[Q] evo ota update 9/23 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

i have an evo rooted with 2.2.. i realise lastnight there is an ota from htc. if i update normally will i lose my root? i was almost going to flash the rom but i got lost in the radio update stuff and kernels etc.. i searched but i couldn't find a str8 answer.. ijust moved to android so i am a n00b.

You should update manually and not OTA if you are rooted. Otherwise, just rerun your root process afterwards if you lose root (this worked with unrevoked 3.2.1, not sure about other methods).

[Q] Please help! May need rerooting but unsure!

I apologize to all if this is in the wrong category or this has been answered already. I am new to his site and relatively new to the ROMS and Rooting
Basically what happened is I rooted my evo in order to wifi Tether, this worked fine, however, i made the rookie mistake of updating my phone which may have removed the root because my root programs say i no longer have root priveleges.
Next I figured since its not rooted anymore I'd be able to update to the latest software 3.7, however this proved to not work either as it will find the update when i search for updates and wont install.
Now i am confused, should i reroot my phone, and flash the rooted version of the 3.7 update rom, should i factory reset, or am i just stuck with this phone the way it is now.
Thanks in advance

Motorola Bravo Showing Superuser After Upgrade

Hello, forgive me if I posted in the wrong area. I'm new to the forum. I have a Motorola Bravo that I rooted using z4 while running 2.1. ATT released an update for the Bravo to 2.2 Froyo and I installed it thinking nothing about it. Now I seem to have superuser installed even when I do a factory reset. I've also lost root access. Please help. Would like to revert back to the 2.2 without su and start from scratch.
I got it. I just re rooted the phone and then unrooted it.
what did you use to root? z4 isn't working for me anymore.

[Q] Can You Root The OTA Update Android 2.3.3 Verizon

I updated my rooted Droid 2 (Not Global) OTA through Verizon. When my phone rebooted I lost my root access. Z4Root, Gingerbreak and Superoneclick don't work! Is anyone working on a fix so I don't have to drop down to 2.3.2 and then re-install the rooted version of 2.3.3?
Why yes...yes you can!
Try http://goo.gl/wjHTi. You need the file "MotorolaOneClickRoot.zip". It all went pretty smooth for me.
Didn't work.
I tried MotorolaOnClickRoot and wasn't able to make it work. It went through the entire process, claimed I was rooted and when I tried to get access I was denied. Suggestions?

[Q] Will OTA kill root?

I rooted my Xoom several months ago after the first ICS update. I have received another OTA that has downloaded and is asking for install permission. If I allow it to update, will it kill root?
Thanks in advance.
Joe
OTA and root on the Xoom
In my case the OTA would fail. But if you install the OTA with CWM there is a good chance it will kill root. Most of the newer rom's include the features that come with the stock rom, and many more. Just pick one you like and go..
Best, E
In some cases, root will kill OTA.
In the cases where OTA proceeds, you will lose root (unless you do something to retain it). There are several utilities to help you maintain root through an OTA upgrade or flash. Voodoo OTA rootkeeper is rather popular.

JB update, failed ota, manual update help?

I have been anxiously waiting for asus to post the jb firmware (us tf300t). I found it today, but now realize if i flash it manually i lose my root, backed up with voodoo and superSU or not. I then was reading about this dlpkgfile thing. Am i understanding this correctly?
It is the file that gets downloaded from asus when you check for an OTA, or when an OTA is pushed to your device
It then reboots, and uses the file to update the device.
It does not make u lose root?
So theoretically, I should be able to put it in /cache/directory and then`reboot my tab and it should start updating right? I know i need to make sure i get US version, backup root, etc. But will this work how I am thinking it will?
Oh and, I am not sure why my ota failed in the first place, i think i might have uninstalled a system app by accident without thinking. I am just plain rooted stock, NOT unlocked. I had also run the firmware for ics from asus website yesterday to get all the stock stuff back on my tab, then rerooted, and am waiting for JB update now
