SetCPU making HTC Sense stop responding - Droid Incredible Themes and Apps

Every once and a while when im running SetCPU my phone freezes and it says "Sorry Application HTC Sense (in process com.htc.launcher) is not responding" Force close or wait. Then if i hit wait it just freezes my phone, and if i hit force close my phone restarts...
Does anyone else have this problem? Im running the RUU with hydra #2 kernel. I don't think its the kernel, ive had the same problem with the kings kernels too. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for any help.

Ditto for me. I am running Redemption Rom v 2.0.2. Tried King's #4, got eyeball-flattening speed, but same lockup/lag w/ sense. For me anyway, Hydra's #4 kernel worked well with this ROM - no lag or f/c.
All that said, I got stability & speed with my setup after reading the 'What's your Setup' thread in this forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8221617
What I learned was how folk used setCPU, and what I was not doing correctly. At this point in time, I am getting speed and stability from King #3, with Redemption ROM. I found dimebagdan's input particularly helpful.
Will you please tweak your settings after reading that, and post your findings?

Why are you running Setcpu when also running Hydra Kernel at the same time, if I'm not mistaken that's never a good idea.
Also which version of Setcpu you're using?
if you're using the one on the market, that's no good.
Another thing if you're trying to overcloked Setcpu at the Max that'll freeze your phone.

Go to the SetCPU and and press menu and select Perflock Disabler. This is intended for HTC phones running on certain kernels. You will get a little popup that explains more.

SetCPU and Hydra Kernel CAN be run together. Setting SetCPU to the "max" will only lockup sometimes on some phones.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus: Setcpu not running in backround/ force closing

SPECS: Samsung Galaxy Nexus Unlocked gsm on MTS. running AOKP root franco kernel milestone 4 and nova launcher. Basically i go into the app set cpu and everytime it will grant it permissions but once i leave the app it doesnt say its running in the backround under settings, running apps. and i can tell jus by the overall speed of the phone. ive tried all i can think of including: Fixing Permissions, checking the remeber box on the app under superuser, reinstalling the kernel, downgrading the kernel to milestone 3, running it on the stock launcher?, reboot, i even factory reset my phone! setCPU (and any other overclocking app) refuse to run in the backround ive looked everywhere and can NOT find an answer any ideas?
Here, i use voltage control app and need to run just one time and the app don´t need to stay running on background.
it only works if i keep the app open in multitasking as soon as i close it my phone slows down, but thanks for showing it to me its much faster than setcpu or at least seems faster. guess ill jus wont swipe it away

[Q] CPU Not Stay Set

Hey guys. This is my 1st post on here so pardon me if it is in the wrong place.
I have been floating around for a long time. Had a Rooted Droid Charge with all kinds of different ROMS thanks to you guys and now I am on to a bigger... meaner phone... the Galaxy S3.
I have the phone rooted on stock
Im using the CleanKernel-V1.2
I can not get the CPU to stay at what i set it.
I have tried multiple different apps such as SetCPU, RomToolBox Pro, ect.
Nothing keeps it at what i set it. If i choose 1.5ghz, it may bump down to 900 or so like 1 min later then suddenly spike to the max of 1.9 (with the modded cleankernel)
I never had this problem with my Droid Charge and this has thrown me for a loop. If anyone has any solutions or idea, please throw em my way.
Thanks guys!

Thanks mate. Ill have to try that out. I was dealing with a wake/sleep issue on my phone today so i never got around to trying this.
No matter what you use if you are looking at it right after flash it will not stick. Some apps like setcpu will show it at 1036 because that is what the kernel auto goes to on opening apps and will show what it opened at and not what it is running. If you play with it right after flash it will be hot and thermald will kick it down also. Let settle and then use app that is recommended for the particular kernel. You can use other apps but they must not lock on open such as setcpu. Also let phone settle after each boot and get full permissions before opening scaling app.
just because you set the cpu to a certain mhz does't mean it will always run at that mhz all the time. Also you should make sure you have set on boot checked.

I do have it set. Always have . I have installed CPU Spy so i can see what my phones always running at. its showing 1512 most of the time. Thats stock kernel, stock everything (rooted). (I had to revert back to stock cause the cleankernel kept giving me lock screen problems. Wish i didnt cause its a great kernel.)

Viper XL 3.1 and Navigation

Having an issue with Google Navigation (maps is ok), but whenever it goes 3D mode it crashes shortly after :|
Currently on HBoot 2.14
Have noticed E/Sensors (973): MLUpdateData error (code 31) a couple of times throughout the logcat, is this G-Sensor related?
Phone slowing down after Viper 3.1
Did anyone who installed Viper 3.1 experience phone slowing down after the install? There is a lag when the notification bar is pulled down or switching between screens.
Being a noob, this is what I did -
1.) fastboot flash boot boot.img
2.) wiped cache and dlvik cache
3.) flashed viper3.1.zip
4.) I haven't tinkered around with the kernel. It should be the stock.
In effort of speeding up the device, I went to Venom Tweaks --> CPU and switched to "Performance". Not sure if that was the right thing to do.
Reading the Forums, everyone seems to have buttery smooth experience, not me
Any help is appreciated.

This is something I've noticed from Jelly Bean in general ( Cyanagenmod, AOKP, and Sense 4.5 ). Devs keep saying they'll address it before it eventually gets swept under the rug. Between that and signal issues I was having I've switched back to running stock (I'd rather have a working phone with a little bloat and a few less features). If you have to have Google Navigation you may want to do the same. Or maybe someone could set up a bounty to have devs actually do something about it (if there is something that can be done). Or you can go back to sense 4.0 for the time being. Sorry to sound like a negative Nancy.

The lag when pulling down notification is because you have quick toggles enabled. Disable them and it will be much faster.

[Q] Synergy r373 on vz i535

Haven't seen this topic covered in the Synergy forum, so I was hoping to hear if anyone knows of this issue and knows how to fix.
I have flashed the r373 ROM from Synergy a few times. I have a Verizon i535 phone. The ROM works great overall.
Did a Superwipe and using Ziggy Kernle and stock, i.e. non-selected, keyboard during install.
I find that during typing on the keyboard, in either Mail or Message, that once in a while the phone freezes for about 20-30 seconds. I cannon do anything in the mean time but wait. It seems to hold the cue of clicks, so that once it finally gets going, after 20-30 seconds, it flushes out the cue of clicks.
I have loaded this ROM (r373) twice and have the same issue. I tried one of the other keyboard options during the install, but same result.
Any ideas or help?
Otherwise, I love this ROM. Phenomenal battery life.
Thanks.

It's a known issue. Probably kernel related. No fix yet. Some have suggested changing the govenor from ondemand to somthing else like smartassv2. That seems to work but its more of a workaround.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear that it is a known issue and not just some problem in the way I am flashing.
I'm not sure I follow you on how to attempt the work around with what you describe about changing the govenor. Where do I change these settings?
Where, or how, do I learn more about this?
Thanks again.
Also fyi, the lag isn't just in email and message. You could be doing anything and it'll just freeze for a bit. I get like 2 instances a day. I would switch the kernel if Ziggy's kernel wasn't so awesome otherwise.
Basically to get rid of the freezes, you could flash a new kernel - either stock or another 3rd party kernel like LeanKernel
OR (not sure if this second method works 100%)
you can change your kernel governor
Description of various kernel governors
Synergy's default gov. for the ziggy kernel is ondemand. To change it you can use an app like SetCPU or ROM Toolbox or you can use the synergy's toolbox feature. If you want to use the synergy toolbox, go into you recovery, flash the rom to start aroma installer but do not hit install rom. Instead, select the toolbox, change the governor, apply changes, then hit menu and exit. Then you can reboot your phone. You wont have to actually re-flash anything.

random freezes on my s6 edge

hello,
I'm having a problem with my G925F
it randomly freezes (sometimes) on any screen, mostly while playing games, until i force reboot it (vol down+power for 7sec)
ROM: the global elite 4.1
Kernel: ROM stock.
any help would be appreciated, i tried different kernels but still problem, is it a ROM problem or hardware?
UPDATE: I tried different Roms too, same problem..
when im with headphones and it freezes, it starts a loud sharp noise that'll rape your ear (that's how it really feels)
and some glitchy lines appear on the screen..
it stays frozen for like 5 or 6secs then it reboots itself with a white solid LED light...
pleas guys what's this problem???
anyone??? ☹

Those glitchy lines are signs of hardware problems. Try flashing stock rom, if the problem persists, you'll know it's the hardware.

I'm pretty sure its hardware too, but idk which part is exactly damaged?
i didn't drop my phone, water or dust didn't touch it in anyway..
the problem happens while playing PUBG Mobile or similar heavy games.
btw.. can battery cause such problems like this?

It happened again, this time the device wasn't hot, no apps on background, no gaming, nothing. i was just on home screen swiping looking for an app, it suddenly froze. with those glitchy lines, rebooted itself with white solid LED light. i didn't use it for like 10min.. i came back again, unlocked it, swiped up for apps menu.. BOOM, froze again with those glitchy lines. this time it didn't reboot, it blacked out after 5sec.. i tried different button combinations to turn it on again, no luck. i plugged in the charger and waited for 2min, nothing. then i got into download mode [warning screen] (while plugged). i pressed the vol- button to restart, it booted up normally. now I can't really use it cause i don't want it to get worst. btw, sometimes when it freezes & reboot itslef, All settings are reset to default.
Any suggestions on what to do?

I doubt it's the battery, but you'll never know unless you try. Glitchy lines or artifacts are usually the sign of a failing gpu.

one more thing, when i shake thr phone near my ear, i hear something like (tick tick tick...). i taught that maybe that's it. but i asked my friend who has an s6e too (G925T) he said that he has that sound too when he shakes it, but doesn't encounter any problems with his phine... soo??
What I most associate with that sound, and the phone freezing... is CPU hotplugging. Are there any apps that affect these? /sys/class/devices/system/cpu/cpu./online
sys/class/devices/system/cpu/ whichever one isn't cpu 0-7 or cpuidle.

Which apps... maybe something related to "editing kernel settings", viewing CPU info (root), etc.
CPU hotplugging is the stopping (and returning when needed) of CPU cores (big cluster, etc), to save power, etc. When it fails, it does... that (maybe not the artifacts?).
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu[0-7]/online.
others related to CPU hotplugging...
/sys/devices/system/cpu/... ?
/sys/power/... ?
GPU hotplugging is /sys/devices/14ac0000.mali/power_policy (/sys/class/misc/mali0/device/power_policy). Writing "always_on" disables it, "coarse_demand" enables it, "demand" enables it. I haven't had any problems with this, only temperature reading.

Kernel 'settings' are reset to the default (defaults may change after flashing a kernel) on reboot, unless there's a script (init.d, etc) that changes the settings on boot, or later. If it happens again, maybe the error messages are in /proc/last_kmsg.

okay.. i flashed Aldeon this afternoon.
after booting, i installed Synapse. after opening it and granting superuser access.. it showed me the screen saying that kernel settings are reset ti default cuz system wasn't stable for 2mins after booting... this usually appear after it really happens...
its weird that it appeared after flashing the kernel directly...
no reboots or freezes so far, since yesterday.

Hello @zinou111 how has your phone behaved after what you did? I am currently having the same issues you had and I'm looking for a solution.
Yours is the only hope after a couple hours of searching.
really? same symptoms as mine?
well... i didn't do anything at all... I turned it off and threw it for like 4 days... and last few days, i was bored, so i got it back and turned it on.. i faced this problem only 4 times within this week... i didn't do anything..
it used to be +10 times a day... now its just gone i think & i hope... it didn't freeze last 3 days & it works flawlessly!
i hope this can help you
Solution! And Cause!
I am not pretty sure uf it is a software or a hardware damage! But It can be :
1. After years of using your phone the battery power decreases and the voltage needed for cpus to work is not given anymore..
2. A permission file!
FIX for 1.:
- Install custom kernel(pos45) where you can change voltage
- Install Synapse or MTweaks
- Upvolt all values under 1000mHz to 800mAh in both big and small cores
- And youre done!
FIX for 2.:
- Install rom Ultimate Nougat S8+ Port v3.1
- This rom contains a fix for this issue!(I tested it it works!)
I recommend: Try FIX for 2. FIRST its more secure and dont blame me if you destroy your device!

thanks bro! but i don't think its a software problem, cuz i had it completely fresh & new last week, i mean the guy flashed it using those things called BOXs.. like.. i'm even getting OTA updates lol... still same problem..
but i left it like i said turned off for about 3 days & i can tell that it got better.... probably the CPU is failing i guess
i'll try the 1st solution when i face the problem again
Yes I can safely say...

Ok but I can tell you that for me both ways 1 and 2 worked! (S6 Flat by the way)
I installed the rom(Way2) and no crashes anymore without changing the voltages... On stock rom(odin clean installed) I still had random reboots and freezes!:victory:
But when you flash a custom kernel and changes voltages (Way1) also on stock no more random reboots!
So both ways worked try it out!
