[DEV] Kernel SRC - Desire HD Android Development

HTC has a habit of releasing the kernel source in the following manner:
link-codename-kernel_major_version-patch
Since the release patch version of most, if not all handsets sold till now, is g5ed1769, the kernel link will be:
http://member.america.htc.com/download/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/ace-2.6.32-g5ed1769.tar.gz
http://dl3.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/ace-2.6.32-g5ed1769.tar.gz
btw, HTC will most probably use the common codename instead of the engineering one (spade), since the ROMs released also bear the "Ace" name.

Thanks ! I am gonna start a tracker on my VBN Server
Btw...the last 2 links dont give a 404 but redirect to homepage....

http://developer.htc.com/ It's up there, just in case you missed it.

Very nice! Will download now..

It's just WebKit source, not kernel.

Oh crap, false alarm

I think your direct link might be the wrong one if that's so... the URL you included was the one for the Tattoo/Click, and I think you meant the Legend one?
(I'm a new user, so I apparently can't include the actual link )
Thanks for the pointer.

Just read the article on HTC releasing source codes for aria kernel...

For us Android noobz...what does suggest/mean?? Smoother bugless ROM cooking? Better and cleaner 2.2 build?
maybe a possible OC? i read several places they needed the kernel to customize it? i'm not sure.

The aria kernel in the stock 2.1 Rom is very old so it may not be that much use to CM-6 Liberty

[Q] With s-off, but without kernel source...

Very curious about this...so we know s-off is coming for sure, whether alpharev or HTC release it first - it's coming, but we don't know when HTC will release the kernel source code. Even though they are required under the GPL guidelines to do so, they still haven't even released the source for the Evo4g (if I remember right). So for roms that require a different kernel, such as MIUI or CM, where does the lack of kernel source code leave us? I would guess that the devs would need to port a kernel from the closest device they have a working kernel for, or compile one from scratch, until they have the actual source to modify? Am I on the right track here? Anyone care to clarify?
Thanks for any info!
No one can add anything here?

can you get the kernel off your own phone if it is radio s-off, like you can for hboot img and the like? if so i think that would be the most viable option.. but that is a dumb notion of going seens as if that was how it was done, it would be widespread and known... so doubting its going to be anything easy like that for kernel source

What were you smoking? The evo4g kernel was released long time ago. A number of versions for different android builds were released in fact.

Ok? I've never had an Evo so I don't follow development on it, regardless, that's far from the point of this thread.

Actually what tsekh501 said is right on key with this thread. It means HTC WILL release the kernel source,,,,in time.
Patience is a virtue.
Apparently you didn't read my op. Everyone knows they will release it in time, because they are required to, but my question was - until it's released, what's the likelihood of seeing CM or MIUI? Would it require a substantial amount of more dev work without the source code?
I'm not being impatient, I just want to how the lack of source code impacts development and asking out of shear curiosity, guess I didn't phrase my question right.

Can't wait to see what the community can cook up with this new information. Should make our roms/kernels even faster than they already are!
Great, but sadly it's probably not source code from 3.3.5 .

How's that coming along? I aquired a Sensation today, and am interested in a similar effort, or a ground-up AOSP. I checked the htcdev site and found multiple kernel tarballs with no clear indication of which one was for my device. I'll have to crack them open and hope there's some info in there. Still unclear on what non-AOSP source outside of the kernel I might need for an AOSP effort. May just pull down the CM source instead...

The G1 Oracle
Some of us decided to start a new thread like Royalknight6190's ROM Bible, because that hasn't been updated since Feb. 2011. However, as demkantor pointed out, the ROM Bible is pretty up to date up until Froyo, so there's not much point just reposting stuff. Therefore, although I have gone down as far as Eclair, I've only added new, relevant ROMs. Please PM me if I have missed out a ROM, this needs to be kept up-to-date

Yeah I wish we had gotten more done with that site, but o well, I guess we were both just too busy.
I was thinking maybe we could make some addition to the xda wiki? Don't know how well that would work but...
Anyway htcdreamon is going to speak with a mod and see if we can clean up this thread, add a spot or two for each of us in the begining and we each be resposible to add info, I'm sure if you want in to it could be done

Oh no, really, doesn't matter at all, I'm trying to get a mod to give demkantor a post under the OP anyway, so we can move stuff around then.
On a general note to everyone, do people want versions of Android in ascending or descending order? i.e. ascending (from cupcake through to Jelly bean) or descending (from Jelly bean down to cupcake)?
I say newest first, as people probably want to see what's newest right away. Also the older stuff is all linked in the rom bible

What d'you mean by "older stuff"? Also, I'll thank you tomorrow because apparently I'm limited to 8 thanks per day.
Looks like I got some left!
the rom bible is realy complete up to early 2011 or so, since then most roms have been froyo and up, actualy the rom bible probably has everything ecliar and older so if we start with the latest people can have the all in one place for roms that have never been listed before. As we get time we can link it all!

OK, stickied this one. Need to get one of the admins to resolve an issue with the second post, copied the first post like normal to make a second one but for some reason the system is swapping them. Edit: Just read the rest of the thread and realized you ended up wanting a different arrangement there, sorry. OK, let me see if I can fix that up and put something by demkantor in the right place. Actually demkantor mentioned a cleanup as well there, so maybe consider what you want and then self report the thread and let us know.

Definitely!
It's hard to find the newest roms, not that there are many anymore. They tend to get buried by posts to old roms.
Maybe starting up that site again would be a good idea?
It'll be a lot more flexible than this :|
If you think so, we have two choices on how to do it:
1. phpbb (authorship will get awkward, since original devs arent around to post their roms)
2. html (will be the most flexible, but also most difficult )
and *sigh*
3. Me and my friend (a php coder) code a web platform for this specific purpose. This is by far the best way, but will take the most time and effort.
I see what you mean, this is proving difficult to make more widely editable. Also sorry for the gaps, I haven't had much time to work on this.
Hey thanks bro for mentioning me!
To clear up some info, the ezgb linaro kernel is built by me for cm9, and is just the ezgb 1.5.3 ics kernel built with linaro. I had further plans for it, but I've had very little free time recently.
The 1.5.3 kernel is built by me from anddisa's git without code changes. His code was just ezterrys latest kernel plus some patches needed on ics. I just compiled and posted.

Ahh thanks for info. The ezgb linaro doesn't boot for me by the way, so I always have to use the normal ezgb 1.5.3 for ICS, which works fine. 2078 radio.

Kernel source release?

HTC might need a gentle reminder about releasing kernel sources, none of the U series have been released yet, they are required for us to support SlimRoms/LineageOS/aosp/caf style ROMs.
I've tweeted at htcdev etc...
Nick.

I didn´t even know HTC never released kernel source for U Ultra etc. I thought they had a good record releasing source code (well, sometimes a bit late but...)
One of my intentions when buying U11 was to create a kernel for the ocean after I took the trip to the Pixel XL and created my first kernel there.

Yes, hopefully next week
I just noticed they added kernel source of u play.
Also a search category for android 7.1 appeared which is still empty. Previously highest was 7.0.
Fingers crossed it's for the 11.
At least TWRP is fully working without it on this device. So I need it less than you kernel/AOSP devs this time around .
I emailed htcdev and asked about all U series kernel source. They said it had been passed on. May just be coincidence though

Heh they snuck that out in the few hours of sleep I had last night! Funny they released Vodafone UK source when they don't seem to be stocking the phone! I've been playing with building using the stock kernel. The biggest problem I'm having is actually restoring my stock backup afterwards. /Data either won't restore or when I do fully wipe it and get it to restore it won't accept my unlock code/pattern/fingerprint anymore.
Setting the phone up from scratch every time you test is a pita!

Is it relevant that there still no US unlocked & sprint variations kernel source?

I expect they will come, but it looks like it's fully interchangeable currently, at least I've been running the europe unlocked boot.img on my EE UK single sim device without issue. I've just built it and it's running also.

Ouch, that sounds bad. I'm not sure when I'll start hacking, my vacation is very close and by then I guess most features might be already done and ported for sense kernels.. tho the new soc may add some pain to the equation of simple patching
