After waiting all this time for Froyo I assumed that once it had arrived all of my memory issues would vanish. That has not been the case as many (large) apps (e.g. Google Maps) do not offer the option to move. Any idea when developers are going to update their apps to make use of this feature? Thanks
Bit of a silly (well more retarded) question that. There are 1000s of software developers and 100,000s+ apps out there. How is someone going to answer and give development updates on every app and if/when they will support new features..
it is indeed the one major disappointment I have with my Desire, maybe even enough to get the Desire HD
You could temporarily delay memory problems a little more by using SetInstallLocation 2 (search for it on XDA) so you can move apps to SD even if they have not been updated but even that does not help a great deal as a large part of every app and it's data still remain on the internal memory.
Or root and install a custom ROM which gives options to move the complete app to SD, but I've been holding off because I don't want to ruin my excellent experience by continuous amazement of new ROMs, flashing ROMs multiple times a day and waiting for new ROMs as I did with my WiMo phone...

Silly ok, retarded....slightly offensive.... The question was a little open ended as I'm not a Google application developer and I was inviting those who may be in the know to offer a positive contribution based on their area of focus. For example a developer working around Google Maps may know when in the software development program Maps will be able to offer an SD card install because that affects their own development?
To assist further besides Maps at 9.6MB these are other apps I have installed that I would like to see on my SD card:
Adobe Flash Player 10.1 (12.4MB)
ASTRO (file management - 4.2MB)
Facebook (official app - 9.3MB)
Gmail (3.7MB)
Handcent SMS (4.6MB)
Vlingo Voice (4.2MB)
XDA (2MB)
These 8 apps amount to 50MB of internal memory. If anyone is developing around these and knows if SD card installation is coming soon can you post asap as I will contact the developers next week. Thanks.

Good Day Folks.
I'm a Noob in need of help and i'm hoping the more experienced among us might be able to assist. I have an issue with disappearing phone storage. Over the course of a week I realized that I was losing about 1MB a day. My phone would basically be dormant and I would still see my storage space dropping by this amount everyday.
Cache cleaning didn't work. Later I realized that Android creates a bunch of log files in Data/System/Dropbox that was responsible for the disappearing phone storage trick I've been seeing for a while now.
I know now that Google has incorporated into Android as of the 2.2 iteration, a DropBox Manager that's responsible for logging all of the events that take place during the course of a running Android session. Everything from what took place at boot to force close details.
I understand that this is used for debugging purposes but I'm no developer . So my question is.... Can this DropBox Manager be disabled....somehow.
I really don't need all these files (and its A LOT OF THEM) being created as they serve no practical purpose for me. Not sure if anyone else might have noticed this but I'm hoping to receive some help. Even if it means pointing me in the right direction so I can work on it myself.
I really don't have a clue on how to start. Any help will be appreciated....Seriously...
Currently using G1 with CM6 Magpie running on EZTERRY's 2.6.34.7 kernel.
Its perfect except for this annoying problem.......
NB: I've posted this before in the general discussions area but should have posted it here first....Sorry about that....
Hey
The first (Android) smartphone with camera that can really compete with the digital cameras and no section for it?
Modding it would be great
Altek A14 Leo
Altek Leo Section
regarding the serious problems the Altek Leo has, as no google apps, not even market, no rooting published, no adobe flash, firefox will not install and so on,
a section would be useful for the distessed owners of this camera phone which
is more a fumble phone than a smart phone. Its advantages are a very good lens, an outstanding CCD chip, a xenon flash and professional camera software.
True, is buggy
I bought one actually and despite it being pretty buggy, I just absolutely love the camera.
Definitely needs some software love though:
1) Interface is pretty sluggish and 2.1 isn't helping, the latest android performance improvements would be nice.
2) Touch-screen is strangely inaccurate. Swype was a must for me.
3) Battery life is pretty bad (not certain how much a newer Android would help, but any amount of powersaving fixes would help).
4) Buttons/widgets to lock the screen (e.g. Extended Controls) don't work.
5) The camera button doesn't open the camera when the phone is locked (debatable I guess, but imo, the camera button should just open the camera, period).
6) Default alarm clock doesn't ring randomly.
7) Not to mention apps randomly crashing, strange animation bugs in the Album viewer, no google apps, terrible GPS, etc.
But despite those, I've managed to work my way round them and am in love with it.
Alex
I have one of these and I do like the quirkyness .
I would love to improve the experience by modding.
Quirkyness fits well
To continue the list (more than enough for a forum)
- Backups by Titanium, AVG or Nandroid do not work because i have no idea
how to root the Altek Leo.
- WLAN range is still very short and does not always an automatic reconnect.
- I could not manage to make any browser play flash files, but the moboplayer
plays flv files well.
- Apps like soundhound say the microphone is blocked.
About half of the apps i need are not available because they will not install
or they are exclusively available over google market and getting them from
file hosters seems a bit risky to me. Most of this problems seem to be caused
by the small software space of 120 MB for files and 83 MB for running
applications.
But i will keep the Altek Leo and use it because the camera prooved itself
as outstanding among mobile phones.
- I use the application stores Applanet, Amazone Appstore, Handango,
SlideMe SAM and the tools Memory Booster Lite, Android Tweak.
Does anyone discovered any other useful helpers for this half of an
ANDROID device ?
"We do not need any adobe flash, we have got a real xenon flash."
Where To Buy
Does anyone know where to pick up/order one of these units?
Here To Buy
Search at Ebay, you will need a Paypal account.
I bought mine from Wifigadget.
Eason of Yupitek provides International Customer Service,
have a look at the facebook pinwall.
Thanks for the tips! Really like Memory Booster and Swype.
If you're on a mac, the "missing sync" from markspace is well worth the buy - particularly given that there does not seem to be a way to add a Google account under accounts and sync - it's missing on my altek leo! Anyone elses too?
Also recommend "Lookout" if you're worried about virus from no easy way to get apks other than file sharing sites.
Despite the quirks, very happy with this all-in-one device - music player + phone + camera - 3 down to 1! Fantastic!
Vignette
Sidenote, 'Vignette' is the perfect app for this device.
It doesn't fix any of the quirkiness, but it's a photo manipulation tool which complements the fantastic camera perfectly.
You can take your pics and then touch them up making the phone a studio for all things photography.
You can purchase it from the AndAppStore.
By poor battery life, how many days do you get out of it?
root and market
Has anyone tried the Gingerbreak exploit? I heard it might work on older devices. Also, if you don't trust file sharing sites and want stuff from the market. You could try running an emulator and installing the Market on that, then sideloading the APKs. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it seems there are a lot of people doing this. Here's one HOWTO which is specific to Mac but I think it's prety much the same or at least you should be able to use the same system image. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1387830/how-to-install-android-market-app-on-the-emulator there are lots of other links if you google "android market emulator" I don't have the Leo yet because they're sold out in Taiwan, but I've got mine on order. I'm most interested whether the google apps work at all if they're sideloaded. I've just sort of bricked my older Cyanogen device. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Oh, here's a Windows specific link - http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/10004/accessing-android-market-from-android-sdk/
and be careful with Gingerbreak!
There's also UniversalAndRoot to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598
and SuperOneClick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Poor battery-life
@rocky7st
It depends on usage. Light usage is ok. Any sort of medium/heavy usage won't get you through the day.
I bought it from an ebay seller which sent me 2 batteries which was helpful:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230614421067
It's is useful since it allows me to occasionally geek out with the camera, playing with apps or using the GPS (i.e. 2 hours straight) and and it'll completely run out of juice by late afternoon.
I usually wait till I get home to recharge it on those occasions, but it's been very useful to be able to switch to the backup battery if I'm out and about and I really need to use the phone.
@everyone_else
On the topic of side-loading apps, my gf has an Android phone with a market on it, so I use the "Astro" file manager which allows you to "Backup" the apks, and then I transfer them to my phone via email.
I've been unable to get my device to show up with adb, so not far enough to try SuperOneClick.
UniversalAndRoot says something like "unable to root"
Z4Root says "running root exploit" and does not progress..
That's bad news but good to know at the same time. Hopefully there will be a method soon. Still waiting on mine but I unbricked my older one. Seems to be an almost total lack of hands-on reviews (outside of a trade show) so I thought someone might be interested in this one. Also, I emailed the author to see whether and how he installed the Market app.

Cheers for the reply jackflap. Do you guys know anything about the Android 2.2 upgrade, I've heard Altek is meant to be releasing it next month.
Okay, I got SuperOneClick working so I have root. ADB worked in windows after installing the Altek software.
ADB in linux still cannot find the phone..
So I tried installing various vending.apk files but keep getting MISSING SHARED LIBRARY or out of date SDK.
@daktak I've been trying to develop for the Leo but have not been able to get ADB to work in windows. Where did you obtain the Altek software?
Hi All,
I am a complete noob here and non technical.
Recently bought an altek leo with the sole purpose of loading an app called Passport Photo Plus and using the device to create passport photopgraphs and to send by Bluetooth to a compatible printer.
We have been doing this on other android smartphones but wanted to use the altek due to its camera features.
It appears that our desired app is ony avaiable on Market.
Being non -technical we have tried and failed to find a way to install this app on our leo.
I'm sure there may be other apps available but we specifically want this one due to it's features.
Does anybody know if this can be done, and if so how? Can anybody point me in the right direction (in easy to understand non tech terms please!)
Would happily pay a small fee for succesful step by step instructions (not sure if I can post that here, if not please ignore / mods pls delete).
Many thanks in advance.
Not been on the forums or even had time to flash any ROM's for a few weeks but tonight I've got a couple of hours free, so just been looking through ROM Manager and came across Cerberus, I thought it was a new ROM at first so I took a look. Only to find out it's an APP not a ROM (weird really).
I was just wondering if anyone had tried it or know anything about it and does it really deserve a place in ROM Manager when its not even a ROM, even if it the best thing since sliced bread I'd still expect it to be in extras anyway.
Sorry If this has been discussed but like I've said Ive had no time so am a little out of touch
Thanks
Never heard of it before but I found out about it just like you did. From what I can tell it's the same as the marketplace app - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus&hl=en
I will admit I haven't tried either version (ROM manager version or marketplace), but it seems to have decent reviews. I agree though, it seems weird in ROM manager under the normal ROM listing... I expected it to be under Extras too.
UPDATE***
Flashed it through CWM although it can be downloaded from the market as pointed out.
What an amazing piece of kit. you get a weeks free trial but I paid 2.60 or there about.
I can't explain how good it is, if you have ever been concerned about loosing misplacing or having your Nexus slolen, then this most definately for you.
If you buy the full version you can add up to 5 phones.
It enables you to track, wipe take a picture, request call or sms log display a message sound an alarm even record live for up to 5 mins at a time, ether by loging on to there ste online or by sending a text message to your phone.
By far the best security app I've ever seen.
Check it out, its free for a week and if you don't buy it there must be something wrong with you.
And honestly I'm not assosiated with the app or its developers, just know a great app when I see one
https://www.cerberusapp.com/
Hi, I'm Cerberus main developer.
First of all, if you have any questions on Cerberus feel free to ask!
Then, regarding the inclusion in ROM Manager, I'd like to explain how and why it happened.
Cerberus has additional features if you integrate it into the rom. It cannot be uninstalled (I mean, it can only be deleted by flashing a new rom or using adb/terminal emulator, but I don't think a lot of thieves know how to do that), and GPS is automatically enabled when you send a "Start tracking" command. So on the website there is a flashable zip for easy installation in /system/app.
A user, who also maintains the ROM Manager repository, told me if I wanted to publish it there too, so integration into the rom would be even easier. Of course I said "Sure, that'd be great"
Now I don't know if there's a specific category into ROM Manager that is fit for Cerberus or whatever, if someone more expert than me wants to write his opinion I'd like to read it.
P.S. If you installed version 1.9beta, there are some nice new features that you can't see yet in the "official" dashboard. More info here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jmPnjs07y7rs9tdsMEzwUTQtV2ncjsYcVsPUbBtZAXM/edit?hl=en_US
It is the best app i have ever downloaded.
EDIT: Wow I just read all the comments in ROM Manager and I want to punch so many people.
So to expand on what ajejee said above:
Previously, Cerberus could only be installed either as a regular app with the "Device Administrator" permissions like any other security app, and the associated flaws (like not being able to turn on GPS on 2.3.3+), or by downloading a separate APK off the website and running it on your phone, which would copy the APK to the system partition.
Long story short, putting Cerberus in ROM Manager is a way to make it easier for users to install Cerberus to /system, since most competent root users have ClockworkMod Recovery and at least know of ROM Manager. While yes, it is "odd" for an app to be in the ROM listing, it's not the only non-ROM in there. I also have radio images for the HTC EVO 4G listed as well.
In regards to placing it in "Extras": Yes, that's a nice idea, but with the way RM's manifests work, it's not really feasible. The "Extras" isn't a separate category, but just another manifest that was hosted on Koush's GitHub, and was only being used by Superuser. This means that any time Superuser had an update, or Cerberus would have an update, the developers would have to send a pull request to Koush, and someone would have to merge it in.
I say was, because Superuser and Cerberus both now have their own separate manifests (meaning no more Extras link), and show up as "ROMs" in the Download ROM menu. I've talked to Koush about making a separate "Download App" menu, but the problem with that is that the Market's ToS prevent having an app that just downloads other apps.
tl;dr, this is so Cerberus can be protected against factory resets, apps can kinda-sorta go in the Download ROM menu, and ROM Manager can't have a separate Download App menu.
Pretty cool app!!!!!!!!
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Awesome app and there are even way to get it for free !
Well, you translated the app into Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian so you earned a couple free licenses
There are not many languages left to localize Cerberus into: Korean, Finnish, Arabic, Farsi, Indonesian and Thai.
So if anyone wants to help with some of these translations please let us know!

Thanks a lot!
I rooted my LG G2 and I want to install Cerberus in the system, but im new to this, i didnt understand the instructions at their website. Can anybody help me with this?:good:
Thanks
This app is awesome,
my girlfriend's phone (nexus 5) has been stolen twice and i have found it twice! The first time i found it with the front camera photo feature when you fail your password and that person did herself a nice selfie. 10 minuts later y found her and got the phone back. The second time the thief turned it off when she just found it, this time i only could wait her to put her sim in the phone...and it happened, the phone send me her phone number and i found a lot of information (photos, adresses, student,career,year....) called her and again got it back.
But i don't understand one thing, i had bootloader locked and adb not enabled. Even with password for the phone the girl managed to install a different factory image (killing cerberus forever) and i don't know how she did it, i though the phone was completely locked. Anyway i was lucky because she put his card in to the phone before doing that but i'm still confused about that. I'll try to fix that security hole somehow.
Finally i want to thank the developer for make this app, with 3€ my girlfriend saved 700 and who nows in the future maybe more.
cant help you

Hello, I got this email from Cerbus asking the question would Cerberus survive a hard rest?
reply
Only if you integrate Cerberus into the ROM of the device.

Cerberus support
Hello to everybody,
I have an Alcatel OT-908 and I have a problem with constant warnings about low space. I have rooted the phone using Gingerbreak v1.2 and I have deleted several bloatware applications using Android Mate from the /custpack/app folder (including some games, Google maps etc.). Every once in a while and even though I am not doing anything fancy - just some basic browsing, I get warnings about low space. I use an application to clean the phone cache etc. but the whole problem is quite annoying. I have read in several threads that one solution to my problem may be to install a new custom rom to speed up the phone (it is quite slow as it is anyway) that will support the creation of a virtual partition in my SD card recognized by the phone as "internal memory". I am a fairly new user of android phones (my first experience is with this phone and I have it for about 4 days...) so any help would be most welcome.
I've browsed through several sites on the net but so far I haven't found a custom rom.
Not a very popular model I see... ╯▽╰
Searching for something similar myself, but sadly, I think the ZTE smartphones have a larger userbase on the budget device end, so don't hold your breath..
@fixxxer667: If you come across something (even though highly unlikely as you've said so yourself), please do share it with the rest of us who are searching for custom ROMs for our not-so-popular phones
Moving focus to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1273508
As it's the first one showing some promising activity with Recovery, hopefully development to follow
@fixxxer667
I totally agree. Let's hope for the best!

Is there android 4.0.4?
Hi all. I have bought FPse, currently on my new XZ2 (which I'm loving so far). I had a Play Store voucher so have some remaining credit, which I'll use to source some apps. My question is before I get involved in unlocking the bootloader, rooting etc., can I back up the apps so that I can then transfer them to my device once I have installed LineageOS or the Sony supported AOSP? I like the idea of Android, not so much Google. I don't have an SD card yet to use in this, but will be getting one in the near future (most likely around 200GB) but think I have a spare one laying around I could use in the short term for this.
The device is new and apart from a few apps and contacts, I have no data on the phone really yet so would like to get this done fairly soon before I get a lot of stuff on there.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
Most backup apps should work. Titanium backup is one of (not the) best. There are plenty of tutorials for it
I have read about Titanium backup but my understanding is it needs root to worry properly. While the aim of this is ultimately a new room and root, I'll probably end up using Xperifix to get there, so I won't be able to backup the apps properly. I'll read some more about TB though first. Thanks for your response.
Also I'd like to apologise for putting this question in here, I only realise afterwards that Android General isn't meant for questions.
Edit: having now read more about TB, it looks like they have added this functionality which is great news. I'll give that a try in the near future, thanks again.
