Take your battery and your sim out, wait a few seconds.
Close odin and open it again, plug your phone to the usb while pressing volume down+volume up+power button, DON"T RELEASE IT
Your phone will wake up, hold the buttons - your screen will go off and after that on, don't release the buttons yet!
After the second time your screen went off, release the power button but keep
holding volume down+up.
You should see your phone entering download mode.
BTW, in order to avoid odin from getting stuck, wait 20 seconds at least before
flashing, it helped me a lot.
Good luck.
i did what you said but after i opened the odin, it didnt recognize the phone.
i took out the usb and put it back again but the odin got stuck again in the same problem.

Hi,
Try to wait 20-60 seconds before pressing the flash button after reconnecting
the cable, if odin get stuck try again, it should work sooner or later.
let me know if you managed to fix it after you tried a few times, if not,
try downloading odin again, it may got corrupted during the download process.
Let's try to keep writing in English so other members will be able to understand
us as well, or you can send me PM using Hebrew.
Good Luck mate
no problem, English it is...
well, odin started doing something but now the screen is only pink, is it ok?
It shouldn't be pink at all but don't worry, it doesn't seem like a big deal.
Let it finish, if you see it doesn't go anywhere after, let's say 30 minutes (even though it should take 3 minutes max) download the file again,
there's a good change something went wrong during the download, clear
the cache of your browser, download the file from scratch, reboot your pc just in case take the battery out and redo the process.
What are you trying to flash, 2.1 or 2.2?
If it won't work we'll try to use odin 1.3 and flash it manually, maybe even
repartitioning it, don't worry I think your phone is alright
you are very reassuring, thanks!
i will try it soon...
its pink for about 10 minutes...
btw, in odin its in: factoryfs.rfs
and 2.1
should i go for 2.2?

Since I moved to 2.2 I can't look back
There's a flash support, and everything just feels smoother but since it's not official yet, you may want to wait a liitle we should see official froyo soon.
Btw, as we speek, I'm trying to flash celcom's leaked rom, 2.2 for the I-9000, with
the new reoriented kernel, gonna see if it works, didn't have microphone
and speaker last time I tried that with captivate kernel
While you're waiting for the flash to finish (most likely it got stuck again), start downloading odin again, give it a few more tries before trying manually, it should work after a few times.
If it won't work after a few more tried with the new file, start downloading European version of I9000 jm5 and 512 pit with odin 1.0 for start.
it was still stuck
so i started again, but now i get into the download mode and the phone does not get awake...

Reboot your pc, download the file again, take the battery out, when
you'll have the new file try entering download mode exactly as I described before
while odin (the new file) is opened.
This time, start odin as administrator, disable your antivirus, if there's any, there's a chance there's a conflict with something.
i did everything as you told, but its just dont wake
its dont respond
nothing...
just a black screen

I was updating to froyo using the Odin installer and for some reason it stalled. I waited 10 minutes and nothing happened, it was stuck on DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!! aaand being the genius that I am reset the Odin installer and phone...now I get nothing. The phone is completely unresponsive, no ! screen or anything.
Am I screwed?
edit: sorry for posting this in the wrong forum, please move to Q&A if a mod gets a chance.
close EVERYTHING, take everything out of your phone (sim, battery, and sd card.) then put the battery in but DONT TURN IT ON. have your usb cable ready. hold the two volume buttons down, and then plug in your usb cable to the phone (it should be plugged into your comp) WITHOUT PRESSING ANY POWER BUTTONS. if you get back into downloader mode, you are fine and can then restore using odin or the i click restore
hmmm, well try this take out the battery sim card and ex sd if u got one, open odin, put the battery back in and plug the usb in while holdin the volume buttons, aka download mode... sometimes it doesnt work the first time just try it a couple more...
I did this with my phone. If nothing comes on screen when you plug in the USB cable and entering recovery and download mode don't work, then take thye phone back to AT&T, they accepted my bricked phone back. Just act dumb like you have no clue why it's broken.
I have a similar issue, however I can still get into the downloader..but it just hangs when restoring on factoryfs.rfs....
Any suggestions on that?

Are you doing the method where you remove the battery first, hold the volume buttons (without power) and plug into USB? That *SHOULD* get you into download mode- if not, maybe check a different USB port.

Can you clarify? Did you successfully upgrade to froyo or incur and error somewhere in the process. When you say that "nothing happens" what exactly does that mean?
What does ODIN show when you try to upload?

Upgrade to Froyo successfully. Want to go back to 2.1 after using One Click Odin JF6 rom, it never ends. Following on from here, probe with OCD Froyo, eclair, odin and any rom could do to finish flashing. He stays in zImage and shows the status bar.
Any idea I can try?

This may seem elementary but I noticed your tag says your location says Buenos Aires. Are you sure you have a Captivate and not an i9000?

Guys, good news! I recovered the phone and install Froyo. My error was that it came to how to download and then disconnect the USB and reconnected.
Joe K Captivate works perfect in Argentina because it uses the same bands as AT & T, send me a friend who lives in NYC, obviously unlocked.
Thank you all for your concern, I return to live!
I was attempting to ODIN back to stock and it hung. Waited like 20min and got frustrated and pulled the battery. Now I get this screen. Is all hope lost?
I did try searching the forum before posting and all I found was soft brick action.
HELP!!!!
Since I a noob, no pics. The screen has cellphone with and error triangle then a computer. I can link to image in a pm.
So put it back into download mode and use Odin again.
I cannot get DL mode. The three button/battery out mode doesn't work. All I can get is the phone!comp icon.

that isnt a hard brick you can still get into download mode and ODIN usually works from the screen with the triangle/computer. have ODIN open then pull out your battery then try reconnecting

Also want to let you guys know, if you didnt know already, that the usb jigs work on this device.
Please help me. My Infuse 4G doesn't boot. All I see was light on the button. This what happened. I want to go back to stock and use [ODIN][UCKE3] Return to stock (Updated 06/08/11) by gtg465x . I right click on Odin and run as Admin. Odin see my phone on a download mode. I select infuse.pit on PIT, PDA in Pda, and Phone in Phone. then click Start. It got stuck at factory.fs (don't remember the name actual name). It stuck there for so long, maybe like an hour. Then I decide to unplug and pull battery out. close the Odin and redo the step again. This time the status bar went half way and then got stuck again. I left it overnight just to see if it's actually finish and it never did. Just stuck there. Turn the phone on and i only see light on the button. Is my phone dead? I can still able to get to download mode but the phone won't boot.
I done return to stock so many times and was successful. This was the first encounter I had where Odin stuck and never complete it flashing.
Try things like reinstalling the drivers, another pc, another usb cable etc.
Thanks. Will try that and also i will try this [ODIN][UCKD5] Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e) - (Update 06/05/11) since on FAQ #4 seem to be in my case. But if members had other recommendation, please post. thx in advance

Getting stuck on the factory.fs is pretty common here. You might try charging for a bit to see if you can get it to show signs of life. And that link up there^^^(UCKD5 Stock+Root+3e) has worked for me when gtg's didn't. Read the instructions for it carefully as you don't have to check as many boxes. You only need to load the file into the PDA slot. Also if you didn't have the drivers installed your phone wouldn't show up, so that's not your problem (although you could try re-installing them for **** and giggles)...
If THAT doesn't work try Adam's Heimdall one click HERE
If all else fails try a different PC. I had to and it worked like a charm.
Good Luck

I had a similar problem last week I tried on my dads computer, nothing, then went to my computer since my computer had the drivers already on it cuz I used it to put music on my sd card it read it fine and they process went smoothly, so try on a computer that had had it
plugged it in before the problem and if it doesn't find threw phone restart they computer and re put the phone in download mode and try again and keep doing that till it recognizes the phone and it should work then

Some times just trying a different USB port on the same computer will help to. Not sure why but on my laptop the USB port on the right my Captivate did not like for flashing but the one on the left side always worked right.
Thank you all for helping me out. My infuse is now back in business. I use [ODIN][UCKD5] Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e) - (Update 06/05/11) but this one got my phone to always boot in recovery mode no matter what i did. So i decide to try Heimdall One-Click Back-To-Stock UCKJ4 + Easy CWM install [2.3.6] (FOR AT&T USERS) and then flash LinuxBozo's Defuse 1.5 kernel. Successfully flash it . However after using Heimdall One-Click, ODIN did not see my phone when it's in download mode. Besides that, everything went well.

I was trying to root my Galaxy Tab 2 for the first time. The process started, but failed. Now I'm stuck on the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen. The device will turn off and back on, but remains on error screen. Seems to be trapped in download mode (as I can still see the download progress bar). Go Mobile and Odin say the device has connected to PC.
Anyone know of anything to fix this? Should I just revert to stock ROM and try again later?

I cannot boot into download mode. When I turn it off, it simply flashes off for a few secs then goes back to the error screen on its own. Does the same thing when I turn it back on myself. No logo screen. No droid. Nothing.
EDIT: Unplugged device entirely and retried the stock ROM in Odin. Finally worked! Looks like it might be fixed now.

I think my cord might have an issue (or they're just testy in general). I was noticing the battery wasn't fully charging for a while before all this. After the whole brick issue, I plugged it in to charge and it started flashing the "loading charge (empty battery + loading circle)" screen on and off until I unplugged and re-plugged it. I suspect that this is why the rooting failed in the first place.

Try holding down power + volume down for a couple seconds. You should see the phone reboot. When it does, quickly press and hold the home button in addition to the power + volume down to re-enter download mode. Now you should be able to flash back to stock or whatever else.
