[Q] Newbie with new SD Card

Hi Guys
Well I successfully rooted and isntalled a new ROM thanks to thehelpful members on this site and the guides.
I have now purchased a 32GB Micro SD to replace the 4GB in the Desire.
My question is, how do I copy the old stuff to the new card? Just copy and paste or are there hidden files etc which will require a clone?
Will all my apps work as before after changing the card?
Hope to hear back from you soon
Fat32 or NTFS?
thanks for the feedback, will try this when I get home.
Wasnt aware of the fake cards on eBay till I bought one and eBay canceled the auction!
I have purchased this from Amazon, class 4 32Gb for £40, hope its a real one.
Thanks again
ok another stupid question.
If windoes cant see the drive, how do I get 4gb of data from my old card to my new card as I cant put them both in my phone at the same time??
So just to clarify
To install a new memory card:-
I need to install Android SDK
I also need Java SDK to run Android SDK
I then need ADB to run commands to access the android
and then something called Cyanogen?
damn windows is so eay compared to this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So now I have to get a new pc or partition this one to dual boot to enable me to run an OS I have never used in my life?
Is this really the only way to copy 2.5gb of files from one card to another?
1. Just do a nandroid + ext backup
2. Copy all files from SD to PC
3. Insert new card
4. Copy all files from PC to new card through recovery
5. Do a nand restore
Done.

Cheers for that, I have checked the nadroid back up docs and it says
"By fully back up, I don’t mean backing up just your address book or your emails, or your dog. I mean EVERYTHING that resides on your phone with the exception of the SD card"
So I can backup everything except my card which is what I wanted to back up in the first place?
Cant seem to find a way to back up the SD card to the PC to install a new SD card and restore from the pc
tried to create partition FAIL
tried to create partion in windows FAIL
tried to load with ROM manager get E: e signature verification failed
So am I to assume my brand new 32gb card is FUBAR?
Im a little confused on how to change SD Cards too.
My partner has a Legend with only 2gig card, will swap this for a 4gig SD Card.
Can I just exchange cards in the phone, format new card in phone and then copy all files from old card to new with my windows PC?
If the mobile creates the file system structure on the SD Card and I copy the files over to it is that fine?
Thanks

Does anyone have the definitive answer on this please?
Even with copy and paste on the new card, you copy 3.6gb to the pc and then 400mb goes back the other way, all folders are EMPTY

Switching Micro SD Cards

I currently have a 16GB card which I used to install the fireware and Rom for my phone. If I switch to a 32GB card, would I need to go through the same process of installing my fireware and Rom or are these saved on the system memory?
Nope, no need to reinstall anything.
Think of the phone like an old PC. The SD card is just the 3.5 inch floppy disk. You can take it out but the computer still runs on the hard drive.
What you'll want to do is hook the phone up to your computer first, copy the entire contents of the SD card to a folder on your computer, then change to the new 32 GB card, then copy everything back to the new card.
The phone and your apps won't know that anything changed (other than seeing 16GB of extra free space)
Everything else will work fine. Your apps will find all your data in the right spots.
Unless you use app 2 sd

[Q] New SD card

I've just bought a new 32GB SD card and I need to put it in my phone. Now my phone isn't rooted so what's the best way to make sure all my apps/games that are installed on my old memory card can be backed up and transferred to the new one? Or will I have to sit and install everything again?
Thank you
If you have enough space on your device just move all your apps back to the device. Then make a copy of your SD card and past that copy to your new SD card. Then put the new SD card in your device and move all the apps back to the SD card.
Naa I don't have anywhere close to enough space on phone memory..
I'd suggest the following.
A simple copy should work. A card reader will help.
1. Take the old card out of your phone, put the new card in and let the phone format/delete/prepare it.
2. Change cards back, plug in the data cable and connect it to your computer. Open explorer or some other file manager and copy the content of your old card to a temporary directory.
3. Changing cards again. The content of the temp directory can now be copied onto the new card.
If I remember right, this way it worked for me.

[Q] SD Card? where do i find it on my samsung phone?

Hello!
Can someone please help me identify SD Card on Samsung Nexus S I9020a. Where can i find it on my phone? I don't see it in any of my folders .. what is it referring to?
Thank you

Or you could to mnt/sdcard
The Nexus S doesn't have a removable SD card
Edit: wasn't sure if you're talking about the SD card folder or the actual SD card.

then why do they call it sd card and not internal card? i do realize they dont have a removable sd card but they should just callit i-storage for internal storage.... i say we at xda should come up with a mod to allow an sd card to be installed onto the nexus s series.... and also we should mod it to allow lte as well....

Since we are at it, let's add some wheels and a rocket engine and drive it around.
And it's called SD card cause physically it's an SD card, just not removable.
I was reading the forum on how to roll back to Gingerbread from ICS 4.0.4, and everyone is talk about SD card. got confused because when you say SD CARD usually it means the removable one.
Just recently updated to ICS 4.0.4 on my Google Nexus S, cant find the files folder on my phone and also dont know how can i install and app from my computer and then onto the phone, because lot ppl have posted links for good apps. I've saved them on my computer but how do i get them onto my phone.
Thanks for the previous replies!!
You might want to google some explanations to help you get started. Here are a couple to help you:

Yeah our Nexus S don't have removable storage (sadface) lol. To install the apks(apps) you have on your computer just connect your phone to the computer, copy your apps from your computer to ANY folder you see in the phone(your phone should be connected to the com.). Now download any file manager from the play store and go to the folder you placed the apk in and click on that apk. It should ask you if you want to install an app now. That's it I think
Again I'm not sure if that's what you're asking for but I think that's what you meant right?

[q] copying files from old sd card to new one.

Please could someone tell me which files i would need to copy across to from current sd card running in sensation xe over to new SD Card to keep system running correctly. So that i can format the old car and make sure i have the updated new files without clutter on new SD card.

Hi,
Copy the whole card over to your PC/laptop (using ctrl+a and ctrl+c )
Then,format your card to FAT32 .
Put back the files you want(music, pix, backups, docs, etc.)
Then put your card back in your phone.
Android will put back the files/folders it needs, and you are good to go.
If you did forget anything, you should still have a copy of it on your PC/laptop.
Yep, that's the best method. You don't need an adapter, either - just plug your phone into your computer via USB and mount 'as disk drive' and you're good to go.
