[ROM][DEV][WIP] ACEvo GB - Desire HD/S Gingerbread Port (2.3.3 & 2.3.2 w/ Sense 2.1) - EVO 4G Android Development

[ROM][DEV][WIP] ACEvo GB - Desire HD/S Gingerbread Port (2.3.3 & 2.3.2 w/ Sense 2.1)
Porting of the Gingerbread sense ROMs seems to be slow to take off so I am resurrecting ACEvo to help get the ball rolling. I'll do my best to keep this updated and to continue working on it but I don't have as much time as I would like to have to devote to it. This ROM will stay completely stock to make it easier to use as a base ROM.
Feel free to use this however you would like, all I ask is that if you fix something you share so everyone can have a fully functional base to build from. If you plan on porting this to other devices please link back to this thread.
Source code for the Desire S can be found at: http://developer.htc.com
If you are looking for a ROM to use as a daily TMartin03 posted a mostly functional DesireS port here. A quick overview of it is available here.
2.3.2 International Version
This one is actually a Desire S port but the interface is the same. Credit for the original port goes to abhi0n0nakul in the Nexus One forums and everyone who helped him get it up and going, it already had working hardware acceleration so there was no sense in spending time on the DHD ports. You can find his thread here.

2.3.3 Chinese Version
For some reason .2 (and maybe .3) tends to sit at the splash screen for a few minutes on the first boot, just give it time to finish loading everything and it'll come up. Afterward it only takes a few seconds to boot.
Sound is working thanks to Honentan and the makers of OMGB ROM, gfx are still in the works though.
As of .3 I added the depends command to find out what libraries link to. You can use it through a shell with 'depends <lib name>'

[DEVS][SOURCE AVAILABLE] Eclair/G1 camera drivers

I've been doing a lot of work recently on getting the camera working on eclair by building the source code to libcamera.so from the parts of the source that were released with the donut drop, then forward-porting the code to eclair.
The result is: http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/6428/20100108232729.jpg (that's the eclair camera app running on my G1 photographing my ugly mug ).
Right now, preview, auto-focus, and taking pics works. Recording video currently crashes the phone. Since this can't easily be dropped into most existing ROMs since the default eclair configuration loads a hard-coded camera stub, and will not load a camera driver. I should hopefully have the last remaining bugs worked out soon and be able to release an alpha version to ROM devs to incorporate into their ROMs.
The source is now available at: http://gitorious.org/eclair-camera-drivers and ready for integration into various ROMs. Please report any bugs encountered.
I'm excited to see this, if you can get the bugs worked out I will bow before you

You can't be too excited seeing this! THX a lot! Please just keep on!
HA.... thats awesome.. great job. cant wait till some devs get in contact withyou and start putting some eclair camera roms out there.
im just fine with no video right now. my mt3g is a pitty with no cam.
Best news yet! I'm personally happy!
That's brilliant! Do you think it might work on Android 2.1 as well?
Let the good times roll!

Awesomeness, you tha bomb diggity yo.
THANK YOU! once its on, im upgrading from cyanogen to xROM or whatever 2.x that has the cam.
Awesome!
The lack of a camera is the only thing keeping me from running an eclair ROM full time.
I'm hoping this gets sorted before everyone abandons ship for the Nexus One and Droid and the-next-cool-phone.
I have an HTC Magic 32B. Hope it will work on the Magics.
Will this work on sapphire 32b?
BTW great job!

AOSP 2.1: How functional will this be?

Basically, how quick could we expect a straight AOSP port of 2.1 and how functional will it be? I know that the 2.2 build is missing camera, 4G, and MMS, but will we have those same limitations since the source code of 2.1 is already out?

Nah--we've got the libraries for 2.1 from the original ROM; all we need is access to flash what we desire, and we can put together an AOSP 2.1r2 build in short order (24 hours or less) that's fully-functional.

When you say the libraries I assume you mean because we already have 2.1 on the evo.
I know with the hero it was a ***** to get the camera, cause HTC has not release the .29 kernel source, so we were stuck with the .27 until toast finally built his own .29 kernel. He is such a stud. By the way it was prolly less than a month ago they got the camera in a 2.1 full aosp rom.
I would think it would not be anything like this though.

I think we have a lot more support coming over to the Evo than we had with the Hero. Shouldn't be that long, but its just a matter of getting that kernel source. Your right though, with Toast on our side I dont think anything is impossible. The good thing about Android is you can flash another image in no time at all, so if you wanna see what its all about (Without Camera, MMS, and whatever it was) then you can flip back and fourth just to see the difference. Apps2SDK will be a big plus since we wont be needing to go to the market everytime to get all of our widgets and things back. My mouth is watering as im less than 43 hours from getting her juiced and ready to go!
Thank you for asking this question! (I was going to but was too lazy.) Unfortunately I'm going to wait to get the Evo until there is a way to get AOSP 2.1 (or fully functional 2.2) on it. I hate Sense with a passion. So, good luck everyone and may you quickly make our dreams come true!

We already have kernel source
We tried the 2.1 camera libs in 2.2 (hint came from the fact that Toast saw that the froyo N1 ROM does not replace the camera library as part of its update from 2.1 to 2.2, indicating that the library itself works unmodified between 2.1 and 2.2), but it failed due to a prelink map mismatch: the N1's froyo build expects the camera lib to load itself at location "XYZ" (in memory), as it was built that way for performance reasons, and works that way on the N1. However, the HTC library (different camera) does not load itself at the same location the N1 expects it (call it "ABC"), and was not stripped with the apriori prelink utility. So the framework refuses to load the library because it can't load it where it expects it should be loaded from.
I didn't try an AOSP 2.1 ROM yet, so it feasible that it may load it properly... However, due to the fact that the EVO has hardware that is not supported in Android 2.1 (FFC, 720p video, wimax, HDMI out, etc), HTC has rolled their own framework modfiications. If the camera lib requires any of those modifications (99% guaranteed, it *does*), the library won't be able to find those modified APIs, and will still fail.

Yessir. At work now but as soon as I get home I am going to recompile my AOSP build for the Evo and pray that it works. As Maejrep said I don't expect the camera to work (either front or back). I know 4g won't work. But I'm hoping I can get a basic build working and then go from there.

I appreciate it! However, it sounds like the same things will be broken in that build as the Froyo build. Kind of disappointing, since I at least want the rear camera working. I don't care about MMS/4G/front cam.

Well we will just have to see. That's the thing. The cam theoretically should work however we don't know yet. With the front cam and the HD recording you never know what they did to the libraries. I've been thinking and I don't see why it won't work. I guarantee you 4g won't work off the bat. We might be able to hack that in though.

Any update on this, guys?

AOSP GingerBread!! Dream v0.2

Hey XDA, this is my first rom its just a basic compile of AOSP, very slow and buggy at this stage i'm afraid, but figured you guys would want to see it in the flesh and hopefully i will be making it run alot quicker in the near future.
To install:
1) Wipe / Data / Cache
2) flash Pryon_Gingerbread.zip
3) flash 2708 kernel found here: http://droidbasement.com/g1/kernels/ram/2635/18/boot-cm_2635.9_ds_32b-oc-uv-xtra-ram-fp-121510.zip
4) Boot Gingerbread.

12/19/2010 (first release) v.01
:: Change log:: v.02
Added Gapps that doesn't crash rom
Added Busybox and Toolbox
Google Sync should be working now
Added Facebook
Slightly faster but still very buggy and not a daily rom.
WiFi Fixed also should work with mytouch now.
firsstt....to reserve for future commenting lol
well... if wifi and gapps were working..it mite b good for many to atleast download n try n bug reporting
I thought AOSP was suppose to be fast?
Working on WiFi now, bug reports would be good, although there's to many to count
2.2 AOSP seemed a whole lot faster then 2.3 but this is just a start and also this is the first time i have cooked a rom worth releasing so be patient please speed takes time + I'm new to all this
Can you please post some screen shots? and btw, have you fixed wi-fi in this build or are you planning on a ver .2 ? And yes, can I please have a list of what's actually working? I know its all too much to ask for but I guess these questions will help understand this AOSP for G1 more.
Thanks in advance
Compiling a new build now with jit and a few extras, also hopefully WiFi should be up and running, anyways will be a update tomorrow.

Um dunno if you read the whole post, but bro said this ain't fast and is buggy, and to top it off he said he's new to this. Soo it can't really be a daily driver. I'm using that CM6 gingerbread mock up, which I like and its been fine for days on end, don't do much on it but I have the new radio w/ 15 or 14 ram hack, firerats aio-script, and new market, don't use data but use wifi, and I almost have half battery by the end of the day and that's about a good ten hours for me. Dunno what's good for you, but I recommend. But really use common sense and read the op. You can keep up on the progress or support the cause and help out and give a bug report

[ROM] CyanogenMod 7 b2 for vega (04/03/2011)

I know all you guys have been waiting for 2.3 on the vega well here it is its very raw and probably not good enough for every day use.The build is at the same stage as the gtab so it has all the same bugs and so on as the gtab plus a few more just for us lol :-D(as we don't have kernel source yet :-( ).
There will be little support if any for this build as i am currently working on a LOT of stuff. But when we get kernel source i can work some more on this
Please have the stock rom and nvflash ready in-case u have to recover from this :-D
Nither me or the cyanogenmod team are responsible for any damage caused by this rom weather that is bricking your device, eating babies, global warming or your house burning down !

im so gona flash this. if its only camera, rotation and video decoding not working it seams usable to me. I just have to wait to friday maybe monday when my POV Mobii arrives. I got CM7 on my DHD. I also have an Archos70IT but no roms for that and a Toshiba Folio wich really is quiet nice. But it dosent have that strong community and rom devs around it. Then i saw that You had jumped on AdventVega and was going to make a CM7 build for it+ it has several other roms and rom builders working for it. So i orderd one. I really miss having an active community around the devices i got. Well the Desire HD is good, but the plates i got, when i check there forums almost never any activity. I hope people will tturn to Xda for the Vega not just Modaco.
I just your kernels for the DHD. Always good qquality work, thats promising for the CM7 for Vega.
PS. Download link for CM6 dont work, i only get error 404. Could you please upload a working link
I really need rotation to work before I can stick on one of these CM roms
However good news, kernel sources should be out today or tomorrow and Paul at modaco may already have it.
Nice one, I thought you'd abandoned this.
What is the point of releasing cm7 when you get cm6 to work properly for day to day use. I say waste of time.

I concur, plus CM7 has better features for our tablets than CM6.1 i.e. how to move apps2sd
It still doesn't make sense as both of them still buggy and not good for daily use.
lol the issue is the fix for sensors on 2.2 would fix 2.3 soo really 2.3 is thing to work at ... that and getting a solid vendor base so when 3.0 hits aosp we will be able to make best use of it .....
the main issue is nither 2.2 or 2.3 aosp have any real support for tegra 2 chips (hw decoding and other features) .... 3.0 aosp will do as there main device will be tegra based im hoping it wont be too much trouble getting 3.0 on this device

[ROM] Cyanogenmod 9 v1: Youtube Fix Attached!

youtube fix attached until i can bake it into the rom and reupload, expect a few more changes once the reupload happens
hey guys
updated with usb mass storage quickfix
back again with a new rom port. this is cyanogenmod 9 for the heroC.
please do not expect cm9 to be a magic cure all for all the problems we still face on our older devices. this runs equally as well as eligorom (evervolv) and will most likely stay at the same pace as evervolv
i take no responsibility for your phone crashing and burning in an epic fashion, or the naked zombie from miami starts a worldwide zombie outbreak. or war, or famine, or disease, or anything of the sort. try at your own risk, dont bother me if your phone blows up
dont give me any credit, give the following people mad props and donate to them if you wish to:
erwinp for youtube fix
stritfajt for getting the camera working
mongoosehelix and all the crew over at the eris forums
1ceb0x for the kernel minfree tweaks and the crew over at the hero gsm forums
dsixda and his kitchen
matt, jaybob, dastin and the heroc crew
zeppelinrox and his v6 supercharger script
tvall and the crew at the g1 forums for the rom
all the people who test this rom and give me feedback
im sure i forgot people, im sorry if i did and if i forgot you please yell at me and ill make sure to thank you
what works:
touchscreen
sdcard
radio (data and calls)
adb
camera preview and taking pics
fixed keyboard
wifi
sound
buttons
audio
root
vibration
bluetooth
zeppelinrox's supercharger script
minfrees are set at boot, no need to change them
video playing from sdcard (software encoding)
displays correct carrier, and hopefully mms should be fixed
usb mass storage (had to use an app, not ideal, but working)
youtube (non hd)
what im working on:
need someone to test mms with stock app
what doesnt work
hardware acceleration
youtube hd (almost unrealistic, at least it works)
probably others
works with problems:
camcorder (displays preview but will not record)
long press home displays large previews, not sure why just yet
other stuff im sure
when you flash this, remember i did not sign it, so if your using clockworkmod recovery toggle signature verification
i reccomend downloading Script Manager from the market and running V6 supercharger. the reason behind this is while minfrees are set already, trebuchet could use being bulletproofed.
this is the gapps i use from evervolv eris: http://www.mediafire.com/?qbpc1zthauh4c1h but feel free to use whatever ones you want
and now for the link:
CM9HEROC v1-1
http://www.mediafire.com/?zutjrhbizhuhhqu
md5sum: 2d9fb865dae038a9c87e4e13db2b5a4c
happy flashing!
Thank you
will pull my Hero out of the draw and give this a shot!
Does camera autofocus work or do we still have to set focus to infinity?
i havnt tested it out yet, but seeing how there is little to no difference at all between evervolv, aosp, and cyanogenmod ics, if we run into camera problems in one ics rom, we will have it on all ics roms
im going to take the safe road and say no autofocus doesnt work, still gonna have to choose infinity. we're amazingly lucky to have camera on ics, and stritfajt did his best to give us what we have.
I was getting nothing but fc's when I flashed this :/ I have firerats at 170 50, and nothing is different from flashing other ics roms. I was able to get through the gapps setup, and settings worked fine. The fc's I remember seeing were browser, email, trebuchet, and the gapps process.

hey shakes,
yeah fc's are an unfortunate part of our ics experience right now. if you flash just cm9heroc, you dont get half the fc's as flashing gapps also.
gapps are slowing down our ics roms pretty noticeably bad. im not 100% sure what to do about it at the moment, but im investigating.
when you get those fc's, just hit wait, and then wait a minute or 2 for everything to chill out on your phone, and you shouldnt have many (or hopefully any) force closes after that.
(this is my assumption that you had just flashed the rom and gapps and got all the fc's immediately)
can anyone test if mms is working through the stock app? much appreciated
oh hey and im going to be uploading another build with a way of fixing usb mass storage, not my ideal way, but it works. plus a few build.prop tweaks.
Which sources/manifest are you using? I've been off and on working on cm9 with our TeamICS repos on github. It compiles and boots fine but every app force closes and then the phone starts melting. I haven't had enough time to figure it out but seems you got it all working! Look forward to testing this out.
I'll try just flashing cm9, but wouldn't trebuchet (the launcher) still fc? And these aren't fc's where you're given the option to wait, it's just the dialogue that basically says such and such app stopped working, just letting you know, hit okay to dismiss. Haha. I'll take another look later today and see what's going on, right now I need my phone so I'm running your everevolv rom.

Same too on the GSM hero side
hey kayant and shellnutt
i ported this from g1. i dont have the internet speed to download the repos or else i would be working on a true cm9 port built from source. sorry for the inconvenience.
shakes,
the only time ive gotten trebuchet to force close on me is when i first boot the phone and unlock the screen too fast. if you can, try to get a logcat and let me know if you find anything out of place.
I'm not sure if I can, I'll definitely look into it though. Any chance of an update for this?
always a chance for an update to this, i just have to have something to update from since i cant build from source.
if anyone knows how to build from source, has the internet speed to dl and the processor and memory to build, PLEASE build cm9 from source. then we can pull in all the fixes that are going to make it into future versions of cm9.
if anyone manages this, please upload your work.

This is why we were merged with evervolv, so that any changes they make for devices like ours get to us.

there has to be a way to pull those changes from evervolv over to cm9 though, they are basically sitting on the same base. really its just frameworks that are different, and not different by too far.
i respect everything that the evervolv team is doing and i appreciate the hell out of them for keeping us in mind even with how old our phone is, but many of us are used to the cyanogenmod feel after using it forever on many different phones.
as long as some device like ours has a cm9 built from source though, ill continue to port it on over to heroc and hopefully keep everything evervolv has working consistent through changes.
Hey ya'll, I was just snooping around here in the hero forum since I just flashed a rom on my wife's sprint hero. I see ya'll have a cm9 port over here as do we Evo'ers too. I am using CM9 from Team D.I.R.T over there in evo land. It is great and I thought it would be worth mentioning that "videocam illusions" works great with CM9 on the Evo 4g. We use it to replace the native camcorder. It is free in the Google Playstore. You can give it a try, nothing to lose. Maybe you will get lucky.
thanks cityneversleepz ill have to give it a try, been super busy havnt had time to mess with my phone in a while
