A stand alone equalizer. It works by default for all sound and can be disabled, if desired. This version allows independent equalizer for the headphone, speaker, and bluetooth. (New GB apk version contains additional settings.) I am not the DSP Manager dev…just making it available for those whose ROM doesn't include and would like to try and see if it works for them.
Should work on many ROMs and newer phones. You must be Rooted…Make a Nand Backup…I’m not responsible for problems...YMMV
For Froyo: Flash zip file like ROM, kernel, theme, etc. The proper Froyo library files will be added along with the app. Suggest you wipe cache and dalvik cache. If you have an older version in my test it appears you can flash over it and it will overwrite older files and update it. As always recommend NAND backup first.
For Gingerbread: Install apk file. Newer Android GB ROMs (appears to work up through GB 2.3.5) are no longer dependent on audio library files to be added to get DSP working. You should be able to just install a DSP apk to get it working. I've attached an apk. Do Not Use the Zip...that's for Froyo ONLY. As always recommend NAND backup first.

i dont think for my kind of usage an equalizer will make much difference...BUT, i'm interested in being able to raise the volume of the speaker...is that something I can get done with this app? and if so, can the volume really be increased any noticeable amount without risking damaging the speaker?
thanks in advance!
gonna give it a whirl on a few different sound systems, never use headphones though so don't know how helpful this will be.

Is there a newer version that works over Bluetooth?
yes actually if you check out Vaelpak it has been using this in the last few updates before it showed up in EVIO 1.3. so if you are looking for it w/bluetooth its in that rom. try it out or at least thats were a newer version is available

You could raise the gain to increase "apparent" volume but with these tiny speakers probably shouldn't do too much.

Since you know how to do this stuff with ROM building you may want to go to devs site http://bel.fi/~alankila/android-dsp/ and get newest source http://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_DSPManager. That even includes equalizer for bluetooth devices. If you do and could create a flashable zip with the newest version sure would like to have to post here for others to use as a stand alone.
Jim
Thanks for submitting.
Installed and working fine on headset...will try out speaker when I get out of the library.
In the meantime...how can I uninstall this? After flashing it pandora force closes and won't open at all. Need to uninstall to diagnose what is causing the problem...

Welcome to AwesomeRom!
This is my first rom on xda.
enjoy
v.1-Warm edition: a fantastic romp in the woods. this version includes a variety of images and theme files from Myn's Warm 2.2 rom for the HTC Evo.
v.2-Same as v.1 with a few behind the scenes elements. now incorporates bcnice20's 1.51 OC_UV kernel. system apps and frameworks have been zip aligned and png optimized to reduce roughly 5-6 megs. this allows for faster boot and load times, as well as allowing for smaller memory footprints. optional apps have been moved to SDCard for your installing pleasure. just use file explorer to install.
v.2.2- Same as v.1 and v.2 but with a few implemented fixes. Htc_ime should no longer continuously force close. changed system fonts to look a little bit smoother. changed a few misc image files to look a little bit smoother. Added a second option for everyone who doesnt want to use sense. Boot audio has been removed. Charging animation has been fixed. now more accurate
ReduxV1-fixed somethings, updated some images, busybox symlinked correctly, new bootanimation. other changes done, but its 331am and im still not feeling well. Images removed. Posting Updated Images Later.
ReduxV2-Fixed more things. restored old boot animation. updated some apps. updated visual voicemail (may get stuck "verifying account information" just hit the back button to make it shutup). couple of other odds and ends.
Triphoria-alot of changes. mostly to note: theme changes. phone boots with govenor on concervative 246mhz-1.3ghz by default. no need for setcpu. most sense artifacts have been removed. more updated list soon to come...
dont install setcpu or anything else unless you want to change the clock speed. its set to 246mhz-1.3ghz with a conservative governor on boot. enjoy

TurboniumX Inspire Audio Fix
Confirmed working! Returns tinny audio to stock quality.
I have only tested with CM7, however it has been reported to work on other ROMs. Please make a backup before attempting this.
I've attached a ZIP that can be flashed from ClockworkMod. All you need to do is take a backup, then flash the ZIP. If it works for you, feel free to buy me a beer!
Original post follows:
I think I may have fixed the tinny sound issue on my Inspire (at least it sounds good to me now). I need someone else to test it though since I only have the one device and only a few people willing to talk to me 10 times in a row. Don't get your hopes up!
In the /system/etc/soundimage directory on a stock ROM there are several files that end in "_MCLK.txt". I pushed these files with adb to /system/etc/soundimage on my Inspire 4G running CM7 nightly build 8 with the Inspire kernel provided over at CM's site. I used Stock_Inspire4G_Rooted_r34p3rex_v01.zip as my "stock ROM".
Then I copied the /system/etc/CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt file from the stock ROM to my device and overwrote the /system/etc/CodecDSPID.txt file. Reboot and it appears to have eliminated the tinny sound for me.
Can someone test this and see if it fixes the issue for you? You'll need to get the files from a stock ROM since I can't post download links yet. Here are some instructions:
Make sure the phone is in USB Debug Mode.
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system
adb push Sound_Bass_Booster_MCLK.txt /system/etc/soundimage/
{repeat above line for each file that starts with 'Sound', should be 27 of them}
adb push CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt /system/etc/
adb shell mv /system/etc/CodecDSPID.txt /system/etc/CodecDSPID.orig
adb shell mv /system/etc/CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt /system/etc/CodecDSPID.txt
Then reboot.

Hi,
Just one question for clarification.
This fixes issues caused by using Custom ROMs?
What about the low sound volume in general on untouched Inspire 4G?

I think it fixes at least the tinny sound during phone calls. I couldn't tell you about low sound volume, I never noticed it before.
The below is all fixed in the ZIP in the OP. Disregard.
I had an interesting problem with my method in the OP. After renaming CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt to CodecDSPID.txt and rebooting, there would be no sound from any application except the phone until after placing a phone call. The phone call sounded great, and then the other sound apps would work fine.
I did some more digging and it looks like the following change is needed to the CodecDSPID_MCLK.txt before renaming it. Add the following line to the bottom of the file:
Code:
Recording,/system/etc/soundimage/Sound_Original_MCLK.txt
After this, sound seems to work immediately after reboot. I've checked it two or three times now and it still seems to sound great. Phone calls sound like stock now IMO.

I can vouch for the call quality. It's back up to stock quality again!
And, in general, the audio quality for system alerts is the same as stock, although this wasn't that bad in the first place.
Anyone else want to try and post results?
Nandroid backup first through Clockwork Recovery, just to be safe. I did.
By the way, tested with CM7 Nightly #8, with the kernel from CyanogenMod forum.

I thought Android Revolution didn't have the tinny sound problem because it was based on the stock ROM? In any case, you can try it -- I doubt it will cause problems but I'd take a backup using your favorite tool beforehand just in case!

NO. NEVER. If you want to know why, ask the Chinese authors of this ROM.
ROOT APPS NOT WORKING:
Make sure you have enabled root access in the settings of the Superuser app!
HINT: Look in the "Tools" folder.
A note on the built-in SMS splitting: I don't trust it. In my short testing, with the counter setting (e.g., the "(1/2), (2/2)" stuff) turned on, receiving the messages was inconsistent with version 1.7.22. Turning the counter off seemed to produce more consistent working behavior. With version 1.7.29, the multiple messages would send, but the phone will still report errors with sending. Personally, I'll still use Handcent.

All I can say is this. I used 1.26 on EG22, because the new one wasn't out, and the whole time I used EG22 the only problem I had was with the Browser. Maybe I didn't have problems or maybe I didn't notice any issues or maybe I didn't use it enough to get any issues. With that being said, I still want to work off of the latest version which I know at the very least fixes the browser. If the framework is messed up enough to hose the browser than who knows what else is going on.

I really like the rom, i hope it really fix my wifi. Downloading right now.
Did you say wifi is working? Looks like I'm going to be downloading this in a short time. And modding the status bar hopefully
Edit: or is that only the stock version that has wifi available?

wifi is NOT working.
I've heard say of a wifi-functional ROM. Is that confirmed by the great austrie? Is this going to integrate properly with this ROM soon?

We have two different definitions of 'soon'.... but i'm working on this ROM every evening.
In do time no rush guy. I'd rather you take as much time in the world. Perfection takes time which we all have. I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work.

whats the pwnyourrace? I did install via cwm with no problem, it is really fast (2650 on quad) wifi works fine. Really smooth, front camera is working. Only found little lag on gps and mm messages are not workong. GREAT WORK!

The pwnyourrace version is just the download link that was quoted in flashing instructions. Messaging works for me, soooooo
I've found MMS to rarely work on VM regardless. Tried sending an MMS to yourself, while on 3G (not WiFi)?
MMS always works unless using a bad 3rd-party app; also gonna upload a gingerbread THEME of Princely ROM.
Princely ROM V2.7 is out with multiple Themes!!!
If PunkROM continues to evolve, I may stick to your Gingerbread theme just to call things even. Although personally I'm starting to like the variation of all the stuff you're making. Especially now that we're past just the original one
Need screenshots though!
Edit: Is there a way to keep data from getting removed? I know your solution is an all-in-one but I'm really lazy
Well you can skip the wipe factory data part, but it you may get force closes later on....
Edit: Need screenshots I know... I need someone to do it for me till I get adb reinstalled.....

I flashed three of your ROMs in quick succession (just by, well... flashing them.) No FC's except on the Activate app.
Try the app just labeled "screenshot" in the market? It's either by gik or KastorSoft, I forget which. Comes with a shake-to-take feature and supports only rooted phones. (Edit: Found it. http://www.appbrain.com/app/screenshot/com.geeksoft.screenshot )
I would critique/review harder, except I lost the screenshots I took too D:
If you flash the without even formatting system, not good, formatting system is big step.
Is the MMS working now?
Im trying to download but my computer doesnt work and it won't let me download from my phone.
Yes it is.
