As the title states, I am a super noob when it comes to rooting, and I've been trying to root my Motorola Cliq. I've been nearly bricked, so I've decided I'd ask around instead of trying to figure it out myself. Before I ask my questions, here's the facts:
SYSTEM VERSION: Blur_Version.1.3.20.MB200.Orange.en.FR
(The thing is, I live in and purchased the phone from T-Mobile in USA. I think I may have loaded a ROM or something that was for the FR version of the phone
It runs too slow, and main reason for rooting is to increase performance speed and whatever other perks come with rooting are certainly welcome.
Questions:
What is the easiest way to root my phone?
How can I check whether or not my phone was successfully rooted?
After rooting, what is the best, most functional, and most stable ROM I can apply to my phone, without losing too many features?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it!

Hi, been reading here for ages, but n00b videos and such have stopped me joining, but now I feel confident enough to move up to a custom ROM with instructions I'm able to follow.
I have a Galaxy S currently running JVQ Europe, although I'm in Australia.
I'd like to use MilkyS MOD but have a question or two first.
Will this go on JVQ?
Lagfix: Am I right in assuming that if I haven't added this, it's not there?
You talk of two versions, Odin and CWN, would one be easier for me than the other?
Please be patient with an old man. I did manage to root this phone when I upgraded 2.2 with 2.3.4 JVP, then JVQ, and I managed to get them on OK, I also changed the region code to Europe ..... but that's the extent of my "knowledge".
As far as I know, although I rooted JVP, I haven't rooted JVQ, so my phone isn't rooted, does this mod root, or need rooting first?
Thanks, Billy
if you post in the galaxy s forum, im sure you will get an answer
Hi everybody,
I'm planning to buy a use Droid Mini but was wondering if it is actually worth it, considering the posts here about the effort involved in rooting/unlocking the bootloader/custom rom etc.
I'd be much grateful if someone could advice on the below
- If I were to get something on a version less than 4.4.4, then I'm assuming I can root/unlock bootloader. Can install a 5.x based ROM?
- Is the alternate way to achieve root, apart from SunShine? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45598648
- If the above is done, does it stay that way even if we upgrade to a 5.x ROM (assuming it is possible)?
Thanks much
I apologize if this has been poster and answered somewhere already. I've been searching for forums related to the S5 active and haven't had much luck.
I have rooted phones and tablets before, must recently my Tab S, so I'm not new to the root process.
I guess my first question is, would you recommend rooting this phone? And if so, what method would you suggest?
My next question is, what if any good custom roms are out there for this phone?
Thanks

It's all down to choice. If you're happy voiding the warranty on your device (Most people are here at XDA) to get more customisation and features then by all means go ahead and root. The guide here should help you obtain root on your device as it is for all variants of the S5.
As for ROMS for the S5 Active I would recommend looking at the S5 Unified development category and also keep searching on Google as since it is a "special edition" phone (By that I mean not the main device of the lineup) it will take longer for custom ROMs to be developed.

Thanks for the response! Voiding the warranty doesn't bother me, I was just unsure about the limited info I was finding. But now that I know where to look, I have everything I need. Thanks for the help!
If u wanna get most out of your phone than root is the first step to it. Otherwi se learn to be satisfied with the present performance of the phone.
Root it so that you'll be able to increase you devices performance. And for the custom roms, maybe try cyanogenmod.
Hello, i decided it was time to root my 16gb D802 G2. i am newly registered though i have been reading the forums regularly and even have stock rooted my phone because lg being lg. Despite that, i was at complete loss when i head down custom roms and i dont know where subforum ask about the "best" lp rom for my phone.
So i wonder if maybe you could point me to where i can find terminologies and in which subforum i should post my previous question.
Also as far as i know there is no way to brick your phone without a way to recover, still if there is an irrecoverable brick it would be nice to know more about it. Thx for your time
Hello there, thank you for using XDA Assist.
HERE is a list of terminology and all you need to know about root and android words. HERE is your rooting guide for your device, or basically a compilation of youtube videos to root any variant of your phone. and HERE is where you usually ask your device related questions.
Hope i helped! Happy rooting!
Hi
I just purchased a brand new G930A, at a very good price I might add, and got it running on T Mobile. The firmware is old (6.0.1) and has had no security updates in a while. No updates seem to be available from ATT. I would like to root it and update everything to T Mobile (7.x.x) standard. I am not really looking for a custom rom unless there is a real benefit. Can someone direct me to a good, tried and true, step by step method for getting this done? All the way from unlocking, and rooting to flashing a rom. Just Foolproof is good enough, it doesn't need to be Damn Foolproof. Last phone I rooted (Droid Maxx) was about 5 years ago so I need some re-education. A link to a good thread would really help.
Thanks
John
