[Q] Bricked Vibrant - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I posted this on another thread:
So I went to This Site pathikshah. com /blog / install-android-2-2-froyo-galaxy-s/ (sorry about the spaces new user and xda wont let me post links, not spamming honest), I did exactly as it said it was working as planned until it reset after install. First instead of the vibrant screen coming up it now says:
Galaxy S
GT-I9000
Then It goes to:
Android System Recovery <3e>
on that screen it says towards the bottom:
update media please wait
E:Cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Cant mount SDCARD:
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI me
nu for format and reboot actions.
copy default media content failed.
so when I try to scroll through the recovery menu I have to push vol Up to scroll down
also it does nothing when i press the ok button (power button), unless I hold it down then it resets and goes back to the same recovery screen

I think your issue is that your are trying to install a froyo update thats was made for the I9000, which is the overseas galaxy s device. I would sugest going back and doing ODIN on the stock files again so we start from scratch. then head over to androidspin .com and head into the forums under Developers Forums and find Eugene_373 and go to Vibrant roms get his ( Rom )Froyo JP3 with 2e Recovery & Working Clockwork Recovery. its the most current FROYO ROM available. Cm team is working on it now and Eugene_373 is moving on from his 2.1 frankin_twiz to froyo also. so there are still issues.,.. but can still be a daily driver.

Ok, so I FINALLY rooted my Samsung Vibrant (SGH-T959) - here's how!

Hey all,
I've been trying all the various one-click root apps that are on here, and none of them have worked for my T-Mobile Vibrant (Android 2.1 update 1).
I did find some other threads/posts elsewhere that mentioned copying the update file to the main sd, then booting to recovery, then installing the update.zip.
After a bunch of variations of trying to boot to recovery and not having the "install update.zip" to the zip file being the wrong file for the phone, I found an answer. Here's how I rooted my SGH-T959:
Go here to get the proper update file. Download the zip and rename it "update.zip".
Connect to your computer via USB and make sure you mount the drive. My Windows 7 box recognized the phone immediately, but my XP box at work didn't. If you need drivers, you can get them here
Copy the update.zip file over to the main sd card.
Unplug the phone and power down.
To boot to recovery console on my phone, I had to hold Volume + and - and the power button all at once. I let the "Virbant" text pop up twice before letting go of the buttons.
The phone boot to recovery console. Using the Volume +/-, navigate to "install packages" and then press the power key.
WOOT! you've rooted the Samsung Vibrant!
Hopefully that'll help - it was a real pain in the ass for me to find this info, but it works.
Update.zip not working to root my Vibrant
I do the steps and it looks as if it is installing, then it reboots but I can't get root access still.. WTF??
Download Z4 Root from the Android market - it works.
