Android Manual - Captivate General

Is there an Android Manual where I can learn basic functionality such as associating pictures with contacts.
JOe K.

It's not that hard. Go into the Contacts app, go to a contact, tap the menu button, hit edit, tap the picture in the top right corner with the plus sign and then I'm sure you can figure it out from there.
Joe, if you spent more time using google, you wouldn't need to post threads with these questions. Explore the phone and teach yourself! They didn't design Android so that it was impossible to figure out.

Speed Dial plugin on today screen

Does anyone know how to get the Voicemail | 1 icon off the today screen?
I want to keep the plugin on the today screen as I use the photo part of it for speed dial, but I want to get the voicemail one off. There was another one that I was able to delete, but it seems that palm wants us to keep the voicemail one on there if we use the speed dial feature. I go to setup and try to delete it, but it says it can not be deleted.
Thanks for the help/hack.
Start>Settings>Today>Items TAB (at bottom)> select speed dial>OPTIONS>select VM icon>MENU>DELETE
That's not what I asked. I know how to delete it completetly, but all i want to do is delete the voice mail icon not the whole speed dial option.

Obviously - you did not know the answer either. I was not trying to be antogonistic by any means. But I thought that the questions was fairly clear in stating that I did not want to delte the entire feature. Just the voicemail icon. And yes, I have researched this quite a bit and I can not find the answer to my question.
Don't wear your feelings on your sleeve man!

Yes you are right. Just change the label & shortcut key on the voicemail button. You can also link a contact with a photo so the ugly button does not show.
thanks for the tip!
Assign the Voicemail button to a contact with a picture. It moves it up to the picture row and gets around the "can't delete voicemail" problem.
awesome!

Unlink Contacts

Sorry If this has been already asked. I searched everywhere and the responses didn't help.
Basically, my father and I have the same name, and my Samsung Captivate swears that we are the same person and decided to link the two contacts together.
I have searched in different forums and the answer is simple:
- Go to the contact
- Click on Menu>edit
- Click on Menu>unlink
However I have looked everywhere for that cute little "unlink" button with no success. I have even called the cops, but they tell me that my little button needs to be missing for at least 48 hours before they start searching.
Could you help me?
I hope this helps
1-open contacts
2- find you or your dads name
3-click on it
4- bottom of the screen should be "linked contacts"
5-click it
6-click on either one of the minus signs.

That worked!!!! Thanks!
It was not at the bottom of the screen but at the middle.
Nice
Glad I could finally help someone, I was even getting ready to take screen shots.

Best answer I could find, and it makes sense:
This isn't possible from an OS level. That share menu is populated by Android based on what apps you've installed declare they can open. You can look at the technical details here, but the end result is that without extra coding from each individual app to filter the results, you are always going to get the full list in whatever order Android returns them in.

Basically in the apps code somewhere it states that it has the ability to use the Share function, so it's automatically added. Without removing the code or removing the app altogether, Android sees the app and adds it. Might be something someone a lot smarter than myself would be able to write an app that manipulates this somehow. But from what I'm seeing it hasn't been done.
thanks man, its ok if just cant be done, everything has limitations...
Would it be possible to have a separate share app that lets you add options (like "SMS to Bob") as well as hide some of the defaults? That app itself could be registered as a "sharing" app (maybe sorting to the top of the list?) or could be launched individually. So a process flow could be to launch this share app, load up the gallery, choose the photo, choose the destination. And that process would be just as convenient as launching the gallery, choosing the photo, selecting to share, and selecting the destination. Same number of steps.

Write on a screenshot

Does anyone know how to quickly write on a screenshot that you've taken? I am simply looking to maybe write some words or circle something on the screen. Can this be done through the gallery?

Have you even read the USER MANUAL?
Use your S-Pen !
It's very simple

Well what I mean is, do you have to import into s-note and then export as a jpg? Or can you just use gallery somehow? I don't want to make a "note" on the back of a pic like the gallery lets you. And I bought my note from a friend, so no manual, plus this is an easy question that a helpful person on here may know.

How, though? I basically want to snap a screen shot, and do quick mark ups with the pen and send the pic by email or something, all without having to import to an editor and save, export, etc.

RTFM!!
If you read carefully in the USER MANUAL you will know how to use your S-PEN for capturing screen & make annotations.
Take out your S-PEN
Tap+Hold while holding the button of your S-PEN
Wait until annotation/edit mode appear.
Annotate/edit anyway you like
Other way is:
Open Gallery
Select a picture/screenshot
Tap on Menu (upper right - the stripes icon) & choose Edit
Select PS Touch
Annotate/edit anyway you like
It's all on the MANUAL or you can try GOOGLE if you don't have a printed documentation.
PLENTY OF PDF MANUAL OR YOUTUBE HOW TO ON THE NET
SEARCH FIRST! DON'T BE TOO LAZY TO SEARCH!
RTFM!!
BTW,I'm not angry with you....I just encourage people to search first before asking something already explained plenty of times on the Net.
ADDITIONAL NOTE:
To invoke quick note:
Take out your S-PEN
Double Tap+Hold while holding the button of your S-PEN
Wait until quick note window appear
Take any notes you like
Try `Ink over apps` from the Play Store.

Some things in this post are helpful, so thanks for that. Others are pointless. Don't answer if you are going to tell me to read the manual or search myself. I know how to do both of those things and do plenty of them. That is not what XDA is about. You sound like someone I'd call on a Samsung hotline for tech support. The time it may take me to read the manual and all that crap is far more than if someone here already knows, takes 15 seconds to reply, then boom....good community help. I do it all the time in the S3 forum when I'm browsing and simply know an answer for someone. It's called being nice! Plus most advice here is much better than what a stock manual will ever supply because it is experience based. Don't browse the Q and A forum if you get mad by questions.
Anyways, thanks for your attempt.

As I said before that I'm not angry with you.
I only encourage you and any other XDA members to search, not only here but also the NET.
Because many tutorials or How-tos are already out there.
And actually someone here was already mentioned about this.
Screenshot annotation app
And try type this on google: screenshot annotate "samsung galaxy note 10.1" -2014
that's why one of the Forum Rule is SEARCH FIRST before creating a new Thread.
I'm glad if I can help,but remember....SEARCH FIRST!

How to copy to clipboard from the Gallery App

I've just switched from iPhone and I must say the android world is a little less intuitive. I cannot find a way to select the image and copy to the clipboard to paste in the email application. Am I missing an option to enable it somehow.
much appreciated. Its the AT&T galaxy s6 edge.
sorry for such a question.
Welcome to the android world.
Android is more intuitive than ios though there is a learning curve to it.
Coming back to your issue, if you want to attach 1 picture then you can click that picture and then click share and select your email app. If you want to send more than 1 picture then long press the picture in the current folder and it will have a checkbox, select all pictures you want then again click share and select your email app. Sharing is one if the biggest feature of Android. You can share information very easily between various apps. Enjoy.

Hemant, Agreed that the sharing is an option, however if I have already composed an email and just want to paste an image form the gallery, there is no option to "Copy to clipboard". That is a big miss. in iOS that just works naturally. Is there a workaround besides sharing.?

A friend showed that he gets the copy menu when he presses the options menu button on the left however on the S6 it beings up the apps list vs the menu that shows copy to keyboard option. Is there a way to add the copy from picture to clipboard?
Just press the "attach" button, that's what its there for. To attach things. A little less "intuitive" means not meant for old people and children lol

You can open up multi-window both the gallery app and email app then simply drag the image from one window to the other.

thanks for the tip. I'll try this out. but I can't believe there isin't a copy to clipboard or a simple copy highlight like the iOS. I'm not trying to point out but there are lots of these nifty things that lack when move to the android platform. I finally landed up with a good email client called Nine. However nine does not do anything besides exchange.
Copy to clipbaord is a big miss. On positives, I do like the wireless charging and the curved display and the integration of whatsapp calling as a regular call vs iOs.

Which email app do you use? Not all apps support copy/paste of images (since this is purely a Samsung Touchwiz function and not an Android one).
Try to force copy/paste: with both multi-windows open click on the middle white circle which opens up the multi-windows options. The second option from left is a force copy/paste (the icon looks like 2 windows, a black one in front of a white one, then a black finger icon at the front). Click that icon then click and drag a image.
See if that works.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm using Nine email. I'll try out the force copy/paste.
I just moved from a moto x gen 1 with 5.0 to galaxy s6 5.1.1.
Copy and pasting images on the internet used to be so easy, now I can not do it to save my life. What am I doing wrong?
Still searching for a way to copy and paste images. There must be a way. Teach me, I'm a sponge.

I just came across this post while looking something else up. However, I know it’s over a year old and it’s actually easy to accomplish this so I am assuming you figured it out. But just in case, if you still want to know how to do this let me know and I will send you back a couple of ways to accomplish this. Also, IMO, Android is way more intuitive. I am typing this on an iPad and using the clipboard (not necessarily adding pics to an email (they’re actually the same on Android or iOS), but using the actual clipboard) on this device I actually think is a pain. I find it much easier on Android. So if you still need help, please post back. I’m sorry I didn’t notice this sooner. Take care.
it is not possible to copy images to the clipboard using a Samsung phone. This seems like a huge miss because it is. i used to hate Apple, but this one feature is enough... never again will i purchase an android device.
