So I rooted and been running CM7 version 7.0 that had a problem with Facebook till I updated FB. Still having problems with ADW Launcher shutting down and needing to Force close and my Fidelity app not being able to show my accounts (need to force close it as well).
Mainly though is how fast of an UL and DL should be in Honolulu, HI if anyone else is from HI? MY DL speed averages about 320KBPS and Uploads about 270KBPS..
I did read and added the 2nd Access point Name and settings (Medianet), but noticed that even if I select it, it goes back to ATT as the primary APN. As I thought about why it would do this, I figure its because we are on and island and not in the mainland US. We dont have any 4g towers for sure so another reason why the slow speeds.
Any thoughts on this and if there really is a way to get faster UP and DL speeds?
Not from Hawaii so can't help with U/L or D/L speeds but if you are on version 7.0 of CM7 try updating to 7.0.2 or the latest Nightly #57 and see if that fixes your app/fc issues.

New version of FB works with 7.02 now.....still curious if the UP and DL speeds are what I should expect from this ROM since Im in Hawaii..
Probably be a while till ATT puts up 4G towers in Hawaii,..a long while.
As some of you have come from the captivate know what I did there with Rom Q&A threads. I am doing the same here. In an effort to clean up the site. All Rom related question shall from now on be posted in the proper Q&A or will be deleted on sight.
I feel like I'm posting incorrectly here but this thread says CM Q&A so if i am I sincerely apologize but here goes nothing...
I'm running Cyanogenmod 7 RC1. Before i installed CM7 i did a wipe of data and cache.
The google navigation app works for about 2 or 3 minutes then loses gps signal. I have to exit navigation then bring it up again and it will immediately get a gps fix then disconnect after another 2-3 minutes. I have really searched around for a fix and i'm not even sure which one to try.
Below are the threads that i have found that may fix the issue. I don't believe they will since the problem isn't getting a fix which it does. It it just losing the fix after a brief period of time.
If i use MapQuest it works flawlessly. It just really bothers me that i can't get a stock app to work...
Which one is the most viable? If non of the threads below will help can you politely point me in the right direction?

When that occurs to me, pulling down the notification toggles and toggling the gps off then on fixed the issue. the gps stays locked for the rest of the trip

This is how it works for me as well. Just toggle GPS off and back on while still in the navigation app. Should come back up and stay on from that point on.
Thanks for your responses guys...I wish there was another way rather than that. I guess it's a small inconvenience for what is my favorite rom.

Howdy. CM7 Rocks!
I have a question about the dialer. I can't seem to quick search the phonebook using the dialpad. Is this a setting I can enable, or does CM not feature that? Thanks in advance.

I definitely liked this rom but for some reason it seemed to drain my battery more than other roms. Not sure what it was but I will try it out again when they update it

I believe that isn't supported in CM7 but i'm not sure. That seemed to be in the sense based roms if I understand what you're asking

There is a way to quick search the phonebook with the stock CM7 dialer, but there's an extra keystroke involved. While the dialer is up on the screen, just press the search button on the bottom right of your phone. Then you can quick search through your contacts.

I had a issue with mytracks and GPS. It seemed to cut out frequently and when the trip was done it logged me as going almost twice as far due to zig zagging in my track.
Very low data speeds in CM7, what gives?
I'm new to android and to rooting. I understand that CM7 does not support 4G, but I'm not even seeing 3G speeds when I have it installed. My speed test results are averaging in the 0.4 - 0.5 mbps range down, and similar or some times better up.
On ANY other rom I see better speeds. I'd be ok with similar speeds to what I saw on my Iphone 3g, but when I tether right now on CM7 it makes me long for the good ole days of dial up. Seriously, I frequently see sub 56kbps speeds.
I WANT to use CM7. I love all the tweaks and features, but the data is so slow! Any suggestions to how I could fix this and get back to my 1.5 mbps 3G speeds?
Radio: 26.06.06.30
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0018G
Kernel (What ever came with the phone? Ive not changed kernels that I'm aware of)
Thanks,
Tom

Did you make sure the APN's are correct? There is a APN thread in the dev forum.. If you are in 4g area you should see faster speeds than 1.5Mb.. Iam in dallas and see 3.5Mb down 1.1Mb up.. Either way, make sure the APN settings are correct.
By chance has anyone's phone gotten laggy at random or where it'll temporarily hang/freeze in the later builds?
I'm trying to figure out what's goin on w/mine.

Something this severe hasn't happened to me yet. I might see a little sluggishness from time to time, but it doesn't cause the phone to hang or freeze.

+1 on one7dchevy's suggestion. CM7 works with HSPA+ / 4G just as well as any other ROM (I've seen speeds up to 6-7Mb/s), as long as you've got the right APN config. Link to the APN thread is in my sig - be careful though, the OP of that thread is a real jerk.
BTW the radio version you're using is just fine - and the RIL that comes with CM7 works fine with that radio.
Posted this question over in the CM forums but they seem to get alot less traffic than here. Figured I'd give it a shot.
Flashed this device a while back. Now it's randomly losing GSM signal, wifi is fine. When I attempt to scan for a network provider it just errors out.
It's a AT&T device, Inspire 4g
It's running: 7.0.3-DesireHD
baseband: 12.39.60.19P_26.06.04.06_M
RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0099HM (Jan 27 2011, 16:12:49)
Having to swap to and from airplane mode every few hours to maintain signal is getting old. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily handset and I'm missing way to many calls. I've confirmed with my gf's captivate that it's not random network outages.
I even rolled back to an old nandroid backup where this didn't happen and it continues to happen.

hi-
I just installed Octane to my galaxy s 4g after much work, research and reading through these forums. Everything is working phenomenally, I'm running gingerbread, have screaming speeds, and fairly decent 4g data connection (confirmed) and my phone boots faster than I've ever seen it, awesome work.
The problem is that wifi is not working that well. The range is horrible and it will only connect to wireless G routers, and absolutely will not even connect to any N routers, it just simply scans, connects, scans, connects, etc....
I have tried multiple modem files, the default that comes with Octane (which I believe is KI3, I tried KF2, as well as KJ3, all with same results, and will be attempting KD2 next (the one that came stock on the phone, I believe), which I expect the same results as I was running the KJ3 modem prior to moving from stock rom to Octane, with no issues which tells me it's likely a problem with how the new rom handles N networks, but if anybody else here has an idea on how to fix this, I'm all ears.
Like I said, everything else is working just great, so I know the rom installed properly and even got gingerbread working, however is someone doesn't believe me that I actually can follow instructions, the links for the guides I followed are below.
Rooted, installed cwm
backed up my stock rom, settings, etc, twice using cwm (just to make sure) and backed all sd card contents up to computer
attempted install of octane per the forum, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305145
failed due to gingerbread migration issue, fixed per the gingerbread start up guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
and of course for completeness, I did read over/follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122508 where applicable and had a nice look over the bible at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554 and a look over http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979109
and that, I believe encompasses about every useful and up-to-date bit of pertinent information that I could find, and remember using since this adventure has taken quite a bit of time over the last few days.
So, please don't ask any dumb obvious questions like "did you set the mounts properly" or "did you wipe the cache first", because I did, if I didn't the rom wouldn't even be working and I would have a different issue, and please don't flame me if this happened to have been answered 6 months ago on this forum, google and even this forum search can only do so much and I did make every reasonable effort to find an answer first. I may be new to these forums but not to technology...so thanks to all who are able and willing to offer any useful suggestions/advice.
Sorry, but that last part of your post was arrogant as hell. You should consider not putting that there if you want help next time. Most people that could help might just be put off by that.
On topic, wifi is a known issue on ask of the GB ROMs, which is why every leak practically has the question "how's wifi". We're still waiting for a leak with all problems solved.
thank you very much for your reply, that was exactly the type of information I was looking for.
As for sounding arrogant, I apologize and did consider that when writing and tried to make it sound less arrogant, problem is I have had more than my fair share of experience on these forums and I find it tends to waste a ton of time when people don't bother to read my post and ask me obvious questions, or just simply insult me by talking down to me like a kindergartener. Now I understand there's a lot of noobs on here and such, and I apologize for my frustrations in getting responses and any hurt feelings. Unfortunately I don't know any better way of getting across that I'm not an idiot, can use search and google, and can follow directions....
Glad I could help.
However, if you're super dependent on wifi, you should probably go back to Froyo instead. IMO, the speed difference in GB is worth the poor wifi signal (although my wifi doesn't seem to have problems).
That wasn't meant to be anything offensive to you, btw. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Unfortunately, some people here jump at the chance to flame.
yeah, I'll take the speed anyday, having my phone up and ready to go in 2-4 minutes versus the 15-20 it used to take is definitely worth it, and 4g is working well enough I can live with being stuck on 4g at one end of my house...
and yes, people love to flame, on xbox we call them telephone tough guys, all the same though, a hallmark of the internet since the early 90's, man that makes me feel old....
You could also try switching out modems to see which one would give you the best service too.
Pardon my lack of proficiency on the subject but what tools and or apps do you use to test the wifi on our phones? I hardly use it so I really haven't noticed any difference since flashing custom ROMs. I think the only time I connect is to use the Google TV remote app to interact with the TV. I understand testing with different routers for the B/G/N connections I was just curious what tools you use to measure signal strength and throughput?

Nice, thank you sir. Only thing is I don't want to go back to stock or even Froyo to see if there is a difference lol. But with this app at least I can see just what my Wifi is doing.

Probably won't be any difference between modded and stock. Since the rom modders aren't modifying the modem.bin.
But going back to Froyo, you will notice a difference. It is much better there.
Wifi is probably the reason they haven't dropped GB source yet (amongst other stability issues).
[FIXED] wifi on galaxy s 4g fully working WITH gingerbread
IT WORKS, IT'S FIXED!!! WOOT!!!
yes, running gingerbread/octane on galaxy s 4g, have wifi on both N and G networks, secured with wpa/wpa2 psk. Typical setup in any home and it works!! not the strongest signal on the planet but I have access and screaming speeds (4g speeds are off the chain with this new rom compared to stock, better performance probably has everything to do with it)
so, yes, a router reboot and a couple modem file flashes later and viola, everything works.....using gingerbread. Would add a signature to show what I"m using if this site would let me, but for now I'll post it here:
Phone: samsung galaxy s 4g (SGH-T959V)
firmware version: 2.3.5
Baseband version: T959VUVKJ3
modem: KJ3
Kernel version: [email protected] #2
Build: Gingerbread.VUVKI3
Rom: octane v2.0 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305145
hint: if you choose to install the rom, be sure to install the gingerbread startup pack first!
from the above responses having wifi, 4g, and everything else working WITH a new rom and great performance has had an issue, I would like to say at this point everything is working great all around, no issues whatsoever. Total awesomsauce!
This thread is only for people running a Cisco Access point, preferably a Aironet 1200.
I currently have the 3g/4g version, and this behavior seems exist on all ICS builds I've tried.
I started a thread on Motorola's forums here.
I have 35/35 at home, and on pre-ics builds I get about 25/25 on my xoom. With ICS builds however my download is about 400kb-1200mbits. With upload being 25mbits. So it seems to only be on the downlink where the issues exist.
I've tried building it from source, I've tried other roms, everything that is ICS is slow download which makes streaming terrible.
My Nexus S running ICS does not have this issue so it seems something specific to ICS and the XOOM.
Anyone running the same sort of equipment as me, and running into the same problem?
Thanks
I got a Xoom on stock ics, and I have a bunch of aironet 1231g and 1242ag aps at work. I could try some stuff out if I knew what you meant by the 35/35 or 25/25 stuff, I probably wouldn't want to change my xoom that much with roms or anything (I just rebuilt it tonight to see if it fixed some slowness I was seeing after the ota to ics) but could test on stock ics, just tell me how your testing it... if it makes a difference the aps are all light weight aps managed by WLCs. I could probably snag a 1242 ( and maybe a 1231 if I can find a spare one) and dumb it down with autonomous image if that is more how you are rolling, but it might take me a couple of days...

What I mean by 35/35 is thats what my internet is at home. But any speed test will show the issue if it is a cisco issue. You'll see that download is terrible, and upload is normal.
Im still not sure what 35/35 means, i've never seen any metrics for throughput / network performance displayed this way...

35mbits over 35mbits.
I have a symetrical fiber connection that gives me somewhere between 35-45mbit download, and 35-40mbit upload.
We found a solution on the other thread. It appears that the new broadcom drivers are now 802.11 certified and there appears the be a bug that causes 802.11 draft APs achieve data decent data rates.
So here are the 3 fixes.
1. Buy a new AP
2. Disable you're mcs rates and lose 802.11n
3. Pray that motorola fixes it.
I'm currently running with 2. Shopping around with 1. Oh and have no doubt in my mind that 3 is a pipe dream.
Hey all,
Just curious if anyone else is getting atrocious data speeds on CM10.1? My phone shows connected to 4G with no bars of signal (inside my office) and is constantly struggling to download small files like apps from the play store. I have not seen anyone else having this problem in the Dev forum or any fixes recommended. Is it just my building or am I seeing a common problem?
FYI, no big problems on CM10 or TW JB Roms from the exact same location.
I think the ril is incomplete

Last nights update included a few RIL updates. If you haven't upgraded yet to the 12/28 nightly official, i'd say try it (if you want to), I don't have an issue, but my situation is different.
