How to re-install the launcher.apk ?? - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

Hi forum.
A quick question...
How do i re-install the defailt launcher ??
I have tried this way:
@adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
@adb push content/Launcher.apk /sdcard/Launcher.apk
@adb shell dd if=/sdcard/Launcher.apk of=/system/app/Launcher.apk
And even thoug the launcher is on the sd card after (as i not clean after install), and also it all looked like it was installed ok, it don´t work.
When i try to install it from my sdcard with astro, i get a error saying:
"Start could not be installed on this phone"
Pleace, do you know why ??

What did it say, it should say if it was pushed or failed?

Because some system apks have to be pushed and wont install in the usual fashion.

hi
you must set the permissions, sytem apps need it
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
chmod 644 /system/app/Launcher.apk
reboot
or you navigate with rootexplorer to system, mount it rw, navigate to sytem/app/Launcher.apk set the permissions to 644 (User-rw,Group-r,Others-r)
then reboot
sry for bad english, hope it worked

Hi there...
I can´t figure this out...
I can see with "OI file explorer" that have the Launcher.apk inside /system/app.
It looks like it all goes well with mount and chmod above, but i can´t use the launcher?
And inside Titanium Backup it looks like the launcher "start" is not even installed on the phone...
What am i missing here ??

It makes me think that you have also removed Launcher.odex from /system/app . Do you have Launcher.odex in system/app ?

Post a screen shot of the cmd window, it should hint at what your doing, or not doing correctly.

Hmm have you set the permission, have you install homeswitcher, with this you can switch the launcher you have installed and set as default.

Read-Only Filesystem?

Hello, all!
I'm trying edit a file in /etc/ and adb says 'Failed to copy: Read-only filesystem'
Now, is this actually true? Or is this simply a permissions issue? I'm doing this on a non-rooted phone, so I can't 'touch' anything without permission errors, but is it a futile task if the filesystem is read only anyway?
I'm trying to do this from a non-rooted environment as I had intended on making this into an application, but I imagine that if I can't touch or push these files from an adb shell then I won't be able to from the application space either.
It's frustrating not to be able to edit the filesystem of my own phone, I'll be rooting if this is just a permissions problem and not an issue of a non-writable filesystem. Perhaps I could still make an application for rooted-only phones.. hrm..
Any thoughts on this?
/etc is an alias for /system/etc, and /system is a partition mounted as ro (you can confirm this yourself by running mount)
Ah, bugger. So this is hopeless (without modifying and then reflashing)?
Thanks very much.
you need to mount it read write,
mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
then it will be read/write
try adb remount. if it failes you need root sorry.
Hello, i have the same error and I have root. i have tried adb remount and the mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
still dotn work. I want to move a script to /
so i only have to type sh debian.sh
nvm I figured it out. i just put it on system and then just type sh debian.sh on the terminal and it works

it says sh: cant open aw.sh
so i still have to put the path or cd to where the file is. Is there a way to make /system my home?
no you cant make system your home, system is system, home is home. you can make a symlink if you are familiar with linux - might want to read up about shell commands

You *CAN'T* modify the / filesystem. It is part of your BOOT partition, which CANNOT be remounted rw. You would have to read, modify, and write the boot partition.

Maybe you're typing it in too literally. It should actually read like this:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
There was a typo with -oremount, there should be a space after -o.
Hope that helps.
PS. That command worked for me on a device where everything else failed.

I would recommended not posting in the g1 section. The Asus forums would be a lot more helpful.

Download EStrong File Manager and within the settings of it, enable mounting of the system as read/write.
Or, download Terminal Emulator and type this in:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Or, try typing this in terminal/cmd:
Code:
adb remount
Or, if you plan on doing it all from recovery you could do:
Code:
adb shell "mount system"
and then you could do it all from there.
Next time, please post in the proper forum.
Read-Only /system... i just deleted the file, tich push should update/replace and then it worked... only had this bug when i was trying to modify Trebuchet.apk (homescreen)
Hi guys
Not being a linux expert, i'm stuck with the following problem..
i'm using a program who uses low level adb commands to write on the phone extSdCard...
problem: this extSdcard is seen as a readonly filesystem.
What has to be done to make this FS RW instaed of RO ?
This does not happen under windows where I can write to the extSd without problems
thks in advance for the tip

Go to Market and search for SU file manager or check out http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-protocol-su-fbs-jmwq.aspx
It's not free, but it's cheap, and has pretty much replaced all the file explorer/editor/utility-type apps I used to screw around with. For all intents and purposes, you can use it to do just about anything you'd otherwise need adb to do.

TypeFresh good to go on 2.1?

As the title states, is TypeFresh good to go on rooted 2.1 on an X10i? The huge fonts are killing me
It wouldn't reboot for me so I've just used RootExplorer instead.
It worked fine for me, both apps (Typefresh and Andexplorer) where installed from the market.

Thanks for all the links my friend.
I always use this method to change my fonts:
1. I pick the font I want and I copy the regular and bold version on my SD.
2. I rename the regular to DroidSans.ttf and the bold to DroidSans-Bold.ttf.
3. Then, on my phone, using a Terminal application, I type:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
chmod 4755 /system/fonts/DroidSans.ttf
dd if=/sdcard/DroidSans.ttf of=/system/fonts/DroidSans.ttf
chmod 4755 /system/fonts/DroidSans-Bold.ttf
dd if=/sdcard/DroidSans-Bold.ttf of=/system/fonts/DroidSans-Bold.ttf
4. Reboot!
5. Enjoy!!

I used the same method. The first time you run Typefresh you have to give permission, this will cause Typefresh to 'cannot remount sytem' , when you retry it works

[Q] Please help translate some adb instructions into terminal emulator commands

Hi
I have Huawei u8150, Android 2.2, Rooted with z4root.
I want to give widgetsoid access to toggle data using the android apn toggle.
The instructions are:
____
Just put the Widgetsoid apk on /system/app folder
Work only with ADB connected to the phone (doesn't work if you use root explorer or other apps like this) :
* Remount /system as read/write
* adb push Widgetsoid.apk /system/app/Widgetsoid.apk
* Remount /system as read-only
_____
Can someone tell me what I can type in terminal emulator window to achieve this. I can't use adb as it won't recognise my u8150 (It worked fine with my i9000)
Thanks

Thanks
I had tried
$ su
# mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# CHMOD 777 /SYSTEM
the above works but if i try to push i get
# push
push: not found
I also tried the above then switched over to es-file explorer and was able to copy + pasted the widgetsoid.apk file from my sdcard into the /system/app directory. It correctly pasted the file, but when I clicked on widgetsoid.apk to install the apk i got an error.
"Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package."
I wouldn't chmod /system ... just leave the permissions the same.
cp /sdcard/downloads/widgetsoid.apk /system/app/
Chmod 644 /system/app/widgetsoid.apk
No need to click install or anything like that... just reboot after copying it to /system/app.
Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
push is an adb command. You'll want to put the apk on the sdcard then use:
cp /sdcard/Widgetsoid.apk /system/app/
That will copy it to the directory.
Nevermind, do what jeffv2 said.
THANKS! it's working now.
I had placed it in /system/app and did a reboot and it still hadn't installed
then i renamed the file from Widgetsoid2.x.apk to Widgetsoid.apk and also did chmod 644, after a reboot it has successfully installed.
I think it was the chmod 644 to the apk file that allowed it to be installed
Many thanks!

Media Transfer Protocol. Gives you access to your SD Card and phone storage without unmounting them from phone so your SD Card is also available through phone as well as on PC. If you access any file on your phone, it will first copy it to PC and then open it which makes it slower. But its good enough for transferring pics and music and basically MEDIA TRANSFER as the name says..

What are the advantages of deodexing the stock rom?
I came across this thread and it gave me curiosity to find-out the stuff which I wanted to read for long time. Odex and deodex..
The only advantage I came across of deodexing was posibility of theme modifications.
Some thread on XDA and google said that with odex rom (1) boot will be faster.
With deodexing, they said (1) it will take up more data space (2) theoritically deodexing will slow some performance and (3) longer boot times because of big dalvik cache...
Please can you tell me exactly where I am wrong?
