OTA update in stages? - Captivate General

Just wondering if it is rolling out in stages as it does for major updates?
My girlfriend and I both have a Captivate, both bought on release date at same place.
I checked for updates on both phones, and hers found one, mine did not. I'm no to worried about it honestly, just wondering.

Yes, that is correct. About 15k per day for the next few weeks.
Or if you don't want to wait, you could always move the date on your phone ahead and try again. That's how I got mine, had to go two days ahead.
Good luck.

Yes, the update will be done in batches based on your IMEI number's.. It will be a push message to the phone.. so you don't necessarily have to go to the settings->>software update menu - I keep getting the "communication failed" error - regardless how many days I set ahead

Sure was, and was after the update. Sideloading still works as well. Dunno if this will be the case if/when we get a Froyo update.
Reading through all the troubles that people were having I did remove the clockwork update zip before trying. Don't know if that had any bearing, I'm just paranoid. Worked like a charm.

Random OTA update

I'm downloading a new software update . I had already installed the last update.

When I say last update I meant the one with the GPS fix.
What else could this be besides froyo ?

AT&T doesn't charge you for anything that comes from the update server. You sir, suck. ;-)

It sure does show up under data used, so I assume that it will be counted against you data plan.
Is your phone rooted? Showing symptoms associated with.
AGAIN
Yeah I have no idea what this update is ? This is like the 5th time it failed on me, so forget it.
I am rooted.
When I got the update, I had just gotten the phone. The update went through just fine, the day after I rooted my phone. So maybe rooting had something to do with it. I don't see how that could effect it but maybe.
I think it's time you detach the umbilical cord to the OTA update Update using Clockwork. (Just a suggestion).

Very important to all captivate owners!!! Read!

EDIT: Yes I know that this has been a long standing issue...but I never heard of it until it happened to me!!! So no need to come in and comment like 4 or 5 others felt the need to do with "lol this is old news u r teh dumbz hurr" I just wanted to bring this up to any new captivate owners like myself :]
If for some reason you have a hankering for some stock 2.1 from your captivate like I did for whatever random reason tonight......if you see an an OTA (Over The Air) Update for your captivate....DO NOT DO IT!!!!!! I say this because I did this tonight thinking that MAYBE this was some form of a 2.2 silent update push..or hell just some bugfixes would have been nice...so i went ahead and downloaded it, it prompted for a restart so it could flash it......and when it attempted to flash...it got about 50% and failed! Well at this point im thinking...awesome...ATT at its finest. So it said it was going to reboot back to android, I waited patiently...waited.....it hot about 3 minutes with phone in hand and screen off when i feel 2 *buzz* buzz* ! I think to myself HOORAY! its okay ....well i was wrong...that was my Captivates last words so to speak. I have tried plain powering on the phone....trying to go into recovery, trying to go into download mode even using a JIG to get back into download mode.....nothing the screen is blank completely, seems as if its not even getting power. :\ I am now the sad owner of a Captivate shaped door stop /facedesk .....Thankfully i yelled at the ATT people on the phone tonight enough to get a replacement phone lol! I am greatfull for this and felt as if i should pass this along to you guys until this gets sorted out. And no im not the only one thats had this problem

I think this is a known issue. Many phones had this happen with the release of JH7. It was provably just the JH7 update that got pushed to your phone. I wouldn't get my hopes up

this wasnt a post about me getting my hopes up for a 2.2 update lol. This was a warning to those who dont about that fail update thats messing up a ton of phones. ;D
blackberry, iphone captivate, whatever. i have learned NEVER EVER do OTA update download it from phone authors site or whatever no matter what phone it is OTA is spelled BRICK....
I didn't received any ota from att but last year I forced update my phone and it works fine with me though without any issue. I think its the same ota update but I manually force to update my phone lol

I'm of the assumption that a OTA bricks less than 0.1% of the devices that attempt an update. Granted that may be a large number if the number of devices are large..but not much of a chance to brick in the big picture
JH7 pushed to mine flawlessly when i got my phone last month, no issues at all.

+100 Mine got the OTA fine and it was even rooted on edge service. Meh, who can tell why some did brick and others didn't. For sure I'll never do another OTA again. I love my 1007 build too much to return it.

Update for HTC Arrive

JUst want to throw out there that I got the update for the HTC Arrive just now. Currently updating as I type this. Hoping my power doesn't go out because I'm in Texas and the weather is insane right now...

That backup just seemed to take too long. Unfortunately, nothing HTC specific. Still have that 160 SMS character mess...ugh.
Ugh, Im hoping this didn't break MMS...there's only one way to fix that -.-
Didn't realize this update was going to take this long, since when I updated my Focus to NoDo it took like 10 minutes.
Oh well, next time I won't start an update right before bed. But even though the update won't actually change anything that I will notice, I still have to do it ASAP, because I just do!

lol, I did the same thing. Ended up having to stay up until 12:30 am so I could have my phone back. I use the alarm on it to wake me up at 6 am
Driver loaded?
So, I got the update a couple of days ago, daughter yesterday, wife this morning. I've got two more Arrives to go.
One thing I noticed was that when the phone was put into update mode, my Win7 gave the "found new hardware" dialog and I have a HTC 9#### (I don't remember the number but it was something like 96300 or so -- and a quick google the other day revealed it to be the right model number) driver show up when I clicked on the details. When I plug it in now, it just goes to Zune software again and I can't see the number.....but a driver got loaded.
Did MS push a driver or did whatever flashing mode cause Win7 to recognize it? This might go along with the tethering work being carried out......
EDIT: 93100. Looked through history.

New phone update available!!!

Just thought I would run the LG software update wizard on my PC, with the phone plugged in. My G2X is INSTALLING IT RIGHT NOW!!!
OH PLZ PLZ PLZ let this rock... Has anyone else seen, done this yet?
I just took a screenshot and added it! I'm backing up my phone now... Will post, but it's lookin like Gingerbread is OFFICIALLY HERE.
WOOT!!!!
DAMMIT... it changed it mind, and says my phone is up to date... Sorry guys. What a damned beating.
Let is know if you do actually get the update.
But, I'm a little wary that there is actually one. I've had this same update screen come up on me twice within the last couple of weeks, and it ultimately came back and told me that I had the latest version. I just checked again and it says that my phone has the latest version.
The Cell phone is the latest version already. So you don't need to update.
Please update the moment you're finished.

Mine says I have latest version, don't need update. Are you pulling our legs?
I'm SO sick of this crap... Yeah.. as you can see from the screenshot, it said it was an OS update. I just backed everything up, I hit continue, and BAMMM. Your phone is up to date.

I'm prolly grasping @ straws now... But I have rooted my phone. Is anyone out there 100% stock? If so, try this update.

I'm 100% stock, never rooted. And, like I mentioned, I have gotten that screen before (twice), but then it comes back and says that there's no update. I didn't get it today, though.
DAMMIT! Wasn't LG supposed to give us some details on this "In a few days" well over a week ago?!

[Q] Still no MB1 - how do I get it?

I still don't have MB1, despite checking for updates multiple times, and am still on LK3.
I tried kies (doesn't support upgrade for this phone).
I tried stopping and clearing data for google services framework about 6 times in a row and then checking for updates.
Nothing.
The phone is straight stock - no root, nothing special.
Any additional ideas on how can I get the update to MB1 on this thing?
Does anyone even have any speculation as to why I'm not getting it pushed to me?

Since you're pure stock, just stop by your nearest Verizon Center and let them do it for you, also demand an answer why it is not doing the update.
