Hello everyone!
So, i never had seriously played with any android phone and its apps. Only had Symbian and WM.
I understand that if I want cooked ROM that i need to root it and that opens all new customizations possible BUT can i without root install all kind of apps, games etc. Does root have any connections with witch app i can and which i cant install? Because I'm fine with stock ROM and customization but need and want to play with many apps. Help!

Ok, i need yes or no!
Without root you can install pretty much anything (whether directly on the phone or through ADB by sideloading), but some apps require you to have root permissions for them to actually run on your phone. Hope that helps.

I just signed up with tmobile and got a Optimus t for free. My last phone was a blackjack 2 so this is a big upgrade for me. I've been reading all the android hacking threads. There was a couple things I couldn't quite figure out.
1. I'll install z4root and root the device. Do I need any other software to remove the pre installed junk from t mobile?
2. I may want to add some roms or change the kernel. What program do I use for backing up my device?

welcome to android you will notice a big difference in software and customizability. but i digress . to awnser your question once rootrd you can remove all those pesky junk apps as i think of them such as kindle and blockbuster my solution was root uninstaller but first you will need superuser permissions one suggestion is to get rom mannager from the market and once installed in the rom manager app run whats called fix permissions should just be just a click away the phone will run script for about five minutes while it frees up the permissions by granting all apps super user permissions then once that has happined you can go into the root uninstaller aplication and get rid of that stock junk (note this is without running custom rom seeing as i encountered the same problem due to i recently got the cliq2 and so far cannot run custom rom as of yet to my knowllege)

I am looking for a Lollipop ROM that doesn't come pre rooted due to some of the Apps that I use and the PITA with the way they check for roots, so root hiders don't work for them. Anyone know if such a ROM exists. From what I can see they all look like they come pre rooted.
Edit: Oh yeah, and I am look for an AOSP rom.

I guess most of the roms are prerooted because (most) people who flash custom roms are using apps that need/use root privileges (e.g. titanium backup or xposed framework + modules). So if the roms are prerooted there is no need to root it manually every time after flashing a new rom. Or in other words prerooted roms mean a reduction of steps/time needed to setup a new rom. And that's probably the reason you won't find any custom rom that isn't prerooted.
But as far as I know root privileges only exist as long as you have installed root apps like SuperSU or SuperUser. Therefore I would suggest you to try uninstalling whatever root app is used by your prefered rom. Since I never faced a problem like yours I can't garantee for anything and it's always recommendable to prepare a backup before you start "messing around".
Did you try to just disable it ?
First you enable the Developer options (Settings -> About phone -> click several times on Build number)
you go in Developer options and it's one of the first options, it's called Root access, by default, it's set to Apps only, you set it to Disabled and no apps will have root access.

so I have already rooted with Magisk 5 times as possible, and have problems with gmail, mobile banking, etc.
actually it doesn't matter if I don't delete the default system applications that are not used with applications like link2sd etc, that request root access. but what is the root for me if it doesn't delete (sorry) the garbage application.
to deal with that problem I only got the trick by reinstalling the stock rom using odin. and not root
and are there other tricks to deal with this problem?
I really need help from you guys.

Hello, I did some research and I think this phone has the best performance in it's price class. The only thing that I'm hesitating with is all the spyware and bloatware MIUI comes with.
There are some guides on the internet that show you how to disable most adds by turning it off in the app settings
Then there are guides that use XiaomiADBFastbootTools.jar, article
Then there are the hardcore users that wait a week, root the phone and install a custom Rom.
I'm a bit concerned with option 3 regarding warranty so that why I'm looking into option 1 and 2.
My question:
What apps are safe to remove?
When the phone updates will those apps return, if so how frequent is this?
Will there still be lingering tracking software?
Any other useful information is most welcome, thank you for taking the time to read!
if you are really concern about ads, you should go with opcion 3 without root. AOSP roms (vanilla or with gapps) work are really stable right now
disabling "MSA" in miui also works great but i prefer custom rom without bloatware

1- if you are really concern about xiaomi following you and your data you should unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and then flash a custom rom (vanilla) with or without root privileges. it's up to you
2- MSA is an app in which xiaomi collect your data, you can use this tutorial to disable it

3- debloating an stock rom is the passive way to block some functions (like ads) but it's, to me, the fastest way to f*ck up your device (if you don't know what are you doing and blind trust a person that post your linked article)
Everything in the default list of Xiaomi ADBFastboot tool is safe to disable/uninstall and doesn't brick your phone. You just need to check what you really need and what not. All stuff disabled/uninstalled with the tool can be reactivated/installed again with the tool, so you don't need to worry too much about it.
I prefer a debloated MIUI over any custom rom, because everything just works and I don't do privacy related stuff (banking and such) anyways.
I really don't care whether the Chinese or the Americans collect my data. If you are looking for a completely spy free OS for your phone, then you would have to use Linux or a completely Google free custom ROM.
Unlock your bootloader first, there's a thread here just look at it
Then if you still prefer MIUI, but don't want to have ads, Root with magisk, then install a tweak to make your system RW, then install any AdBlock apps, like Adaway.
That's it
Or just install a Custom ROM, no ads, no bloatware, and faster performance.

I use root "now only" for
1) call recording (BCR);
2) SwifthBackup;
3) Revanced.
So, call recorder seems to be installed also without root: just put apk in system app directory!
... but, how I can move an apk in system directory without root or twrp, and with locked bootloader?
SwifthBackup can work without root? I don't remember but I can search.
Revanced isn't a problem, I can use with microG.

Without root, Swift Backup can backup app APK files, but not the app data. It does allow you to grant adb permissions through Shizuku, but I never figured out what [if anything] that allows it to do. I wasn't able to backup app data with ADB privelages.
I don't know the answer to the Call Recording issue.

I imagine that, once you move that .apk to the system app directory (while rooted), once you unroot, it should still stay there and probably be accessible; but I'm unsure whether successfully running it will be possible -- it depends on the call recording app and if the app requires root to run. If it doesn't and it simply needs root just to be inserted, then I imagine it would probably work if you unroot.
But I have never heard of this method of getting a mod or add-on to work by inserting it in the system app directory...it's fascinating...
Like you said, ReVanced doesn't necessarily need root to work; it just works better with it. Swift Backup will only in a basic way be able to back your device up without root access.
But if you are simply just trying to get a certain VPN to work -- and in the end you don't want to lose root -- you could try doing the numerous root-hiding methods. There are many games, banking apps, and streaming apps that won't work with root (without even giving you a warning that it's because of root detection sometimes) that, once you hide root successfully, are able to run it. It sounds like that could possibly be the case for your VPN.
There are these you can try (if you haven't yet); Zygisk Deny List, UniversalSafetyNetFix (Displax mod works best with P7P), Shamiko, HideMyApp, Magisk Delta, etc.
Also, please be aware (or reminded if you know already) that while unrooting will not wipe and reset your device, locking your bootloader requires wiping the device and you losing everything! You'll be able to get some stuff restored through Google One Backup/Sync, but most everything will need to be set back up and/or lost. And if all you are seeking is to get a VPN to work, I really highly doubt that the app/service goes so far as to detect if you have an unlocked bootloader; it seems there are some banking apps that go that far, but most apps out there don't go that far, and hearing a VPN does would be a first...
