Hints / Limitations:
* HTC Desire with stock ROM - how to fix LED blinking (let us know if it works for other phones with similar problem)
- On stock ROM, LED blinking will stop in about 5 mins after text message arrives. To workaround that we have added refresh during reminders. Simply, set reminders to a period of 5 mins to keep the led on. Btw, you can have reminders 'on' without need to set further Sound, Vibration, Turn on Display.
* LED colors / LED blink rate
- Your phone / rom needs to support that in a way it's accessible via standard Android API (android.app.Notification), otherwise the options won't work for you.
- We know that other programs may use some sort of workarounds and other tricks, but currently we don't have any plans to implement that.
* On-screen message visible when the phone is locked (in a sleep mode).
- Currently, not possible. To introduce that, it would mean to play with the Keyguard functionality in Android API which we are not sure we wanna do. Maybe in the future ... on TODO list.
- You could maybe try some other 3rd party apps which implements their own lock screen. Let us know here if you find something which works together with SMS Notifier.
From v1.5:
*NEW* The most wanted functions are here - Quick reply, Delete, Mark as read right from interactive popup

*NEW* click on the picture in interactive popup allows to call the sender
*NEW* possibility to change text color for popup

Nice little app that I would theme immediatelly !
Would be nice to have it in Android style..why using different icons? So it fits better..and missing the smilies
For example, I use only froyos default sms app and would like to use kind of a pop up plugin that fits and does not look like a different sms app.
greets
Edit: just did a quick edit...think I will keep this app now, looks like buid in..
I am curios how you gonna continue with this app..looking forward!!!

Hi rori,
Glad you like it.
I think we can add that default icon in the next update - need to double check the licensing first.
We have some plans for usability improvements and also some more eye-candy for the future releases.
Looking forward to more theming screenshots
Have a nice weekend.

And why not adding a text box that it allows us to make a reply ? Just like ChompSMS or Handcent or SMSPopup!

So far it is working great on my Samsung Moment. Thank you.

@aladin6:
There are two ways how to process an incoming message:
1) Let user just read a message (even if notification bar is not visible) with no interruption of whatever doing (watching a movie, playing a game,...).
This is implemented in SMS Notifier. We have missed this feature a lot in other sms applications and this is also one of the reasons why we have developed our own.
2) Interrupt running activity and force user to do some action ("popup").
This is considered for implementantion in the future, but it is not top priority at this moment.

Thanx!
I keep it on my phone...seriously hope you can make it froyo look.
Dont waste your time on your own UI....you just make a great app that fits to default and we have a feeling it is not a third party app, that´s all.
Dekuji moc, pozdrav!

Version 1.1 hits the market.
*FIX* audio issues (was probably bugged only on Droid and Droid X)
*NEW* option to customize background color (incl. transparency of on-screen preview)
*NEW* customizable position of on-screen preview
*NEW* added default Android notification icon
Also adding some hints to main post.

Rori, how did you get your popup to look like that?

You can change color (incl. transparency) in version 1.1
Regarding that icon in on-screen preview... wait for the next update where we will rework that part quite significantly. We believe you will like it
On another note, any Droid / X / 2 users? We're getting some strange reports regarding notification LED functionality. Could anybody with that phone(s) and using SMS Notifier describe us if it works for him as expected or what are the problems?
Basically, we are using native Android API for LED functionality and for example on HTC Desire we don't see any issues.

Superb app!! I am not sure if its a bug with HTC Desire (been using rooted stock for some time) but choosing LED color is not working

Thanks for the note. Correct. At least on Desire we don't see how to make it through Android API. Heard something about you need rooted device and work with charging LED. It's just black magic.

You gonna implement tab on notification opens sms.apk?

Android 1.6 CSDI V4 por [email protected] On a t-mobile g1
When using the test function on the app itself the notification appears.
Just not when I turn the screen of and then get an sms..
Still, A great app

Please make this an option if you go this route - I really hate having all those buttons and whatnot all over the screen. I like the idea of just a simple popup - click on it it to reply. I would like to see something like "2 other unread messages" somewhere else (if it doesn't already do this... I just installed it.)
Love the app - it just replaced SMS Popup on my EVO.
Quick question: in the OP the pop-up takes up the whole bottom third of the screen. On mine it just takes up a bit of each corner (or a bit in the center of the screen.) How do I get it to take up the whole width of the screen?

LED notification is not working, same problem I think as some other applications (like modified sms.apk from cyanogenmod)

wow this is pretty amazing. the new colors are awesome! definitely would donate!
suggestions; alternate colored notification bar icon colors (ie the ones found in Handcent), and later, i know its still only beta, email and gmail support if that would even be a possibility.
Besides those minor aesthetic opinions, it works like it says. Switch of notifications in chompsms, handcent or whatever you have including the stock app, set up the preferences in this one and it works brilliantly!
thanks for your hard work!
Works so far.
Im still unclear on the default icon in notification bar. Is it mandatory for it to appear there ?
Reason being I have handcent setup with different icons/sounds for individuals.
When a text comes in the trackball works fine but I get both the default messaging app Icon in notification bar AND handcent.
I tried turning off the default messaging but it pops up with trackball.
This is a great little app. Thanks. Do you have plans to enable it for email alerts as well?

Thanks for your kind comments.
I'm looking to implement this at a lower level than app, so we can get different notifications. Currently the system can override the trackball.
I'm open to icon/image donations (via pm please to keep the thread tidy) I'll give you credit if used.

Id much much prefer to get this working on Email /VM/Missed calls etc than worrying about aesthetics at this point.
Hace you contacted any of the rom guys to see if it can be dug into a deeper level and work in a fuller capacity ?
+1 on that- to be able to apply this across the whole rom would be fantastic.
this is awesome- i think it needs the ability to not have the icon show in status bar though due to some people (me being one) who use handcent personalised notifications.
now, where is your donate button?

I'm looking into that. The problem is the current codebase only has a method flashing the trackball white. We need to hook right into the core notification system.

I can add an option but i think you will end up with a situation where the trackball does not stop flashing. Because its my notification, when it get selected/acknowledged my Cancel "callback" method is actioned.

Hands down one of my favorite apps now. Thanks for making this. Its funny how the simple things are some of the best (colored blinking lights) lol.
the beta version is not working for me. the alpha version of trackball notification worked alright (with very few minor bugs). i turned off the notifications on messaging and popup sms and i get one white flash and nothing else. i turned off popup sms entirely and still got the same issue. im currently running cyanogen's beta4 if that matters.

Just sucks I need to be rooted .
But, besides that completely, amazing job! I was waiting for someone to do this, and you did it!!! . I will be rooting very soon, I cant be missing these 'important fixes'.
Thanks again (will donate down the road definitely)!
Are you going to implement a way to flash different colors for different contacts SMSing you? If you do this i will definitely buy you a beer!
When I recieve texts now, my notification bar shows two of the smilie face text notifications and when i pull the bar down it shows the same texts twice. Only started after I installed this.

[App] BattMonX (Droid X Battery State Monitor via LED Status)

All,
I realized after posting in the general app announcement thread that you/we Droid X users might want to be aware of this app written specifically for the Droid X (but might be useful to other phones too).
So, here's the link to the general app announcement thread and a brief summary of what this app is all about:
[App] BattMonX (Droid X Battery State Monitor via LED Status)
BattMonX is a utility for the Motorola Droid X to turn on the LED indicator light while the phone' screen is off to indicate its battery state: charged, discharging, or charged/full.
The Droid X does not currently indicate the battery charging state via the LED indicator light as other phones do.
This app is free in the Market. Search for "BattMonX".
This app is intended bridge that gap until such functionality is restored by VZW/Motorola.
QR code, screenshots, more details are in the link provided above.
Thanks and enjoy!
I missed this feature coming from my Blackberry thank you!

You are most welcome! Its been a fun project to work on. I hope to get the set-on-boot / run-on-boot thing figured-out soon. Stay tuned.
Coming from the HTC Droid Eris, I was used to this feature too.
There were lots of us on launch day that were posting as to whether anyone had a lit LED while the phone was being charged. I actually saw my LED light up (not through a text notification or anything) very briefly during the first OTA update we got, but never since then.
Anyway, glad to have finally learned enough Android programming to have made this feature available to folks. By the way, I've been keeping my discharging state LED color set to blue--looks cool .
Cheers!
nice idea but if you run a custom rom it usually adds this already without the need for another app. im running tranq and it has it

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't know this (I'm still running stock 2.2 (although rooted)).
The app development request came from someone running ApeX, so it must not be in that particular ROM yet.
I'm a little curious as to why VZW/Motorola didn't include this support natively...
Anyway, cheers!

v1.3 just uploaded: now supports set-on-boot option
Just a quick thread bump to let everyone know that I've updated the app to version 1.3 that now includes a set-on-boot / run-on-boot option.
Select this option via the menu (menu -> More -> Set on Boot -> select True or False).
Enjoy!
By the way, thanks for all of the great feedback and support from everyone--its made creating this app for everyone worthwhile. I very much appreciate it! Cheers!
version 1.4 of BattMonX just published
Version 1.4 of BattMonX has been uploaded to the Market.
Changes to this version include:
* Support of five new LED color codes (dark orange, orange, dark violet, dark green, deep sky blue)
* Support for low-battery condition indicator:
selectable low-battery percentage threshold (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%)
action to take when threshold is reached (none, LED on, LED blink)
LED color selection for low-battery condition (will take precedence over other battery states)
Hope you find this app and these changes useful. Thanks for all of the great feedback!
Cheers!
v1.6 just uploaded: now works w/SMS text notifications
All,
Just a quick thread-bump to let everyone know about the latest release of the app: version 1.6 now works with SMS text notifications!
So now, you should be able to run the app all of the time and still get notified when a text message comes in.
The timeliness of the seeing the SMS notification is still dependent on the polling interval you are using, but app steps aside when the SMS notification comes in and then resumes when its been acknowledged (by reading the text) or cleared (by the notification pull-down's Clear button).
Please note that the app doesn't actually control the color or blinking status of the SMS text notification, my app just allows it to come in and been seen--so I cannot change its color or behavior.
I also added the option / ability to make the LEDs blink (or stay on like before) for the charging / discharging / charged state like the functionality I added for the low-battery condition in v1.4.
Enjoy the app and its recent changes--I hope you find the app useful.
Also, I do very much appreciate everyone's feedback and support! Thank you!
v1.7 just uploaded to Market (very useful fixes and improvements)
version 1.7 changes include:
- added strategy to auto-recover from Android auto-killing the app's service; should make the app much more stable and without unwanted shutdowns
- replaced multiple menu settings w/standard Settings/Preferences menu item
- dynamically determine battery status directory (I did this to see if the app would work on more phones (with mixed success); should allow for users that don't see that the app was written for the Droid X to at least see if it will work on their phone (does not appear to work on a stock HTC Evo 4G, HTC Droid Eris))
- re-instituted screen lock to portrait mode to prevent orientation change from causing FCs
- fixed integer parsing issue causing some reported crashes (probably just experienced by non-Droid X phones)
- added option for 3 minute polling-interval
- added larger range for low-battery percentage threshold
- fixed issue where LED would not blink when charging
Anyway, if you have any issues, comments, questions, etc., please contact me at [email protected].
Cheers and have a great New Year!
v1.8 just published to the Market
All,
I've just published version 1.8 to the Market and updated the main thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859651) with information and screenshots... Lots of new features and improvements. Change log for 1.8 includes:
- supported new experimental features:
* ability to keep LED on while the screen is on (root only)
* support white LED color when used with the "LED is Always ON" experimental (root-only) feature/setting
- updated w/better strategy for dynamically locating battery state and LED notification files to TRY to support non-Motorola Droid phones
- added 'Suspend' feature to turn off LED and pause battery status monitoring until resumed (un-checked)
- added strategy to make app more timely/responsive to SMS text notifications and preference/setting changes
- fixed set-on-boot and charging-color preference mis-match and other minor preference/settings issues (this was causing a few folks issues...if you still have an issue, try an un-install and fresh re-install--this will clear-out the saved preferences)
- supported amber LED color in addition to the original red/green/blue LED colors (for phones that support an amber LED color)
Anyway, this version should be much more stable and responsive than the prior versions (although v1.7 was pretty solid, ).
Enjoy, and please visit https://sites.google.com/site/scaryalienware/battmonx for full details and screen shots. Shoot me an email at [email protected] for any issues, comments, questions, etc.
Cheers!
v2.2 uploaded to the Market
Uploaded version 2.2 of the app to the Market last night. Here's the highlights:
- added more strategies for making the app more responsive when screen off & unplugged (I implemented a partial wakelock for one minute after the screen is turned off and unplugged from power source)
- added 'Set LED Colors by Percent Charged' feature (i.e., you can assign a different color to each 10% range of battery percent-charged)
- added 'Rainbow Mode' (under Fun Stuff) to cycle through the various LED colors
- added 'Keep CPU On' feature to allow you keep the CPU awake/on when the screen is turned off (this is only true when monitoring is active);
*** Warning *** use of this option will consume more battery!
- added preset-color buttons to LED color tester (easier to test main colors)
Hope you enjoy this new version.
Cheers!
Notes re. other versions not previously listed:
- v1.9 was just a very minor update to not display percent signs in menu items that was causing FCs in some Milestone phones running non-stock ROMs
- v2.0 was the original release of what is now v2.2; I had to rescind v2.0 to fix a loop (and the FCs) caused when using the color none/off under certain circumstances
- v2.1 was a re-publish of v1.9 until I could fix the FC issue in v2.0
Thanks again!
v2.3 just uploaded to the Market
New version just published.
Here's the change log:
Version 2.3 - 14-Mar-2011:
- support option to display status bar notification icon with battery percent charged

- lots of app cleanup; re-organized preferences / settings menus
Check it out and let me know what you think!
Cheers!

- added new debugging feature (ability to toggle app's logging of system messages)
BattMonX v2.9 published to the Market
All,
Version 2.9 of BattMonX has been uploaded to the Market. This version includes code to auto-recognize the 1% charge_counter file used on many Motorola phones. It also addresses the product-name changes that CyanogenMod ROMs impose that kept prior versions of this app from recognizing a Moto Droid family phone and auto-identifying their battery status and LED notification files.
Donate version of this app will be uploaded shortly.
Cheers and thanks for everyone's support and kind feedback.

- turned off debug msg logging by default for fresh installs (option to enable is still present)
I'm not going to use this because I use my LED for other things, but its a great app. I tested it and it works great on my DX.

Thank you very much for the kind words!
You can still use the mode where it will just display a status bar icon with the current battery percentage (just turn off the LED notifications in the menu settings).
Cheers!

Hey guys, I have an app out called InvisiBright and I'm looking for your feedback. Here's a brief description:
Use search key hold or status bar shortcuts to activate an invisible overlay above any application. Then, simply swipe anywhere to adjust the brightness quickly. Done! It comes with other goodies like an auto-brightness toggle, a "tilt mode", and home screen shortcuts (for tablets) so....
Check it out!

Suggestions
Dan, thanks for starting the thread! Responsive Devs always get Donations
So, I was blown away to find InvisiBright. I've been using the Curvefish widget (just like, oh, everybody) and a year ago I thought it was hands-down the best. Not any more.
I was searching for something that might be integrated into the Notification Bar. Basically, just pull down the Notification Bar and there's the exact same things from the Curvefish widget; preset levels, toggle for AutoBrightness, and/or a slider.
Your app is a lot better than that. I stumbled across it from your DroidForums post.
Long Press Search should be a much more common feature, for tons of apps. Especially since it's just an option, easily changed, and SOO easy to code!
Good idea including it, and a pretty good Pro upgrade. Lite still works great, Pro is just a bit better.
Here are my suggestions, may or may not be good ideas, or even possible;
Semi-transparent (with user adjustable alpha) overlay on the (right) slider side, when changing the brightness level; then you can tell which part of the screen is Adjust, and which is Confirm
Sliding level indicator, (e.g. 3-px yellow line?) to go along with the Toast of percentage (user selected option, just like the "Show percentage" option)
Preset levels, preferably user-set; possibly snap the slider to the presets. Or maybe Far Right = Slider, Middle = Preset buttons, left = confirm
Shorter Toast duration after left-touching to set the level
Confirmation that the level has been set (but this might be addressed by the disappearing of the semi-transparent slider)
Vertical/horizontal slider option
Toggle for Auto Brightness EDIT: maybe "- Quick toggle back to auto-brightness with menu key" addresses this already... I haven't tried that Pro feature yet...

By the way, you are in close competition with Brightness Rocker. It's a pretty clever alternate-use of the otherwise single purpose Vol Up/Down buttons. But you responded faster than Nikhil, and went to XDA, even! And you don't have the conflict with actually changing the Volume in order to adjust brightness. Maybe you could figure out how to intercept the Vol Up/Down keys as a different trigger, since some of us have Long Press Search mapped to Camera, Screenshot, QR Scan, etc.
Thanks again for showing interest in my app! Here's what I think:

These are all great ideas. They all slightly threaten the "invisibleness" of the overlay, but I don't see why they can't be options.

Does the XDA version hinge on only members having access to links posted? I'll consider this since I'd love to see the pro version gaining traction (whether or not I get the buck). Also, I'll try to open source it in about 1 month when the semester starts and my free time becomes non-existent
!!!
Wow! Correct answers on every single point!
A lot of XDA devs attach their .apk to a forum thread. I'm pretty sure you have to be a registered Member to download the file. Obviously, that's free and easy, but it's enough barrier that it keeps most of the riffraff out. Right off the top of my head, SetCPU is released like this, you could ask coolbho3000 about how well it works.
If/when you do Open Source it, you'll also need to have a slightly higher level for people to contribute, a $4 Donate app or something.
I can't promise that always works, but some of us will pay for good Devs to do good work.
Awesome app, works great on OG Droid running latest CM7.
Touch screen to launch...?
Other idea (I'm just throwing them out there, this one might be a lot of work)
SwipePad activates from a touch in a particular part of the screen (corner, side, etc.)
https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.conduction.swipepad.android
Maybe InvisiBright could activate the same way; an option to press and hold for a second in the lower right to launch InvisiBright. In that case, some kind of visible feedback would be more necessary.
It might end up pretty similar to the popular SGS style bar
examples:
Port the Samsung Galaxy S notification bar brightness slider

Android Hidden Shortcut: Quickly Adjust Screen Brightness From Notification Bar (Galaxy S specifically, with video)

I'm not trying to corrupt the "Invisi" nature of this fantastic app, I swear!
Notification Bar
I just noticed that you haven't overridden the Notification Bar when sliding the brightness. If my finger reaches the top of the screen and then slides back down, it will catch and pull down the Notif Bar, rather than lowering the brightness.
Not sure what the best way to address that would be...

There's a setting to adjust the buffers for touch mode. You can make the 100 percent spot far from the notification bar to avoid this issue (and your swipe will change the brightness slightly faster to compensate) . I remember adding these because I couldnt figure out how to override the notification bar without hiding it. I'll add it to my list and give it another go. Let me know if the buffers help.
Love it! I bought pro version on market. Keep up the great work.

I use swipepad and think the concept is great. I'll look into how it can be added, but for now you should be able to get a very similar effect with swipepad. Just grab the widget add-on and throw the InvisiBright pro widget onto your pad. I've never tried this, but I don't see why it wouldn't work....
Great app, best brightness control available.
For support bought the 3.0 version in the market.

Gr8 application Mate ... I use Xperia Arc .. There is no shortcut for search. Can we change the shortcut key?
I've been using this for quite a while now. Got sold by the long press search to activate option. One less toggle widget to add to my home screen. Thank you. Keep up the awesome work.
Briliant!
I'm tired of this autobrightness that makes it so dark when I drive..
Works great..
BTW, can I change the key of making it start? Perhaps short tap on search button? Because the Google voice search is common feature for me rather then the Google search which I never use..
(And it also has no use if I'm not in home screen.)
Thanks.

MinimalLock is simple concept. It has no buttons or sliders, using solely gestures to handle your music controls, sms and call notifications and of course unlocking your phone.
It can display sms or call notification in the form of a contact picture as depicted above. When a notification is tapped it can open directly to the sms thread, show a quick preview or simply dismiss it.
It also has music controls which supports a variety of music players including PowerAmp, DoubleTwist, Winamp, PlayerPro, Google Play Music, Amazon MP3, MIUI, Apollo and many more.
Feature filled and minimalistic. Simple.

HOME BUTTON does unlock the screen as many have pointed out however there is no easy way around this. I am looking into it but I'm not sure if I want to implement what is essentially a hack to prevent this. My advice to you for now is simple.. Don't press the home button

Nice work!! The lockscreen is looking good actually. I could see my battery status, time and operator name. Very nice. Love it.
Few UI improvements required,
1. Need to have help screen text.(Even I don't know how to use this. Please provide some more info regarding how to use gesture)
2. The settings screen could be improved more.
3. Could provide some option to select the features to be displayed in lock screen.
This app collides with native lock screen. Need some focus over there.
Appreciate your work
This is simply beautiful, but you might want to work on how it the music data is pulled?
On my Sony Xperia S (not necessarily sure whether or not this is related to my ROM or not) using the stock (Sony) music player, it'll come up as "Null - Null" for all my songs...
Apart from this, it's an absolute beauty to use...
Have yet to test missed calls though, but messages work perfectly.
Nice work mate. Need to work over few issues. But it's perfect looking lock screen. Back button kills lock screen. Even if I unlock the system lock is still showing.

I'll see what I can do, the issue with this is theres no official way to pull music info so it depends on the player to broadcast an intent to say if a track is playing or has changed,, I'll see if I can find one for the Sony music player.. Calls in now fixed along with a few others, I'll upload a new release later on today once I've had time to test it.

Great app. It works great and looks real good except for one thing. It does not replace my normal sense lockscreen, so I have to unlock twice. That's for the latest version, the first one does it. I'm on an unrooted HTC DHD, on gingerbread. Keep up the good work.

Ok.
Dark Theme doesn't work - having it enabled makes the lock screen appear, but it'll be completely devoid of any information that would appear if the setting was off. I.e., Time / Network appear with Dark theme OFF, don't with it ON.
Though you have fixed the null void bug, now it doesn't fetch song titles / artists at all, nor is it replaced with a placeholder text - THIS DOESN'T BOTHER ME. It adds to the minimalism of the lock screen. But if you still want, I could give you the apk / name if you so desire.
There is a buggyness with the lockscreen as a whole. I'm going to assume that its tied to the Android OS having a native setting enabled? Like, you can't have "None" as a security option and have Minimal Lockscreen just work? Because, that's what's happening to me, unfortunately. I'll have to unlock your lockscreen, then do the android OS's one; quite annoying.
*Edit* I seem to recall that the first version did this - this is probably the only gripe with the application honestly. Revert this, and you have something that's solid.
Another thing, the settings menu, though this is just me nitpicking, when I switch tabs, from settings to the "cosmetic" (for lack of a better word) tab, the screen will redraw the homescreen and flash between the selected tab and the homescreen for about 0.5ms. Similarly, I've noticed that on occasion, the lockscreen (your one) will fail to deploy, and when for example I'm going through my application drawer, the same redraw / flashing will occur.
Apart from that, it's quite good.
Maybe consider incorporating an alternative way to unlock it, or the ability to unlock from the "music" sub gesture menu? Possibly a vertical swipe? It's sorta tedious turning on your phone, double tapping, swiping till you get to a song, double tapping, then swiping again

I'm also HTC user. Got the same issue mentioned above.
1. In case of HTC, it would be nice if native lock screen is disabled. As of now, I have to unlock twice.
2. Not sure, this is related to my ROM. After swiping to unlock, there is some delay (~2sec) to launch the HTC lock screen.
3. In App settings, while switchover the tabs, have some kind of animation. It would be like to have normal transition (eg: youtube)
4. When music player is running in background, its not displayed in the lock screen(Could any other HTC users confirm?)
5. Yes, Dark theme doesn't work.
6. Contacts are not displayed in lockscreen. Does this app automatically pulls up top recent contact from contact history?
Since its beta, hope this this app would be released with stable full functional in near future.
Really it's great app. Thanks for your wonderful time in hearing the feedback from users.
Good luck dev!!

As for the contacts on the lockscreen it shows missed call or sms contacts.. not frequent contacts..
The dark theme makes the text black so if (like me) you use a dark lockscreen you won't be able to see it..
New version is up.. reverted some changes so lockscreen should now be used if you disable the native one.. couple of other changes too..

Maybe multi window could have an option in the settings menu so we could have the top and bottom app like usual, but be able to have one app extra behind the top and bottom apps and be able to swipe to flip back and forth between apps, thus having 4 apps available on multiwindow?
Music for alarm
I would love to have a support for Note 3 Like ScreenShot wherein you will select the Part of the Screen to be Freezed and Save in to Gallery!
An Object Eraser where you can Remove unwanted things from your Pics like in Micromax Canvas Turbo
On my HTC One the recent apps list is a square list of windows. It would be really cool if we could utilize more of this big screen to display the apps rather than having a horizontal list to scroll through. Imagine if the recent list was displayed in app drawer style. It would very cool and more convenient if you ask me

Swipe down on an application to put it into the bottom window
I have been playing with the idea of ungoogle my data (calendar and contacts). I have installed owncloud on my ubuntu server. It would be nice to have a native CalDav and CardDav provider included in Omni so you can sync with alternative sources.

Maybe a notification app like on LG, when gaming it just pops up when call comes in and doesnt disrupt the game, if you choose you van pick it up or not.
Or you can ignore it, change mind and ingame swipe notification down to pick up anyway, ingame.
What about something like IOS banners that when a call comes in while you're busy a banner at the top underneath the status bar comes up. Swipe to answer. Click to dismiss. Etc.
From what i know, the kernel has to be customised for every Device, because they all have different Hardware. I dont know how depending these customisations are on each other, or how deep they are coded into the source. But if that would be possible, i would think a developer repository of kernel optimisations for already known hardware would be great, so developing a built for a new device, with partly known hardware, could be much shorter.
Ability to mount Network shares into the device as an external sd-card so that apps directly can access them
how about native reverse tethering? The more aps mess with the connection, like vpn proxy firewall, the less likely it works flawless
Halo
Pie
Floating Window - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40906936&postcount=2
full animation control as well as scrolling animations
ability to have carrier shown in statusbar with the ability to have a custom carrier like in Mokee OS
full control of the launcher, or perhaps even integrated launchers that are changeable
enable and disable the navigation bar like in Slimbean and customize its colours and so forth
reduce zip file size (something similar to slimbean)
ability to move status bar to bottom of phone screen, will be helpful as screen size increases and status bar at top can be a pain sometimes when looking for notifications.
white UI
transparent keyboard
Custom statusbar colors to match app...make it intelligent enough to figure out current app values and just emulate them - extend beyond current availablilty and allow custom colors on a per-icon/clock basis.
MIUI-style theme engine, where you can fine tune elements on a per-app basis, mix-n-match, etc. Would be great if it supported current MIUI/CM themes, but with this expanded functionality. And with MIUI, you can theme anything you know the package name of and can get the resources from.
With PIE - the ability to adjust the width of the trigger area, so if, say, it's at the bottom of the screen, it's only triggered by the middle of the screen, versus taking up the entire bottom.
Native CIFS
Quiet hours
on devices with soft keys (like the ones in s3) there should be an option that would make the keys light up with the notification led.
on devices with virtual keys (Nexus devices for example) swiping from either the left or the right edge of them to the opposite edge would allow to make a cool switch between open apps and swiping up would open recents with cool animation (and the same animation would be shown when the recents key is pushed too) (just like in Chrome Beta (video) that allows to switch between tabs)
a security feature that would allow you to protect an app by showing the "com.example.example crashed" notification and making a secret gesture would open the app (like this)
possibility to copy text from anywhere like from apps like settings or Google+
How about more native google feature support? Like...the stock music player incorporates a google music library, file explorer ties to drive, gallery could use google pictures, messaging/dialer natively support voice? That would be badas$. And chromecast support if Google ever allows it.
I would like to see the hybrid engine of pa on this rom too. Or at least something like it. On big screens like on the find 5 you get better looks on some apps with an lowered dpi!
swipe left and right between open apps
window switcher like on lg g2 rom.
Easy maximizing positioning of windows
multidpi support
How about taking a page from carbon, and making it so when you're on the lockscreen and you hold down the nav ring (where the home button is normally) it turns the torch on.
small but a feature i love is screen shot trash ...when u take a screen shot and it pops up in the notification bar roms like carbon have a trash button near the share button
something ive always like but no rom have it and id had to use 3rd party apps is the battery icon horizontaly like i0s 7 with text next to it every body have circle battery and vertical bout time we have horizontal.
brightness slider.drag your finger accross the notification bar to change brightness.
background transparency in app drawer And scrollable dock icons
Voice plus from CyanogenMod. Very useful for Google voice users
How about per app color for the notification/quick toggles? Always bothered me
Also how about making the display turn more orange when it's late/dark.
Warm colors are easier on the eye in such conditions. That would be a natural development of the auto brightness - kernel so no
Backup of app data to a cloud service. Google may save your settings and re-download your apps, but it does not save your app data. - There are 3rd party apps to do that and omni will never entertain it as it can be used to steal personal data
I really would like to see that in apps like the dialer, the messaging and the people app(contacts) the user would have an opaque or blurry view of the home screen wall paper. Transparency is cool, but bluriness is better.
And it would be nice if the notification panel worked like ubunto os notification. You know, how you can slide between notification pages while scrolling it down.
And the last thing, if you could hide the permanent icons (something like the keyboard's icon or the gmd icon) from notification panel (like in MIUI).
An idea I had was to work on a "directional notification swipe"...example: you have a message....if you swipe right open message apk ready for reply...if you swipe left you just delete notification...same for recalls, maybe for facebook notifications...I don't know if is possible, but it's an idea
Ok, my feature request is simple. Just make how we can interact with our device as efficient and ergonomic as possible. Ability to operate phone by one hand etc. Probably will have different UI for tablet and phone, optimize for each device. Customize nav bar and ring targets (just swiping) are among examples,
one feature that i would like to see is the ability to completely disable the hardware key. MIUI have a feature to do this from the notification panel, but it's not permanent and resets on every boot.
http://opendesign.bbqdroid.org/ port forward the features developed here, and work on the feature requests lying pending there, most of the developers who started opendesign are on omniROM too
camera with smart capture mode like in carbon, slim and liquidsmooth
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-1122
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-1301
AirPlay
LMT like Nav-Bar (Not PIE2, more simple, and animated)
And PLEASE respect the color calibration on the N4, if anyone wants to change it, they can do it manually. Some of us actually like the Google pressets.
can you try to enable the voice call "GSM call " ? on nexus tablet specially 2013 .would be awesome if its happen and imagine how many nexus users will install this Rom
turn phone's screen on desktop to mute any sound
gamepad mode (screenoff but touch sensitive) when HDMI OUT
tablet mode on large screen
Japanese/Chinese switching system font option (avoid bad character display)
tap on right/left of device to previous/next music player
build in firewall with simple rule per application (allow/ask/block radio button maybe?)
password on selected applications startup
hidding mode on app drawer, on picture gallerie
multi-users/profiles - being Worked on
It would be nice to have some features that Samsung's touchwiz has... For instance "movements". That is, the hability to use the devices sensor to do some stuff like "flip to mute". Some preset gama settings, a battery saving mode and built-in contact white and blacklist.
I know this is possible with some apps like tasker, but wouldn't be nice for the less tech guys?
It would also be very nice if it would be possible to have a tool for choose the roms features. What is essential and what is optional.
It would be really nice to see you guys implement media control with the volume buttons when the device is locked!
swipe to delete in text message & email apps
ability to save apps on 'external' SD card - Android guys have stopped this for a reason so am guessing a no
Would love to be able to play songs like a pendrive E.g. radio usb ports.. and be able to know what's the charging current of the phone (maybe a dynamic icon for the battery at the quick setting panel. AntTek Explorer as basic explorer!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2408136
)Swipe to change b/w toggles and panel
Anything like those ubuntu status bar(wher u can swipe over icons to gain info)
A lot of guestures for accessing some features(surprise me over here )
Expandable and expanded volume adjustment window, as in CM.
Volume keys to move cursor r/l, l/r as in CM.
Camera Tile.
Hide status bar/status bar delete (for hidden status bar, there should be an option to disable 'swipe to peek' when in a fullscreen app).
All in one widget with weather, battery, clock, date, alarms set...etc.
Optional Programmed gestures to open (ribbons, app drawer, notifications, camera). Gestures are preferred to prevent accidental opening.
Swipe through open applications with multiple finger gesture.
Button control (allow more/custom actions to be programmed for long presses).
Help : There should be a searchable help because this seems like it will be loaded with features and sometimes you cant find a particular feature you want to edit. This help should be able to easily find the feature as well as a description of what it does.
I think you guys could likely optimize "Profiles" considerably with the addition of the geofence api, perhaps UI and a genetral ease of use overhaul.
A automated data migration (apps, sms etc) within the installer would be awesome
Combined Navbar with customizable buttons, and the popups for notification to display above the navbar instead of on top of it, so you can open the notification tray without having to wait 3 seconds for it to fade.
guest mode lockscreen - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46471023&postcount=78
Fully customizable nav bar like in aokp 7 soft buttons with long press features and icon customizability
Proximity sensor on during a phone call with Bluetooth hands free device connected. This way when the phone is in the pocket, no buttons get pressed accidentally during a call. I don't understand why this feature isn't on by default.
3D Mode - A mode that can be activated and that turns the whole UI (Launcher, Apps, Games,..) to Anaglyph 3D. That could be so cool if it could be done!
On lockscreen have different logins, kind of like how Windows has it, you just tap an icon and put in your password for a different user. They get their own partition with their own apps and data (have like 3 different /data partitions, might be hell to back up in TWRP).
Also have something like PGM on the Nexus 4 and GN built into the kernel and enabled as an option in the device settings.
This may or may not have been in the OP (I didn't see it) but have something like LightFlow LED built into the kernel and ROM for awesome multi-color LED notifications and settings, especially for us Nexus users. But more options like blink speed in ms and multiple color combinations like blue then green then red for Mom, red then blue then orange for Bill etc.
One feature I have always wanted is the ability to have the slide unlock lead to a password or face unlock. It really doesn't seem fair that people should have to sacrifice security to be able to use the lockscreen shortcuts, or the battery indicator on this rom. - already planned
Fixed Volume bugs on the SPHD710 Epic4GTouch. CM Has a speakerphone bug that sounds very low and the micrphone records extremely low that it's pretty much non existent. Ability to wake the phone by saying "Omni on" or how the new Motorola phone listens to voice commands that can control music apps and wake phone from sleep.
Native multitouch gestures and the ability to define the actions; would be a great addition and something that android tablets are lacking behind in.
Theming engine
Groupsms
change the background of the settings app
Blackberry Lockscreen
Apt-X support
- I don't know if the Pv6 privacy extension is standard activated in the newest Android versions but for OmniROM it should be always on or confugurable over the settings.
PIE with a working hardware search key.( What I'm trying to tell is, having a search button in PIE that emulate hardware search buttons like in those old Android phones, not just to open Google Now like the PA or CM PIE but more like LMT or Slim PIE. (Sorry for the inconvenience, English is not my native language. ))
It would be great to have a call notification like the Galaxy Note III. Like this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46514971&postcount=130
Quick Cover support.
SuperUser included
custom height navigation bar (for me is best 32dp and the action area is larger)
only text battery indicator
battery level in lane above of screen
before time in status bar: "day of week" (localized)
option to change "device name" (super for monitoring connected device to AP)
possibility to change layout square in status bar
ofcourse high performance (eg. on Nexus 4 in AnTuTu over 21k points)
resize nav bar
Please add QuickPeek notification bar while playing games.
Seriously about the only thing I want is either on first boot holo light ui or a button to change to light holo. Almost every rom has a button to change to dark holo but not the inverse and its irritating.
As a side feature gesture unlock is cool
Extended quick settings buttons - For example, I use an overlay to show my up- and download rate. But sometimes it's annoying so I would like to be able to turn it on and off easily like my WiFi or my GPS. The app just has to support it. That's it
Random Colors for Quick settings Tiles
How about quick statusbar preview when in full screen apps like on Samsung roms, when you swipe down from top ?
Multi window :
You gotta figure out some way to add apps to multi window without interruption of current process , something like Samsung side bar ?
ATM you have to stop current app by long home press to be able to add new window , so if I was watching some online video I'd have t play it all over again ..
What I wanna say is we need some way to create windowed apps without interrupting ongoing one/ long home press , because this way it's just ugly.
swipe down hide - swipe up show ( feature of GMD )
scrollable nav bar (like notification widgets, you can also put apps/shortcuts/and toggles, and with no scroll bars )( MY IDEA: dunno if someone have already made it )
Dual Layer ( i hope u guys get the point :> )
optional home button auto-hide ( feature of GMD )
customizable upto animations
something i have not seen sense my fascinate on aokp. adjustable auto-brightness variables
a mhl interface where you can send the output of a selected app to mhl, but then use the phone for other things.. so in car. send navigation to dvd player screen. and when i take a call the navigation continues on the second screen.
when at home. you could mhl a movie to your tv, while using your phone for other things. is this possible?
Icon packs being able to be applied to stock launcher with out having to install a 3rd party app/launcher would be great
A built in "Mass Memory Mode" for sdcard would be handy.
Recent Apps custom Background and Alpha menu option.
Ability to change Wifi/signal Icon colors.
Could you implement iPhone like notifications for full screen apps? Or a way to pull down the status bar in full screen apps (like most Touchwiz phones)?
I wish there was a way to install wanted features through aroma installer, like brightness slider is something I don't use so I wouldn't choose to install the code or dark or light ui switch, some might choose to install dark, I would install the light holo switch
A shortcut in power menu to a dashboard where i can find all my rom controls - go to settings and voila! [don't be lazy ]

Facebook contact integration, HD contact pictures. - can use 3rd party apps
It would be great to have some common kernel features for all builds. Like governors, i/o schedulers, tcp congestion control algorithms, zram, ksm, specific filesystems support. Controlling them should be integrated into performance settings, with advanced fine tuning options as well.
Other board-specific features (DT2W, S2W, fast charge, Wi-Fi power mode toggle, vibration intensity, gamma control, adaptive backlight, in-kernel auto brightness, BLN, etc.) should also have standard sysfs paths, this way the available features can be controlled in performance settings (or other places in the settings app) and those not included will simply be hidden. - kernel so no

boot screen changer (the picture that comes up first when turning your phone on) like this - this will be hard to do because every device has different partition details
Oh, and a few people have mentioned keyboard mods...I'd like a keyboard that will let me swipe my email address without having to save it first, and gives me the option to swipe passwords. palm rejection (incoming call) - 3rd party apps exist so no
wave to hang (incoming call) - 3rd party apps exist so no
stylus support (ex: samsung's stylus button) - on gerrit
File Manager would be great - will come down the line, low priority as of now

long press back button to kill apps - dev options
OTA updates would also be nice. - will be done in the future
messaging app with alot of features - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46478642&postcount=90 - - 3rd party apps exist so no and if you need it badly find us a AOSP one
request a setting I had on PacMan. When you press Vol up or down the volume bar comes up on screen, but on the right side of it there is an expandable settings button. When you click it, it shows all individual volume types, and their corresponding current levels. That way it's super easy to change individual volumes. Alarm, notification, music, ring tones are all individual volume settings - on the list
I suppose this won't even make a list but, if possible, and if they're going to create some new music player, could I drop in a request for Opus support? It's an "official" audio standard now, and I suspect that support will grow over time - it's freakin' awesome for low bitrate audio and the only players that seem to support it yet are GoneMAD (which I can't tolerate) and Neutron (which to me is hideous).
Would love to see a bare metal audio player that has the basics: good format support, cover art support (embedded as well as included in folders), and that's about it. I think support for Opus was in the works for Apollo, could still be at this time I have no idea but I wouldn't mind having it in something besides the aforementioned players.
If you're gonna do a full blown open source OS, might as well have a media player that covers the open source audio format(s) fully as well or as much as possible. - XpLoDWilD is looking into it
Net speed indicator like in the latest Carbon - added to gerrit here & here
I am in no way related to OmniROM. Just created a thread to maintain a list.
Thanks
Munchy
Something like Floating window (not the multi window)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40906936&postcount=2
Needs to have everything it can (I hope) but things that are kinda only in a few roms that you don't see a lot, for example, i'd like to see full animation control as well as scrolling animations, Net speed indicator like in the latest Carbon, and the ability to have carrier shown in statusbar with the ability to have a custom carrier like in Mokee OS?
I'd like to see full control of the launcher, or perhaps even integrated launchers that are changeable. The AOSP launcher is just fine, but I like the complete control I get with Nova.

Something ive always wanted from android, but never found the right solution, Is a transparent keyboard.
Honestly one thing people haven't really mentioned is a framework like Xposed to be baked directly into the rom. Talk about customization and such.

BTW
I have already added volume wake to gerrit. Will be merged soon.
Regarding DT2W
This is actually very dependent on the device and needs kernel support. I have added this together with S2W for the Oppo find5. For other devices this needs more investigation if it is possible to implement

Here's a couple:
Custom statusbar colors to match app...make it intelligent enough to figure out current app values and just emulate them - extend beyond current availablilty and allow custom colors on a per-icon/clock basis.
MIUI-style theme engine, where you can fine tune elements on a per-app basis, mix-n-match, etc. Would be great if it supported current MIUI/CM themes, but with this expanded functionality. And with MIUI, you can theme anything you know the package name of and can get the resources from.

Native CIFS and USB OTG.
ADB over wifi?
Facebook contact integration, HD contact pictures.
Mind you, I'm just rattling off a wishlist. Sounds very exciting so far. Can't wait to see the new phasebeam.
Edit: Also thought yesterday...wouldn't it be cool to get some kind of live wallpaper that did almost like a zoe (HTC One) or animated .gif as a live wallpaper? Not a full persistent video...but more of like those pictures in harry potter.
Adb over WiFi is on gerrit
USB otg is another very device specific feature. For devices that supports is on the HW side no problem. For the others USB host support can be added if possible to the kernel

I'm aware that some of these are kernel/device specific. But it would be kinda cool to have them baked in off the bat when possible, versus having to hunt down and install a secondary kernel that may or may not work 100% with the ROM. I always prefer to use the official kernel when I can.
It would be great to have some common kernel features for all builds. Like governors, i/o schedulers, tcp congestion control algorithms, zram, ksm, specific filesystems support. Controlling them should be integrated into performance settings, with advanced fine tuning options as well.

Here are my feature requests:
- Pure AOSP look
- Improvements of performance & battery efficiency (maybe omni rom should build their own kernel to make this actually happen)
- Open source drivers for phones with only useless proprietary ones
I would actually prefer performance and battery life than battery consuming software features namely halo
My requests so far (don't know if already in):
- Quiet hours
- Custom autobrightness
- LED color Settings
- retain AOSP (kernel) compatibility (Nexus devices)
Btw. on one of the screenshots I saw of Omni where the MultiWindow feature was shown it was quite hard to see where one app starts and another ends, maybe it would be beneficial to add a small separation line?

My thoughts exactly. Maybe even give it it's own performance app that is an AIO stop for overclocking/undervolting/governor/scheduler/etc. tuning. Instead of having a mildly limited "performance" area in settings or having to do things via a 3rd party app that has support for whichever kernel's features we want to use...one unified kernel/tuning app for any device. It already sounds like the ROM is going to be very performance-oriented...this could even potentially be like a centerpiece for all the tuning features. :good:

Undervolting is present in the performance control app already, flashed another kernel to test and logs show it's available, but the app crashes somewhere else. Will have to investigate that as soon as I resync repos with GitHub ones (I only have Gerrit repos synced now. ).
