[Q] 3g/edge not working after update - Captivate General

Having trouble with my data network after OTA upgrade.
- Phone was rooted, but just the basics installed (busybox, clockwork, etc).
- OTA update seemed to work on Thursday (reboot after upgrade, all was well).
- However another reboot (just to get email working again) on Sunday and the 3g-edge icon disappears and data network stops working. No additional software installed between Thu and Sunday.
- Installed JH6 via Odin3 1-click installer.
- After reboot 3g-edge icon still missing (and data network not available either).
- Kies mini would not update to JH7 as it did not recognize the Odin3 installed firmware.
- Did a factory reset. Still no icon/data network (on JH6-factory now)
- Used Kies mini to get up to JH7 and still no 3g-edge icon/network.
- Tried to check for software updates and got the following message (DM initialization is not ready. Check network or SIM card) - More than DM, I think it is that the network is not ready.
Phone has worked without issue through all this, but no data network (3g/edge).
Suggestions/Thoughts on how to enable 3g?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for bringing this thread up, but I am having exact problem and I can not seem to find a solution. Wifi works fine, but there is no data (edge or 3g) connection icon. Its just not there and when I am not on wifi it is impossible to use the device to connect to the web :/

Are either of your phones SIM unlocked?

Don't give up !
First, try this:
1. From the main home screen, tap menu
2. Tap Settings, then Privacy
3. Tap Factory data reset
4. Tap Reset phone
5. Enter your password, then tap Yes to confirm
If that doesn't work, or if your phone is frozen:
1. Turn the power off. If your Samsung Captivate is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
2. Hold the Volume Down button
3. Press and release the Power button
4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastboot, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Press and release the Power button
7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the Samsung Captivate. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state. GOOD LUCK

This is what worked for me:
1) Go into Settings > Wireless & networks < Wi-Fi settings.
2) Press on the current network and select "Forget" to delete it.
3) Press Add-Wi-Fi network, then manually enter all of your info. Don't forget to enter the Security type & password.
4) Touch Save. It should then connect and stay connected.
EDIT: Oops just saw you resolved it by re-flashing. However the method I described worked for me when mine could not connect to my network (which I originally configured during the installation setup). This happened to me more than once, and on more than one device too.

[FIX] [4.4.2] - [4.4.4] GPS Fix + Fix after Custom ROM Install's *Samsung* Kit Kat

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DATA LOSS / DEVICE MALFUNCTION(S)
Have You recently Lost Data (and/or) GPS After Installing a Custom ROM to your Samsung Device?
THIS SHOULD*** Bring Your Data / GPS Fix / Location Services Over Cellular Network Back after Installing a Custom Rom and losing these abilities.
This MAY*** also work to bring Data/GPS back on a Stock ROM as well!
You will Need;
USB Cable
PC
Device
Stock ROM for your Device (Search Google for "*Device Name* Stock Rom")
ODIN v1.85
***BEFORE RUNNING THROUGH THE STEPS BELOW BOOT INTO *CUSTOM* RECOVERY (not stock) and WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET, WIPE THE CACHE, THEN GO INTO ADVANCED AND WIPE THE DALVIK CACHE. THIS IS A MUST. RINSE AND REPEAT 3x, AKA DO A WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET, WIPE CACHE, AND (ADVANCED) WIPE DALVIK CACHE***
Step 1: Download your Device Specific Stock Rom
Step 2: Download Odin v1.85
Step 3: Put Device into Download Mode (Power Your Device OFF, Hold Volume Down, Power and Home Key **if your device has a home key that is**)
Step 4: Run Odin v1.85
Step 5: Plug the Device (now in download mode) into your PC via USB Connection
Step 6: **Don't Uncheck F.Reset Time, Don't Uncheck Auto Reboot
Step 7: Click the PDA "Button"
Step 8: Select the Device Specific Stock Rom file you downloaded in Step 1^
Step 9: Hit the Start "Button" and Let the Stock Rom Flash
Step 10: Turn Device on to Get a GPS fix, and test your Data Connection!
After you have run through these steps ^ let the device reboot (or power it on) and check to see that your Data/GPS is back online. Test Google Maps, Test Picture Messaging, Test Internet Function through a browser, Download a file through a Browser etc.
Once you have verified that Data and GPS are back online, go ahead and Re-Flash a Custom Recovery through ODIN, Obtain Root, and Re-Flash Custom ROM (as you did to prior to Data/GPS loss)
**FOLLOW THE SAME PROCEDURES STEP BY STEP TO RE-FLASH CUSTOM ROM**
Personally I did this with a Sprint Galaxy S5 from Vanir Rom to Stock then back to Custom OS (PAC Rom), as well as a couple other Roms. I had lost LTE, DATA, and GPS!
This may be an old school method... It is old school because it works! :fingers-crossed: Don't be Lazy and Enjoy all your Custom Android Fun!
***Like, Thumbs Up, Donate, Whatever ya feel like, SHOW SOME LOVE IF THIS HELPED!!***
Thanks!
I've encountered a similar issue with my Galaxy S2 (T989) running AOKP ROM, WildKernel, and TricksterMod to overclock. I'm not sure where the issue came from, but it will find my initial location, but then stop working right once I start trying to drive (when I use maps for navigating). I wasn't sure if this was an app issue, since I installed Micro G Apps, but then updated the Google maps etc. on the Play Store (does that cause problems?).
I'm interested in trying your method, but I don't want to lose all the data on my phone...
Just wanted to bump this thread up a little, and confirm that this works PERFECTLY.
Was getting a 0 fix in GPS Test on the 5.0.1 GPE ROM. Flashed back to stock (make sure you use the same baseband version that your phone is currently on), finished initial setup, switched GPS to DEVICE ONLY, opened Maps, let it locate me, immediately shut my phone off. Went back into Download mode, used Odin to flash TWRP, flashed the GPE ROM again, booted up and opened GPS Test again. With my HTC Nexus 9, I usually get about 15 visible satellites, with a lock on around 8-10 of them. On my SPH-L720T, I had 32 visible satellites, and was locked onto 24!! GPS was accurate within 6 feet. For anyone that knows anything about GPS, within 6 feet on a phone is ridiculously accurate.
Thank you for the fix. The only issue I had with GPE ROM was the GPS not locking on. Now, it is a 100% PERFECT S4 ROM. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE FIX!!!

Troubleshooting help for Rooting Samsung S7 G930F Nougat connections won't switch on

Hi
I have followed the instructions to the letter to root Android 7 on my S7 G930F. Installed TWRP & all the relevant files, flashed through TWRP & then flashed verity & SuperSU. It worked, in as far as the phone rebooted, but my Wifi won't switch on (nor will bluetooth, data or any other connection) & when I type, the letters overwrite each other.
I can cope with the overwriting, as I could get through the setup & then install Swiftkey Keyboard & log into my Samsung & Google accounts using that, but the connections just refuse to turn on. So I've had to reflash back to the original stock ROM as below (from Sammobile, as my phone has not had the update sent to me yet).
Anyone else had this problem? Not seen it anywhere else (so far).
Samsung Galaxy S7 G930F (UK)
Android 7.0
Baseband: G930FXXU1BPHJ
Build No: NRD90M.G930FXXU1DQB7
Security Patch Level 1st Feb 2017
Thanks

Hi
How did you upgraded to Nougat? I see that your modem is still on Marsmellow
Hi Max
I downloaded the latest Nougat firmware from Sammobile (the one for UK/Ireland & HG3 is the same one, my network is 3 but my phone is European unlocked) & flashed it. Are you saying it's the modem that's the problem?
Thanks

Hi
That baseband seems old , when you upgraded your phone what files did you use . usually you have 5 files , from those 5 you use 4 ,AP BL & CP + home_csc or CSC ......CSC will factory reset your phone , home_csc will not reset your phone if it is the same as the one in your phone
Hi Max
Ah hah, when I flashed the ROM, I only used the biggest file, didn't touch the others. Maybe I should try to flash it again with the other files too, as you've suggested. That's not mentioned in any instructions I've seen. I'm sort of halfway between a novice & an almost medium novice with regard to this kind of thing.
I will give that a go tonight - thanks very much!

Is all part of the learning process
Yes i would do so , flash the full rom
As guide you can check this thread

Good luck
Thanks Max. Unfortunately, it still didn't work. I took the liberty of downloading an XEU UK ROM from Sammobile (the original one I'd got one for my network, which gave me the 3 logo when I booted up, so I didn't want that). I flashed it as per the instructions with all the files, then I went through the root instructions. I booted up fine, but still the same prob - Wifi wouldn't activate, although the keypad was fine this time. Very odd!
Info is now:
Android 7.0
Baseband Version: G930FXXU1DQB1
Build No: NRD90M G930FXXU1DQB7
I think I may not bother, the S8 will be out soon & I intend to get that, so I may wait on root info on that. I've disabled the bloatware for now.
Many thanks again for your help though!

Hi
Strange... what error gives you? how it does behave when you try to connect?
Check you settings , avoid smart connection , did you check in a different wifi
Also did you try to factory reset , and wipe dalvick and cache from recovery
Hiya
It doesn't give an error, I've factory reset the phone through TWRP, so I get the usual setup menu - select your language, then it goes to the Wifi screen. Usually Wifi will switch on & a list of routers come up almost straight away. After I've rooted, the phone boots, I get the setup page, select my language, then the Wifi page just says "Switching on" & does nothing, just stays like that., nothing comes up. I've even left it for well over 10 minutes & it does nothing except saying "Switching On", so if I skip that section, go through the rest of the setup & finish, when I go back to connections in settings, it says the Wifi is on, but it's "greyed out", i.e I press it & nothing happens & it's not connected anywhere.
I haven't tried wiping Dalvick & cache through recovery though. I'm off work next week, I will probably dedicate some time to it then, I don't like something like this beating me!!
Thanks again for all the suggestions.

No way , never beating
Try to boot in "SAFE MODE" to make sure there is no app making trouble ....
Press and hold the Power key.
As soon as you can see the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7 ’ on the screen, release the Power key and immediately hold the Volume Down key.
Continue holding the Volume Down button until the device finishes rebooting.
You may release it when you can see ‘Safe mode’ in the bottom left corner of the screen.
I can remember something about there being a minimal setup for Nougat, but this can only be done by the stock recovery.("sec_csc.zip" recovery script in the csc image If you're interested. Apparently got something to do with default language settings which bugs out the keyboard) If booting in safe mode as mentioned above doesn't help can you please try the following:
Flash the full ROM again(All files in relevant slots in odin) but not the HOME csc with auto reboot ticked. The phone will factory reset and boot into the setup screen. Run through the ROM setup and only once it's done flash TWRP and root. AFAIK this only needs to be done once per device, after which you can factory reset with TWRP again

HELP MY PHONE CAN'T CONNECT TO WIFI!!!!!!

So I just finished rooting my OnePlus 7t Pro and when it turned back on it won't connect to the wifi. Everything worked fine before but now when I flip the wifi switch to "on" it plays the animation but stays in the "off" setting. I've tried to look online for help but everything is from years ago and no longer relevant on android 11. Help please this is my first root attempt.
1. Wipe /cache partition
2. Forget the Wi-Network ( means remove Wi-Fi network from saved networks list ) and reconnect
3. Switch off Bluetooth

I've tried to turn off the phone then press all 3 buttons to get it into fastboot but instead it just does the bootloader thing again and wifi still doesn't work. When I was installing a driver on it I couldn't find the one that matched my build number exactly so I got the next closest thing. Could this have something to do with it?
It should be obvious to you that when the phone is started in Fastbot mode (AKA Booloader mode), the Android OS has not been started at the same time, so Wi-Fi cannot work.

I know that but after going through bootloader mode it restarts like normal and goes back to the home screen. At this point I go to settings and proceed to switch the wifi on and the switch does the "switch on animation" while still staying "off". I did in fact delete all previously known wifi information and managed to wipe the cache partition.

[PDP] setup fail making it difficult to hard reset my Samsung phone

So recently I tried completely wiping my cache from the recovery mode, but when I restarted the phone and held the power and volume up buttons, instead of entering recovery mode the phone just vibrated and booted normally. It then showed this message.
[PDP] Back-up : fail setup-wizard [ FINISH ]
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this ? I've already tried several times.

i think if you need a rooted phone just install lineageos is much faster and debloated than stock, i change my stock today to lineage and is amazing
when you change to lineageos install auroraoss store amazing app like google store
you can root lineageos so easy in recovery twrp install magisk zip thats all no problems at all
IF you want more options to play jest follow these post

That message what you have i magisk recovery script.
Magisk is installed on recovery partition and when you hold that button when phone power on magisk installing to the phone thats why vibrate
If you wanna go to recovery mode just hold same button combo before phone start logo shows and keep long as possible and you must have connected usb cable to the pc if you press button combo when logo is already on the phone then magisk start installing and thats why its vibrate
When you will hard reset i think you gonna lose magisk and root.
That message what you have should say "backup success" i think magisk is broken and for me is not working too

Do you fix this?
I have had that same issue. Unfortunately my partner's phone had a keylock on ii so these are the problems I had to face.
Draw the pattern several times but it never gave me the option to 'use a google account' so it carried on until I had to wait 65 minutes before drawing another pattern. Still no google account option.
I'd swipe down, select the wifi to get it to connect and it wouldn't let me look for my wifi to put a code in.
After a search, it gave me some software that I can download off Tenorshare so I downloaded it and tried which put me to the next problem, I couldn't get into the root menu to factory reset the phone and the phone wouldn't allow me to get into the diagnostic screen when I type on the *#09#*, I think the code is but you can get in via clicking the emergency call option. I'd volume up and power, it buzzed twice and still continued to the main samsung screen. The software from Tenorshare couldn't do much with it ie remove the google account but here's what else I did. I remembered that I used to upgrade firmware on samsung mobile phones via this website so I downloaded the Odin software, found the correct firmware from sammobile.com and that came up with something surprising. As much as I couldn't get into the root menu, I just believe that it's missing or corrupted,
so I connected the phone to the PC using the USB,
fired up Odin, Odin didn't show anything in the log but it after restarting the phone and pressing volume up and power, it buzzed twice and it went into a blue download screen and sat there. I thought, heyyyy this screen is usable.
The download for the firmware was complete and I unzipped it to it's 5 components, USERDATA, BL, AL and two others,
I had put the seperate files into the Odin software and clicked the start button. It uploaded the firmware successfully and restarted the phone so I did the volume up and power (I think I did it or the phone went into the root menu itself).
From there, I factory reset the phone, rebooted and it still asked for the draw pattern but I could set up the wifi, so since I was doing this late, I couldn't be bothered to phone the partner up to get all the email, questions etc.
So I rebooted the phone, went into the root and cleared the cache; this didn't really help at all because the draw pattern came up and when I used my gmail account; the phone wouldn't change the owner.
So I went back to the Tenorshare software and used the google account removal option and that worked;
The is completely clean and I can give it back to her, I did some google updates, galaxy store updates and it works fine. So just need to give it back.
