I'm feeling that the keyboard wants to escape it's closed position all the time. Would a case reduce this?
As of right now it doesn't feel like this thing'll last 2 years with the sliding mechanism not going to hell.

if it comforts you any:
A) I have never had a sliding phones slider last 2 years...most don't make it 8 or 9 months.
B) Most of the hard cases make the phone harder to open, but that's because they scratch the crap out of the keyboard in the process.
2 year former owner of a touch pro 1. And I say no way on the case. Keyboard on my tp lasted me 2 years before it went all limp, sticky, and broken on me. I had a case for about 3 months. Yeah, ... It was after that the keyboard finally died

I bought 3 different cases for the epic. I got the seidio innocase and 2 other cheap cases from ebay. I can say for sure that the seidio innocase does NOT scratch your keyboard it is very thin and I love it. Now for the other 2 cheap cases, one is very similar to the seidio case and I would recommend it if your in a budget (got it for $5). the second cheap one I would not recommend. I will be making a quick review of the 3 with pictures comparing them, stand by for an hour or two and I will link.
I was unable to post my review because I am too new to post outside links (to photobucket) so I guess I need to make more posts or have a mod verify me.

Forget what anyone tells you. You want the screen protectors available on eBay from the seller dcmugen88. I have no affiliation with the guy, but his product is ridiculously high quality, perfect fit, AND he sells a 4-5 pack for $2-3! I've bought from him three times now... twice for my N1 (the protectors last a few months at a time easy, but I wanted extras) and once for my GF's G2.
It's a static screen protector with a mild adhesive, and no wet install.... just peel and stick following the directions.
Here's the link to his eBay page and store... he's in Hong Kong though, so b/c of the Chinese New Year, he's not selling anything for another week or so.

This is the truth, i get all my screen from this guy for years now. I used the anti glare version and its bloody marvelous, dcmugen is the king of internet screen protectors, thank god too cause all his **** is like 5 dollars for a pack of 8 lol
I have used bestskinsever.com which is similar to InvisiShield. After a year or so it started to peel and get gunk it in the corners. It add's a nice grip however.

I'm not sure what's happening to dcmugen; they don't have anything for sell now. They seem to suffer some quality issue as well.
I've bought from them for 4 different phones, 3 of them were perfect cut (Omnia 2, htc Magic & Nexus One), but the last one (Desire Z) was just terrible. The screen protector size is "a lot" smaller than the screen, approx 3~4mm shorter and 1mm narrower. Then I read his feedbacks and found other people having similar issues.
Not sure if they are trying to cut corners or what. Hopefully they'll come back with better products.
In the meanwhile, can anyone recommend an alternative to dcmugen? Thanks.
Just fyi, dcmugen never sells thing this time of year..he takes a couple weeks off for Chinese new year. Wish I could recommend something else, but if you have a nexus one, this is the best there is IMO.

Hi all -
when I bought my Fascinate, I got the VZW holster/case combo. Unfortunately, I've gone through 3 of them because the belt clip breaks. The last time I went into the VZW store, they said they wouldn't do another replacement, so I'm looking for a good replacement. Suggestions?
Never buy anything from verizon but phones...there are a lot of solid holsters from official Samsung accessories, so look for the model you like, and go search for the same but cheaper one on Amazon or eBay.

no luck on Samsung's site....what's the general consensus about Seidio or OtterBox? Are they THAT much more robust than the competitor products? Specifically, how solid are the belt clips? I don't mind spending $50 once, but having the thing break after 2-3 months is a no-go!
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/hlssfasas.htm
Thanks Nunyazz....any comment on the questions I posed?
I've had that holster since they began offering it. It fits very snug and is very slim fitting. Fits very close to your side and rotates if needed. I love it. I had the "naked" holsters from them for the past 4 or 5 phones that I've owned.
Picked up a Seidio from Best Buy on Friday...we'll see how it holds up!
Thanks for the feedback guys
Does anyone know if theres an outward facing holster?
I just posted on this in the bike mount mod thread in the same forums:
I use the Otter Box defender case/clip combo. The clip can be used either way, with the screen facing in (very protected) or with it facing out(to use like a dock). On top of that the clip piece locks into full open position, allowing you to use it as a stand. Handy if you want to sit on the desk and have it maintain orientation, and also when using an alarm clock.
The case itself is also pretty resilient. I work for GeekSquad, and after hours one night I literally threw my phone across the 20,000sqft store to see how the case would hold up. No damages at all. Brilliant.
Another cool feature is the non slip silicone outer layer. When I am rolling around in my Jeep, I can plug the phone into my audio aux in, and throw it onto a seat or the center console, and it never slips around.
I know I probably sound like a crazed fanboy, but I am very impressed with the case/clip and have had it for about a month.
I would post a link but apparently I cannot until I make eight posts. Google Otterbox, their site is easy enough to navigate.

I bought mine from Amazon. Very nice and sturdy, and only cost me $8. The brand escapes my mind right now, but just search Fascinate Holster and it's like the first or second one on the list.

I've purchased 4 of these for the 4 Fascinates my family and I have. They are great and we have no complaints. My son it pretty rough on his stuff and it has held up thus far. We got them in November.
I find it easy to slide thee phone in and out of, and it give the phone a bit more bulk and texture.
Look up the "Superior OEM for Samsung i500 Fascinate Shell Holster Combo Pack" on Amazon. This forum will not let me post a link for some reason. They are less than $10.

That's the one I have. I've had it for a few months now and I love it. Couldn't stand putting my phone in my pocket, I had to have the holster.
Had the OEM one for a year now and just a about 2 months ago busted the clip off, but i can still snap it back together, which has gotten be this far but the silly thing keep snapping off at the slightest touch...
will have to try out that naked carrier next
tried a little while carrying the phone in my pocket, fits nicely into the carpenter pants slot on the right leg side, but not so nice in any other pocket
I use a Comp-Tac M-TAC holster for my daily carry... oh wait, you mean phone?

Anyone familiar with how long it takes generic/china manufacturers to release cases for new phones? I know we got the S-line but it seems like that is all they are making right now. Poetic's atmosphere is similar but in case there are few color varieties I want one of these
I waiting also for something like this. I'm guessing another week or two before more cases come out. Its hard to tell.

I don't have a link but it is already available, personally I dislike that case for 2 reasons 1) too slick it wants to slide out of your hand 2) the TPU bumper part will come apart from the hard back in a few months, you CAN glue it back with super glue though.
Dear XDA,*
For the past three years, I've been personally opposed to cases for cell phones. It just seems like too much bulk for comfort, especially with today's crop of slim and sleek phones. In that time frame I've carried an iPhone 3GS, Garminfone, MT3GS, and since May a MT4GS.
But now I'm on my third digitizer for the MT4GS and I'm really starting to think that I might need some sort of protection for the phone. I picked up a hard cover from Amazon, but I don't like the extra bulk in my pocket, I worry about the potential for damage to the slide mechanism and unless I'm constantly removing the phone from the case my HTC Car Dock is useless. I also picked up a SkinGuardz skin from Amazon, but it doesn't protect the sides of the phone. Now I'm considering a Skinomi skin.
What should I do, man up and live with the case, go for the second skin or just stop dropping the stupid phone?
Signed,
Butter Fingers
*A Dear Abby homage
Safest thing is that case tbh. But on my old slider phone (and 2 others phones) the case caused to much of a gap between the KB slider and the lcd display which in turn stressed our flex cables and made them go bad. So now one of 3 phones only works with the KB lid closed. I know flex cables go out on sliders but 3 sliders with the same case suffering the same exact symptoms isn't coincidence to me.
Whatever it may be I might be picking up a case IF my doubleshot wasn't stolen out my mailbox. Which I feel it was, and if that happened I won't needs a case at all. And ill have to leave you guys very soon. But that's another day another post let's hope.

I found the mt4gs cases to be lacking as well.
Here is my solution:
TPU case for Samsung Galaxy Axiom (can't post ebay link just search)
then modify the holes with my dremel to match mt4gs.
All I wanted was a TPU case that would fit the phone. I didn't need the keyboard, I just wanted protection to stop the battery and case from popping out everytime the phone hit the ground.
I'm thinking of replacing my current Samsung Book Cover case with the Otterbox Defender series case on my Note 8. My experience with the Defender series is great, it's a great case on smaller devices but I want to know what it's like on this device. This particular case has a built-in hinge, sleeve, and screen protector. If anybody is using/has used this case, please let me know how it is.
Here's a link: http://www.otterbox.com/Galaxy-Note-8-Defender-Series-Case/sam2-galaxy-note-8,default,pd.html?dwvar_sam2-galaxy-note-8_color=20&start=2&cgid=samsung-galaxy-note-8-cases
Best investments I made for my Note 2.0 and my Note 8.0. I got the glacier color to match my phone case. The protector sleeve is actually pretty nice. Sorry I am at work and can't post photos. When the tablet is in my day bag and with the protector over the screen I am 100% sure that nothing witll happen to the screen. The hinge is actually in the "sleeve" and allows the tablet to be stood up straight or at an angle for whatever view you prefer. Someone mentioned that there is no SD card accedd but I bought the Samsung USB adapter that plugs into the power cord slot and I run my 1 TB Passport external drive off that to watch movies, view and save documents and even listen to over 10000 songs I have saved on it. Only down side to that accessory is that it SUCKS the battery life. If I could find a splitter where it is charging and using the TB drive I will be set. The case is a lil wider than the Gumdrop and a few ounces heavier but its not too noticeable.Other than not being waterpoof this is by far the most protective case out there for the Note 8.0. I went from the Samsung "book" cover type, then bought the Gumdrop case thinking that was the best one out there but if I would have just waited about 3 weeks I could have saved $65 but oh well. So if anyone wants either one I will sell them dirt cheap. I would say buy it because you will not be disappointed.
Cheers
I just received my OBD today! I was so excited to get it installed onto my 8...the thing is like a virtual tank now!
Had official bookcover on it previously. I would have never bought one but it was a freebie with my purchase. I liked how the cover sort of flipped over onto the screen, almost like it was magnetized. I never used it as a stand because I read that it make them not lie flat anymore. Also like the on/off feature, to which I am accustomed on my Note 2 via "Smart Cover" app. However, that case felt very flimsy. The top cover would slide around on the screen when closed, and give the impression it could slip right out of your hands when carrying it. Protection from a drop? I doubt it! Liked the slim form but having children and a daily commute to and from work, throwing it in my handbag every day, or even taking it out at lunch to read or play a game...I was VERY paranoid and toted it around like a newborn!
If you don't want any added weight or girth to your tablet, then don't get the OBD. It does make it a bit bulkier, heavier, yes. But a HARD plastic screen cap that SNAPS into place when not in use? Awesome! Perfect for transporting in a bag or even just under your arm. Piece of mind, for sure. I'm not testing it out with any drops to be sure, but I'm pretty certain it would fair pretty well.
The outside rubber silicone shell was harder than I thought it would be. However, I think it seems like it would be more durable than a softer material. It's tough to disassemble, so that's also a plus that it won't just come apart on a whim. The built-in screen protector seems pretty decent. Clear as glass. It feels a bit funky with s-pen but it's not horrible. Just have to get used to it. It also seems just a tiny bit bowed (maybe it is just the one I got) so when you push down with the pen near the center you can feel it love ever so slightly towards the glass. Really, no big deal, and could just be mine. Gladly I overlook this for the extra insurance.
Love the rubberized side buttons and port covers. I think they are a definite plus to keep dust & such out. It's not waterproof but if water would get spilled nearby while sitting, or splashed from rain or whatever, it would definitely deflect some or all of it. Don't drop it in the fishtank or the toilet and you should be fine!
I'd be glad to answer any questions. I just got it today so I haven't used it too much yet, but I can tell I'm gonna love it!
Thanks for the feedback! I'm definitely going to get this case!
Awesome..!!
Well I too carry this case for my Note 8.0 and it has just made my Note a strong MACHO product....
I got this case for my Note 8 last week and I love it.
I had an Otterbox Commuter on my iPhone 4S: saved it on one occasion in particular that could have cost me a new phone. I also had the Otterbox Defender on my old iPad 2. Both the old iPhone and old iPad are still going strong for my special lady friend and look brand new thanks to Otterbox.
I now have the Otterbox Commuter on my S4, Defender on Note 8 and I'm waiting for my recently ordered iPad Mini Defender.
These are great products, especially if you are a bit rough with your stuff.

It feels....different. Not as smooth as on glass. You can definitely tell there is more "drag" as you're moving the spen across. I am not one of those super-picky people who complain about everything (lol) so it doesn't really bother me.
The thing I've noticed most about the sensitivity of the screen protector (in general) is that it makes the screen a bit less responsive. You must press a little longer (we're talking such a minute split second though, and I'm talking finger here) and more deliberately. This is caused, in my opinion, by the fact that the protector is not sucked fast to the glass underneath. I can feel mine move the tiniest bit when I press on it (because it is not adhered but simply sits on top) and that small bit d, of space between it and the screen provides a slight delay. Don't let that scare you. It's really not that bad. Of course, like I said, consider the source here (non-picky-person!!!!) I would rather have a well-protected device with a inconsequential difference in touch than a vulnerable, naked one! IMHO
Can you remove the screen protector like in other Otterbox cases?
Just got mine today. I don't think you can remove the screen without messing it up. Prepared to be told I'm wrong though.

So, after owning the Otterbox for 2 months and 9 days, both "tabs" on the side of the "sleeve" that hold the tablet on it have broke. I am by no means rough on this thing at all. Even with the tablet being in the case I am still super easy on it. Submitted an online warranty claim, Sent in a couple of pictures of the damage to Otterbox, they reviewed my claim and within 24 hours I have a replacement heading my way. So even though it broke, I am still 100% satisfied with their product and now with their warranty process. If you haven't gotten an Otterbox yet, I say get one.
Cheers

I finally received mine in the mail (1 month wait while overseas from OtterBox, BUT it was free shipping!) and I don't think I'd be happier with another brand. The rubber isn't super soft, nor does it attract lint. I don't think the rubber will stretch any time soon, it's pretty solid! Definitely happy with my purchase!
I'm moderately happy with the Defender on my Note 2 (screen protector isn't flush, rubber stretches) and an considering a Note 8. Anyone got any long term reviews on this case?
re: Defefender-Note 8
Mine has been fine, EXCEPT one of the little tabs broke off of the cover portion. Since it was less than a year, I contacted OtterBox to get a replacement. I had everything gathered beforehand...receipt, place I purchased it, etc...ended up that I didn't really need all that stuff. They just wanted pics documenting the damage, and they also asked for the batch number (probably for quality control purposes-it's imprinted in the rubber.) They sent out the replacement right away via FedEx, had it in a few days. Could not be happier with their EXCELLENT customer service. I'm sure if you did have issues, they would be able to address them with you. Oh, and the rep on the phone was super nice & VERY friendly. :good:
I have the poetic revolution and i couldnt be happier. Its just as solid as the otterbox but only 30$ usd 3 year warranty it took to days from amazon..its feels premium protects well ...
