I see alot of question from n1 users asking if the upgrade from n1 is a good choice. I also see alot comparison to the iPhone 4 and Nexus one. How come I don't see any comparison to the HTC Evo? Is the galaxy s not in the same level for comparison. I thing the galaxy is much better then the Evo. Lighter, brighter and faster. I mean running on eclair. I know now they had the froyo update. But I think once galaxy s gets froyo, this thing will fly. Even the just announced HTC desire HD/ace, will not compared to the galaxy s. Am I wrong for thinking this way? I just think galaxy s is a great android device. Then again just my thought. What you guys think.

Probably because the Evo is a CDMA phone and can't be used on ATT. Also, Sprint hasn't released their Galaxy S variant, so those guys don't have anything to compare yet!
This thing, with the speed fix, utterly kills anything else on the market.
The N1 got about a 2x speed boost just from Froyo, so I'd expect a speed fix PLUS Froyo on this Galaxy S will be unstoppable.
Friend of mine has the Evo. It's high end along with the Droid X, etc... But the Galaxy S is just "the best" and the Evo can't top it.
a "non-quantitative" comparison - a buddy came over yesterday and had his Evo 4G with him - and asked to play with the vibrant
when he first saw the display (i set up that live "waves" wallpaper), his jaw dropped - then i had him hit the avatar movie, for the hey of it - jaw stayed in the lowered position
he knew about the GPS problem we've been dealing with, but when i said -'now you know why i've been hoping / holding out for a fix to the gps problem", he understood
I know he left here weighing the cost of a changeout to Epic 4G when it hits spring
there's no comparison on display, none - and the speed ( i don't have a ton of apps installed so there's no lag) -
the UI, ie TouchWiz or whatever it's called, that's up in the air still but we'll see what 2.2 does

LOL, I did the same thing with Avatar (loaded myself on the Captivate) to an iPhone user the other day.
The problem with the Epic 4G is it'll be bigger, heavier, bulkier than the other candybar variants.
I also didn't really notice much lag but I must say in-app performance is vastly improved with an EASY PIE lag fix that takes you two minutes (assuming you've got ADB working, etc). Push 3 files to it, then run 1 of them, reboot, done.

The better comparison would be the Evo vs The Samsung Epic, since these are both CDMA phones that run on Sprints network. But yes, I agree the Galaxy S line of phones are the cream of the crop hardware wise and don't get the attention like HTC or Apple devices.
With the exception for one's sotrware/ui preference, there is no comparison with the hardware. The Galaxy S is simply better.
T-Mobile just confirmed a sidekick 4G android device will be coming in the next few months
http://www.gizmocrunch.com/android/4841-samsung-galaxy-4g-htc-sidekick-t-mobile
It sounds interesting, I have had a sidekick before and the design is hot imo however the software (danger OS) was terrible the market had no apps compare to android.
So what you guys think about this? Do you see potential in the device since its android afterall, and don't come comment things like "its a teenager phone" because I've seen old people with it before LOL

the only thing I see not making me excited is the possibility that htc won't be making it, we all know that the best processors are currently made by htc and samsung, and I only buy htc phones! lol

When the Sidekick was released, apps were not an issue, it was never really an issue. In fact, I am sure that it decline because the iPhone was a smartphone that didn't feel like you were carrying around a brick. I had the Sidekick 3 which was released in 2006, it was heavy, but it was a pretty cool phone despite the fact it was not exactly portable.
Also, neither Samsung or HTC will make the next Sidekick (lack of involvement with the brand is one reason). Most likely it will be either Sharp or Motorola. Leaning towards Sharp because they didn't have issues with their Sidekick versions.
Fun fact, the guy behind Android founded Danger Inc.
I had the Sidekick 08 from launch all the way up until a couple months ago when I purchased the myTouch 4g. I enjoyed the phone while I had it, never had any problems with it(except for the whole data loss incident). I got the MT4G because the sidekick had been worn out over the past years, but it was a good phone
If htc ain't making than no sidekick for me lmao but we still don't know for sure any one could make this new sidekick we'll see!

This is awesome news!!
I had the latest sidekick Lx and I loved it, still love that keyboard for texting, i miss it ):
Do you all think they will have still have that flip screen.
I recently had to use one and let me tell you i hated every minute of it.
See I like a lot of people text when we arent suppose to. Having to flip that screen everytime to send a text was painful. I really dont see how kids get away with texting in class.

Know?
Droid X performs tons of HTC devices. And that's a Motorola. Droid X is about equal to the MT4g in power.
I hope Samsung makes the Sidekick. Super AMOLED FTW! Plus it's gonna be Andy Rubin's baby. Which means... Stock Android ?! It could be like the Nexus S with a keyboard epic win
Makes sense to me that it would be running android though not only is it the best os in my opinion but the guy who brought you the sidekick UI is now in charge of Google's user experience department. I hope for one hope HTC busts out the sidekick I never owned one and always wanted one, and although Sombionix and Team Whiskey bust out some great roms for my phone I don't think I'll go the Samsung route again.
Dank Ups
Vibrant Galaxy S
Doin that Voodoo that it do so well with Bionix V5

That sounds pretty sweet! Physical kbs are always nice.
Yea I'm not saying its bad its just I like htc better but it looks good for samsung fans at least its better than sharp making the sidekick, and I love that it has a ffc but guess what and this really inffuriates me...... no flash on the cam wtf at this age

Ok my chick wants my evo and I have a chance to go back to the epic or try the shift I need help on to decide if I want to keep evo or go for the other two 4g phones plz help me thank u bc den wise on evo is great and I know what Im doing from easy one click root and recovery too everything else vs adb Idk how and steps wise with shift and some what epic plz tell me good opinions thanks people
Sent from my PC36100-EVO-using Tapatalk
Eh, with the shift you would have the newer Snapdragon plus a keyboard, but you lose the bigger screen. The Epic, there's dev work being done on it so it has froyo through custom roms right now, but not official until the 22nd of this month I believe.
The epic is getting froyo on feb 21. I say get the epic if you like a bigger screen. The shift felt like a hero with a keyboard. I've messed with the shift. Doesn't feel any faster than the epic. 4.0 screen is the sweet spot for me.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Ah see that's nice official froyo so hmm it just sucks if I go to epic bc I just got a defender otterbox for my evo so my chicks gonna have that and then I got the white back piece to it she will have that too. She's taking all my goodies along with Ima miss sense and I doubt there's roms out for epic that has sense. Plus they don't make defender otterboxs for epic and I don't know why. I just wanna try somthin different and I'm pushing now more towards epic but I still need options.
Sent from my PC36100-EVO-using Tapatalk
I would go.with the Epic 4G. The slightly larger screen that is also better is a plus for me.
I have the Captivate which is the same phone as the Epic sans.a keyboard and I love it; albeit if I could have a keyboard I dont think I would go for it.
I need so options people but im starting to push towards the epic but i have about a week and a half to decide so let me know plz thanks
I just bought the evoshift via ebay and I plan to sell my evo.
I don't ever want to deal with samsung... I like HTC build quality and the shift will get dev attention soon enough. oc to 1.8 stable 1.5 not bad
What from a I can hear, you guys seems to be in favor of HTC phones. Im looking into upgrading phones and I was curious as to whether or not the Evo is better than the Evo shift. Those are definitely the two leading phones in my opinion but I wanted to know if you guys had any thoughts from being direct users.

See the only thing stopping me from shift is the screen size and no front facing camera and lower mp on camera vs 8mp so that's about the only thing really why I'm pushing more towards Samsung bc its stays in specs with the evo pretty damn close

go read up in the epic section, the majority of people hate it.
Go check out the shift section and you will see the opposite.
Just got my wife the shift and I have to say that it I'd a fantastic phone, and the camera is good.
Plus samsung support is god awful.
Scent phrum mie fone!
Epic
i would go with the epic, the keyboard is amazing
I'm so confused Idk what to do

Epic hands down! It's super easy to root, about the same size of the evo, you don't compromise screen, and they got some great roms
I just found out the Incredible 2 is in my price range. From what I have been able to find, it has not been rooted yet, whereas the Fascinate has a great community. What would you do in my shoes. I will be purchasing in about a month -(I need a Verizon phone less than $100). This will be my first Android (going from Blackberry). I want it to be a good experience.
Assuming the DInc2 isn't rooted prior to my purchase, what should I get? What are the odds looking like for getting root, Gingerbread ota, or anything like that? I fully intend to have this phone for 2 years.
Thanks!
i would go with the dinc2, but im a huge htc fan.
I have a Mesmerize (fascinate on a different carrier) and I definitely recommend the fassy. The dev community is fantastic. We almost have a fully funtiinal gingerbread cyanogenmod which will be amazing, by the time you get the phone it will definitely be done. It is a phone that will stand up well against newer phones. The dinc is not bad, but as you noted, it hasn't even been rooted. There is no development at all. I've used both phones, and I say, if you want to make your phone awesome on your own, get the fascinate but if you want it to be good out of the box get the dinc.
Sent from my CM7 SCH-i500
Hmm...one vote for each...
if the inc2 is not rooted, i would go with the fascinate. If it is rooted, hands down i would pick the incredible 2 if you plan on rooting and romming it. I loved my original incredible and still use it even though i have moved on. It is a great device. IMO sense is a little better than touchwiz on the fascinate, but that is just me.
Well it isn't rooted yet...so that's the question. I don't know if it ever will be rooted.
I would go with the Incredible 2. The root is coming out soon and plus imo Sense is much better than Touchwiz.
I'd get the incredible 2 in my opinion it has a better camera, more ram , better build quality the only thing fascinate has better is an amoled screen
I like both phones a lot, but I would have to give the edge to the Incredible 2. The only advantage I would take the Fascinate for would be the sALMOED screen. It is truely stunning. But the Incredible 2's screen is also great (any screen on an Android phone would be a giant improvement over a BB screen lets face it). Slightly better specs plus Sense is much better than Touch wiz.
Fascinate........................
Thanks everyone! It looks like the bootloader is just about unlocked for the Incredible 2, so that is what I am going to go with!
Good choice.
Just curious...
I have the option to trade my Infuse for an HTC Inspire (non HD version). Both phones are in like new condition. I know many of you have multiple phones so any advice?
Before deciding on the Infuse back in August 2011, I considered buying the Inspire but I found that the screen was not as clear and bright. It reminded me of old, grainy LCD monitors. I also don't really like SenseUI but that is an easy fix with root/custom ROM.
I would also check out their forum on XDA to see how they're doing over there (I do this with EVERY phone I think about purchasing, lol). I have heard HTC offers codes to unlock the bootloader for most of their devices so that's a plus also. If you plan on rooting it and loading custom ROMs, I would also definitely check the CyanogenMod and MIUI sites to see if they offer ROMs for it. Every little bit helps.
YMMV but seeing as how they're very comparable in the spec department, you should seriously consider it. I know I did.
I've known a few people with the HTC Inspire and it's by far one of the worst phones I've ever seen. Now, granted that's probably 90% due to HTC's ****ty software, and a custom ROM would probably help it out immensely (I tried to convince my friends to let me put a custom ROM on, but they'd prefer to just whine about how much they hate their phone *shrug*).
I would suggest that you take caution in swapping for that phone. The Infuse is by far a better phone, but the development community is dead, which is why, I assume, you'd want to trade it. Otherwise there's no reason to trade.
The dev community is dead huh... must be on a different infuse forum than I am bro.

My only reason for considering it is my mother has the HTC and likes it better due to the size, easier to txt. The screens don't even compare. I have no issues with my Infuse and would have to flash back to stock for her but I don't want to swap for a phone that doesn't handle custom ROMS, Apps well etc. I was just thinking about helping her out. The size is no biggie for me.
Thanks for the input
I have an htc inspire running abcession ics 4.0.3 OC to 1.92g and it is amazinglly fast and smooth.... its all up to what YOU want bro.

I'm guessing you mention size because the Inspire is smaller. Honestly, the Infuse FEELS smaller to me. The Infuse is a little bit taller, it's width dimensions are nearly the same, and it's quite a bit thinner which gives it a smaller feel to me. I find the Infuse much better feeling in the hand than almost any 4.3" phone due to it's thin lightweight design. Being that it's only a tenth of an inch wider, I don't think it would make a whole lot of difference in texting for her.
Most important factor is you said flashing back to stock for her. This is where a HUGE warning flag pops up. HTC's Sense UI is absolute dog **** on that phone. It crashes frequently, it slows the phone down incredibly. That phone has turned more people to iPhones than any other Android phone I know. If you'd be running stock software, then I HIGHLY suggest you avoid the Inspire. Sense used to be something you WANTED on a phone, and Sense 4.0 looks like it's getting better again, but for a while there I wouldn't have taken a phone with a Sense based UI if you paid me. If you're willing to put a custom ROM on it for her, then the Inspire has some decent ICS ROMs as dman mentioned, and probably even pretty good Senseless GB ROMs, but stock, no way. It reminds me of the original stock version of Eclair on the Captivate. Slow as dirt. At least that's my opinion and the impression I got from using several friends' Inspires.

I meant that I would flash my Infuse back to stock for her but wanted to be able to flash solid ROMs to the Inspire for myself. IDK, I have no issues at all with my Infuse but I didn't want to get stuck with a shotty phone. We'll see just wanted some input in case I swapped.

Oh, I completely misunderstood because I didn't read well enough! Yeah, I dunno, that's a tough choice. For one I think the Infuse is an entirely better phone than the Inspire, but the Inspire isn't that far behind and does have some decent ICS ROMs where the Infuse doesn't, so that's tempting. I don't think I could give up my SAMOLED+ screen though.
Brother had an inspire before i got the infuse. I find the inspire to be thicker and heavier than the infuse. Those are big problems with me especially when the infuse runs with a bigger screen and battery. Plus once you go super amoled you just cant go back
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
Between the infuse and inspire, I'd take the Infuse just because its thinner and has a better screen.
I wish HTC came out with a thinner phone. Of all the factory UI's, I enjoy HTC's the most.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
before coming to the infuse i had the htc inspire..the infuse is DEFINITELY a step up in my opinion. A lot of bugs on the inspire including issues that many were finding, as well as myself, that when you used the flash on the camera the phone would restart itself.
1300 mAh vs. 1750mAh.. enough said for me.
I still have my Inspire. DO NOT TRADE FOR AN INSPIRE.
1) Screen sucks.. Seriously all washed out.
2) Lack of codec support. Playback of MKVs sucked even with other players.
3) Stupid useless unibody design makes it heavy and impossible to replace the 1280mAh battery with a higher capacity one.
4) No internal storage.
5) The camera sucks.... Ok maybe it's not the camera but instead the software. Videos and pics are compressed much more than the Infuse. Oh... The lens sticks out like a nipple. WTF HTC?
6) No HDMI-out if that matters to you.
6 cons off the top of my head. HTC really dropped the ball with the Inspire. Dumbasses.
I've had the infuse for quite sometime and picked up a inspire a while back on Craigslist and have to admit I haven't really used the infuse since. I'm running ice cold sandwich on my inspire and its smooth and fast. but really its ones personal preference but myself I like the inspire but they are both great phones with great roms to use get both and switch back and forth

Totally off-topic but... here's one.
Man i got both phones and DO NOT trade the beautiful infuse for the Inspire 4G i repeat DO NOT trade!.
The build of the Inspire "feels" kinnda better being heavier and having a nice design but BELIEVE ME that 1230 mAh batery does down FAST, the camera does not compare to the Infuse camera, and the screen quality on the Infuse is just not reached by the Inspire.
They are both GOOD phones, thats why i bought em both but I you can only have one, keep the Infuse ALWAYS.
Don't do ittt!
I just traded my old Inspire for an Infuse about two weeks ago. Let me tell you that it is one of the better choices I've made! I would stick with the Infuse for the screen alone, the Super AMOLED screen is beautiful! Probably the easiest screen to read in daylight that I've ever seen. Apart from that, the processor (at stock speeds) is faster and I also find the camera to be better on the Infuse (software maybe? Cause aren't the cameras the same?)
My inspire is running Abcession by the collective ICS 4.0.3 and it makes my infuse look sad... apparently you don't know how to set that inspire up... its a beast. Able of OC to 2.1 ghz on ics... its a beast...period
