I have multiple tilts, and want to make them all the same... is there a way that after I've got one working the way I want it to quickly duplicate/copy everything to another tilt?
I've looked at the kitchen stuff, but need a good walk thru to make heads or tails,,,
I basically am taking someones already cooked ROM, then modifying it and adding the CABS I want, and the config settings I want for the phone. I am also changing start menu layout to my liking.
thanks in advance!

I did a search and can't find an easy answer to this. Anyone have a suggestion?
you can use sprite backup and then do a "upgrade" restore to get most of your stuff on the other tilts. will need to reconfigure email though. please read the help and faq at Sprite's website before you do it.
You want aprogram called SPB Kiosk. I'ts not cheap, but I did some beta testing for them & can probably send you a test copy that's fully functioning. PM me if u want.
why do you need multiple tilts? not to be a smart ass but just dont see the logic. in regard to your question why not install the same rom/radio on each and load your preferred cab files on an sd card and just load them up. its a bit tedious however it shouldnt exactly be brain surgery. plus use pim backup so each phone can have same contacts etc...
Probably b/c like me they are for family &/or business use.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the suggestions so far are to backup the programs and settings but not the ROM. Am I confused?
What you are looking for is something like Sprite Clone (but it aint cheap).

Spb Backup does a complete backup and restore of everything you have installed, all PIM data, and all Register settings, but doesn't install the ROM. I would think you could flash the ROM you want on every other device, and then take the Restore file from the complete unit and run it on every other unit. The Restore file is a self-contained .EXE file, it doesn't need the program to be installed (because the whole point is that it will reinstall everything even if your current program structure is FUBAR)
hello people i am slowly understanding this ppc thing and i get the rom thing but how am i to know what rom to flash for my needs i know some wil say just try them but i dont have time to keep reflashing if anyone wants to help i use my phone for email, video (slingbox, youtube) and music i also like to change up my homescreen often oh and i browse a lot too thanx whom ever helps
Read, I know its repetitive but it is worth it. Or do like me and many others and just follow the steps i.e. hard spl etc... and just start flashing. I must warn you though, it is addicting and can cause relationship problems

I would recommend you flash to dutty's v4 rom. Flashing takes about 10 minutes. After that you start customizing your device by changing registry settings, installing cabs, changing themes, etc... That process usually takes me 1-2 hours depending on how thoroughly I want to customize. There are some backup programs out there to restore all your backed-up settings to the new rom, but I find it sort-of fun to go through and reinstall all that stuff manually. That way I am constantly getting a better idea of exactly what I want on my phone. I made a habit of saving all cab files I download into a "cab" folder on my storage card, so after I flash I can go through the folder and install the cabs from one central location. I would highly recommend flashing roms if you want to get the most out of your phone. It is the best way to learn about windows mobile. A couple of days your first flash/setup, you will feel a strange urge to reflash a new rom and do it all over again, learning more and more each time. Next thing you know, you will be fiending for that new rom update to come out from your favorite chef. My phone, to me, is way more than just a phone. It is my favorite hobby. A healthy hobby. I don't know what I would do without a PDA to come home and mess around with. I just can't express how much I enjoy tinkering with my pocket PC. So flash away my friend! You won't regret it I promise!

Wow I am seriously impressed. This will alleviate the problem with having to re-install every app. This is truly going to be incredible. When is thing going to be released. I'm in a ROM flashing mood, but then again when am I not.

Very good post. I couldn't agree more.
What will be really incredible is if we can get all XDA chefs to adopt UC. Think about it. Just flash any UC compliant rom with your SD card inserted and you're up and running. Automatic CAB installs/XML provisioning will allow you to put everything back exactly as it was without touching your phone.

That would be great but you will have to be the one to sell it!
I tried something like this about a month ago (written with Mort Script) and it was great. The only issue I had was that it would try to re-install all my apps after every boot.
After flashing your ROMs and seeing that you do quality work, I'm sure it's ready to go.
If all the chefs sign on ..... you're kicking the doors wide open for a flashing frenzy ..... Flash and out the door in 17 mins
Hey,
This is my first time flashing and i would like to know what kind of configurations i should write down for my mobile?(networks, addresses?!) as if i would need help i will not be able to get because of the flash.
The language of my phone is in german (and i only speak english)
thx
P.S
Is there a way to automatic backup\restore those confs?
Read the treads in the forum again and again before doing Your first flash:
Use Search-function to Search for more info..
And then read again....
This is the basic Newbie tread for first taime flasher:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
And make sure You have HardSPL installed before.
Definitely be sure to read the Kaiser Wiki and the various stickies regarding CID unlocking and flashing before you attempt anything.
If you are willing to spent 2-3 hours (more like 1 hour if you have good comprehension) reading before acting, you will have no trouble flashing your phone correctly on the first try.
hi,
i did read the faq and wiki,
there was no info about configuration backup (just sms email etc).
i tried to search aswell with no luck.
if someone can direct me somewhere more specific i would appriciate it.
thx
NO? Read the treads again!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895
In The introduction point 6 it reads:
"6. Last chance to synchronize and/or backup files. All files and databases will be deleted after performing the next step!
(Optional: If you want to save your text messages and/or eMails, use a tool like DotFred's PIM Backup.)"
And there is a link to DotFreds PIM Backup Tool if You click the blue text! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
If You don't like this tool use SBP Backup and/or Sprite Backup tool to backup your data. This software will backup Youe SMS, contacts, Emails, task and so. But not everything!
But keep in mind things (textfiles, videos and any other things) You have put on Youe device (not the memory card) will be gone! So Copy them to your PC or other media if not already done!
If Your are using a other languages OS (like I am: Swedish) and You try to flash a WWE (Wide Worls English) base ROM You can NOT restore System Data saved with SBP backup, just the SMS, Contacts, tasks appointments Email etc.
When it comes to settings (MMS or WAP etc) how did You configured them?
Manually or by using the Wizard? If manually then start writing them don't or make screen dumps. Use program like SOTI's Pocket Controller Pro or MyMobiler (freeware) http://www.mtux.com/
So start reading the treads again and again. When You think You know, read again.
I haven't flashed my Kaiser yet. But I'm reading all the treads. Learning from other mistakes. So I'm like You: In the want to flash stage and I'm 99% sure of How to do it (I have flsahed other devices so I not completely a rookie however). But I like to compare all the ROM's, performance and tweaks. What impact does Page Pool have etc.
I'm a cautious General.
thx alot

You can aslo search for carrier specific cab files that will re-load your settings for MMS etc. Just remember to backup any info you think you'll need. Contacts, WAP settings, etc. I know the first time you flash you're being overly protective. That's ok, it'll get easier as you try different ROMs. Good luck!
thx alot guys
i backed up all the screens with informatio with MyMobiler
tomorrow is going to be a long day flashing i hope it will work out properly
thx again
So I have just flashed my device for the first time! It was no big deal if you read before clicking OK.
So I'm now running Dutty's DualTouch v4RTM.
OK I lost some fotos, videos and homemade ringtones wish I had in the device (the ROM), but I can live with that.
Now it has been alot of reinstalling different software which I just to have on my original Swdeish ROM. Not yet finished. But next time I flash another WWE ROM I can use the Systen Data from my backup.
Best of luck!
When I put m2d onto my elfin, I had no problems, except when i go to the weather tab. It simply says "unable to retrieve data for selected city" even though I didnt select one and i cant click on "add location" in the menu.
Any ideas of how I can get around this and actually add a location?

What version of m2d do u use? do u have custom cities added?
Im not sure what version of M2D it is, because it was included in the ROM that I put on. It was THIS ROM.
I have tried with and without custom cities.
As well as the manilla2d.exe that comes with the custom cities fix,
but it crashed whenever I went onto the weather tab ¬_¬ when using the custom fix .exe
Can I assume that you read this ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439399
Yes Ive tried that out.
But im not trying to add a custom place to the list, im just trying to choose a place from the list to begin with.
Cris,
Have you checked out the Rom thread to see if its a rom issue, or pm the chef for advice. Might be worth trying a reflash though.
not being able to use the weather is a small thing, but its annoyed me enough that im giving in. im gonna do a hard reset and then if that doesnt work, ill re-flash.
lol, ok let me know how you got on
Well, Ive done a hard reset as I said I would.
It worked fine.
But then, being the ideot that I am, I mucked it up again
I tried what is on THIS thread, which is a tut on how to add custom locations.
When I tried it out, it said it couldnt download the information for this location, and It also wont let me remove the location, or add another.
If i use the manilla.exe from the thread I linked to, it just closes M2D whenever i open the weather page & just goes to "tap here to start manilla 2D"
Ultimately what I want to know, is where is the information stored that tells M2D which locations are actually being used? If i could edit this, I wouldnt have to hard reset again, or loose the weather function.
Did you just edit the xml file or go the whole hog as per scotchua's thread?
i only edited the xml.
plus, removing my custom location didnt help either.

Ok give me your location, and ill edit the xml file for you. Then you can just use t.c as usual to overwrite. Is the weather with normal cities working now at the moment?
well, i have got it working, as of about 5am this morning.
and ive also found that the settings of what locations are to be user are in the registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>software>htc>manilla2d>weather:
then its goes into folders counting up in numbers for the different locations you use :3
Nice one Cris, give urself a pat on the back
*pats self on back*
*slaps self round the face*
now, whenever i go onto the messaging tab, M2D freezes and I have to soft reset my elf ¬_¬
WILL THERE EVER BE A TIME WHEN MY PHONE WORKS ENTIRELY??
:'(
lol man thats heavy, have you altered anyhting else at all, any manila files? play with the reg? Have you posted anything in that particular rom section?
sadly the ROMs creator doesnt reply much, and everyone else simply comments on things they want from the creator ¬_¬
and the only things ive changed is add a custom location to the weather, chance the location of a couple of images on the home tab (the clock basically) ive edited which tabs are enabled or disabled..
plus ive played about with the image files :/
ive edited some of them, or used files from other themes and copied them across to the windows directory using total commander, because manilla 2d customizer never works on my phone, no matter what rom im using (another problem :/ )
but yeh, when i searched for any issues other people have had with the messages tab crashing, the only thing i read about was someone who had trouble copying the files. and ive had an error at one point.
(i have re-coppied my haxord image files across withe no problem since mind)
so yeh, im a bit lost as to what it could be
mmm werid man... i hate saying it, but you considered flashing a different rom? Kinda defeatist (which is why i hate sayin it) but i cant understand what your doing wrong (if anything)
thing is, i dont really look through my texts that much, so having it disabled isnt a big loss. I might remove the email tab too, as thats prety much unused too.
it just would have been nice for it to work
plus, its so satisfying scrolling across when you have more tabs :3
also, i must add that im not gonna change this ROM for AGES :O
its the quickest ROM i have ever used, and ive used plenty
plus, i had been trying to create a theme and then i randomly came across this ROM and saw in the screenshots, the exact image of what i wanted my theme to be like, so stopped making the theme and downloaded the rom.
now my phone is made of sexy

got a 6.5.3 tp2 with about 50 additional programs runnin off the card. figured I'd clean up the fone's registry..using SK Tolls Lite. sooo, 6 at a time (since the lite version only lets u delete that many at a time), I deleted everything the cleaner would find...thinking the registry backup would save me if there was aproblem.
well... delete delete delete..optimize, reboot..and presto... no more programs in on the start page....and restoring from the backup didn't help. ugh
luckily, i can satill easily access all my faves thru Quick Menu (an AWESOME app btw...does sooo much..closes activesync, makes the "x" a tru app closer, a great way to quickly switch apps..etc.., but I digress). the problem is there's NOTHING on the start page and i no matter what I try, I can't get the standard Settings app bundle...system and personal.. to work.
if anyone has any ideas that could help me avoid a full hard reset, lemme know. dont feel like setting up this fone and al lmy emails, settings, programs, etc..all over again...but i mayhave deleted wayyyy more stuff than i should have so i might have to thanks in advance.
sorry probably not what you want to hear but find a good backup program and hard reset will most likely cure your issue
yeah...want looking forward to it, but was def the best solution to clear it all up. got to reorganize it better too while i was at it so not the worst thing.. thanks anyway!
