Meizu M9 - General Topics

Hello guys,
So I've search the forums and there were no threads about the upcoming Meizu M9, just one or two posts, so I decided to create one...
So despite Meizu halting production of M8 because of Apple, they're preparing us a new unbelievable phone - Meizu M9. And it's running Android!
According to j.mp/cPO92J there are going to be two versions of the phone. One is M9 with 960x640 3.5" display and the other with 1024x640 4" display. Other specs are probably the same: 1GHz Samsung processor, 512MB of RAM and ROM, 5 MP camera, HDMI out.
But the real shocker is the price. Expected price of M9 is... 350$ !. Cheaper than most of Android phones, MUCH MUCH cheaper than the iPhone!
So what do you guys think?
I personally am going for this over the HTC Desire which I'm planning to buy if only someone roots M9. (Hey XDA staff, is there a possibility we would have a forum for M9?)

Well, at least according to reviews, Meizu M8 was much much better than typical chinese iPhone clones costing ~100$.

I still have a Meizu M6 SP mp4 player I bought 3 years ago. It cost less than 120€ at the time, and it still beats in sound quality most mp3/mp4 players out there. So yes, you'll probably get a great device, mass produced (their main target is the Chinese market) without paying for the brand. Since I saw they are doing a android release, with such nice specs and low price, I just can't wait for the final device.

Well, you'll get a reworked UI (they did a very impressive job on Win CE 5 or 6, whatever the latest version is). The music player seems better than the stock Android one, though that's not exactly hard to achieve. You'll get a 1 GHz Cortex A8, IIRC Samsungs' version of the A4. Same resolution as the iPhone 4. So the specs are great, sound quality should be too judging by their previous devices. I was certainly impressed by an early version of the M8, the built quality was pretty good (no Legend or i4, but certainly good enough), the M6 is a great little MP3/MP4 player that I still use all the time).
Big problem will be importing the device and the question when it will actually be available... Meizu has a reputation for pushing back release date after release date (end of December they say, I doubt it).

hi all,
was just browsing the xda forums to see if anyone started an M9 subforum or anything... as far as i know, the good people at meizume.com are working away at the rooting problem, but they can do with some help from the might of the xda developers community... so, if any of u guys own an m9 or can help in any way, please head on down to the meizume.com M9 modding/rooting forum to check it out. any help will be greatly appreciated!

I also have a couple M6 DAPs and find their SQ to be among the best there is. The build quality is on par with Zunes and Sandisks. I was going to get a Focus, but if this Meizu pans out for $350, count me in.

Can you post some pics and your experience with it? I visited China in April (study trip) and nearly went to Meizu store to buy one.. In MeizuMe forums people are getting forward with rooting the device. Some have managed to get temporary root access with something similar to JTAG, but it's too complicated for daily use and especially normal people.

where can we buy it?

Jiayu G2 - Dual SIM, 1GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 4.0-inch IPS screen, ICS

Hi! I just ordered the Chinese smartphone Jiayu G2 from an online store. It is dual SIM, 1 GHZ MT6575 CPU, 1 GB RAM, 4 GB ROM, 4.0 IPS screen, dual cameras with 8.0 megapixel rear camera, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Look at the full specs here: http://www.chinaphonereview.com/jiayu-g2
I bought the phone because it has good specs and the price is only $169.99. I'm still waiting for it to be shipped though. I would like to know your opinions about this phone and if there are people who have tried this phone already. It would be nice to have some type of support for the Jiayu G2 in this forum.
Chinese phone usually aren't supported in this forum just because of the fact that most people here by brand name products. It looks like a great device based on specs. Give us your thoughts when you get it.

who knows, maybe it will be a good phone to start the experience with android, but here in italy you can take with 199 euros the excellent somy xperia u, that's a dual core android phone, that it's supposed to be followed by community.
i think that your won't be supported here, but with android you can do thousands things.
i hope you will enjoy your phone.
Sounds like a killer phone to me.

I received this phone from China last week, I am using it to run a business app, all is well, good screen and great to have more memory than on some other phones.
Testing Wifi printing, again no problems, only issue I have is with the Bluetooth and sending large data packets.
Another point I am not using this as a phone so can't comment on that.
But overall I am very impressed with the quality and service provided.

By the way, is your phone's firmware updated? There's an update for Jiayu G2's firmware at their official website www.ejiayu.com dated May 24, 2012. But you need to translate their website from Chinese to English with Google Translate.

Huawei is a more established Chinese brand, so it is much more expensive than the other Chinese phones. But I think Jiayu has a lot of potential reaching the international market because it has its own factory with a research and development department. It also has its own website with support for its products.
phone look nice, but better get a well established phone brand for better after sales service

Hello,
In the about phone tab I have this
Android Version is 4.0.3
Kernel Version : 3.0.13
I just checked the search for updates and it said there was one from 27th June.
When you say firmware is that the same as the kernal version ?

I'm not really sure. I think firmware and kernel are different things. Can someone help us here?
Did you update your phone already? Has your Kernel Version changed?
kernel and firmware are two different thing.
kernel is core component of the operating system (Android) that does the communication with the hardware.

I disagree. Jiayu G2 looks more like Galaxy SII. Meizu M9 costs around $260 from the link that you provided. It's $100 dollars more expensive than Jiayu G2. That's a big difference and Jiayu G2 has much better specs. So Jiayu G2 is clearly worth buying.
I just received my Jiayu G2 today. My initial impression of it is very good. The navigation is very smooth, no lags. The IPS screen is clear even when viewing at angles or at direct sunlight. Tried WiFi connection and it browses the internet fast. The camera is better than I expected it to be. Images captured were clear. The phone is certainly worth it. I'm loving my new phone already.

Huawei Ascend P1 - What do you think?

Hi
Looking for mye first android phone, cause waiting for Tizen turned out to being a big waste
Don't want the biggest screen, nor the most expensive phone. But this one looks pretty mint:

There are no threads regarding this phone on the forum yet, which kind of scares me. If no one is going go get it, there might be no custom roms etc.
Anyone tried it yet? The specs looks descent.Good phone for the money, or just a cheap alternative?
Cheers

I also like it.
But for this price (about 400 EUR) I would 100% prefer to buy a GS2 (now it's possible to find it even <400 EUR) which has similar specs and great support by XDA community.
IMHO, Huawei should drop the price to 300 EUR if they really want to sell units, at least in the European market.

Yeah, think I will get GS2 too.
One more thing is that the Huawei "support" seems very poor. Decentralization information. Hard to get in touch with their support people. Ex. I still have got no answear on whether P1 will get Jelly Bean or not (asked through mail). And I believe no one else but themselves know the answear of that question at this moment. Which leads to one more reason not to buy it.
It has potential, but I have to say that Huawei as a phone producing brand, don't seem very legit. I know they are big worldwide, producing lots of stuff used buy operators etc. But thats it. Seems like they don't spend to much energy (or lets say money) satisfying their customers, and building their brand.

Looks neat.
Not bad at all.
Great phone by looking at pics/specs. BUT!
In the UK at least, it is priced similar to the HTC One S in not a bit higher. These two devices appear to be very similarly spec'd. with the Ascend P1 being a bit shorter/narrower and, perhaps, visually more appealing (that's subjective, of course)
From what I've read - I understand, the P1 DOES have a microSDHC slot for memory expansion - the HTC One S does not.
Yet Ascend P1 doesn't even have its own forum yet and it's been out for a few months now. The One S is very well supported by developers on the other hand.
Bottom line - unless Huawei drop the price significantly - i.e HTC One S goes for GBP 260-280 (Euro 300-320 ?) on ebay right now - and the P1 should be with at least a 50 euro discount to that - Huawei are not going to sell a lot of these, which in turn, means less developer attention, etc...

Looking to get a Chinese phone import ideas?

HI, a friend of mine picked up the Newman N1 and I was very impressed with the price / quality ratio shown by the phone.
Im going to order one myself soon and I wondered if anyone on here can reccomend any android phone of a similar quality or even better? for the same price region.
Also looking for something that is quite widely supported i.e easy to root and flash.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

As for the Roms and stuff very few ha e support here if any. This is due to many reasons but mostly as china devices are not always honest on hardware and don't follow gpl laws

Look for Xiaomi or Huawei devices.

Can they be good deals on a hardware level ? Yes.
But are you going to get good support even on popular models ? Nope. For this reason I would personally never buy one. What's development, ability to use a warranty, et cetera "worth" to you ?
I would only recommend one as a second phone to play around with or if you want to leave it stock completely and are absolutely sure it will work on your network of choice.
whith Xiaomi you will get the best SW-support you can imagine - each week a new firmware !!
Xiaomi == MIUI !!!
lol
i would suggest you get an Mt6577 based phone, or wait till the quad core mediatek one is out. I prefer the jiayu G3, nice look, good quality and a decent price. I cant tell you what device you should buy, an huawei would be good for custom roms, the Mediatek based devices are great, but can also be rubbish. you should check what device you like and then check the quality.

[Verge] HTC One mini coming in August with 4.3-inch screen, LTE, and 'no compromises'

Vlad Slavov said:
Responding to the call for smaller flagship-caliber smartphones, HTC is today introducing the One mini, a 4.3-inch version of its leading Android handset, the One. The physical design and onboard software remain unchanged, however HTC is aiming to price the One mini "two price points below the HTC One" and making a few downgrades en route to that goal.
Among the tradeoffs you'll have to make with the One mini is a step down to a 1.4GHz dual-core processor (Snapdragon 400), 1GB of RAM, 16GB of non-expandable storage, and the loss of NFC and optical image stabilization for the camera. The One's IR blaster is also gone, however none of these alterations amount to a materially different user experience when the One mini is in your hands. HTC has cut corners, but done so intelligently enough to deliver "exactly the same experience" as on the company's current Android flagship. The premise is that the compromises are only technical, not practical.

Hopefully this means we get Sense 5 updates ported from the One Mini in a relatively short timeframe!
We're getting Sense 5 official sometime this year anyway.
Plus we have MagioRom now.
Plus that looks like it might be a hard phone to port from. Different chipset, smaller display, lack of nfc.
Sent from my Evita
Has HTC said 2013 for Sense 5 on our device? I haven't read anything to corroborate that, but maybe I missed the press release or something.
The One has a different chipset, too, but Sense 5 made its way to us from it. The smaller display on the Mini is the same resolution as the One X, which would make getting visual resources easier (none of the resizing issues), I think.

Guide needed! Please take a look!

Hello my name is Frederik. I'm 16 years old nearly 17 and i'm from Denmark.
I love using phones, and getting a new one atm i'm using a huawei ascend p6.
What i need help with is, i always thought it would be amazing to make reviews and unboxing of phones (Don't believe me? When i buy a new phone/console/pc i talk to my self like i am recording a video of an unboxing) Yeah i'm that crazy.
What do you guys think i should do? There is also the problem phones in my country ain't cheap. And i don't have a lot of money.
It's not like i don't know anything about phones. I have been using a nokia lumia 620, iphone, and 4 different android phones. My iphone was jailbreaked, and my android phones have always been rooted, and custom rom. On my samsung galaxy s2 i have been using ubuntu touch and many jelly bean roms. And i have tryed cmw recovery and twrp recovery. I know how to flash kernels use ADB, how to change the build.prob. I hope this kinda "paints" a picture that i know a lot about phones.

Get your camera, grab something you love to talk about and do a couple of test runs. The moment you start to care what others think it's down hill. Good luck.
Reviews can be anything to do with advice, its not that big of a deal if the phone has a few scratches here and there.
Do game reviews, rom reviews. Literally any review to do with tech. Do tests, watch other reviewers to get a similar idea.
I myself tend to watch reviews all the time, weather it be a TV or a phone. It gets my attention.
Hope you get far with this, and also if youre having financial issues, don't worry too much about that. Grab your camera and do what you can do.
If you do become very successful with this, companies will contact you. Ship you a new device and they'll get you to review it.
That's how most of the reviewers get viewers.
