Okay, here is the story... Sometimes I just want to soft reset my Tornado to close those "unclosable" apps like MSN Messenger. So I wrote this little program to help me. Now I don't have to turn off the phone and turn it on again just in order to do a soft reset.
I'd like to share it. Haven't been tested on Tornados other than mine. Use it at your own risk.
Just extract the exe from zip, copy it to your Tornado, run from File Manager... you can also create a shortcut for it. :roll:
B.T.W, It DOES NOT work on Windows Mobile 2003 platform. So don't bother to try.

I just made it for fun.
Planning to add scheduled reboot function. So it can reboot in midnight, and you get fresh memory for a new day.
Any other ideas are welcome!
If you are havign trouble making registry settings place documents and mail on the storage card because boot-up doesn't find the card fast enough, then maybe soft reset will help.

You didn't understand me, but I think I was wrong anyway.
There are times when you try to place certain system folders on Storage. But when phone boots, it tries to write that data before it recognises the storage card, so it creates the folder in system memory again (I think in Application Data instead of original location).
My thought was that if you could make a registry change immediately effective without theneed for a bood sequence, you could have your data on the storage card.
However, recent reading tells me that for registry settings to take effect, the system needs to be powered down. So no good.

I have the TyTn and when I goto remove programs I see no programs in the list? I even tried a soft reset but still an empty list? The weird thing is that all the programs are visible with "Remove Software" in Pocket Mechanic. Anybody have any clue what is causing this?
I have all my programs on my storage card and the card seem to be fine. After further testing, I seem not to be able to install any programs now at all? I have plenty of space on the card but programs will not install to the phone memory either and plenty of space there also?
I am trying to avoid a HARD RESET.
have you tried removing pocket mechanic? maybe it is messing with your installations?
i had similar prob. with MPx200, although i think following may help:
1. go to /window/appmgr
2. move(copy-delete after) all folders & files somewhere(i.e. Storage Card/appmgr) except folder with name of prog U wanna uninstall
3. try to uninstall it

Thanks for the replies. I decided to restore a backup to see if that would solve my little mystery and it did. I might have been toooo confident when I used Pocket Mechanic to clean the system by deleting everything that showed up in the list!? If this does happen again I will try what is mentioned above thanks.
This also happen with my wizard but i think because something corrupted the registry or the memory but after that activesync would only allow me to make a partnership as a guest and woudl say samething was wrong. i just reflashed my wizard and it fixed it but i think it could of been fixed by just hard reseting.

first of all may i say what a great help you guys have been in the past. but i messed up. i updated to another rom this dir had a ms.nbf file in it. previously when i rebooted i had an o2 logo. then after this flash i had a qtek logo. but the software itself was extremely slow. and it did not seem to clear my previous setup as i now had two of each icon. reflashing with one of rom i found here and then i had three icons of each. and suddenly i had an imate bootup splash screen. where is all this info stored and how can i clean all these roms and start fresh with one of c_shekhar's roms. i understand the the radio part and the the wm5 part but the rest is confusing. please help

10. Now you have to hard reset your device.
Press simultaneously: Reset Button + CameraButton + RecordButton.
Hold them pressed until the "Boot Options" menu appears on the screen.
Select the options as follows:

Clean Registry Hive -> YES
Format Storage -> YES
When done, press DPad and wait until OS starts.

perfect it worked like a charm. thank you very much Rudegar. much appreciated. i have another problem still. my memory card is not working at all. it does not see it at all. im using C_ShekharAKU3.5b.R40.P24_public rom and the operating system is perfect other than the fact that my memory card does not work. but if i slide it in with the 2577 dir on it it installs the probrams perfectly. im confused it can access it but does not alow me to go there.

BT switches off
I have this constant problem for quite some time... and dunno wat to do :-(. Apparently when I put my phone for charging, it switches off the BT after a while... and am using a BT headset as well... this happens even when iam on a call... and eventually the call gets transferred to the handset, but I cannot hear anything from my handset either... i need to disconnect the call and then continue... :-(. any work arounds... and watz the coz of the problem?
another thing... some time it shows that I have multiple storage cards... there are images of the same storage card in the explorer... think I had seed a max of 4 images at once... any idea watz the prob and huv to fix it?

I've been able to use HTC homescreen on my vox but I can't get some things to work like the favorite people application and the weather part... In fact only the clock works
Unfortunately I don't have time to look further into it, but it shouldn't be too difficult for the geniuses out there

Edit: Seems the phone sometimes crashes when you insert the sd card. without sd card it boots fine... Maybe someone knows why and can fix this error...
Before downloading you have to notice that this cab can cause a crash and you have to hard reset the phone.
Gah. A hard reset is now needed all because of that cab above this post.
Total crash, stuck in reboot cycle.

Update: Seems that the cab did something to the phone's MicroSD support. Or something. I can boot the phone without having the storage card inserted. Any idea what may have been changed? I'm guessing something in the registry, but not sure really.
Same problem to me schlinkey. But i can boot without sd card and insert it when booted. I added a notice above about the problem. Sorry that you had to hardreset your phone.
Did the Plugin worked for you when you boot without sd card?

It's alright, a hardreset now and then keeps the phone running smoothly
When I managed to boot the phone (without having the SD inserted) I uninstalled the plugin. The error remained however, so ended up with a hardreset anyway
All working again now!
Got it installed on my Vox now, currently uninstalling look alike themes and stuff that I no longer use to free up space on my phone now. Thanks for getting the New HTC Theme to work on the Vox. Just ned to get weather plugin working now. I've also got an annoying problem where my Vox with my T-Mobile Sim in says that I am Roming and the carrier plugin says thatI am connected to T-Mobile UK. I'm in the UK and using a T-Mobile UK Sim.

No problem with the Home screen, but I have had the reboot problem with the SD card for ages.
I did manage to get it to boot with the SD card in by doing various things.
When I first had the problem switching to flight mode before a reboot fixed the problem. The after installing some software it would only reboot with the SD card in if I first ran SK tools to clear duplicates in the notification list and selected a home screen which did not access the SD card (including the MRU list) such as "Windows Simple".
When I installed the Office 6.1 update the problem appeard to go away.
Then I installed Facade and so far have not managed to get it to boot with the SD card inserted.
I guess I could uninstall Facade - but I want to use it.
A Hard Reset is too drastic and I don't want to try that - easier to remove the SD card than to spend all day re-installing everything on my phone - no gurantee it will work anyway.
I suspect its a problem with the SD card driver as I have read that later ROM versions fixed the problem.

I thought about that - not tried it - I assume it would back up all the registry settings along with the files.
But if I do a restore, I assume it would be back as it was before the hard reset, including the cause of any problem.
Although I suppose it might allow for some experimentation, with the ability to put things back to how they were before any changes were made.
Can someone who has used it give some comments on how useful sprite would be in these circumstances.
Hi all! Has anyone experienced the "My People" application stopping working after a while? After I installed it, it worked shortly, but now when I try to open it, the list flashes quickly, then disappears. This is from both the Home screen, and through the Start Menu. This has happened both times I've installed it. Any ideas?

and how quick is you home screen with that smart toolkit and 3d menu ? bacause i got it before and it`s really slow !! I love this HTC 730 homeS .
those are all files wichout 3D menu and work good lake wihout "tuning"
but keylock need lock from pres key profiles/off display and select keylock if u use difrend keys to keylock or methods 3D menu god/off and need run again its bug affter instal smatoolkid ;/

I am in serious trouble and i need help. i realized i did not have outlook, thus my contacts are all gone.
I had tried to update my software earlier by installing some .cab file. It was a file for my HTC home. The installation was 'successful', however after i did a reset ( they prompt me to ) i could not boot up my phone. It get hanged once it got to my wallpaper, and i cant tap or press anything. The htc home screen also does not come out.

So something is hanging right after windows boots... did you try to install HTC Home to a storage card? Try booting with the storage card out.

Actually i install the HTC Home was because the message counter on the HTC Home got screwed up. it showed 1 unread no although i had all messages read. but anyway, for now, tht's not my main concern.. =(

I guess I do not understand all of your issues besides the freezing at boot.
A hard reset should be an option, if you're ok with that... and then for the future, use sprite and pim backup to make sure you don't lose too much data.

my contacts are all saved in the phone, and it wasnt back up cause i am not using microsoft outlook.. and lets say i want to do a hard reset, how to do it?
and how do i do a soft reset with my phone.
Is there anyway that i can actually do a SAFE mode boot up? but my phone keeps getting hanged at start up. i dunno if its because it cant bring up a pin enter mode where I need to key in my pin each time i boot up.

Soft refers to poking the reset button, would be more than 20 times after this issue

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure you need an app to use safe mode. You might need to loose your contacts, but don't give up... research and you might find an answer.

And if you've already tried booting without a sim and storage card, you might need to hard reset, which is easy enough after reading the wiki.
e.g. press both softkeys while resetting, or you could even flash a new rom via sd card by naming the .nbh file KAISIMG.nbh and putting it on your storage card root directory.
Read the wiki before you make any decisions and good luck, good news is your phone sounds like it's fine, just install a safe mode program next time.
Hi. I did research like wht you adviced, i managed to log into bootloader mode, i downloaded MTTY program and got my phone to the USB mode. I like to ask the following:
1) can i retrieve and save my contacts as i saved them all in my phone and none in my sim card?
2) Wht can i do next as I'm badly stuck at the HTC home page with only my wallpaper, i cant click on any buttons.

At what exactly point does it freeze?
What is your radio version, it should appear after you turn on the device in red letters on the bottom right.
What is your SPL Version, you should be able to see it from the bootloader?

I found this thread by clicking search in the top right to use google, and typed "save contacts" which if you've gone into MTTY research (be careful by the way) then you might be able to backup your data.

When i boot up, i suppose to have some password protect, to enter my pin before there is reception and stuff. For now, I can only see my wallpaper, the start button, contacts and calander buttons.However i cant touch on anything, it just simply hangs there.
SIM card and memory card are off. I tried SYNC, but it says cannot detect device.

By "SYNC" you mean active sync? Try an Actice sync re-install, maybe?
Sounds like this protect stuff is beggared.

All this actually happen after i installed .cab file the other day, and the installation was fine and i was prompt to restart. It hanged after that till date. sigh =( I'm desperate.

I cant get my device to go any further than hanging right at the wallpaper of HTC Home, the usb doenst recognize my device, so i cant enter or do any thing.
I just wish to retrieve my contacts now, and do a hard reset on my phone.

If you never saved your contacts from and to your sim card without any kind of backup from outlook or pim, etc. you might be ****e out of luck. Gone from a ****ty samsung to a equally ****ty razr, hermes, and now kaiser with the same sim...Always copy your contacts to the sim; or at least a Backup folder on your desktop or lap. flashing erases the main memory, which of course includes contacts. That's why we have a program called sim manager, to backup contacts everytime we erase our systems. Hope you find a workaround though, as a former Iphone owner, reinputting your contacts is a giant *****

Possibly, I've tried to get hold of someone who might know, but it's looking grim.
Storage Card backups and Active Sync are the best way to backup.
