I want to make an app that takes an audio file from the SD Card and runs it through lame encoder to compress its size.
The reason is I use ringdroid or htc ringtone trimmer a lot, I assign tones to all my friends so I know who is calling before I goto my phone, the downside is, every ringtone made with ringdroid or the likes is bout 500kb for 30sec clip.
I know from my extensive ringtone making that if done in adobe audition and resampled down to say 64kbps (vs the original 192kbps mp3 audio) the size drops down dramatically, to about 150kb.
There is nothing like this in the market, I have searched and searched, and I would love to help design, but my programming experience is limited.
Basic Program function
[Select Button] ---> opens file manager dialog box to grab mp3
[List box] -----> select preset for audio
Presets(all CBR) 32kbps Mono/Stereo
48kbps M/S
64kbps M/S
96kbps M/S
[Convert Button] ------> Sends audio file and conversion properties to lame encoder
[Pop Up Dialog]
{text box for naming} {label displaying current filesize}
[Save button] [Cancel Button]

I have MP3 songs loaded to my Mogul/Titan. I have managed to get them as ringtones, but on most of them I really need to start the ringtone about 20-35 seconds into the song since the beginnings are not loud enough to be recognizable.
What is the easiest way for me to edit out the first bit and resave it for the ringtone?
Sorry, probably a newbie question ~ but this is my 3rd generation of PPC, honest!
You can do that with Media Coder, doing a MP3 -> MP3 conversion with some of your own clipping
or you can do a MP3 -> WAV and clip it mix it in the Windows Sound Recorder then convert it back to MP3
See, I knew it was a newbie Q because that is all Dutch to me!
tons of progs that does that but for windows

dbPowerAmp music converter to change the quality
This must be such a 'native' player which stays in pause when user of device answers on incoming or make outgoing call.
It must play *.APE and *.FLAC and has simple interface:
playlist + buttons "Play", "pause", "skip forward", "skip backward", "shuffle" and "repeat all/current" + position of playing of current track with possibility of rewind + volume control.
That's all
Who dares?
if you check the Hero app section there is an app there that may fit your needs.
I've use that player. The 'rooted' device is NECESSARY - it's may be difficulty for ordinary users. This player plays track with the same volume in any ways of use of the device.
I'll try to tell my wishes to the author of that player but i'm not sure that it's possible because the player is JAVA application.
Thanks for advise - player is on support.

CyanogenMod will play FLAC files natively.
There is a default setting ringtone in my LGO3D. How to change customize that to use my own mp3 as a ringtone? Is it possible to set individual ringtone for each contact?
Thanks.
custom ringtones
I created a directory in mnt / sdcard that I named it audio, then I created ringtones directory in it, I put mp3 files there and then reset the phone, mp3 files appeared in a selection of tones
I manage to make it appear in my ringtone selection by placing the audio files in sdcard/media/ringtones. But now it make the audio not appear in music player. Default music player require it to be placed in sdcard/media/music folder.
Is there a way to make the ringtone files able to be browse and select? Any app recomendation? I tried ringo. But the audio files need to be places specific in the sdcard/media/ringtones.
I go into my music press and hold an mp3 song you want at it says use as ringtone
dno if that helps
this works
look on the market for "ringtone maker" it is free and you browse for a song on your library and then crop it and you can either set it is notification ringtone or default call tone
As for the contact assignment i have not tried this but just had a quick look in my contacts and i cant see an option for it.
Ringdroid
I use and enjoy Ringdroid.
Ok, found that ringo pro can do the trick. I hope there is a free way.
I have been using a new feature of the neutron music player that I wanted to point out to anyone interested. The player has the ability to volume normalize (like replay gain) but can do any type of encoding, aac, mp3 ogg, wma. In addition it takes into account the equalizer setting you have chosen for that album. I had been searching for this feature for many years and attempted to use mp3 gain on a PC to do this but that does not work with wma/aac/ogg files. I tested with some tracks that were ripped at very different volume outputs and indeed neutron handled the normalization well.
Here is the link to the description:
http://neutronmp.com/component/content/article/78-neutronmp/features/75-feature-normalization.html
Instructions on how to do this in the software are in the neutron forum discussions.
Hope this helps anyone who is tired of constantly adjusting the volume to keep a given desired volume (or not blowing out your eardrums if you listen at the high level edge as I do)
