Anyone know of a compatible headset where the 'next/previous' buttons can control the music player on the i9000?
My nokia TV-out cable works for TV output, so tried my Nokia headset (WH-701) that has music playback controls on it in the hope that works too, but only the call answer button works. I got the stock android lockscreen, so no longer have the touchwiz pull-down music controls on the lockscreen, so it would be handy to be able to change tracks from the earphone wire.
Tried searching for appropriate keywords in the forum but didn't see anything about this.

I've been wondering about this too. The lack of control through the headset is the only thing that is keeping me from selling my iPod.
NOKIA BH-503 work like a charm, it is a wonderful headset with excellent bass, gives you like a surround effect, somtimes i flet like it was 5.1

there are a lot that i can recommend actually, it just depends on your preference and quality.
if you don't care much about Brand names, then there are a lot of good ones for cheap on DX extreme site.
if you want specific brand names they go for a lot for the good ones.
other things to consider are portability, longevity of the battery, sound quality, capable of answering the phone or not, etc

with MixZing player u can use the included galaxy i9000 headset to change music tracks and play/pause.
- one click: play
- another click: pause
- two fast clicks: next song
The built-in Music Player app doesn't respond to the standard Bluetooth AVRCP headset control buttons. Most other music player apps will (I use Cubed).

Could be useful if you already got a fairly expensive set of 'phones and don't feel like spending even more on a Bluetooth headset. Just a $13 bluetooth receiver that you plug your headphones into.
Might order one myself as the lack of buttons is a big reason for me refraining from replacing my MP3 player with my SGS (the others being the sound quality and battery life - I'm curious what the receiver would do to those two as well).
I used MUSIC MOD free from market. Its like Music Player on steroids. Double fast tap on mic button for next track . 1 tap for stop. Most 3rd party music players also support headset buttons. Just not stock player

I have a DXJG4 and run the stock music player with it. All my bluetooth stereo headsets have full avrcp support (play, pause, ff and rew). I use the Nokia BH-503, Philipps SB9000 and recently the Backbeat 906. All buttons work. And during testing a couple more BT headsets, all the buttons work.
However, recently I found out the BT in my phone "forgets" some headsets. And when they attempt to connect, they are either not in the list or connect using the Phone profile only (Media profile is not ticked).

I think I share your reservations about how it would affect the SGS's already not-too impressive audio quality.

Thanks for the advice! I think I might as well upgrade to bluetooth ones seeing as they are generally less hassle with no tangled wires etc! (downside is you need to keep them charged). Had a look at the BH503 but I'd prefer in-ear bud type earphones - hopefully there are bluetooth types somewhere!
I use the Jabra BT3030. Looks like a dogtag, but you can use your own headphones which is awesome, and all the controls work and it has a built in mic for handsfree calling. I have used a few bluetooth stereo headsets and this one is by far my favourite.
I just purchase the DR-BT 101 by sony,
and it works fine on the sgs default music player, as well as video player.
Been using it for 4 days so far, trouble free.
If u leave the bluetooth on your phone on, and close the music player, and press the ''on'' button on the dr-bt101, it will automatically turn on the music player by default, so long as it was the last bluetooth item you paired it with (eg if you were using a pc before this, it will pair with the pc if the pc program you used to pair it on is turned on)
Just a warning if you plan to use it on your pc as well, it has some problems with windows 7 64 bit. I used blue soleil drivers and that settled it.
also works with skype on both SGS and pc
I wouldn't mind posting a small review on the headphones if anyones interested

The standard headset (provided by the Samsung with SGS) is capable of changing music tracks through headset remote controls but for this you need a Power Amp Music Player which is available on Android Market.
Here is function which you can use with your regular Samsung provided standard headset
1 press: pause
2 press: next song
3 press: previous song
Why is everyone saying you need a special app to do these controls. The double click method works with the basic music player.

I believe the eariler posts were when the Galaxy S was in the 2.1 Eclair days. Now with the advent of 2.2 Froyo and 2.2.1 it seems Samsung have added this functionality only recently in the new firmwares.

Does anyone know of a desire-compatible headphone remote control with a volume control?
I can't believe the one provided doesn't have one!
well since the headphones plug into a 3.5mm jack that takes no data, unlike the G1's proprietry extUSB, its actually impossible. Or impractical if you want. It would need t plug into the usb and the 3.5mm jack at the same time.
edit: define remote control. remote control as in changing songs or remote control as in just changing the volume with a slider?

Imagine the OEM remote control (skip tracks, play / pause) with the addition of a volume slider.
I personally disagree with alex101uk's comment. After all, the iPhone has a perfectly usable remote to do track skipping, volume control, play/pause and call control, all of that with a single 3.5mm jack, that as far as I can tell is exactly the same connector as the one on the original HTC remote.
So, I really don't understand:
1) Why the iPhone headsets cannot be used with HTC's phones. Surely it should have been possible to not invent yet another way of doing remote control
2) Why nobody wrote an application for Android that would make it possible to use Apple headsets (there are quite a few of those accessories available)
In the meantime, yeahdisk, you should try the Headset Volume Control app which allows the next/prev buttons on the original HTC remote to be used for volume control with a long click. It works well with the original music app and the HTC's own. I wish it did continuous volume control, but I guess it's better than nothing...
Could you point us in the direction of the volume control app please?

Found it. I was looking on AppBrain, but it turned up on the regular Market.

Just hold the button in for as long as you like until the volume reaches the required level.
$3 well spent in my view.

actually im using iphone 1 and 2 generation version handset which has only on answer/cut button. i can skip/pause/play actions when it plays music via Meridian music player.

im using 2nd generation iphone handset which there is no volume buttons on it. could you find some functions to work on the volume buttons?
Hi, I'm sorry to open an old thread but there are many unresolved things here that I really can use.
For example that Android app to make remotes from different brands work.
With remote i meant being able to change the volume, skip track, play/pause and make/end call.
Certain fruit-brand headsets are causing the most trouble. Yes, yes those damn iPhone and Ipod headset remotes.
I don't think it should be that hard to make an app that can read a signal from any remote, save/register it, gives you an option to bind it to a certain function.
Btw does anyone know Fibretronic? Check it out on Fibretronic.com.
I've modified my snowboard jacket to have a remote on the sleeve connected to the BTM module.
I was thinking of using the IPLX module, but since those are " Made for Ipod ", they have the incorrect functions on my HTC Desire HD. -> volume buttons not working, next/preventie track = call/end call last dialled person, play/pause does work.

I agree, am very curious why the Apple headphones control don't work with Android...they both use 4 conductor 3.5mm jacks correct? Even if it a slight hardware difference [i.e. resistance values] then an app could convert the Apple controls signals from the headset into Android system commands and push them to the phone/music player...right?
This could be a huuuuuuge feature if someone were to crack this problem...
This is something i have been interested in since i got my desire.
Before my desire i had the nokia N95 8GB and the inline headset control was awesome. Skip tracks forward and back, volume up and down, play/pause and stop and answer/hang up. The best part was the fact it had a 3.5mm connector on the end so you can use your own prefered headphones. They currently dont work with the desire. If someone could make a hack or app to allow this to work they would be fricken awesome.

Not quite...
First, iPhone-compatible accessories use a different pinout (there are two industry standards for TRRS 3.5mm jacks and it turns out that HTC and iPhone use different ones)
Second, different resistance values are not something that could be easily handled by the software because translation of resistance values into commands happens in a piece of hardware - so, specific resistance values are, thus, "hardcoded" in the chip.

You could of course try cutting off the stock 3.5mm jack on the remote control and soldering another one with the right pin-out, but even then it's not guaranteed the way the Nokia remote control uses to transmit the commands would be compatible with HTC hardware.

I still have my original HTC earphones that came with the HTC Desire. Took it out once to try it but found it too uncomfortable and promptly put it away.
In case people are still looking for this, try using the app calles Jays Headset Control.
Simple and easy to use and then it allows to use 1 button to control a lot.

I recently bought Sony Ericsson MW600 BT headset and I've been using it for about a day. I can tell you that the sound quality quite good (using my Sennheiser earphones) for a stereo BT headset although audiophiles may disagree
Pairing was child's play.
The good thing about this BT set is that it has a cool OLED screen which displays the song title and also the incoming caller name.
I did not expect it to show caller names though. Thought it was compatible only with Ericsson phones
In all, this BT headset does its job well for my daily commute to office (40 KMS each day)
I will update the battery life of this headset after i use it for a week
Just my thoughts.

How does it works with playing music does the play/pause controls works as it should?
I have had problems with other bt headsets and player controls.
It works very well with the default Sense player and works with Core Player and S2P too. But when you use Core player or S2P it does not scroll the song title on the OLED screen.
I did not try with other players though. Hope this helps

whenever i pick call using bluetooth , it doesnt work.. the sound comes to nil , and then i have to set it back , i use custom rom cooked room from here only

PS: Only thing thats annoying me is the lack of keylock. Because it´s hard to move it when using the "snap-holder", without pushing any button. There are buttons on all sides except the back...

I little bit late, but... Do a reset of your headset and re-sync it with your phone.
To reset the headset:
1 Make sure the headset is turned off.
2 Press and hold down the power key until the pairing indication appears.
3 Simultaneously press and hold down the power key and the call key until the headset turns off.

I use these earbuds on my captivate -
JBuds J3M Micro Atomic In-Ear Earphones with Microphone (look on amazon or other places to buy...)
They sound great and allow me to stop/ff songs on my captivate with the PowerAmp music player.
Other music players work a little differently but still support pause/FF songs from the switch on the wire, which is a huge benefit and time saver.

Im using my Samsung headphones from my Windows phone I traded,
and I all I am able to use is the headphone button underneath the volume control which allows me to make a call to the last entry when I double click it, and when i hold it, it brings up the voice dialer. I swear the other day, I was able to go to the next and previous songs when i hit the volume controls up or down. But now that doesn't seem to be working. The volume buttons never seemed to work with the phone, so I guess its just depends what headphones you have.

My default headset remote buttons have stopped working. I have a Samsung headset. But it has got only one button for play pause functionality. When used with default music player, I can't change the tracks with double or triple presses like most conventional headsets do. I know I can use other music players like PowerAmp but I don't want that. Can anyone tell me how can I set it so that it works for track changes while playing music with default music player?

go on play store and download jays headset control app, it works on other headphone brands. i've got a pair of jays one's and a sennheiser pair and both work perfectly. you can customise what the button does, etc, you'll see, it's very intuitive.
I keep looking everywhere and failed. Does anyone know of one that can play/pause, increase/decrease volume and forward music tracks similar to the iPhone ones?

tbh im using them only to music (poweramp, which plays music automatically whenever i connect headset and stops when they are disconnected), but i used that app earlier, it turns an app whenever something is plugged in (headset, usb charger etc.), sound is quite ok, however it's too quiet comparing to my pc's headset (creative fatal1ty, i know that it's not the same, but...)

So basically this 'magic' they call, is a simply app trigger when headset is connected?
Not a special key that you press and say out loud the name of the app you want to load..?

I have been using the SBH50 for a few weeks and it works great. Listening to FM-Radio battery lasted about 10 hours. Pairs with NFC, charges via micro usb and the device has built in microphone so you can change earbuds. I am using Bose SIE2 with the SBH50.
that sounds amazing (pun not intended). however it is a bit too over-kill for me and i kinda have too many devices that need charging already. so i guess there is no simple 3.5mm pair of earbuds that have playback control?
Planning to get the SBH50 myself, currently using the ones that come with the Xperia Z, it kinda does half of what you need anyway, single tap on button = Play/Pause, Double tap = Play next track.
