I have no android market on my phone and No one wants to help me get it on my mobile iam tottaly depressed and disappointed for buying such expensive mobile with no android market , i can't access samsung apps either, neither android market , i need serious help i want to pimp my mobile :S:S:S:S any one is willing to help me please go ahead and leave a reply , thanks in advance
Find your phone in the forum, find a post for a custom rom or check for a cyanogenmod rom (try cyanogenmod.com) and look for the gapps zip file. Unzip it, find the market app, put it on your sdcard and install it. Simple as that.
not really experienced
As iam a new user to Android/smartphones i have no idea about what is ROM :$ :$
when i search the forums for ROM , i find froyo and some related stuff, tho i have no idea to install it.
any further assistance would be really nice
You could start by telling us some information.
Device, carrier, your location (country), and where you got device since it doesn't have market already on it.
good day.
@ chopper thank u for replying , well
i Live in Egypt , i bought the unlocked version of samsung galaxy S , probably it's an middle east version but it looks exactly like the europian with the googleTM on the back and Samsung logo
first of all. i use Vodafone network
2nd. about the phone
Model Number GT-i9000
Frimware Version 2.1-update1
basband version: I9000JXJG2
Kernal version: 2.6.29 ( [email protected]#2)
Build Number : ECLAIR JPJG8
what else do you need me to do ?
NOTE: the Galaxy S is not yet officially released here , i guess maybe they flashed my mobile with an middle east Rom to support arabic ( which is not really important to me )
First get "Astro" (file manager) on your device. And a killer thread is HERE. You can copy apk's to card and install with astro. Good luck.
good day.
i will do it right now , but does this means i will be able to download / install / use the android market ?
Just stumbled upon this thread HERE. Looks like what you need. Get to know the XDA search function and there is a i9000 specific forum as well.
good day.
i will install it tomorrow and let you know of the results , Good night
Thanks and have a good day
stay tuned

Hi guys i'm nes on this forum, i'm italian and i have a samsung captivate i897, i also take this opportunity to introduce myself...
Now i expose you the problem:
i have a i897 captivate marked AT&T for this i have a problem to fix the GPS and to install applications outside the market, I would like you to help me to make clean OS from the applications AT & T and put in i897 a i9000 ROM not rooted...please guys help me, and thanks in advance
1. Read the new owners guide.
2. This forum is about learning things by yourself. Don't expect to be spoonfed.
3. Custom ROM always =Rooted mind you.

I read the guide but i'm desperate,do you recommend something? can u post the link of the better rom and kernel that i can use? im noob in android world
I can't recommend anything man. Everything is good.
You have to discover by yourself what suits your needs.

the new user guide (that i wrote) teaches about stickies! and where to find them!
find the stickies in the captivate general, q&a and dev forums they have all the answers you are looking for and way more.
go. read. learn.
this is really basic stuff. At&t does not like you installing apps not from the market "its called side loading" you need to be rooted to fix it and there are pleanty of guides "one click root has an option to enable non market apps" to get a different rom go to the dev sectoin chose a rom and follow the simple directions or for a guide for the entire process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Assuming what you meant was that you want ATT's crap taken off and a new ROM...
Why would you not want your device rooted? If voiding your warranty is a concern it's fine, there are plenty of methods to return back to stock Eclair/Froyo. And there really isn't a ROM out there that's head and shoulders over the rest, you're going to have to play around and see which one you like the feel of the best. Try out a different ROM every couple of days and see how you like it.

If you are asking someone to help you build a rom well... I don't think that will happen. You can go to samfirmwares.com and download a stock i9000 rom, but without root you, and if you don't know how to build to incorporate the home button and haptic feedback fixes, your phone won't work right. My suggestion is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
They are all stock i9000 roms with only busybox and root installed. I'm using the stock jvh on my captivate, at the moment, and it works great. You will have to deal with root. It's better to be rooted anyway.

U wont need to use kies. Any update released by Samsung will b atleast 1-2 months late than the ones in this forum. And neways, once u load custom rom, kies wont recognise ur fone. Don't worry v all hate kies,u really don't need it in the least bit.

Only replying to that small part of your post, and correcting you by saying no, you don't need to be rooted to sideload applications. SWM (Sideload Wonder Machine) can do it so long as you have the drivers installed and USB Debugging on. I installed several applications as soon as I got the phone, long before I ever rooted my phone, much less installed a custom ROM on it.

Why didn't you use google? There are plenty of places that explain how to root that aren't on this site, which is more an "advanced" place anyways(I use that term loosely, but I get the idea that people here assume you know a little about your phone).
Check out MobileTechVideos, the guy who does those had a three-part, in-depth ROM flash set of videos that explain exactly how to use One-Click to Root.
Edit:
Christ dude, use some decent punctuation and at least attempt to be succinct in your requests. Freaking out isn't going to get you anywhere.

Hi im currently:
- New to Android Phones
- New to xda-developers forums
- Having issues with my x10 mini pro (u20i)
Basically the problem im encountering is that google services from the region where my phone was purchased It was in CHINA.
Phone Problems?:
- Can't watch youtube videos since its affiliated with google.
- But can access youtube website though
- No Android Market
- No worries because there are alternatives though
Phone Specifications:
Name: Se X10 mini pro (u20i)
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Information: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404006
Kernel Version: 2.6.29

Now where do i begin basically?
What do i need to know?
Hey huwaw69,
I think there is no way around rooting and flashing another ROM.
Please follow these Instructions:
Rooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950324
Here you can find a list of ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950324
Good luck,
Greetings,

What do you mean by: I think there is no way around rooting and flashing another ROM.
I Used z4root to Root the phone but the option i choosed was the temporary.
Now what? what is gonna happen? how am i gonna acecss something?
Hey huwaw69,
now you can install ROM Manager and ClockworkMod to flash a new ROM
good luck,
greetings,
KanocX
Hey huwaw69
I didn't have that problem, but it looks like you have the same model of phone that I have. I bought my phone second hand, and it had a few troubles with it's configuration which I manages to sort our by doing a factory reset and sifting through all the settings for both my phone and for my network.
However, the best thing I've done so far for my phone (and my sanity) was to install a custom rom on my phone (just like KanocX suggested). Before you do anything though, BACK UP YOUR SYSTEM... i.e.all your contacts and messages and such (which you can do with a free app like Titanium Backup... but if you can't access Android Market, I'm not sure how you can get it).
Just so you know, I'm no expert with the current generation of phones, but after some careful reading on this forum in the x10 Mini Pro Q & A section, all in all after a coupla hours my phone was better than ever, and bug/crash/freeze free.
Again, I'm no expert, but installing a custom rom I'd say is the way to go

Thanks a lot for the encouragement hehehe im just a little scared to try a custom ROM though but we'll see.
Anyway what ROM are you using? or what ROM can you suggest?
hi, as i got not enough posts to be able to ask questions in the development forums i got to post this question here.. i am using a samsung galaxy s2 by the way..
previously was using checkrom v6 so i decided to try out ics roms.. i flashed neat rom but after a few days i decided to flash back to checkrom.. so i restored my nandroid backup but i noticed that my baseband version didnt change.. it is still LPS.. i wanna check if it is because of the baseband version thus disallowing me to update some gapps from the play store.. the error displayed was 'application requires newer sdk version'..
any help? thanks!!
hi.. anyone help? do i flash my baseband to others or i clear google play cache??
Did you hack your device ? , like tricking Android Market into believing that your apps are compatible with your phone when it's actually not . Because if you did , then that's a bad matter . I believe that if you have a back up , flash that backup and reinstall the Google Apps . That works for me ;
After installing the google apps , if you still want the apps which are incompatible to be compatible , I would suggest you to look at darkguy2008's thread . Yes! you will need your brain and your finger for this one . His thread is very precise and accurate , so , there shouldn't be any problem unless you thought it wrongly . Although that i don't think it is wise to do this , however , good luck to you .
thanks for the link.. shall give it a read..
I have bought a UMi X1 from china, am in UK and using giffgaff sim... being playing with the phone since yesterday .. managed to get the internet working by putting giffgaff APN manually, tried to install custom ROM, but all in Chinese, even after you change the language there are still things left in Chinese, so i went back and installed the original ROM phone had. changed the language... phone is quite good, i like the screen and speed is very good as well.
managed to install other apps like Google map, chrome, Skype, and some game.. all work good, but when ever i install them some Chinese permission thing comes up, which i don't understand, but i think i keep clicking green tick and it works
I managed to root it using "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460" tried super user and it works (not sure what benefit i get from rooting, sorry am a noob)
I followed instruction for custom roms from "http://www.gizchina.com/2012/10/28/download-install-umi-x1-custom-rom/", still all Chinese.
if any one have a question regarding this phone usage or any other information they required am willing to answer from my experience of this phone.
I would like to know if any one would be willing to develop a clean miui English ROM or jelly bean for this device? or any one willing to help me to develop a ROM ( would need alot of help as i don't know single thing about developing, but keen to learn).

looks like no one is intrested....
how to get some one attention on this?

there's also rom link on shuame.com but i don't know wether it's also had english language or not , there's also a custom rom for x1 at lewaos.com
I have received my Umi x1,love it but having real trouble flashing the Umi rom, still cant give up.Hoping others will buy phone with more intelligence than me and post, fingers crossed.
I used this method to ROOT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
I tried about all the ROMs from Shaume.com
Without keeping track of procedure.. did a lot of flashing and factory reset
I don't know any chinese, so i just pressed buttons with icons I thought would do the job (with the risk of doing something wrong and brick the phone)
There are a few mods wit CWM, so once that one is installed flashing is pretty straightforward.
I'm having trouble to get a GPS fix (the Netherlands).
After trying many different gps.conf files (/etc/gps.conf) and different apps (GPS Status, GPS Test, GPSFix), Manually download EPO files..
Result: 1 time GPS fix with GPS fix.. but thats it
Anyone a bit more luck with the GPS fix?
Something that might be handy:
Boot into recovery: turn off phone first -> hold volume up and then power on phone. release both when UMI logo shows.
Engeneer Mode: "call" *#*#3646633#*#*

Also, I suggest OP to change the title of this thread to '[discussion] UMI X1' or something like that. Thanks.

Hi,
With the program "Debloater" deleted all google services from my phone, and a lot more.
So I can not start a "recovery mopus" because the services are deleted.
From the archos support you can find or get no answer:
I must and would like another Android version to flashen the phone, since the 5.1 android version is infected with a virus.
I need the full help to a different android version to play / new firmware or synonymous flash.
How do I do it, and what do I need it for?
Archos support gives very little information how to do that. The phone is new and too bad to throw it into the garbage. Especially since I'm not rich and I can not buy a new phone.
Please for your help and thanks for their effort

It depends on if the stock firmware for your device has been made available to the public, to find if it is available, do a Google search for:
"Return to stock (your model number)"
If that doesn't find anything then your firmware isn't available and you'll have a hard time finding anything. You'll have to put something together from similar devices and modify it to work on yours, if you aren't a developer with extensive knowledge then chances are you won't be able achieve this.
