[Q] Samsung Fascinate - help with deodexing/loading custom rom - General Questions and Answers

I am rooted. I was attempting to deodex my Samsung Fascinate. I downloaded the .zip to my sdcard, booted into cwm recovery, made a nandroid backup, selected to install the .zip file from my sdcard and then it starts and freezes,
my screen shows:
Clockwork Mod Recovery v2.5.1.0
-- Installing: SDCARD: /DI01_Deodex_CW.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
*the progress bar at the bottom doesnt move at all*
i end up having to do a battery pull to reboot my phone. I had the same problem trying to load custom roms on my DX too. If anyone could help that would be awesome. Thanks

[Q] Need help after rooting

i rooted using exploit v 2.3.0 with superuser.apk and it worked on my epic since i see superuser. the problem i have is that when i download rom manager and install clockworkmod 2.5.1.0 from rom manager for my epic. then i proceed to backup current rom, i give it a name and then reboots my phone to factory recovery and this is what i see:
android system recovery <2e>
samsung recovery utils
-for BML-
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data cache
wipe cache partition
install from package...
finding update package
opening update package
verifying update package
E:failed to verify whole file signature
E:signature verification failed
insstallation aborted
can anyone help me backup so I can download new roms afterwards.
Clockwork didn't install bro. Try using the run last.bat, that one works when not rooted, I had issues when already rooted sometimes. You could also try selecting apply update.zip, I think flashing recovery in rom manager puts an update.zip on your sd which opens cockwork recovery when applied from stock rec

where can I find the run.bat file? I have looked in the clockworkmod folder on the sdcard, not there tho.
selecting apply update.zip also does the exact same thing

have you mounted /system? and instead of "reinstall packages" you want to select "install zip from sdcard". at least, that's how i did it flashing bionix. it may vary if you're attempting to flash something else, that's the only ROM i've flashed via CWM.
i dont have that option and i tried to use the install rom from the rom manager and i tried doing it by using the final cwm that krylon posted and it still results in the same thing. but i dont have the choice of mount/system or install zip from sdcard on the recovery screen
it definitely doesn't work via ROM manager. more info in this post/thread: http://bit.ly/l3grhw

rom manager is your problem for sure 100%
thank you i thought i had pushed the recovery file to the system/bin but i hadn't but once i did that it started and flashed it no problem
How did you push the recovery file into the /system/bin cause everytime i try it keeps giving me an error message that says cant paste because its a read only file

While in file manager hit the menu button to switch to r/w which means read/write. That will allow you to cut/paste where you need.

[Q] Installing CWM Recovery (and CyanogenMod) via Odin/ROM Manager not working?

I'm quite new to all of this flashing stuff-- sorry if I sound like a complete newbie.
So I'm trying to get CyanogenMod on my Samsung Mesmerize (Galaxy S), though to no avail. I tried to follow the guide on the wiki located at http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide though it's not working. I can't even get CWM Recovery on it.
To get CWM Recovery, I'm following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734166 -- it says flash back to a stock kernel first, which I did via Odin and by following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881064 (I downloaded the "EC10 Full Froyo Restore Package"... not sure what the difference is between that one and EE19 but it seems to work.)
I'll go over my steps from the beginning, starting from when I'm flashing back the stock kernel on my phone:
Flash back stock kernel (EC10 Full Froyo Restore Package) using Odin (I've also tried flashing the EE19 one)
It starts up after this, however it briefly displays "FOTA wipe failed" in red and "wipe_data failed" in yellow (along with some other stuff too, but no other errors - when I use EE19 these errors occur as well)
It starts up into the default Android system recovery - I choose reboot system now
Root my phone using SuperOneClick ('yes' to install Busybox prompt)
Insert SD card, Download & install ROM Manager from the Market (following this guide which I linked up above)
Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" (Current/Latest Recovery: ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2)
Select "Galaxy S i9000"
Superuser prompt appears, I click accept
ROM Manager freezes for a bit, then displays "Successfully downloaded ClockworkMod recovery!"
Choose "Backup Current ROM" - freezes for a bit, then phone begins to restart... enters default Android Recovery mode:
Install from package... Finding/opening/verifying update package...
E:Failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
When I reboot and enter the recovery mode by holding volume-power-home,
it displays "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (No such file or directory)" at the bottom.
Also, when I try to "wipe data/factory reset" in the stock Android recovery mode, it gives this error:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 (No such file or directory)
E:install_application_for_customer:Can't mount HIDDENSDCARD:
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
I also know there's a "Manual Flash Overrride" option in ROM Manager - could I flash CWM Recovery manually and go that route somehow?
My final goal is to get CyanogenMod installed on my Mesmerize, though-- however, I need CWM Recovery to do that. Any ideas as to why CWM Recovery isn't getting installed, and how to fix the mmcblk0p2 error message in recovery mode (and if that's affecting anything)?
Thanks!

Yes, and i will add ROM manager only works for Mesmerize MTD systems, and CM7 IS MTD. SO, technically you need to be on CM7 already to use ROM manager.
You don't need to use ROM Manager period.

You still have the stock recovery installed. You have to flash that zip with a custom recovery. Install TWRP or CWM and give it another go.
got twrp

I got twrp installed it just won't go into boot recovery so do you know the manual button combo for twrp?
Can't seem to get into twrp reboot just goes to stock recovery even on manual
Just a thought... when you flash a stock image you will lose root. Even though the Goomanager looks like it is installing the twrp it wont work without root. Check your root status through Titanium or rootkeeper etc. Sometimes the debug method seems to tell you that you have root when none of the programs are getting root access.
