[Q] Help with E900 tablet PC Win CE 6.0 - General Questions and Answers

Hello all,
Hopefully this is the right section to post this in.
I hope you can post questions about PDA not just PDA's with mobiles inside them.
I have a E900 tablet PC built by i think Menq. I think it is also called the b1701. It`s sold as a tablet PC.. but it really isn`t (Well not with how it is sold anyway). The copy of CE 6 that's on it is striped to the bone. There is no pocket anything.. no word , msn ect..
I was hoping maybe some one has found a way to install the missing apps onto this? The best bet would be a new rom image to load onto it.. But i doubt there is one. Have spent hours searching for one.. But nothing found.
I have followed the MSN / live messenger thread on here and tried to install the different versions. Most of them install to flash ok. But don`t run at all. Have tried running the "exe compatibility test" program.. there was afew versions. None of them run either. I`m not sure they will run on CE 6 anyway.
It runs a Samsung S3C2416XH-40 CPU. has 128 mb ram, 2 GB flash. 7" screen.
If any one has any ideas that would be great.
Thanks for your help.

install epocrates on WM 6.5; now w/ workaround solution

has anyone managed to get epocrates installed and working on a WM 6.5 rom?
or is there someway to resize Thomson's Clinical Xpert for VGA screens?
I've recently flashed the stock ATT fuze rom to one of Da_G's WM 6.5 roms. It's fast, stable, and has great battery life (currently sitting on my desk after 26 hrs+ w/ maybe 10% remaining, which is a tremendous improvement from the <12 hrs i was getting). Everything is fine and dandy, but the most important software for me does not work.
Epocrates installs but does not perform the initial autoupdate. it simply stalls at the update screen. I've tried both the wireless installation and desktop installation and both do not work. Speaking to their tech support, I've found that WM 6.5 is currently unsupported. Anyone get this working on a WM 6.5 rom?
In the meantime, i've installed Thomson's Clinical Xpert, but it's interface was probably designed for QVGA screens so the drop-down menus are not navigable on my VGA device. how can i go about resizing the application for a VGA screen (either through modification of the CAB file or if there is any application that can alter the resolution/stretch it)?
thanks.
workaround in this post below
Having the exact same issue- any help will definitely be appreciated. I love the new 6.5 interface and would prefer not to go back to 6.1 unless absolutely necessary
Same here. I just spent an hour trying to load Epocrates until I found this thread. I like the WinMo 6.5 much better than 6.1, but unless someone can find a workaround I guess I will have to revert.

Same here. However, I did revert back to 6.1, still no luck on installing Epocrates. Even disabled the Microsoft encryption setting. Still no go.
what wm6.5 build is everyone using? i've so far only tried it on Da_G's 21198.
i'm really surprised that epocrates won't install on wm6.5 as i don't think very much has changed in the architecture from 6.1. the issue w/ epocrates is that it installs, but hangs during the initial autoupdate. the actual application is installed and can be opened briefly (i can see the the on top etc.), but the data itself is not there b/c it cannot be synced. when trying to install via the windows desktop installer, the autoupdate progress bar pops up and the download starts, but quits with an error about the autoupdater conduit.
if the conduit can be fixed/tweaked perhaps epocrates will work? has anyone tried moving files from a working 6.1 installation to an aborted install on wm6.5? i'd try to do it, but right now i don't have the time to rebuild my wm6.5 setup, which is also why i haven't flashed to one of the newer 6.5 builds.
for the time being i'm using Thomson Clinical Xpert, but its UI makes the application barely usable on my Fuze.

That describes exactly my experience. I am using the FuFuROM based on 21202 on my HTC Diamond.

It's same with me. I reverted to 6.1 bcos of epocrates and UpToDate. epocrates wont install as e'one here said. UpToDate installs and runs but cant display the final pages. It seems to use the IE and the pages are stored inside .jar files. somehow it cant go inside the .jar files to display the html files. It says the pages are not available.
I hope these issues will be solved soon.
BTW, I'm using TESS Premium 4.3 by Aman in my Elf.
Same
Wow same here, that's incredibly irritating
i finally had some free time to tinker this weekend and i've got epocrates running on wm 6.5!
following my previous hypothesis, i flashed to an old 6.1 rom and installed epocrates and performed an update. then i copied the "essentials" folder from "Program Files" to my sd card. i then flashed to wm 6.5 (da_g's 21501 beta 4 kitchen) and installed epocrates. as usual, it could not perform the initial autoupdate. instead, i closed the update application, deleted the existing Essentials folder, and copied the Essentials folder from my sd card that was from the intial 6.1 installation to Program Files. epocrates now works! i didn't bother with any of the add-on components/programs as i mainly need access to Rx, Sx, Dx, and labs tabs. of course, you likely will not be able to update epocrates from wm 6.5 as the crux of the problem is the autoupdater module.
Post perhaps?
Hey just wanted to add my 2 cents saying I'm having the same problem. I'm using HTC fuze with Mystic ROM by vRC1.0 based on Da_G's 21500. It's also a windows mobile 6.5 ROM.
Anyhow I was wondering if someone could post a zipped version of the essentials folder that works, so I don't have to reflash my ROM twice.
anyone has idea about UpToDate thing in WM6.5. Eventhough there is a workaround for Epocrates, I'm still stuck with 6.1 cos of UpToDate. Any input/suggestions wud be highly appreciated.
EDIT: I found about UpToDate in this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499741 but u hav to cook into ur own rom... too bad ..

i have an archive of the folder and i'd upload it, but i think it contains personal information. just flash 6.1 the next time you get around to flashing an upgraded 6.5 rom.

+1 for me too... I too would prefer not having to reflash again.
My Essentials folder won't be the same as yours. It will have my preferred insurance plans, for one thing.
Clearly, this hack allows ePocrates to run. However, it doesn't address the lack of updating, which is really one of the important features of ePocrates.
Since ePocrates is the primary reason I carry a smartphone device instead of a plain phone, I'll be sticking with a 6.1 ROM for now.
epocrates and active sync
I was wondering if anyone using the work around has been able to use active sync to sync with their computer. Does it break if epocrates tries to auto-update that way through the active sync? Is there a way to turn off the epocrates auto-updater so you can active sync?
I was able to use the work around without flashing my ROM. If you still have an old phone, you can have epocrates with Windows Mobile 6.1 on THAT phone, move the essentials to the storage card. Then install epocrates on your 6.5 device with the storage card in, and it works perfectly fine for me.
But now I'm afraid to sync my phone with my computer. I NEED epocrates to function at work. I want to be able to sync as that's one of the main benefits of a windows mobile phone, but keeping epocrates has to be priority one for me.
BTW, I checked with epocrates support, and they said they intend to support 6.5; they just don't know when.
Working now!
its now working officially with wm 6.5
greets,
A couple of days ago I installed the epocrates Rx on my brand new HTC HD2 (windows mobile 6.5) thru the standard installation procedure, and thought everything was running ok, until today that I just realized it doesn't support scrolling (I have to open the keyboard and use the arrow keys -extremely cumbersome!).
Then I searched on the Epocrates site for support and found this:
Question
Does Epocrates support Windows Mobile 6.5?
Answer
Epocrates does indeed support Windows Mobile 6.5.
While installation through a computer should be in essence the same as installing to a Windows Mobile 6.1 and older device, installing directly to a wireless Windows Mobile 6.5 device is a bit different.
Open Internet Explorer on your Windows Mobile 6.5 handheld and navigate to the following web address.
http://get.epocrates.com/?action=all
Please note that "www." is not part of the above web address.
Select the "Install Now" button for "Windows Mobile 5 and later."
Please take note of where Internet Explorer prompts use to save the Epocrates installer file (Main Memory or Expansion card). It is called:
OTAUpgraderSigned.exe
Open File Explorer on your handheld and navigate to My Device, My Documents. You should see the "OTAUpgraderSigned.exe" file there. Tap on it to begin the install process.
Should you encounter difficulties, please contact Epocrates support.
Don't know if anyone already tried the above, if so, please give some feedback. Does it work?
Anyway, I'll probably give it a try later in the day. Let's see what happens.
I have tried as Lovanova tells in his messagge but it still does not work scrolling in my HTC HD2.
Sorry to tell that this way described by epocrates support doesnt work in HD2.
hmm, you re right.
Scrolling does not work on HD2.
Damn!
They could at least update their product flag ship as so little that it doesnt look like MS-Dos-crap ... they ve got good looking apps on the iphone with nice fingerscrolling ...
its so ridicilous

CF card not working

I'm very sad and I'm hoping someone can help me with ANY idea that might work. I just bought a LifeView FlyPresenter CF card for my pda because I heard awesome things about it. Unfortunately any and all attempts to install the card so far have been unsuccessful with any driver version I could find. Plugging the card in hangs the pda until I remove it and soft-resetting with the card in hangs the boot process...when I remove it the thing boots normally and then gives me an error box saying it can't recognize the card (which I pulled out) and is looking for me to tell it what driver to use. I tried typing the driver name in the box but that did nothing, probably because I can't get the error box and have the card plugged in simultaneously. The Card is supposedly written for PPC 2002 and 2003 and I figured that it'd be compatible with WM6 but maybe I was mistaken....the software seemed to install normally and the app shows up on the programs list though.
So....I'm hoping somebody can help me either A) get the thing working or B) tell me how to trick the device into acting like a ppc 2003 or something crazy like that so that I can use the card in some limited way. It has a lot of awesome software and full motion video out that I want to take advantage of. Thank you for your kind support.
IPAQ 210 Enterprise

39 MB free space on the device
Anybody? I'm totally helpless at this point...
hi there, the drivers are imcompatible i have a Lifview cam, its a noshow on my 6.1 custom, you need 2003/se for it to work.
Sorry

Aww ****..... Is there anyway to emulate the OS on a wm6 device? I don't care how complicated or weird it is....any means of running the hardware would be better than having to sell this thing after I just bought it.

Hey have you seen on their website that they have SDK software? I just saw it now. Apparently it allows you to write drivers for whatever platform you want by simply using their dll files and writing the drivers for them. Problem is the link is 404 and I can't find the sdk anywhere else. I know they have the same software for the flycam too. Maybe if we each are able to find our respective versions of the SDK we can both use our hardware again.
Any ideas where I could find the SDK? My methods of searching for things are limited to google but you might know where else such things are likely to be found...

[Q] Quake 3 Arena CE on Dell not working

I been having trouble trying to run Quake 3 Arena CE on my Dell X51V PDA. I did exactly what the install notes say but I get this
"The file 'Q3CE' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."
I have basically converted the PAK0 file already using the converter it came with and put that in the baseq3 folder. I got the PAK0 file from the full game of Quake 3 Arena on my PC so it should work fine. All I can say that even after I converted the PAK0 file it still is around 440mb so it's a big file but I used a 2GB SD card so I have enough room. The PAK0 file is updated since I was using the latest version of the game on my PC.
I have Windows Mobile 5 on my PDA now basically the original OS that came with the X51V. Also I took the libgles_cm.dll file out since my PDA has hardware acceleration.
This is what I have inside my Q3A folder on my 2GB SD card but doesn't work for some reason.
q3ce.exe
gx.dll
baseq3\q3config.cfg
baseq3\pak0.pk3
baseq3\cgamearm.dll
baseq3\qagamearm.dll
baseq3\uiarm.dll
If someone can help me on this I would truly appreciate it. I would want to play this game when I goto Japan in 2 months from now.
I tried using WM 6.1 and it still shows the same error message. I don't know if the 6.1 version will run better than 5.0 eatherway but both don't run the game. Just wondering but does Quake 3 run better on Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.1 Pro? That's if I do somehow make the game run that is.
Is there anyone here that knows how to run this game? I see a lot of views on this topic but no replys? I really want to make this game work. Please help me.
Btw I did restore back to WM 5.0 since that was the original OS that came with the PDA. I did only wanted to test to see if the 6.1 would work but it didn't same thing happened.
Now there must be something wrong that I did since it doesn't work but all I know is that I put the q3ce.exe and gx.dll file in the Q3A folder and made a new folder called baseq3 and put q3config.cfg, pak0.pk3, cgamearm.dll, qagamearm.dll, uiarm.dll
But that seems to not work since I got the error message. I really need help on this guys. Thanks
Does anyone know how to make this game run on my PDA? What did I need to do exactly to make it run on WM 5.0?
I trust that no one is ignoring me here since I know people here are to help each other but it's strange I get no replies back. Did I post this question on a wrong forum?

I can see from Google that you have posted exactly the same question on at least 5 different computing forums. You're not being ignored, but I suspect that nobody knows, or really cares, about the answer. XDA is, primarily, an Android development site and you are asking about a Windows CE - I suspect that you are going to get no answers to this anywhere unless you are extremely lucky.

Microsoft lumia 640 (Windows 8.1): Can I Install Android ROM?

Getting rom builder onto Microsoft lumia 640 (Windows 8.1)?
Howdy all,
This is my first post so please bare with me
I was hoping to install a custom rom (android) onto my lumia 640, but I've been stopped in my tracks because from loads of different websites, instructions pointed me towards installing ROM Builder via uninstalling Extra + Info and then re installing it onto the SD card and then using the previously deployed app CustomWPSystem to replace it with Rom Builer, (I would post a link to the instructions, but it wont let me, but if you type in "How to Jailbreak and Unlock your Lumia Windows Phone" its the first link I believe, website is windowsblog)
. But this can't be done, I'm not sure whether its due to an update of some sort from Microsoft or I'm doing something wrong but the store tells me I can only install Extra + Info to the Phones memory and not the SD Card, I've made sure new apps, downloads and what ever else is set to install to the SD Card. SD Card permissions is green inside CustomWPSystem and everything else is as should, the thing is if I decide to install CustomPFD by modding/replacing the app Preview for Developers, it works fine and I can change the boot up logo, shutdown logo etc..
So after all of that explaining my question is, how can I get to install Rom Builder or install the android custom rom? Is there another way?
I am fine with having to hard reset my phone if needs so just tell me what needs doing and I'll do it
Cheers guys,
Chris Branston
It's not possible. What ever you,re gonna try you will never get an android rom working on a windows phone

Why can't android rom be installed on windows 8.1 phone after wiping out windows phone OS? Is it a hardware chip limitation?

No, hardware is fine for android but the bootloader is locked.
now the bootloader is also unlocked by WPInternels ......now its possible??????
Excuse me, but what would be the point of installing Android ???
You get as many Android devices as you want for all prices, while Windows phones are so rare...
I could understand years ago, when Android was just starting and people wanted to test it out of curiosity (or to show off) : then Windows Mobile was a real, open and all purposes OS and we could either multi boot on the SD card, or replace the ROM.
But now bootloaders are locked and Android is everywhere, so why would you painfully pick one of those rare Windows phone to trash it, while you can just pick any Android phone instead ???

It's not why, but why not? I'm pretty sure people will install it just to prove that phones can be manipulated and customised on OS level. Besides, I'd sell all my phones to get a 1520 running dual OS windows/android :good:
Oh, yes. I hear the 1520 is quite versatile.

Hell yeah, I'd love to install android on my 640, its a great phone with a brilliant screen for the price. But the windows store is way too limited. I bought the 640 to develope apps for the store on. But you know what? Since my neive hopeful self did this six months ago, and after spending frustrating days not having decent software to run in the device. Well, since i no longer plan to develop apps for it I'd llve to slap a copy of android on it instead. Dont get me wrong, i will get another phone and it will be android, at that point my lumia 640 will collect dust in a draw or go sit in a landfill somewhere. If i could get android on it, I would definately do that.
Old thread, but I can understand why one would want to install android on a Lumia 640.
$30 for a new unlocked 640.
Android on Microsoft phones is indeed possible. https://android4lumia.github.io/
