[Q] Exchange/Outlook SMS integration with Android 2.3 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

On Windows Mobile, MS Exchange and ActiveSync sync your text messages along with your emails. You are able to text straight from Outlook. New text messages arrive in your email inbox.
I have a 2.2 rom installed which I have been playing with and exchange is working well. Unfortunately it's clear there's no option to sync SMS.
I use this with Outlook Web Access at work as phones have to be kept outside of the room. I cannot install any apps on the PC. I hate to be keeping Windows Mobile for this feature.
Anything I can do?
Thanks.

Android 2.3?

oops... 2.2 new to android... sorry

[REQUEST] Backup sms to Gmail for Windows Mobile

I've always kept a copy of all my text messages in my desktop email archive using an Outlook plugin from Jeyo. However, after switching to Gmail, I'm really trying to avoid using Outlook altogether. That's why it would be great to have a program that automatically uploads all my text messages straight from my phone to my Gmail account. Kinda like MyPhone but with Gmail.
This is what it would do:
* Automatically copy every text message to Gmail;
* Upload messages from different folders: inbox, concepts and sent items, each to the appropriate Gmail locations.
I believe there's a program for this on the Android platform, but not on Windows Mobile.
I'm just posting this here as a suggestion, hoping a handy developer likes my idea, since I don't know how to do it myself.
Services like MyPhone and Dashwire let you do it to the cloud.
You can use Windows Mobile SMS Sync ( not Free ) / PIM Backup to back it up to your PC and manually send it to gMail.
Another alternateive ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324684 ) I think its no longer actively developed
hope this helps
Thanks for the suggestions. Some of them I hadn't seen before.
I'm already using MyPhone, which works automatically and does very well as a plain backup solution, but I'd really like to keep a complete archive of my correspondence (email and sms) in one place on Gmail.
On the other hand, I'm currently using Jeyo Mobile Companion to transfer my sms to gmail manually. The result is exactly what I want: each message is listed individually and chronologically among my emails. Unfortunately, this only works through desktop Outlook, and I'd like to avoid using my pc as a go-between.
So I'm still hoping for some new developement that will do this automatically and over the air. Such a program already exists for Android phones:
http://code.google.com/p/android-sms/
this would be nice
There's a Symbian program like this as well:
http://shop.psiloc.com/en/Application,262287,Psiloc+GSync
Why should Symbian and Android users have all the fun? Couldn't anyone port the Android version to Windows Mobile? It's open source...
Damn, I wish I was a developer myself.
I have been thinking about this too and I very much applaud the development of such an application too. Everything backed up to one place.
The basic idea is pretty simple, queuing a message to a specific folder on a pop3 / imap / exchange server. Restoring or syncing data from the server is more difficult, I suppose.
Sprite used to have (= not anymore) an application that continuously sent received text messages and calls as an e-mail to a specified e-mailaddress. Unfortunately, however, it was unable to restore from it.
Also, backing up messages for the first time will pose problems. Most e-mail services are capped at a maximum amount of messages per day (e.g. 1000 receive / send)
If you have an Exchange server, version 2010 wil have sms synchronisation features in it.
Cheers
Sprite Archie actually looks pretty good! I had no idea this ever existed. Too bad it's gone.
Seems like it simply forwarded text messages (and call logs) to a specified e-mail address. Ideally, I think a program could copy the messages directly to a specific e-mail folder via IMAP, right?
I see how restoring would be a problem, but I wouldn't really use this as a backup method anyway. I already have MyPhone and Sprite Backup for that.
To me, the main purpose would be archiving. Gmail just seems a natural place to store your text messages along with your e-mails: it gives you a complete overview of all your written correspondence.
Glad to see some enthousiasm for this idea!
This would be a good program, so Im putting my hand up for it as well....
(Hope that if this is done it would be compatible with the android way of doing it, thus allowing you to move texts from one platform to the other)
I've added this as a sugestion to Nuevasync as well, being that the activesync platform does allow for selecting SMS as an option to sync.
probably not what your looking for but i have my phone setup to sync my contacts and calendar through google and i run a program called phone log which puts the text message i reciever in my calendar as an event but through i would through it out there i would be interested in a program that did this though
I second this idea, it's works a treat on my Hero and I'd love to have to my sms's pushed to my SMS label in gmail on my HD2
I've actually found a copy of Sprite Archie (mentioned higher) and it works perfectly fine... At least, it did until I bought an HD2. There, it doesn't detect incoming messages. So no luck...

SMS in windows 6.5

I am looking for a way to stop SMS from syncing to my outlook.
I have windows 6.5 and my SMS end up in my inbox at work and I would like to just keep them on the phone and not sync.
Is there a reg key that can be changed to not put the SMS in the inbox or is there some sort of filter that can be set to not sync SMS with outlook.
Wait...SMSs sync to outlook? I'm using ActiveSync, and I dont see the option of syncing SMSs. Is this something in Windows Mobile Device Center (win 7)?
With Windows Mobile 6.5 it places the SMS in the Inbox so that when the phone syncs with Outlook it puts all the SMS messeges in the Outlook inbox. I use exchange mail for work but I don't want my personal text messages to end up in my work email box. From what I have read it has to do with Windows 6.5 using what Microsoft calls "unified inbox".
I want my SMS messages to stay on the phone and not end up in my work inbox.

Android for Business?

Hi all,
I did a Google, but could only see a few results for Android as a business phone.
We're due for an upgrade very soon and I'm just wondering if Android will be any good for business use, or is it's going to cause issues with how we work?
Current use of Windows mobile:
Active Sync (no Exchange) with Outlook Calendar, Contacts and tasks, I don;t sync email because I often want my pc outlook open and running when not in the office, but still want to receive and send email via same account.
Email via Pop3 (same as work PC, Emails kept on phone for 3 days)
Ideally I would like android to do all the same with native apps, rather than having to purchase one to get the same functionality as WM 6.5.
Can anyone who has experience going from WM to Android when using a similar setup post comments on how it went and if it works OK?
Many thanks

Android phones with google automatically syncs with your calendar and contacts via gmail account to my knowledge. I mean...I've went through 3 phones and all of them automatically got my contacts from my gmail account.
If you wanted to best sync for your desktop outlook to your mobile device then Windows mobile is the best that you can get. Since my knowledge Android doesnt sync with Outlook Task and Notes

No 2 way hotmail syncing on Android, but available on WiMo, why?

Hi,
I've searched high and low for a anwser but I have not been able to find one. Why did I have perfect 2 way syncing of my hotmail account on my WiMo Touch Diamond but not on my Legend. I know hotmail is pop only but if for whatever reason it works on WM, it should also be possible to get it working on android right? Being able to read mail is one of the reasons I buy phones like this but deleted messages by pc, read/unread messages not properly syncing between the web interface and the android client is really annoing.
As there seems to be no solution for this, and it doesnt seem there is any hope for a ''fix'' all I want to know is how and why it can work on wm but not on android?
I'm on the same page as you. I have a motorola cliq xt and my hotmail only syncs new messages, not my deleted ones. Also, theres no support for syncing all your folders or support for outgoing mail servers that require authentication. Is there anyword if this issue is addressed in android 2.2?

the reason is that is how POP works. POP mail isnt like IMAP. POP is you just pull the new data and whatever device actually stores the email. POP protocol is more of a temporary storage. When new mail comes in, it sits in the POP inbox untill a client picks it up and then it is deleted from the POP server. Hotmail POP acts a little differently in that when the POP email is reteived, it does not delete the email from hotmail inbox. But it is deleted from the POP server. Why could you do it with your WinMo, because microsoft allowed activesync access for there devices. Kinda like how Googles Android is the only mobile OS that has full 2way push support for gmail.

SMS Sync via AS with Exchange 2010

I currently use a Windows Mobile 6.5 device, and I love the SMS integration with Active Sync in combination with Exchange 2010 (new SMS will appear in the inbox, and it ist possible to write SMS in Outlook with "new item" -> "text message" - this text messages will then be synched back via AS to the device, and the device sends it).
until yesterday I thought that Windows Mobile 6.5 is the only mobile OS witch supports this function (even Windows Phone 7 doesn't support SMS integration!), but: a colleague of me flashed a new ROM (Darky 10.2.2 -> Gingerbread 2.3.4) on his Galaxy S yesterday, and: SMS-AS integration in combination with Exchange 2010 is now working with his device!!! - the first time I've seen that with an other mobile OS than Windows Mobile 6.5!
the reason for the thread here: I'm very interested in the HTC Sensation, and I think about to get one, but: SMS integration with Active Sync is important for me, so is it working with the sensation? Is this a feature of Gingerbread, or does the Galaxy have a "special messaging client" with SMS support? Has anyone seen a Sensation with working AS-SMS integration? If yes: which ROM is needed, or which "hack" is needed?

as I can see in the manual this product doesn't use Microsoft Active Sync (AS) over the air! So that's not a solution for me! AS itself does support SMS-Syncing over the air, my question is which requirements on an Android phone are necessary for SMS Syncing, and if the Sensation has all the reqirements, or how it is possible to get SMS-Syncing with the Sensation working? As I mentioned: Samsungs Galaxy S in combination with Darkys ROM does the job!
some screenshot how SMS integration looks like...
... just to be sure that it is clear what I'm speaking about!
Touchdown for Excahnge does it... sort of
Touchdown for Exchange has a checkbox "Enable SMS Sync" in settings. I use Exchange 2010, and when I activated this setting on my phone, I receive an email from the Exchagne Server:
Congratulations! After connecting your mobile device to Exchange Server 2010, you can now send text messages from Outlook 2010 and Outlook Web App on your computer. You can also receive and reply to text messages.
To start sending text messages from your computer, close and reopen Outlook 2010 or Outlook Web App.
Now you've got one more way to communicate with friends, family, and colleagues. To find out more about using Text Messaging from your Inbox, click here.
Note: If you previously set up text message notifications in Outlook Web App, they've been turned off because the Exchange ActiveSync access you set up on your phone will keep you up to date.

Now I can SEND SMS from Outlook, but I have not been able to receive on my Desktop/Outlook. For that I use Desktop Notifier or Mighty Text.
You answered to a one year old thread .
Anyway, I have a question. Can you confirm that you could't activate SMS sync without Touchdown?
