under WM6.5, I open a note, select all, copy, then go to catch.com in the browser and paste it into a new note .. repeat. Once booted into Anroid, syncing gets your notes onto your phone and is accessible/editable on any PC, or thru WM using the browser.
One suprise, I have a really long text file for my homebrew beer log which was in Word. It's always taken ages to open/edit on my phone, but was instantly editable in catch!

Best Notes App?

I was trying to find one for school that allows me to type AND draw all on the same note (like for Math class where I need to type definitions and draw graphs) The only one that is close is freenote but it always says it runs out of memory and loses my notes. I can't find one that does both keyboard and drawings in one. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!
Evernote? They just integrated Skitch in the last update.

Just checked this out and that should work, thanks for the info. Just wish the drawings would be with the note like freenote.
Look into Classic Notes + App Box. It does a little of everything, including typed notes, drawing, etc...

There is another new one called AntiPaper you may want to look at too.
+ 1antipaper.
handwrite will also do both.

I've been using Evernote for years and really like it. It's like a blank canvas for you to create your own method of organization. It took me a why to create a folder structure that worked for the various things I need to keep track of.
Springpad is another good one out there. It has some prebuilt organization structures that will help you get started much quicker than with evernote such as a blank notes, tasks (with check boxes) and the ability to add items via search or scanning a barcode.

Has anyone tried pensupremacy..I haven't but curious how it is?
I spent a few weeks trying to figure out a good set up for class notes..
Check out Freenote. IDK why nobody else suggests it, but it lets you do everything. you can record sound and input them, take pictures, take video, and put all these things right in the same note.
You can write with a stylus, and after each word it automatically shrinks it to whatever font size you want and in line, so that you can write big and clear.
You can draw free hand.
And you can type right in the same lines as all the above.
Its by far the best note taking app available that I have tried; and i have tried literally every one of them listed above.
The other app i would suggest is Repligo Reader. If your classes are anything like my classes, they give tons of notes on PDF. Well this app is a pdf editor, you can draw on them, and input text boxes to type in, and then save it all within the PDF.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the input, but I mentioned that in the OP. I get the out of memory issue in Freenote all the time!
usually i just use the default office app that comes with the Transformer to take notes... typed notes that is... not handwritten.
I am kind of frustrated by the lack of a school-oritented notes program that features both typing and drawings.
After over a month of searching, I found freenote to be the only program sporting both features, and unfortunately it is incredibly buggy, has a terrible UI, and just looks ugly.
My work around has been to use ezPDF Reader, which by nature is a PDF annotation tool. I created a series of 40-page blank pdfs and open them up in the app. From there I can add text boxes, hand drawings and pre-set drawings...with them saved as PDFs. It has worked so far but ultimately it is really ridiculous that no one is capitalizing on this. The Applestore sports dozens of applications that do this and I have no clue why all we have available is Freenote. Missed opportunity right there.

Im suprised you have so many issues with freenote, I use it daily and have never had an issue
I agree there is tons of room for improvement though, both in free notes interface, and the need for other options in general.
when do you typically get the out of memory issue?
is it adding multiple pics, and documents to your worksheet?
or just continuing on the same page forever?
or just random occurances?
I typically do one page per section, so they remain fairly short, and rarely add more than one or two pics to a page. I just hand draw stuff instead of taking pictures.
Off curiosity, whats your favorite stylus?
I love Colornote on app market

I think SuperNote is the best note taking app..
is very similar to FreeNote in the functionality (text, handwritten, drawing, insert picture, ...) but has a beautiful tablet interface..
+1 for AntiPaper Notes HD that someone has mentioned in this thread that is a good alternative in case you don't like SuperNote..
Writepad Stylus is nice, it has palm detection so you don't have to worry about awkwardly floating your palm over the screen as you write. And typing support too!

I completely agree. SuperNote is awesome. It does everything the OP requested and is free.
SuperNote is great, but it lacks RTL support. Writepad doesn't care much what language and direction you're writing.

Must-have apps for Android

Personal opinion, this is a list of Android apps that you should have on your Android device. Of course, there are hundreds of thousands of apps in Google Play, if you like any others and think they are "must-have apps", free to leave a comment below.
1. Dropbox
Everyone knows what Dropbox is and if you don’t you should get it. Cloud storage for all your devices so you can access files from anywhere, on any of your devices. An extremely helpful app that is free and uses someone Else’s storage space.

2. AirDroid
Transfer just about anything you can think back and forth between PC and your device over Wi-Fi with AirDroid. As well as that you can send messages, update contacts, change ringtones and control most things you would want to from your computer, all through a web-based interface.
3. SMS Backup and Restore
If you are an Android User who has a rooted device and tests out new Roms regularly, but wish to keep your SMS messages on your phone, or maybe if you are just a bit of a paranoid parrot, then SMS Backup and Restore is an app for you.
4. Moborobo
Don’t waste the seconds it takes to open up your browser and type in moborobo.com. Moborobo is a leading Android Smartphone Management Software that can be installed on your Windows PC. With Moborobo, the management of your Android Smartphone becomes fun and easy. Manage contact data: Sort, find, organize and backup your contact data, such as your contact list as well as your messages. You can create groups for your contacts and import/export them between your pc and your device.
5. Pocket
Pocket is an Android app that allows you to save web content to view later. Saving the content within the Pocket Android App, you can view it at your leisure at any time on your Android device, or even send the list to an email to be accessible from wherever you like.
6. Google Maps
Google Maps is one of the most useful apps available for Android. Plot courses, get guided towards your destination or just look for better paths. Google Maps is an excellent GPS navigation tool for Android users.
7. Wikipedia
Open up your browser and type in Wikipedia.com. Open the Android app and type in your search that is sure to deliver you with the best Wikipedia results for your search terms. Provides all Wikipedia function so get it now.
8. Angry Birds(multiple incarnations)
It seems like everyone in the world has or have had a go at Angry Birds. Don’t get left behind as someone who hasn’t experienced it. Plus, it’s a great time waster for those periods of utter boredom. A new version with new game mechanics is released every now and then, so the fun will never run out with Angry Birds.
9. Go Launcher EX
Go Launcher EX might not be as fancy looking as some of the launchers that specialize in animations and cool effects, but I dare say it's more functional than many of them. My own reason for using it has a lot to do with the widgets, both in terms of functionality and the ability to make them look the same.
Well, those are my own favour. Sure, not everyone will enjoy all of these apps. You can provide what you are interested in. Or if you like the list of apps, you can have a try!
It will be a bit Captain Obvious-ish but here goes:
* Titanium Backup
*AnTuTu Benchmark
*No-frills CPU / SetCPU
*System Tuner
*ES File Explorer
*Link2SD
*Google Googles
*AK Notepad (Straightforward Notepad App, very useful if you have a memory capacity like me - as much as a fish)
*(Optional, for campers, xtreme sports nuts etc.) US Army Survival Guide
Never heard of Air Droid. Definitely a fan of transfering things over wifi. Currently use SwifTP. Will try Air Droid. Thanks

Yeah, AirDroid is absolutly wonderful and the interface is quite beautiful after connect through WiFi. But it does not have the backup and restore feature. I thought it a pity. So I sometimes use Moborobo to backup my data. I will use many similar apps at the same time so that I can manage my device better.
You guys forgot the most important apps of all, and the only reason for some of us to buy a smartphone.
google voice and grooveip = free phone service.
I've also been using advanced wifi lock, because my x10 mini w/cm-8 won't follow the wifi keepalive setting.
thats obvious! the dialer is the most essential app on my phone. next are contacts and calendar. the rest is optional
I think you can now add Flipboard to the list.

BEFORE REPLYING ON THIS TOPIC WITH YOUR REQUEST PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING ANSWERS TO MOST REQUESTED FEATURES
- Access to notes by website and other OS devices like Windows
Due to the cost of hosting a service that would allow access to the notes by a website this feature is not planned in the up coming months.
- Adding photo's / drawings and handwriting
Note list is currently focusing on getting the best user experience for writing notes by keyboard.
There are many items that I want to implement before switching the focus on other kind of note taking options.

DEVELOPERS PLEASE READ
If you are an Android developer and want to write a widget or other app that communicates with Note list, you can use the Note list content provider.
The content provider allows you to communicate (read only) with Note list and query data from the app.
The data specifications of the content provider can be found at this GitHub project:
Note list development library
You will need to add the Note list read data permission to your app manifest, this will be visible to the user.
The user also needs to allow third party apps to read data from Note l!st, this is a setting in the preference screen in Note list.
If you have published an app that uses the Note l!st content provider, you can join the beta test community on Google+ to test your code before updates get published. Contact me with a link to your app and I will send you an invitation.

No there is no backup or restore feature at the moment. I'm thinking on how I want to implement such features. My initial idea was to create my own cloud service. This would give me more options and better synchronization performance. But hosting a service like that cost money and the app only generates a few dollars each month. So if the download numbers do not go up a lot in the up coming weeks it's no option. Therefor I'm now looking into other cloud solutions like synchronizing with dropbox. However this will be less efficient and more limited than running my own service, also users can alter the files on dropbox and break the synchronization. It's not ideal but at the moment it looks like the only way for my to create a synchronization/backup feature.
Other backup features could be saving the notes to the sd card. I Do want to write something like that in the future.
At the moment the only way to export your notes from the app is by using the share function, that way you can save it to a email or text file. But it's one note at the time and you can not read them back into the app.
If anyone has good ideas please let me know, I'm still looking for the best solution.

It's on my long term todo list haha. Very looooonnnggg todo list.
It's a shame most other notes apps have about 2 year head start on me. I'm having great suggestions from users and ideas that would be great in the app.

Very well done app! You may add the cloud sync and it become one of the greatest!
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus con Tapatalk 2
Very nice design
I install it and going to test..
And possibly send a donation
The app looks great! I've just downloaded it and will give it a test ride.
My suggestion for an online sync - box.com
It gives users a possibility to map the cloud drive as additional HDD through webDAV. I am not sure what options for cloud sync you have in mind, but I think that since the webDAV folders act as local drives it can give you a wide range of possibilities.
Framework
You used any framework for UI?
What an absolutely brilliant note taking app!!
I really hope to see cloud sync (to Dropbox would be awesome) and an accommodating Windows based app so that notes can be added/deleted/edited etc on a PC.
Multi selection of items to apply batch actions (e.g.: delete) would also be good.
I'll definitely be donating for this one. Thank you!

Background: My company is a Google Apps for Business enterprise user and I need handrwritten to text notes for a lot of meetings. The ideal solution is using Google Keep, or S-Notes with S-Pen and then syncing to Google Drive.
Situation: 1) When I use Google Keep everything works fine until I open the document in the Drive and it is a Polaris, or Kings Office file format, not Google Docs - and not editable; 2) When I use S-Note, everything works until I open, edit and try to re-save the file within Google Drive. I get an error message: file not saved.
The Solution: I can write directly into a Googls Doc using the S-Pen but prefer using Google Keep, or S-Notes.
Is anyone successfully using Google Keep with S-Pen, or S-Note to save to documents to Google Drive, editing those documents and then re-saving to Google Drive?
Thank you!

The ideal solution is using Google Keep with S-Pen and then syncing to Google Drive. However, when I do this procedure everything works fine until I open the document in the Drive and it is a Polaris text file with none of the notes. I tried to uninstall Polaris but this task does not seem possible.
The Solution: Any thoughts? I can write directly into a Googls Doc using the S-Pen but prefer using Google Keep. S-Notes and Evernote do not let you edit documents once you upload them to the Drive. And when I even try Polaris documents to the Drive, they are either txt files, or you cannot edit them.
Thank you!

Have you tried Kingsoft Office? You can sync with Dropbox. Box.net and Google drive. There is the standard version available on Play and a version for the S-pen, which they brought out last November that you can download from their site here: http://www.kingsoftstore.com/android-office-samsung Kingsoft is my preferred Office app on the Note.
Thanks, I down loaded the apk and see the sync / share with Evernote but not Google Drive ... I will investigate tonight
Duh ... Found it ... Now to test ... Not real intuitive how you actually get it to sync once you link with Google Drive ... I am not getting it to automatically Sync

I personally like LectureNotes partly because of its simple formats. It saves all the pages as individual bitmap images, easy to view and edit with every device known to mankind (kind of). Text saves either in the picture or as a separate .txt file. It's not exactly what you asked for, but my suggestion would be as follows: Use LectureNotes for note-taking on the tablet. Download the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full to sync your LectureNotes folder with the cloud service (ie Google drive).
You will now have an awesome note taking app and will have your notes avaliable everywhere on basically every device.

Thank you for the response. Lecture Notes is a nice note taking app ... I really like the interface ... but I really need the notes to be editable within Google Docs.
It does appear that NoteSync is the best approach to have notes SYNC with Google Drive

I think I found something
I just found this app like 10 minutes ago and remembered finding this thread a while back and thought I should share, it might help someone.
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lv.piip.sketchforkeep
Let's you sketch or write with your spen and when finished adds it to keep as a new note. From what I can let there is no editing after its added to keep because it saves as an image but I am just happy I can save to keep and keep everything in one place.
Hope it helps

[APP][4.2+] PhotoGuard - Photo Vault Hide Photos & Videos ?

Hello guys !
A few days ago, I released the app I've been working on for the about 2 years - PhotoGuard.
PhotoGuard is basically a photo vault and it will protect your photos & videos.
The main architecture was shared with some of the best security consultants, applying it.
Knowing my competitors, best efforts were taken on:
1. Security - Making sure that the encrypted files will be stored on the user's devices (without any servers involved), and indeed unbreakable without knowing someone's passphrase. (If anyone would like to know extra information about the way it was implemented in the app, send me a message please)
2. UI/UX - Making sure that the security layer is as much as transparent to the endpoint user, so that the UI/UX is beautiful and smooth.
Currently the app doesn't have any ads or premium payments (even though the app page states there are), so it's totally free app.
I'll be very glad if you guys are willing to visit the app page and try using this really amazing app.

Thanks for sharing the app. Does it allow you to have multiple vaults with different PINs? Can we sync to Google Drive? TIA!

The app has albums and you can apply a password to each of the albums, so basically an album can be treated as a standalone vault.
There will be a sync to Google Drive and other cloud services in the coming updates!
Great, thanks!
I would *love* it if this was open source. It seems all vaults - entrusted with out most private pictures and documents - require us to blindly trust the publishers not to do anything bad or copy them. Would this be something you would be able to alay by going open source?
Edit: a dark theme would be amazing!
Furthermore, many XDA users are privacy-savvy and going open source would likely get you on f-droid and privacytools.io and their reddit sub, you'd reach so many users this way. Please think abount going open sauce

Thanks for your reply. Is there any way to hide the albums? I usually have 2 or 3 "vaults" independent from each other. For what I understand you can set password for every album, but all of them will be visible on the "front page", correct?

I will be thinking about going open source, I've sent you a private message regarding that!

The albums are shown but without a "front page", if you set a password to the album, the "front page" which is basically the last photo in the album is not visible and users will see a "locked album" icon.

Just started using this after switching from GalleryVault. It's fast, but could do with a few things: unhide to original location, fast select/select all when adding/unhiding, backup/restore

I'm very glad you're using PhotoGuard, thank you for the suggestions!
1. Unhiding to original location: I think it would be a bit problematic. What happens if the user doesn't remember from which album/folder he originally took it from, furthermore, what location do pictures/videos that are taken in the app itself should be exported to?
2. select all - a feature that will be available within the app when selecting items to export/share/delete.
3. backup/restore - The app saves its encrypted data in the external storage. which means that the data is backed up automatically. So when you install the app back, it recgonizes your existing vault with the data in it.
The next significant feature that will be added to PhotoGuard is a private encrypted cloud that will be available to users using their Google Drive account.

Ive been using GalleryVault for a very long time now, which one do you prefer more?
How is the encryption on this App, would anyone be able to like "hack" my Pictures on there? I'm just curious because I found nothing about that in GalleryVault and it seems interesting if this App can do that better

I still prefer GalleryVault, but I'm midful of it being close source and their sync option is pushed heavily. I do not want my stuff in the cloud.
I'm not sure on either's encryption, but oyu have to trust something.
This seems fricking great, im currently using eds to protect my videos and photos, have you tough about this app protect videos as well? Thanks man really nice app
How about a mirror for those of us who don't use Google services??
Nice!, I was looking for an on the fly camera with encryption, I was using SafeCamera for a long time.
- When rotate the phone during a video play, it starts the decryption again I think.
- Pictures and videos won't keep the normal view as taken in another camera, I mean the pic keeps "sideway", so If I rotate the phone the pic rotate again
- Any plan to create a tool for PC as SafeCamera has?
Thanks again, great job!
Would you add a private browser /incognito.?
-please *no* browser, keep it a gallery
-new look&feel...I can't see any difference
-app feels fast, but a dark theme would be nice
-please remember where photos are added from so when they're removed/unhidden from the app they can be restored to their original folder AND original file name - app shouldn't touch any file info
-backup/restore would be nice to transfer between devices encrypted.
-break in attempts could be something to look at ie capture front camera image from incorrect pin/fingerprint
-in albums, list & current gallery view would be nice
-viewing an image, text overlay of image number ie 34/300 perhaps
-I'm hugely against a cloud link, but do what you will
re 'What happens if the user doesn't remember from which album/folder he originally took it from, furthermore, what location do pictures/videos that are taken in the app itself should be exported to?'
That's the point, the user doesn't need to remember the original folder, just restore it to the one it came from or give the option to. App-captured images should to to the folder you currently export them to, PhotoGuardPublic.
