I just copy it to the /system/customize/resource folder with root explorer and then set the proper permissions for the file.

Can someone post up some flashable boot animations for those that adb illiterate? I saw about 2 or 3 in the sticky but none that caught my interest. Think you guys can help me out?
This would be sweet. Hope somebody comes through
U dont need adb...use root explorer. That's what I do.
Dont wanna mess with ADB?
Download the boot animation file.
Rename to bootanimation.zip
Put on root of SD.
Open up Root Explorer, navigate to root of SD long press the bootanimation.zip file, and select move
Navigate to /system/customize/resource
Click Mount R/W
Click paste, and overwrite the existing file.
Reboot.
**NOTE: you may want to back up the existing boot animation first, in case you dont like the new one.
Sent from the bowels of my mind...
snap That's what I am talking about.
Yeah root explorer is just simply that awesome. It doesn't get any easier then using root explorer.
Its like drag and drop..

Any difference between our 2 differences?
Found this over on the DHD forums. Put in /system/customize/resource with either Root Explorer or adb push. Make sure you set the directory to read/write mode and backup the existing one if you want to put it back
can i have it on Live Wallpaper
I do not have a bootanimation.zip file in that directory. I have a couple other *animation.zip files though. I'm running Android Revolution ROM (Sense UI).
Any ideas?
I have downanimation.zip and shutdown.zip
What gives?
It just means that that rom doesn't have a bootanimation.zip.

Try putting it in /data/local. That's where mine is and works fine.
I've done a few boot animations this way.. put the bootanimation.zip on the root of your SD card, and go into Terminal Emulator (you can download one from the Market for free) and type the following, hitting enter after each line:
su
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
reboot
note that when you hit enter after the 2nd line, it may take a few secons before you get the # sign again. once you see it, type reboot and enter. and you're all set!
Thats freaky!! Awesome, but freaky!

In stock ROMs, the bootanimation will be located in /system/customize/resource. Other ROMs, including Revolution, you will find it in /data/local.
The animations you're seeing in the resource folder is the shutdown animation
I flashed Humble 4.22 and I really don't like the animation. I would also like that robotic DRROID sound back. Does someone have the original files with instructions on how to change it?

First,
download the boot animation from here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43901231/bootanimation.zip
and the bootup sound from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43901231/PowerOn.wav and place them on your sd card.
Next, use root explorer and go to SYSTEM/media and rename the"bootanimation.zip" that is in there to "bootanimation.zip.bak" then copy the stock animation from your sd card to the system/media directory.
For the sound file, copy the "poweron.wav" from your sdcard to SYSTEM/etc using root explorer. Reboot and enjoy. =)

On ES file explorer the file in /system/bin/ is "bootanimation"
I can rename it to "bootanimation.bak"
Then I can paste your file, which shows up as "bootanimation.zip"
Will this work? I am afraid to reboot and try

Sorry, good catch. bootanimation.zip needs to go in system/media. I'll edit my previous post.

May have been a bad download. Try downloading the one from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1247131
And trying again.
Well it looks like the bootanimation in that thread only contains a black frame. So unless you can find another source or someone who knows more than me replies you're stuck with the humble animation (Unless you want to just keep the black screen). Sorry.
To go back to the humble animation just delete the new bootanimation.zip from system/media and remove the .bak from the original humble animation.

no you will need to find that boot animation (or create it using this guide) then you will need use a file explorer to navigate to system/resources/customize and change bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.,zip.bak.
then place the new boot animation you found (android eating an apple) and place it in the system/resources/cuustomize folder. reboot and you will see it.
So, I would have to re-flash the current ROM?

No, no, no.... In my sig you have all info what you need.
With RootExplorer or EStrong file manager you only replace a boot & downanimation.
And you must change a permits for the new file (rw-,r--,r--)

Because it was not flashable!
Try This App in case you need to make another boot animation, it works quite well at making boot animations and applying them
OR
You could do These steps
1. Download a root explorer app (ES File Explorer is suggested and free)
2. Enable root directory (in ES File Explorer hit menu, go to settings, and check "Up to Root", then go farther down and check "Root Explorer". Accept any Superuser requests.
3. Go back to your explorer and navigate to where you downloaded the "bootanimation.zip" file. Copy (or cut) it.
4. Navigate as far up as you can into your root directory, and then to /data/local/
5. Paste your "bootanimation.zip" file into /data/local/ (it MUST be named bootanimation.zip, rename if downloaded file is not bootanimation.zip)
6. Reboot and enjoy!
