Samsung Transform - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

The Samsung Transform has the same vulnerability as the Epic (joeykrim-root.sh works to get root).

So how would I go about rooting? Would I use the same process as the EPIC 4g?

if you're good with linux, you can follow the directions in this link forum.sdx-developers.com/epic-development/adb-root-exploit-test
(The mount command is slightly different in step 4.)

I'm running a mac. I tried several guides on the sph-m910 rooting for mac osx but it won't let me push any files to the phone with adb.

Have any of you successfully rooted it using this method?

I have successfully rooted my brother's Transform using the same method I used to root my Epic 4G... same files and everything.

From what I am told and understand it must be mounted and run in linux. I will find out as soon as my local store gets one in, I'm first in line.

I don't mean to be a ****, but what app have you installed that requires root access? I have a specific one, roam manager, that will not run. I believe you may have seen visually that it was rooting it, but it does not do squat.

Rooting Help
Can someone give some detailed instructions on rooting the Samsung Transform???
I agree with cachorropedorro, I'm looking to root for wifi teathering also..... Tried a few methods also.... No luck.

Guys, I've never rooted a phone before and this is my first android. I looked a the Joeyconway version of root.... I'm having a hard time following the command prompts??? Any suggestions?

Is there going to be a transform category? Are there other pages about rooting this new phone??

I was able to root my transform using the ocr joey krimm root method, the drivers for the epic finally worked after restarting the phone, one thing i noticed about the transform was that the ratc script takes longer to work and does not always work. I modified the bat file to have a longer wait after running the ratc file, however that doesnt even work all the time, if you manually run the ratc script and then run the bat it should work thats what i had to do. I also updated the su bin and the busybox version from the current version of the one click root because the files in the ocr.zip have an older su bin that doesnt use superuser.apk and the busybox is not compatible with ti backup.

Mark920,
Can you give some more detailed directions for all of us that are newbees? Like I said in a earlier post, I've never rooted a phone so some of the things you were talking about like ratc script confuses me. Any detailed steps would be awsome.

One Click Root & Recovery for the Epic 4G! v2.5.5 Now has ClockworkMod Redirector!
Here's a new one click root. 2.4.0 now flashes clockworkmod recovery for you. It's also a little less likely to fail, and is tested to work on Froyo.
It will also work correctly if you are on a pre-rooted kernel. It will install superuser, busybox, and clockworkmod.
http://firon.net/xda/one.click.root.exploitv2.5.5.zip
Here's 2.5.0 of the one click root, now with the clockwork redirector integrated.
I cleaned up noobnl's script a little bit and ensured that adbd would run as root when booted into recovery. Also made sure we symlinked every single applet that recovery's busybox provides.
Now the one click also avoids pushing playlogo unless it detects that you have the old joeykrim root installed, to avoid any potential issues with future froyo releases.
Linux and Mac users users chmod +x run.sh and run it
THANKS FIRON
Here's 2.2.7, that simplifies the root process thanks to the discoveries here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800483
I also increased the timeout after running the root (fails less), moved more things to /system/xbin to reduce the risk of breaking things, and removes all the old files leftover from joeykrim's root (including his modified playlogo that runs at boot every time).
It also means your system will no longer be mounted as read-only every time you reboot and there's no more problems with jk-su overwriting your existing su binary.
1. you need samsung galaxy s drivers
32-bit drivers: http://firon.net/xda/Samsung_Mobile_Driver_V1.3.800_For_SPH-d700_Epic_4G.zip
64-bit drivers: http://firon.net/xda/usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
2. push MENU, select Applications > Development, then enable USB debugging.
3. extract and run run.bat
4. enjoy!
v2.2.4 added busybox and the remount script and fixes sprint animation not showing
2.2.5 superuser.apk & su added!

Working on Windows XP....
A) Installed the 32 bit drivers (strange that when I plug the phone into the USB cord the computer doesn't ever seem to acknowledge that I did so as it did with my BB?)
B) Tried to run the RUN and RUN 2 but I keep getting messages that no device is detected.
Obviously I'm missing something somewhere???????

perm root my 4g

I'm trying to perm root my mytouch 4g using Visionary
I have android 2.2.1 and have successfully temp rooted using Visionary
I download the root folder from HERE
I put them in the root of the SD card and open up Terminal Emulator and type in
su
cd /sdcard/root
sh root.sh
when I type the first line (su) I get the # and am told that Terminal Emulator has been granted superuser permissions.
when I type in the second line (cd /sdcard/root) I get this message
cd: can't cd to /sdcard/root
What could be causing this?
Thanks
Jonathan
The "cd" command is a "change directory" command, and there is no directory called "root" on your SD card, because either you haven't unzipped what you downloaded, or you unzipped it in the wrong place.
Unzipping what you downloaded creates a directory (or a "folder", if you're a Windows user) called "root" that has several files in it -- a kernel module and a script, if I remember correctly. The script loads the kernel module and makes a call to it in order to set S Off.
thank you much, I think I figured out the problem. I'll try again later and see what happens. I'll post back with the results later. Thanks again!
Jonathan
NOTE: Ok, I can now run through the
su
cd /sdcard/root
sh root.sh
commands but when it's done and I check for s-off I don't have it (I still have s-on)
I've tried this twice to no avail. any advise?
i am having the same problem. i've tried this method about 15 times, mostly with visionary r14, but also a couple times with r11. i have also tried the gfree method a couple times as well via the semi-automated method. no s=off!
i have a new MT4G direct from phone upgrade order. i've read of others who have rooted the MT4G before multiple times, but can't do it now with a new phone. i'm wondering if it's something HTC has changed with the newest releases.....

HTC was going to install a measure that would prevent "rage methods" from working on their phones. How ever, none of the tech blogs are reporting that this has been rolled out. So i doubt that is the case.
make sure the its set up as sdcard/root. If you've just extracted the folder and copied the extraction to the sdcard it's not set properly.

yes, i understand the root folder in the root of the sdcard, and not 2 root folders. (sdcard/root/root)
like i mentioned, i read posts from a couple people on here with the same problems with new mt4g's after having done it multiple times before with success.

nope you would start @ number 1.
you need to download those files and check the MD5SUM of every download load. the files need to be PERFECT for it to work correctly.
and i cannot stress enough. take your time and read directions. Read through the list a few times and make sure you have a good understanding of what you are doing. Doing that wrong can make your phone an expensive paper weight.
instead of pushing stuff to the "SDK tools folder" you store it to the ADB folder TrueBlue had you create in his walkthrough. And make sure to change your target folder to "c:\adb".
and remember you are choosing to do this. so if you screw it up. it's on your shoulders not mine.

The way this phone is made it's going to be pretty difficult to write a "one click s=off" program.
If you are wanting the benefits of being rooted you can always use VISIONary.apk when you need the root features like AD-HOC tethering or Screen Shots.

not really. As soon as you reboot they'll pop right back up.
ok thanks.
Two things.
1. I've decided to put off perm rooting until I can understand adb and use it properly. No need to rush, I've got time.
2. Is it true that given time, effort, and ingenuity there really isn't such a thing as a bricked phone? It can always be recovered, it's just a question of how far you have to go to do it?
I've read around a lot and though I've heard many people talk of bricking their phone, it seems like many say that if you can use things like adb commands you can pretty well fix any issue, it's just difficult.
Like I was saying in point 1, I'm newer to all this and I'm learning so thanks for answering!

At minimum, I believe the phone requires a functioning bootloader in order to be able to connect via USB to fastboot.
Any update on this? I also just got a mytouch 4g yesterday and am trying to root it. Is it possible right now?
Root the mt4g
Friend, I used the adb method here on xda, after I got the forked childs msg, and restart terminal w/e, make sue to pull out battery. Restart, the LAST THING I DID WAS USE VISIONARY r14, to attempt permroot, took me a week before I figured out to try this, the guide said phone would be rooted after terminal commands went through. So, to recap if u entered everything correctly, (my avg protection was telling me my phone was rooted for a week after I pushed gfree using the adb method but had no s-off, tried visionary permroot, BINGO!) THANKS TO ALL THE HARD WORK/GUIDES ON XDA, using ICE GLACIER ROM, titanium backup, rom manager, root explorer, my internet security (ad free web) set cpu, cache cleaner ng, drocap, couldn't get barnacle to work, the tethering on board works fine. Quadrant standard for benchmarking.
My wifes mt4g arrived today, and I had it perm rooted, with s-off in about 20 minutes, following this guide from the wiki:

dude this method is great especially if your a noob or cant use adb for whatever reason just use visionary for temp root and then using root explorer move the gfree file to data>local then open terminal emulator and follow the instructions that gives you s-off and allows you to use visionary to permaroot when you reboot and then rommanager it now supports 3.xx so you can flash gingerroms just be careful and have fun

I need help with roms

I cannot flash roms or kernel. It won't boot recovery!!! I have stock rooted shift. How do I make a custom recovery? And install roms and kernel
Probably the easiest way is to download ROM manager from the market. The first option in the app is flash clockworkmod. Very fast and automagic. Have fun! Happy flashing.
I have that and kernel manager. Flashed it twice after it didn't work the first time. It hangs up on the HTC boot logo after I try to boot recovery
turn off your phone
power it on while holding vol down.
does the first line say S-OFF or S-ON?
S on I didn't do nand
I've tried a few more things. I used visionary to root my phone. Was that the wrong thing? It all works. But I can't flash. Lol

Alright!! Thank you all who have been helping. I have only a few more questions because I'm a little slow ^_^ ok, first. From the emulator I typed Su and gave permission.... now what? I looked for the commands in development and couldn't find. I'm trying to turn s off. I don't care so much about perm or temp root right now as long as I get that annoying s on to be s off. Lmao. I need commands please!!! Assume I have no access to a computer!

Alright I have that, now its not explained there but in order to do that via the terminal do I need to dl the framework and sdk to my phone? I do not have a running computer right now. the commands given in that thread is the exact ones you would need, but since you're using a terminal emulator in your phone, you don't need adb.
do step 1
skip step 2
do step 3,4,5 via your terminal
do step 6
extra points:
once you're perma-rooted, you can go straight to installing Rom Manager, and flash clockworkrom that way.
then reboot your phone to recovery, and do a nandroid backup.
once that's done, you're all set.

When the perm root method was finally developed I was at work with no access to a PC. I ended up rooting via phone terminal just because I couldn't bear to wait a couple hours until I got home.

Could someone explain step 1 and 3 for me if I'm using android terminal emulator. I tried it but nothing happened. My device is temprooted. I download the file into the download folder. I use root explorer to extract it... where?? I tried a couple places even the root folder (Its not in SD card) then once its good how do I check the md5 from the terminal. I type Su to get permission then what? The string in the post doesn't seem to do anything no matter how I type it. Or maybe I just don't know the command. I'm fairly new to this kinda thing. :/
That's awesome. I'm feeling the same way. I don't want to wait for a computer it might be a few weeks I'm impatient now lol

[Q] FileMate Clear 7" T720 tablet

Does anyone know if Z4Root will work on this tablet? Thanks!
I've been looking for one for 3 days now, I tryed onclickroot and z4root or something like that,, cant find anything Anyone please help!!
I'm still waiting for my tablet to be delivered...I'm gonna try SuperOneClick (crosses fingers)
I got one of these for my daughter for xmas. I spent a few days trying to root it with no luck. I'm not intimately familiar with android (some unix experience), but I tried all the options I could find for rooting Allwinner a10 devices. At first I ran into problems with adb unable to recognize the device for most one-click methods. I downloaded the android tools and was able to connect with the included adb. After studying the scripts, they all use the "adb root" command to gain root access on the device and copy the necessary files. Unfortunately, this command fails using adb from the tools. At first I thought this was due to my adb version, but after doing some research I think it is actually due to the device kernel. I believe it requires reflashing or some exploit to be able to gain root. I was able to install root explorer and I can browse all the necessary directories but I can't modify or copy the necessary files into them. Busybox told me there was an older version installed, but wouldn't let me install a newer version (again I think due to the permissions). Also, superuser would say it installed but the su binary did not show up on the bin directory. As the necessary directories are all owned by root, I couldn't figure out a way to modify the permissions...
I wound up returning the FileMate and got a Lenovo IdeaTab. Got that rooted in no time.
sorry i never saw this post i've bought 2 of these and i rooted them,

I laughed so hard. ok your going to have to install drivers by force,
first off do you happen to have android sdk installed? if you don't there is another way but its going to sound weird,
if you do have the android SDK installed:
1. go to your computer manager (by opening explorer, right click on the "computer" group on the left column and select manager)
2. look for any unrecognized item that appears, ( it will most likely be labeled "Clear" with a faded icon and a "?" sign on top
3. right click and choose "Update drivers", it will give you options, choose "Browse my computer for driver software", another option screen will show,
4. at the bottom of the window there will be an option that says "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
5. on the screen that appears there should be an option that says "ADB Interface", choose this
6. choose "Google, Inc.">"ADB Testing Interface version x.x.x.x" (I chose version 2.1.0.0)
that should do it next time you plug in the tablet try running ddms or open the cmd and type in "adb devices" (assuming you have adb installed) and it should show.
if this helps just hit the thanks button
[edit] I am running windows 8 btw [/edit]
ADB interface doesn't show up
Thank you very much for getting me farther, however I dont see ADB interface. I'm looking into it right now. I just re-installed the sdk drivers and will keep at it.
BTW, is it even worth doing this? the main reason I want to do it, is so i can connect my ps3 remote via bluetooth, and possibly a little overclocking. Have you had any luck OC it?

Thank you very much for getting me farther, however I dont see ADB interface. I'm looking into it right now. I just re-installed the sdk drivers and will keep at it.
BTW, is it even worth doing this? the main reason I want to do it, is so i can connect my ps3 remote via bluetooth, and possibly a little overclocking. Have you had any luck OC it?
Thanks again Much appreciated:good:

open up SDK manager and go to Extras>"Google USB Drivers"
also install everything in the "Android 4.0 (API 14)" section, I have other options installed if this still doesn't work.
its worth it just for the extra stuff that root comes with like titanium backup, but you cant over clock, if you go any higher than 1200 MHz it will lock up and you have to force it to reset.

HERE is the link to root as provided earlier
Click Here to download ADB universal drivers. they should work better than the google USB drivers.

Rooted With Kingo
I just bought one of these cheap to play with and used Kingo to root it. Worked first time, no problem. The only issue I am having is that the SuperSu binaries are failing to update but root is still working. Titanium is working and Root Explorer so I can debloat. Hope that helps is anyone is still trying to use these

please tell me where in the world you got the Kingo root?
As far as being unable to update binaries, try to find a custom recovery and install. From there, you can inject them via su-binary update.zip and bam!

http://www.kingoapp.com/android-root.htm
That is the link for the Kingo site. The first time I saw it on here there was some question about whether it was safe becase it is not open source and used a Chinese SuperSu app. I felt safe using it on a tablet because I do no banking on it or anything, but the newest posts I have seen are that Kingo is safe. Hope that helps. And if you know where to find a custom recovery that will work with this app please let me know.

[Q] Batch file won't open

Hi All, new to forums. No one else seems to have had this problem, or am I trying to open it wrong? I try to d-click the batch file runme.bat to get root access but it won't open as the message says it's not supported on LG-Optimus L7II dual running Android 4.1.2. It opens in Win 7 so it proves that the file is OK. Hope I get some info on this, thanks.
Hello,
.bat files are Windows/DOS batch scripts that does not (generally) work on Android.
Most likely you have to run that .bat file on the Windows computer with your phone connected.
Root It Using Exploit

Sorry it took so long to get back and thank you, got busy new years eve and had to check a few things out.
I was trying to root with Rootland app and I mistook the instructions for runme.bat to run on mobile and not
computer. Thanks for putting me right. I will also reply to Cyrus_pc who also has helped.

Thanks heaps Cyrus_pc, Had to use Cydia Impactor a few times to reroot, worked perfectly. It gained root but Root Checker from Jacksoft labs
said no root. So did search on xda forums (can't Remember thread to thank them) and used terminal to type SU and check root(thanks). Also, used Root Checker by joeykrim and that does work.
If I can indulge a bit about other problems with my phone model LG Optimus L7 II Duo P716, this may help others. I first wanted root access to use Titanium Backup and Rom Manager before using LG update to see what was new and roll back if needed. Bad move, Rom Manager wouldn't backup or boot to recovery mode just kept Factory resetting and loosing settings(what a pain).
Fix this from xda thread from Blackzair with (CWM Recovery on LG P&15 L7 II Dual) boothack+recovery.rar to load Gscript.apk. Got into recovery even though as he said screen is upside down.Tried to load a CM 10 but it didn't take, will have to check boot image version.
Thanks again to everyone
