Hi guys,
Normally, I rely on WiFi networks to browse the internet on my devices.
Ever since I got my Touch PRO, been using alot of data connection (You Tube and the browsing is just very good)
Problem is, Live messenger doesn't seem to connect via data connection.
I have to be connected via WiFi..
Any workaround for that or has it been like that all this time?
Mine works on data connection

Ahuh, so I guess it's just the coverage then
Thanks for sharing
I don't have 3G fyi. but it works fine on 2G.
I seem to be having the same problem too recently - even when I have full coverage.
data connection and internet works fine, but I still can't manage to connect to live messenger.
I am in the UK and on three by the way.
Ahuh, so I guess it might be temporary
Some networks, T-Mobile for example, will block the ports required for IM on some packages. If you've only ever had it working via WIFI you should check this isn't your problem.

I guess there is some proxy setting that may solve your issue:

funny how i can't connect via wifi and u can't connect via ur network.. fun times!
I had a similar problem before, I connected once using WiFi and the next time I tried to connect using HSDPA it just won't recognize it. I fixed the problem by syncronizing using "Windows Live" while using HSDPA. Then Messenger worked.
But I have to say messenger has been acting weird lately, even on a PC. I think it has something to do with their servers.
In my house there is bad 3G coverage. Phone keeps flopping between G and 3G. Very annoying because MSN won't make use of my WiFi connection. Opera does seem to do that though.
fring has ability to work with msn, but I hate fring ...have you tried mChat? it's good alternative, msn is in beta testing, but it works for me..
-Does anyone know how to priotize w-lan for internet connections?
It seem that my phone always uses the mobile connections (GSM, 3G etc).
In menu for connections where internet connections can be created, I can't find anyting about w-lan.
This is something I've been meaning to ask about while I wait for the Fuze. By way of background, I have a Cingular 8525 with the original (WM5) ROM, and it drives me nuts using it at home. I only get EDGE inside my house, but the stupid phone persists in making an EDGE data connection instead of using the nice, fast Wifi connection that I just enabled. I use NoData to make sure it doesn't connect via EDGE or 3G, and then half the time it says it says that it can't connect -- even though the icon says that it is connected!! The only way I can reliably connect via Wifi is to go briefly into and out of flight mode, then turn on Wifi before connecting.
I'm really, really hoping that the situation is better with the Touch Pro/Fuze. Can anyone reassure me on that?
it should be accessing wifi first by default i believe...unless other connection is already connected
Hello!
Start first the WiFi Connection and then the Internet Explorer or Opera.

There's this stupid thing with wlan connections in WM - if connection type is set to 'Work', you can browse through files on other computers in (W)LAN at home, but any Internet connection wll be realised through GRPS/3G. To make it connect to the Internet using WiFi, you need to switch wifi type back to 'Internet'.
Maybe that's the thing?
Is there a way how to setup that the WiFi is connected to both (work AND internet)? I never saw WiFi connected only to work network... I assume there is no way but why not to ask ;-)
I know that many others have problem with that, but I didn't find any solution yet...
Because when I set it as work, my Exchange sync is working but no Internet, and when I switch to Internet, opera and QuickpGPS is working, but no Exchange sync (it is trying to open VPN connection because I need to go though inside address to the server because certificates and of course it cannot get it). Or I need somehow set that no VPN will be dealed on this WiFi network...
I need something like BOTH or Auto option.
It seems to be switching from Wlan to G / 3G / H when the signal is not that great. Mostly with the weather tab and Opera. Quick GPS works fine. The way I make sure it is on the internet through wlan is to shutdown the telephone and keep the wlan on with comm manager. The disadvantage is that anyone calling will be heading to your voicemail. Another option is to use the "Nodata" program, en disable to internet connections.
On Touch Pro, I usually just go to COMM MANAGER and switch on wifi and switch off data connection. It is only a couple of quick steps and saves battery, since you don't need both on, if you only want to use wifi.
I am sure there must be a more seamless solution, but I like easy fixes.

No it is not better. Turning on WiFi is not enough. It will continue to use the cellular data connection until you manually turn it off. This wouldn't be so bad, but in my experience I've had to push the button to turn off the cellular connection multiple times before it would actually do so. What would be really nice is if WM could seamlessly switch from the cellular network to WiFi, with zero user interaction, just like the iPhone does.
I got an other problem with wifi. When I establish a wifi-connection and pull my mail the ppc still connect with a data-canection and didn't use the wifi. My kaiser used the wifi-connection for that.

I wrote the original post before I had a chance to try it for myself. I've had a Fuze for three weeks now, and it works fine for me. I turn on wifi and the Fuze uses wifi. I turn it off and it goes back to normal wireless. (I did do the registry edits to turn on the HSDPA stuff in the connections tab and enabled the modified connection icons in the menu bar. I don't know if that had any effect on this issue or not, but it does what I would expect now.)
Hi, Guys.
I'm pulling my hair out trying to stop my WM6.1 blackstone (Touch HD) from attempting to connect to the data connection when I do something network related on the phone. Because It's already connected to wifi.
I'm connected to wifi, and can browse the web, use messenger etc.. But if I attempt something like entering a network path like \\NETDISK\share into the file explorer, it says "Cannot connect etc..." and it's trying to connect via the HSDPA connection, which can't access my local network anyway. It needs to use the wifi...
Is there any way to stop it trying to connect? In the connection settings, I've deleted all modem connections, leaving just the wifi connectivity. If I try to add wifi as a modem, the option is not there...
I'm really lost with this. Please offer any advice you can. I'm close to twisting it in half..

Hi,
What about putting that networkpath in the adressbar of your browser ?
Dirk
I'm getting so tired of answering this question.......it's very easy
I say you should try and figure it out alone...because that's how I did it!
1- you need a modem Wifi

Gooodman, thanks for the reply, while i'm sure many will find this thread useful now, It's of no help to me.
I do have connectivity via WiFi, It's not a normal networking issue, my network is setup perfectly.
The issue is that the Touch HD is always trying to connect via other means even when wifi is available and connected.
For instance, I'll open messenger, or click download on the aGPS data, and the phone attempts to connect to the internet via my phone service provider, when wifi, is connected and ready.
Some apps connect via wifi fine, it seems to be the WM software itself attempting the connection rather than any of my applications.
I don't think it's as straight forward as the first replyer seems to think.
If he'd be so kind as to post this incredibly simple resolution, i'd be very greateful.
I also struggle with this, but this seems to affect it:
a. Start\settings\connections tab
b. Connections
c. Advanced tab
d. Select Networks button
e. Play around with the drop down menu's, especially the lower one.
I cannot be more precise as I do not completely understand myself, but this has helped me in the past.
Hello, i heard about a program that works as usb modem to connect a laptop an use EVDO on the phone as it would just navigate the net on the phone, but it's the laptop, just to do not really use the modem fuction witch is really expensive. I know it exist for Blackberries, but i am searching for my Touch Pro. Thanx in advance!
Hope it's this
It's called "WMWifiRouter", extracto from their page:
"WMWifiRouter instantly turns your wifi enabled smartphone* into a wireless internet hotspot. Now you can use your laptop and any other device with wifi to get online and surf, email, instant message, and anything else you normally use the internet for! "
google it, i really recomend it. you can use your 3g net, or the edge or gprs or any data conection your service provider gives you... or even the wifi conection if you laptop or pc doesn't have a modem.... just run the software and connect it to the pc, i'll be detected as a modem with internet conection...
hope this helped
Thanx!
I used to tried WMWIFIrouter beta a couple of years ago. I will give it a try. Is this app connects a laptop and use data as if WM was browsing the web, or as a modem?
i connected my blackberry bold 9780 to my laptop and i use it as a modem. i then used virtual router to share the 3G connection to my motorola xoom wifi. i can go online using google chrome just fine but all the other other apps, whether default or downloaded, refuse to connect online. im wondering if it's an adapter setting that i need to adjust or something. p,lease help. i am very frustrated at not bein able to use internet depending apps. it breaks my heart.

I don't understand...you are basically using your Blackberry/laptop configuration to make a mobile hotspot, right? If the Xoom can access the wifi signal for one app it should be able to for any app. Maybe I'm missing something. Can you give more explanation?

I connected my blackberry bold which has 3g to my laptop which broadcasts the connection via wifi. The chrome browser and android market and other goodies apps connect but installed apps don't connect. Plus I recently bought a huawei e5 mobile 3g wireless router. I got my xoom connected to the network but right now only the browser goes online,. The other apps just do not. I don't know what other piece of detail I can give other than the fact that my Xoom wifi is not connecting to 3g networks broadcast via wifi. Any ideas?
This is really very strange... I switched my 3G-Xoom into flight mode and then activated WiFi (so it basically behaves like a WiFi-only Version) and connected it to my mobile (Samsung Galaxy S) and all apps are able to access the internet. Connecting ist to a UMTS-Router (Option GlobeSurf) also worked like a charm...
Did you try to connect your Xoom to a WiFi-Router at home (= Internet access via cable not UMTS)? Does this work or do you encounter the same probs?
