Froyo with Recovery 2e? - Captivate General

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790686
According to the source, they have a method of having Rooted Froyo with 2e Recovery. and that's for our cousin the i9000!
Can this be done?

Honest question, what's the advantage of 2e?

Does this phone have an encrypted bootloader like the Milestone and the Droid X?
Yes, hopefully with the Droid2 and DroidX being the same way as the milestone, more people will try to open them up. The milestone had a lack of support thanks to the droid being open
yes the d2 has an encrypted bootloader & efuse same as the dx

Will the "one click" root for DroidX work on the Droid 2 as well?
Thanks
i would think not considering the Droid 2 is 2.2
Can confirm that universal androot and easyroot do not work for Droid 2, tried them today and they failed, won't brick you though. But yes those exploits were patched with Froyo.
thx for that

Thanks for that, you saved me 15 minutes. But let me try too.
don't use one click method instead try cmd and make changes as you go along
once they get custom roms on the X there will most likely be roms on the D2.
rootable does not equal free bootloader!
A encrypted bootloader = no custom roms!!

Encrypted bootloader = no custom kernels. Custom roms with stock kernels aren't out of the question.
dont you think we can flash a different bootloader on these things? i'd like to think that we can do it if we put our mind to it.
one of the reasons i love my droid1 (or Droid OG if you like) is that i can overclock it and keep it top of the line. i would hate to see this eliminated.
but i am confident we will find a way! there is a will so.....

So does the D2 having Froyo effect the recovery image? Could a fake OTA method be used similar to the HTC devices with the 2e recovery? I'm just thinking here please don't clown me.

that is a rom you want to flash. we are talking about the bootloader which would allow us to install custom kernels.

Possibly not....i have an incredible and i am looking into switching and i doubt our method will work fpr you guys....from what i understand, the bootloader can ONLY FLASH MOTOROLA SIGNED ZIPS. I guess there is noexception for that rule.....i would check out if the dx exploit is or is not patched in the d2........then it will be smooth sailing from there!

Milestone guys been looking for that solution for like a 1yr now? so im asuming someone gave up somewhere along the road...
So chances are like 1 in a million trillion chances, that the private keys gets public, so we can sign the bootloader ourself... its like having a smart card for Sky1 and extracts all the keys, which happened once as the employee went to the competitor, so i guess a Motorola employee has to go to HTC so we can get the keys lol
and hacking the key is like waiting for Milestone 53 coming out in 2025...

No it's not the same, it's not rooted or tampered with, and the installation method is different. If you want to completely unroot your phone go flash the stock ruu
We don't need people like you complaining about roms you don't like, but you don't see me posting about that now do you?
The rom link is finished, and please don't flame me for sharing this "stock" "untampered" ota rom, thanks!

You did ask if we needed another. A RUU is essential for every official update IMHO

No you will not loose those things. The first post describes how to get into bootloader after flashing the update. Only your system partition (rom) and kernel will be the official ruu images.
I just noticed there may be a problem with the name of the .zip. There is a gap in the name so you will probably have to rename it and delete the gap in order for the recovery to be able to flash it.
I will work on fixing it later on but for now renaming it won't hurt the update at all
Thanks again, you have just created my new "fall back plan"...

This is also good for devs to get a chance to try the stock ota if they want to mess around with it. That was the main reason for this update. Hopefully someone will help to get the bootloader unlocked for people who buy a new evo shift . But luckily this update doesn't already have the locked bootloader in it

How to backup stock rom?

I'd like to get custom rom's on my phone, but one thing scares me. Since im from a canadian carrier, i don't really have the flexibility of finding my rom as U.S citizens have. I've heard that nandroid backs up the rom effectively, but on the contary, i also heard it keeps bits of rooted elements. Any insight at all?
Thanks in advance.

When your done and boot into ClockWorkMod custom recovery, you can backup your stock rom.
LG G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Asus Transformer - 3.7 Revolver OC/UV
Thank you for the replies. I've got three more questions. That is considered "rooting" correct? I'd be able to install a rom afterwards using clockworkmod right? I've used the clockwork on another device, so it isn't new to me at all.
My second is regarding the stock G2X recovery. Would it be the same for my Canadian version of the phone? I'm guessing yes since the hardware is the same
Finally, would this enable my FM radio? For some reason, it isn't enabled with my carrier.
Thanks in advance

After rooting... you can change pretty much the whole OS by flashing custom ROMs found in the thread mentioned above, or you can just make small changes by installing MODs that changes certain things like battery, etc. To install some MODs you will need to flash the respective Kernels as well. However as a beginner I would recommend just flashing custom ROMs.
As of now, I've tried Skyrocketeer, QuickWiz, and Sky Ice Cream Sandwich and they all are usable with minor bugs here and there that may or may not affect you.
Good luck!
Thank you so much cue_32 and pativets. Now time to play around with some roms...

First you need to flash Clockworkmod Recovery. Then you place the zip on your SDcard, do a Nandroid backup through clockworkmod Recovery (not necessary but highly, highly recommended... especially if you have never done this before.) Then select install zip from SD card, find the .Zip file and run it and you should be golden.

Thanks reubendevries, makes sense now. Again thanks all for your great helpful tips.
Hey one other thing, try not to flash through Odin. Samsung has a counter for custom rom flashing and they will void your warranty. The best way to get clockworkmod recovery is buy paying through Rom Manager Premium. Sure it 5.00 bux but thats a worth it compared to voiding your warranty. It also will make sure you install the correct clockworkmod recovery.

Umm... that's probably because it's meant for froyo bro. If you can still boot into the rom that you were in, add the su fix in the Doctorz rom and then flash it. If not, odin to stock, root FROYO, 3e, gtg community kernel. You know the deal.

If you had really researched it you would have read that SOC won't root the kk3 leak.
The GB roms that you see have been modded or ported.
To root the kk3 leak all you have to do is flash entropy's kernel dated 11/02/11.

I'm sorry, but I'm a total noob with Samsung. I rooted to a particular ROM, but ran into some issues and had to unbrick the phone. Upon doing so, I selected the kk3 leak and then lost root. I used SOC 2.3.3 to try to reroot, but I got stuck at step 7. So I want to try flashing Entropy's kernel as you mentioned. I'm not sure how to do this though. The kernel is in a CWM .zip format, but Odin reads .tar files. Do I unzip the .zip file and then convert to a .tar file? This didn't seem to work when I initially tried it, but perhaps I did something wrong. Any special settings I need to use? Also, do I just need to reboot after I flash it and I will have root? If not, what else must I do?
Sorry again for my lack of understanding. I've been trying to find an answer for hours and have become a little desperate. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
