[Q] 2.2 Mini Diary - any enhancements? - Captivate General

I have a request. Can someone with Froyo installed check the Mini Diary program and see if there are any additional export options? In 2.1, only Facebook and My Space are there, but I heard that the Vibrant has an MMS option. I would love to be able to send these to something that is not so public, I just want to have a cloud backup, since I have found myself using this regularly.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like it. It seems like a great diary program, except that it doesn't export. I'd like to see it update to google docs, or even export to a txt file.

I've been using the Mini-Diary for a while now and just switched over to a 2.2 ROM that doesn't include it... could someone post the apk? Thanks in advance!

iPhone to Android

Hey guys. I'm a bit new to the whole Android scene. I am an iPhone 3gs user, and I am looking to switch to the EVO 4G when it comes out. The thing is, no matter how many Android sites I visit, I can not really figure out how to switch to Android. Basically, what I'm looking for is a website or information about the basic things. What do I use instead of iTunes (if I need to)?, how do I back up my info?, what is this whole rooting thing?, how do I transfer my information and contacts onto the EVO? So any and all information is appreciated. If there is another forum dealing with this, a link to it would work as well. Thank you, and have a nice day.
First of all your posting in the wrong section, as your question is not about android developing and or hacking, ask your question in this part of the forum, also next time make a little search around the forum, these and many other questions have been answered 1000 of times, and btw welcome to the xda developers community, enjoy your stay.

I don't know anything about how the iPhoney works, but the Gmail help page says:
We support importing CSV files from Outlook, Outlook Express, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, Eudora and some other apps. We also support importing vCard from apps like Apple Address Book.

Hopefully you can find a way to export your contacts, if you have lots of them.
As far as backing up your contacts, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. A Gmail account is required to activate your phone.
Any changes you make to your contact information, it will sync with your Gmail & your phone. Edit a contact via your phone, it will sync with your Gmail account.
Is this what you were asking for?
How to backup SMS?
I use an app appropriately titled SMS Backup.
I've got SMS backups going back over a year. They get uploaded to my Gmail account for easy archiving.
Back up your apps?
There quite a few. My personal favorite is Titanium Backup root (root required)

A quick Googling yielded 2.6 MILLION results, with the terms "why root android".
Give it a shot.
I'm just gonna copy & paste from a very old thread.
* You can install a full Linux distribution, like Debian.
* You can run applications that require root, like Screenshot and Auto Rotate your Browser and or any other application.
* You can install the latest Android build directly from the Android source tree.
* Customize your boot image.
* Create full backups of the state of your phone.
* Create custom ROMs.
* Install Applications to your SD Card to save space.
* Use your phone as a tether to connect your computer/laptop to the internet.
* Turn your phone into a wireless router that provides internet access.
I hope I answered your questions.
Please make sure you seach. Bookmark alot of sh-tuff along the way, cause when you get your EVO, due to the fact you ARE HERE, you will probably be seeking root some short time afterwards.
SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH!
You'll get that answer 9 outta 10 times.
Best of luck to you, and Welcome to Androidâ„¢

Contacts are easy (if you are running a mac) you just sync your address book with your gmail account and it should get passed back down to the phone when you set up that gmail account on your phone. (i havnt done this yet because i dont have a nexus yet but should be getting one soon and the contacts are all showing up in gmail so it should work)

[Q] Moving to Android from Symbian

Hello,
I'm happy to finally have true Android phone in my hands. HTC Desire. It's so amazing, those possibilities are so large and the quality is great.
Previously I was using Nokia e50 - symbian based phone. I want to move all my contacts, all my messages (2k), notes, calendar notes and reminds, photos and videos. Is it possible to synchronise in one or another way those two phones?
It may sound convoluted and there may be better ways that i'm not thinking of but.... i would set up your Google account on your PC and move everything you can from your Symbian to the 'cloud'. Contacts can be added through Gmail, Calender entries moved accross to the online Google Calender, pics uploaded to Picasa...so on and so forth. You can 'Favourite' your Youtube vids from your PC and access them from your phone.
A lot of this may have to be done manually but worth it in the end. Once it's done just sign-in to your Google account on the Desire and everything will sync from Cloud to phone. You may have to find an app to transfer your Browser bookmarks, although the Chrome To Phone extension could help make the task easier. Once you've added them once onto the phone they'll be synced and backed up to your Google account.
Endless possibilities, especially once you've discovered how the App Market gives you access to everything you might ever need. Then there's the fun part, rooting and customizing your phone.
Btw, Video, and possibly Notes, can go to Google Docs although moving messages will probably need an app. From the Market..
Symbian is sucks ;-)
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Okay, thank you! I'm done with contacts, it works fine now, they are succesfully moved from Symbian to Android. But how to move sms?
http://www.simail.si/nokia2androidsms/
the best way for sms! (I have tried many ways...)
I am looking for a way for notes and agenda now..
Anyone know how to syncronize the agenda birthdays from symbian (Nokia N79) to Android?

[Q] Is there an app similar to "Keep My Ringtones"?

Those of you coming from WinMo 6.5 might remember the incredibly useful little program called "KeepMyRingtones"; it backed up and restored individual contact's ringtones so you didn't have to manually add them after you flashed a new ROM.
I can't find a similar Android app. Am I just being dense here, or is that something that's truly missing?
MS has still chosen not to store ringtones in Outlook; you'd think Google would support it in Gmail, or at least provide an option to store shortcuts to restore them. On that subject, am I the only one who feel that the Gmail contact manager is... ummm... primitive?

Gmail Notes Sync??

I just switched from an iPhone 4 to the Inspire and I would like to have everything synced all the time like MobileMe. I did the whole Gmail syncing and the contacts seem to work great and the mail however I can't get the "notes" folder in the mail app to show all the notes. Any help?
First search the marketplace for "google" there are alot of addons.
I know reader is there i use it. And groups, photos etc. can also all be reached by going to www.google.com/ig and logging in. I have found no real limitation with the stock browser and igoogle yet.
Hope that helps.
unless im thinking wrong here, android doesn't really include a notepad app like iOS does. there are a few different cloud solutions, but i believe it will involve you copy and pasting your memos into a new app. i like diigo.com combined with powernote on android.
good luck
Actually I'm referring to the folders in the mail itself. On my computer it shows the notes in the folder but once I view the folder on the phone it only shows one note.

SuperNote App and Uploading notes

Upgraded to HC 3.2.1. No complaints. Like the new Supernote app. Just wondering why it and all the other note apps in the market have an upload option to dropbox, google docs, sugarsync, etc, but when you try to upload it says that feature is not working yet (or something similar). I've tried all of the tablet note apps and they all give you the same message, uploading ability, but won't work yet. Supernotes is the same way. What's up with this? Must be something in Android that isn't yet available. All the developers have put the feature in their app, but waiting on the technology to catch up to implement. Frustrating cause I love the Supernote app, but really need to upload to take advantage of cloud storage. My workaround is to use QuickOffice HD which handles uploads to Dropbox, Sugarsync, and Google Docs. Works great, but is more for documents and not notes.
That's strange.
I've never had a problem with any of the note taking apps saving to dropbox.
I just did a supernote test and a paint note and a regular note uploaded to drop box just fine.
might be a dumb quest but do you have qdocs app on your tab? Others have had this prob but also did not know you needed to have the app on the tab for the upload to work.
Are you referring to Google docs?
I don't know what qdocs is....I don't have that loaded on the TF.
No problems sending Supernotes to Dropbox here. Sends it as a JPG. Sends to Google Docs just fine too.
Would be nice to have background web sync of supernotes, but the Android based Sharing is great for the moment.
This app is a real product differentiator... I hope Asus have some more planned.

I think what he means is, do you have the apps for evernote, dropbox etc installed on the tablet, as the share to function wont work unless you have the apps for the options installed.
Regarding Supernotes: I tested again. What I find is you can upload a .jpg file but not a text file. It says that the text upload feature is not available yet. Such as, save the note as a .docx file and try to upload. It will not work. So, if you got text document files to upload, then what am I doing wrong??
I need text file upload for work stuff. .jpg does me no good in sharing work file notes between computers. I use the TF to take notes in many work related meetings. The text format is most needed for mobility.
Yes, I have Dropbox, Sugarsync, Google Docs, etc. loaded on my TF. I have yet to find any note app that will upload a text based note to any of these formats. Am I missing something? Also, what is "qdocs"? I can't find that app on the market.
Thanks.
sorry for the confusion...yes i meant Google docs
I can upload as text file tho on mine....Google docs.
EDIT..my bad that was a doc I only used keyboard on in supernote and it was evernote which it uploaded as a txt to.
Thanks for clarifying.
I only use drop box... no google docs.
