Reference software for our Polaris? - Touch Cruise Android Development

I open the post so those interested can share which apps work and wich do not work in our Polaris devices (no keyboard, chip kinda old, 240x320, etc), and why these apps are so unique to you. It is not a ranking or a directory intented to list 1.000 apps.
Please refrain from asking for codes, warez, etc. Only links to "official pages". No attachments please. I will update this first post whenever I think it is relevant for the original idea of the post, so here we go:
Desktop
File explorer
Google Tools
- Google - My Maps Editor 1.1.6 : Not working in Froyo
- Google Earth: Not working in Incubus RLS14 neither 1.0 nor 1.1
- Google Sky Map: Working but inverted.
In the cloud
- mspot: upload with your desktop utility and listen the music in the desktop or anywhere with your device with wifi.
GPS related:
- c:geo: Geocaching program linked to your account at geocaching.com, you can download caches at home and work off line (with the gps on, off-course) later.
Connect to PC
- Web Sharing Works great with Incubus RLS14. You can browse your device from a web explorer, play music, videos, download and upload files, etc.
- Dual Mount SD Widget Works great with Incubus RLS14. You can connect your device to USB as a pendrive, both in windows and ubuntu
Games not suitable for Polaris (they require keyboard or another screen resolution)
- Abduction: No keyboard
No solution found so far for:
- Internal Radio
- TMC
- Adb device name ?
Camera, my camera got broken (the glass) so I can not tell a lot:
- Quickmark QR-Code works great
- Barcode Scanner works great
If you like installing many apps, please share your current configuration:
- mine is NAND install with 1G system.img and 2G data.img installed in SD Card. Pros: lots of space CONS: I think it takes longer the first minutes after booting (it gets smooth afterwards) and the system becomes less responsive when I enter the apps mantainance tool and you must be tidy when activating and deactivating the usb mode.

Preload Google Maps images and maps -> Mobile GMaps!

Hi guys,
I wrote a guide for installing Mobile GMaps on another forum.
I'll paste it here also and I hope it will be of some help for somebody.
Problem:
I have tried Google Maps for Mobile. Gorgeous. Unfortunately requires a connection and there is no possibility so far of saving maps :-(
Solution:
Mobile GMaps. http://www.mgmaps.com
It's a java application that load maps from different providers (yahoo, Windows live, google, ask.com and some others). It has a GUI really similar to Google Maps and it runs smoothly on my tornado (sp5) even if it is a java application. It has some features that Google does not have but it does not have the positioning system without GPS based on radio cell tracking (whereas Google has it).
Here it's the guide. As always I'm not responsible for any loss of data, for any fees you might pay for air data connection and for any alien invasion.
I do suggest to take a look to the step by step guide.
Quick start
Install Application
1. Install a java virtual machine (j2me) on your smartphone. I used JBed: http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/Jbed.rar
2. Download the application: http://wap.mgmaps.com/mgmaps-signed.jad and http://wap.mgmaps.com/mgmaps.jad and copy them in the root of the smartphone
3. Install the application (signed) using JBed
Download the maps
4. Setup the area of the map you want to download using http://www.mgmaps.com/create/
5. Install gMapMaker on your PC: http://www.mgmaps.com/cache/gMapMaker-setup.exe
6. Download the maps on your PC using gMapMaker and the map file you created in step 4
7. Copy the maps on your smartphone.
8. Setup Mobile GMaps in order to pick up the stored Map ("Settings" -> "Map Browsing", enable "Stored Maps", enter the path to your maps in "Storage Path", enable "Offline mode")
Step by Step
1. You need a java virtual machine. I followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339577
You can choose among different j2me http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletB...ityAndMain.html
I ended up on choosing Esmertec Jbed. I had no problem in installing on my smartphone (wm6) on the storage card.
Here it's the link: http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/Jbed.rar
On the Mobile GMaps website they suggest the one from IBM but you need to register. If you wanna go with IBM's follow this guide: http://www.mgmaps.com/winset/
2. Now you need the actual application. The generic version can be found here: http://wap.mgmaps.com/get.php?version=13&a...submit=Download
Basically you need the jad file (_signed_) and the jar file. Copy both of them with Active sync in the root of your smartphone.
3. Launch Esmertec Jbed. Select "Menu" -> "Install" -> "Local Files". Then select "mgmaps-signed". Follow the installation instruction basically agreeing on everything ;-).
It will ask to launch the Midlet and it will ask for many authorizations for accessing internet. This is the first time the application is running and it is retrieving all the information on the web. Thus, I strongly suggest to have the smartphone connected with activesync on a computer with internet connection. This will avoid the use of GPRS connection.
The application now should correctly running but it does not have any map saved locally yet. Note that the jar and jad files that you have copied on your smartphone can now be removed.
4. To download the map you are interested in go to this website:
http://www.mgmaps.com/create/
Choose the area that you need to pick up (just click on the map to form a polygon). Try not to exaggerate since the more you pick the more you'll have to save on your smartphone. I chose the downtown area of a fairly big canadian city and it took me 13MB for only the map without the satellite images (not bad at the end).
In this website you can choose how many zoom levels you want (given 0 the view of the world and 17 the closest zoom). Level of detail is nothing related to the detail of the map but rather how is gonna be tiled the area you have chosen.
Click "Generate!" and this will create a file containing the coordinates of the area you have chosen.
5. Install "gMapMaker" on your PC in order to download the maps. You can find it here: http://www.mgmaps.com/cache/gMapMaker-setup.exe
For more informations about the installation refer to this: http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?t=1116
6. Launch gMapMaker. Choose the download folder (where your maps will be saved).
Operating mode has to be set to "MGMaps mode, use a .map file".
Pay attention that if you are downloading also satellite images your ip might be temporarily banned by google. In this case use the proxy (see guide linked at step 5).
Click on "Go!" and load the file you have generated in step 4.
The maps now are going to be downloaded.
7. Copy the maps with Active Sync in a folder on your smartphone.
8. Launch again Mobile GMaps. Click on "Menu" (left soft key). Select "Settings" -> "Map Browsing". Enable "Stored Maps".
Choose a folder from "Storage Path". The application will ask again for authorization for reading local files. You should give the authorization and tell him not to ask anymore. Note that if you have not installed from the signed application there is not possibility to tell him to shut up ;-)
You might want also to enable "Offline mode": "the phone will use the internet connection only for searches or GPS tracking, and never for retrieving any map tiles" (read second post here: http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?p=3162 ).
You will be asked to restart the application. Done!!!!
Hope you will enjoy it!!!!
[Damn!!! I hoped the guide would have been shorter!!!]
Thanks for the guide! I have also been playing around with MGMAPS for a while and got it to work with IBM's J9 decently. Unfortunately it doesn't give highres output for some reason, but GPS is working with that midlet manager. Did you somehow manage to connect a GPS unit with JBED? Mine keeps telling me that no GPS is abailable.
I'm sorry but I don't have a GPS
If with highres output you mean QVGA then JBed does the job. It does have only a small problem (as pointed out here: http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/CompatibilityAndMain.html) _before_ launching the application:
http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/GmailVoxInvisibleBottom.png
how do i uninstall gMapMaker from my PC? there isnt an uninstall option and it isnt located in add/remove programs under control panel.
@NguyenHuu: You don't need to uninstall it - it never registers anything outside of the folder where you put it and you can just delete all the files to completely get rid of it.
@soalle: I meant 640x480 resolution which JBED does fine, but with IBM's J9 something seems to go wrong as the maps are indeed QVGA. The difference is quite visible and so I hope that I can get it to run in the higher resolution with GPS. QVGA + GPS is second choice as with being able to track your location the program becomes a true lifesaver (I'm in Japan right now and mobile data is expensive as hell for WM devices). ANd thank you for the great overview - I didn't know that page yet. Seems as if there's not much hope for now... Nokia sure shows how midlets should be run with the N95 - shame on MS for not including a decent midlet manager.
Thanks. That is what I figured and deleted it before you responded, haha. Just to be safe I kept a copy of the install incase I needed to reinstall before I can uninstall again if that caused any problems.
The program itself has great potential, but it requires a good amount of work to map out everything precisely. Even though, I will keep this as a backup for future use. Thanks for the tutorial.
I usually stick with roughly sketched city maps (zoom level 17) as everything larger above zoom level 16 gets too big anyway. No need to see FAT32 choke with 200.000 files It would be great if they could find a way to store multiple tiles in larger container files, but it seems to be impossible as the developer stated in a forum post on his page.

Does JBed work for GPS + highres? Have you tried it?
does it work on ppc phones? i have xda orbit [ htc p3300 ] with inbuilt gps receiver and it always throws no gps error.
does anyone know how to overcome this issue?
i am having my device running on WM6.
thanks
I don't have a ppc with GPS so I cannot really help you sorry... try to look for the answer on the forum of mobilegmaps...
so with this do you need GPS ?
or have i been reading it all wrong ?
sorry for the late reply... i have been in vacations for a while ;-)
So no need of GPS, but clearly it won't give you your position ;-) Obviously you can still use it for browsing maps.
didnt work for me
it doesnt even detects my gps (
MGMAps and Internal GPS
Hi,
My internal gps does not work with MGMAPS. Is there any workaround to the same. I have a HTC P3300 with Windows mobile 6 and internal GPS. It works on COM4 port Kindly help
Regards,
Kailash
Do we have to copy cache folder in a memory card. My cache folder is now 980 mb size on disk and it contains 242946 files and 701 folders
This worked for me.. I tried it several months ago. However, it seems the maps get saves in SOOO many small files that the file nodes take up much more space than the actual data. Storing the whole US at any reasonable zoom level is impossible on my 6Gb card, and would take forever to download anyway.
gmap
this is seriously very very good. Just love it.
I have just done some testing with googlemaps and yahoo.
This application is very good indeed, it works very well, it is also rather fast.
You can also spare a lot of money on traffic with it.
Thank you very much
I have downloaded the Maps perfectly fine and have everything sorted out but I just cant get the actual application installed.
I have downloaded both of the Jar and Jad files, and I am attempting to run the Signed-Jar file however when I get so far through the installation on my XDA Orbit it comes to the error message: "File Error ???".
Is there any way of getting by this?
Any help is appreciated
A solution for the internal GPS issue (For example P3300) which couldn't be used with mgmaps has been made. Found it out yesterday. You can find it on the mgmaps forum at http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?t=1829&highlight=p3300 .tried it out on my P3300 and works as a charm!

FLASHING Cortex A8 Freescale imx515 - Herotab m802 / Step by Step + screenshoots

Hello,
Sorry for my english, try to be kind with a french geek
I thought it would be great to give to the community a tutorial step by step with pistures and screenshoots
Here is the method i used to open the tablet and flash the ROM when i "bricked" it while trying to activate Google accounts
This ROM is not really an update, i prefer asking it rescue ROM for bricked tablets.
"HOW TO FASH THE TABLET" - TUTORIAL in english :
docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=false&embedded=true &srcid=0B96pdh3MCBWgNDVjMjdiNTMtY2E2YS00ZWYzLThmYj ItN2U0ZmY3N2E0NDFh&authkey=COyCmKsH&hl=en
(copy link in your browser adress bar)
CUSTOM ROM :
docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B96pdh3MCBWgNDJhMTIxNTktNmE3Yi00MjI4LThjN zQtODkzNDc0MzAyZTc3&sort=name&layout=list&num=50
(copy link in your browser adress bar)
Unfortunately, the Android Market has been disabled due to too many issues. But alternativ markets have been installed to make your life easier ;-)
IMAGE FLASHING TOOL - it is still the same, but if you need it :
apad-france.fr/components/com_agora/img/members/268/usbit.zip
(copy link in your browser adress bar)
CHANGES
:
• Remove unneeded or Chinese apps (AppStore + HANDONAPP + Agpsstatus) which unnecessarily polluted the tablet memory.
• Enabling Google accounts
• GMAIL
• GOOGLE TALK
• MAPS: LATITUDE option functional (visibility of your Google contacts on the card)
• Alternative MARKETS: SlideME + APKTOR (very interesting market because of the possibility to add sites apps url to enhance the catalog of applications - for that Google search is my friend)
• Video Player: MPlayer (nicer than the original video app)
:
This is a "beta" version so are not fully functional:
• HARD RESET or restore to the factory datas. I did not yet managed to change the restore file, so if you HARD RESET tablet, you will restore all the craps from original firmware ... sorry ☹ So the only way to restore this custom ROM is to flash the tablet.
• Android Market: i can not keep system stability (I unfortunately am not computer) and the tablet "Brick" systematically. I decided not to install Google Market in this version. This will be the subject of the next version i hope☺
• Reccuring error message "closing framework ..." just click on" force quit ". No impact on the operating system running.
ON THE FIRST BOOT (Google account activation) :
• You see the the welcome message with ANDROID logo and the clicking hand (take the opportunity to change the language if necessary)
• Click the screen 4 corners in the direction of clockwise starting at the top left corner and going to the right
• Select "SetupWizard ..." in the selection list that appears
• You will be able to set up Google accounts - If you do not automatiicly enter Google accounts set up, go back to the desktop and select GMAIL.
• You can now enter your Google Account login (gmail address without extension "gmail.com") + password gmail
(If the wifi is off - back to the office with the small house at the top right of the screen. Go to Settings / WiFi / and select your WiFi network and enter the WEP key if your network it is protected. Once connected, return to the office and launch GMAIL)
Your Google account is activated
• SORFT RESET (paperclip in the small hole beside the plug in iPod) - the tablet reboots by itself
You often closing the message framework, but it's not important, go further by clicking on "force quit"
You can change synchronization settings (menu button) and also in the google accounts settings (phone settings: Account and synchonisation)
Have fun with this ROM !!!
If somebody wants to find the way of xternal miniSD or USB flashing it would be great !!
Thanks for the guide, very useful.
What type of problems are you having getting Market working? Does logcat show anything?
I have also had some issues to get it to run properly, as well as getting the Contact/Calendar sync running. Will try flashing your ROM.
http://www.shenit.com/utopia-apad-imx515-8-inch-android-2-2-tablet-freescale-arm-cortex-a8.html
Is that this device that you are operate with ?
I find that, the internal storage of /data really small, event Froyo 2.2 has Apps2SD, still not enough to me to install more apps, but given large 4G SD internal are there, just not making use if it.
Any easy script to relink them so can expand /data ?
thanks
James
Hello
Yes this is the tablet i'm working on
You can change memory allocation puting your system SD card in a miniSD card reader and changing partitions allocations with windows XP system tool (the one you use to change your HDD partitions allocations)
But now you can find a flashing external tool on a sd card sold by "androidtouchpc" website - You don't need my ROM anymore
Best regards
I notice that, during the boot of apad 2.2;
I push middle button + right side of button + power on.
I am getting a text mode selection menu, it has 5~6 selection.
-. reboot system now
-. update update.zip
-. update /system
-. update nandroid
-. update boot.img
-. wipe data
-. wipe cache partition
something like that.... since I am in the office, I need check it again from home to confirm.
In this case, will it be easlier doing update in this way ?
thanks
James

I am curious...
What's the point of opening the Ipad? you did'nt include in your instructions how to flash the ROM
The flashing tool from Androidtouchpc is already available on Slatedroid in the Cortex A8 forum.
It will not work with your download ROM as yours is a disc image and the flashing tool works via an update image.
If you would like PM me and I will try and help you.

To : Jefflyonfr,
you USB tool not able to resize from image to a larger SD card, 8 or 16GB. Do you know any tool can resize Android partition ?
Shaking problem solution is available here , on slatedroid forum in english :
slatedroid.com/index.php?topic=12192.msg99436;topicseen#msg99436
The post explaines something like that :
"The problem (for me anyway) is a that touchscreen plate is being squashed or deformed by cheap ass top cover. It is causing lots of junk touches be generated when you press it because of the warps in the plastic. That is why it works so much better when the cover is off. Its a noisy touchscreen but you can get it back down to "acceptable" levels for the touch driver's sample averaging algorithm to handle.
This is nothing to do with EMI or any fancy electrical stuff.. just crap design and workmanship quality.
This is a (and I mean relatively.. ) easy fix by adding a shim under the edges of touchscreen so there is little or no pressure on the screen itself and/or shaving off some plastic off the stand where the LCD screen sits. You need to make sure that the touch screen is not warped or twisted in any way. If you have ever tried to mod an EEEPC netbook with a third party touch screen, then you would know what I mean. mmm.. I'm guess not many of you guys here have. "

Androidtouchpc.com released SL-A8, HEROTAB dual speaker firmwares last night
Androidtouchpc.com has came through once again for all those with the Touch8 Max or the SL-A8 (Utopia model) or the dual speaker Herotab. We are finishing up another clone model and that will be released shortly as well, but if you have either of the 2 models mentioned, visit us on the web and support our efforts. We have put in a lot of time with this release and appreciate all the support. We now have a full Android Market, we have tested the other methods out there, but this is the only true 100% market. We also addressed the G-sensor for the models mentioned. If your model was not mentioned, be patient as we will have those releases shortly. Once again thanks for the support as we will have more to come.....
Hi there jefflyonfr,I have one of that Cortex A8 Tablet with badly shaking screen
the method given is very interesting and I will try to do it,but first
How do I open the back cover of the unit?? (no screws)
Can you give a step by step instructions
What type of material you use for the "shim"
Have been to slatedroid web site but could not understand the instructions
This is my first Android Tablet also first time O/S user so please bear with me

[Guide] Android x86 3.2 HoneyComb on x86 Tablets/Laptops

I've written this guide for those interested in the new x86 port of Honeycomb. The hardware side of x86 is a bit tricky so not every machine works out of the box, but most of the basics should work.
I will follow up with my attempts at rooting this device. Previous x86 builds of Android had root enabled but it appears these ones don't.
Android 3.2 x86 Review
PXD Thread Corporation China Tablet
1.6Ghz Intel Atom/1GB RAM/60GB HDD/10.1" Capacitive Screen
Before you install decide whether you will be multi-booting or running Android exclusively. If you are multi-booting, check out the many threads on various forums and Google.
Step 1: Download latest Android 3.2 from android-x86.org. Don't download anything from androidx86.org as they are out of date and merely copy what is posted elsewhere. When downloading Android 3.2, download an appropriate version for your hardware. If you have a tablet with a touchscreen, grab the Tegra release. If you have an EEEPC, grab the EEPC release. There is a generic version for any old hardware. Note that I have only installed Android on x86 Intel. I have not tried with AMD.
Make sure your HDD has no partitions. The Android installer is very picky about partitions. If you boot using a Windows 7 install DVD and choose "Repair Computer" and open Command Prompt, these are the basic commands to wipe your disk. (Backup First!!!)
diskpart
list disk
(usually disk 0 is always your internal, but check list to make sure just in case you have external plugged in)
select disk 0
clean
exit
Ignore any diskpart errors, the clean command will have cleaned enough for Android to work.
Boot into Android installer. Select disk partitioner. You will use arrow keys and Enter to navigate. Highlight "New" and make new partition. Now highlight "Bootable" and hit Enter. Then you MUST highlight "Write" as so far the partitioner is just visualizing everything. It will ask you to type "yes" to confirm. Once complete you can highlight Quit and go back to Android installer.
Format partition as Ext2. If you want read/write access for debug you can enable that. But note this is development only, it doesn't give you root or other ability. Say yes you want to install GRUB. You can optionally make a fake SD card, once I figure out how to make it active it will make things run smoother for you. Many apps refuse to run without SD. (The x86 info pages on developers website have old info posted that dates back to android 1.6, so I need to see if updated info exists as far as mounting fake SD.img)
Ethernet is broken in many builds, but WiFi does work for a select few chipsets. Mine is a AR5B95 Half Height and WiFi works out of box.
If WiFi works for you latest builds should have complete Market Access (The Tegra does for sure as that's what I'm using) so you can login using Google id. Once you login with your id you will see an application crash, it's Exchange Services process. This is a bug, it can't be fixed but everything still works. You can check gmail, go to market, etc.
Do note when you access the market, you will not see the full market like your phone sees it. It seems the Tegra (and possibly other) builds are tagged as "Tablet" so Android Market filters and only shows "tablet approved" apps.
The good news about the x86 branch is that USB Flash support is there so you can put files, APK's on a USB flash drive and use File Manager to browse to /mnt/USB/. If your USB device is not recognized, did you have it plugged in while booting? Android won't always see it that way. Unplug and plug back in and Vold should catch it.
Don't try and install launchers, as the system may not allow you to select them and leave the system in a rather awkward position. Workaround: If you do try a launcher and you can't get back home, click on the clock in the lower right corner and you should be able to scroll over a few options. A link to settings should be there, and from settings you can uninstall any launcher that caused a problem and start again. I did find that ICS Launcher did work, but that was the only one.
Allot of apps simply don't work. It depends how they were built. Many were built specifically for ARM CPU and so panic when run on x86.
The built in keyboard isn't that great, at least on my tablet, so you can install extra keyboard from market or directly from apk. AI Type is a good keyboard. Text prediction is a trial, but the keyboard itself is free.
My next post will be to list applications I have tried and what the status is. I have a bunch I am trying.
I also want to figure out how to enable root on the device, I may try and pick up a USB to USB cable and see if ADB can pick up the connection so I can use ZergRush and root the device. I did see an app to enable adb over wifi but it needs root..which is a chicken and egg scenario.
Compatibility Report
Android 3.2 Honeycomb x86
I'll start this report off with an interesting find, although probably not unexpected. I purchased a 64GB flash drive and it's formatted as FAT32. Android does not recognize it. My A-DATA 32GB it did recognize. Same with my Lexar 16GB.
Known Bugs:
Android x86 has bugs with default actions. If you have multiple applications that can handle various file types, normally you will receive a pop-up menu asking you to select the application you want to use. In Android 3.2 x86 this doesn't happen and instead the screen will dim as if it's trying to load the menu option.
Some applications like Documents To Go work perfect if you open them from the launcher. However if you open a document directly they will crash.
Don't queue too many apps for installation as some apps will cause x11 server (windows manager) to crash or require restart. You will notice this happen if the screen or UI elements stop responding. The screen will go black and the Android logo will shimmer on the screen as the system reset the window manager.
This list is not complete, as I have time I will test more apps. If anyone has a request that I test certain apps let me know.

[Video Guide] Samba Filesharing for Android - Share your SD Card over a Network

Samba Filesharing for Android - Share your SD Card over a Home Network (ROOT Required)
Hi there. I thought I'd share another video with you all...
If you hate using a USB cable to transfer files from your phone's SD Card
(or FAT32 internal storage) to your PC, a Samba file sharing server is arguably
one of the best solutions - assuming you have a rooted phone, that is....
In this video, I go through the basic steps of configuring the server on your
phone, as well as the stages required to connect to your device over a home
network.
Viewable in full resolution (up to 1080p) here: http://youtu.be/gX3etC8X1ys
Play Store link to the app is here: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba
Minimum Requirements (from developer):
- Android device running Android 2.0.1 or above
- The phone must be rooted
- You should have Superuser 2.3.6.1 or later installed
Specification of demo equipment:
- Rooted HTC Sensation running Android 4.0.3 (ICS)
- Superuser v3.0.7 (Su binary v3.0.3.2)
- Samba Filesharing Build: 111107m
- Windows 7 PC (x64)
Note for NON ROOTED viewers:
If you don't have a rooted phone, you may want to consider using the FTP server method instead. I've created a video for that method here: http://youtu.be/TwjYm7fWwB8.
*** HELP & FAQ: ***
Additional Operating System Support (coming soon):
-Windows Vista (method shown in video should work)
-Windows XP (pending...)
-Mac OS X:
I don't currently have a Mac to test this on, but I think the following should work:
a) Press Command+K to launch the “connect to server” dialogue
b) Enter smb://ANDROID (or use the format smb://ServerName)
c) Click on the “+” icon if you want to save as a favourite
d) Press Connect
e) Enter your Username and Password when prompted & press connect again
f) You should then be able to browse the contents of your phone as a local folder.
Assigning a Drive Letter:
Assigning a drive letter to your phone's SD card is not something that I recommend as a standard procedure over the network - for most people it will just lead to headaches. Having said that, I can see a small handful of situations (like certain sync software) where it might be helpful. Assuming that the Samba Server is up and running on your phone, your SD Card can be allocated a drive letter by using the Map Network Drive Wizard in Windows.
1) In the Map Network Drive Wizard - select a drive letter
2) Click the 'Browse' button
3) Navigate to the phone's SD Card, select it and press OK.
4) I recommend that you un-check the option to reconnect at logon
5) Press finish. Job done.
More help coming soon....
*** TROUBLESHOOTING ***
App Hangs when Starting / Stopping the Server:
When testing this app, I initially experienced this issue myself. In my case, the phone would report that the app had stopped responding, but if I tapped 'Wait' (instead of 'Close') at the prompt, the server would fire up shortly afterwards.
The problem turned out to be linked with the version of 'SuperSU' that I was using. SuperSU is a great new superuser management tool by the developer Chainfire (and has now replaced 'Superuser' in some ROM's like ARHD). However, for the purpose of this video, I switched back to 'Superuser', which solved the problem immediately.
I didn't spend a huge amount of time trying to find a fix my problem with SuperSU, so there may be a simple solution that I overlooked. I need to look into this some more. If anyone already has an answer, please feel free to drop me a line.
Developer's FAQ & Help:
A number of common issues are listed on the developer's page here: http://www.sites.google.com/site/funkyfreshapps/
I'll add more info when I can.
Enjoy!
Bugsy.
i have set it up and it is working nicely..
only comment that its not really fast..for large size files its not really handy.. the max write speed i got is around 2mb/s
I have problems making the USB Mass storage working so this App is perfect it's just to bad I'm also getting only 2 MB/sec even with a really good rooter. (netgear WNDR3700v3)
edit : For the record copying from my desktop to my laptop goes at 5.7MB/sec
This app is sooooo good. brilliant! Speed not the best but i can still copy a 400mb rom in about 2 minutes and i can stream 20mbps hd video with no problem.
oh and there was an update for superSU today that fixes the lag/freeze problem. happy days
---------- Post added at 02:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 PM ----------
nice video too by the way. sorry i forgot to say
Hi guys,
Apologies for taking a while to respond - I got called away for a couple of days.
I find the Samba file sharing method to be generally more responsive than the FTP method that I showed in my last video. However, transfer speeds are indeed a bit slower (I personally get about 2.5 - 3MB/sec at best). Hopefully future releases will offer some improvements, but there will be limitations to how far those improvements can go with our Sensation’s.
Because the Sensation supports wireless 802.11n, it’s not uncommon for people to believe that they will achieve a 150/300Mbps connection with a wireless n router. Unfortunately that isn’t the case though. I may be wrong, but I think the Sensation uses the Broadcom BCM4329 chip for Wifi & Bluetooth, which will offer offering a peak link speed somewhere in the region of 65Mbps. That is of course a theoretical maximum. Realistic speeds for most people (regardless of the method you use) will rarely top 50-60% of that (about 4-5MB/Sec).
If you want to check your own phone’s link speed, you can do so by pressing the menu button and going SETINGS > WIFI > then tap on the name of your connection. If you’re below 65Mbps there may be room for improvement.
All in all, I do find Samba Filesharing worthy of consideration, but it won’t be blisteringly fast if you want to empty your card of a few gigabytes worth of photos and videos.
Cheers,
Bugsy.
Wow - very cool!
just wanted to let you know on the Mac front, all your instructions are perfect but you only need to use smb://ANDROID <-- not with the /sdcard addition - mac automatically mounts the sdcard folder. works perfectly though, fantastic for small files!
Thanks

if you want as an alternative solution for file sharing between your device and pc you can use team viewer app
Thx for your answer.
What I actually need is to play music from my phone on the home network.
I made a network with xp on my laptop. I connected my WD live media hub on that network.
So now I can reach the laptop files from the WD player but I'd like to connect my android as well...
Sent from my LT18i using xda app-developers app
I just use WellFTP Server 2.4.3. It's also free from the market. I don't remember what speeds I got as I rarely use it but it wasn't too bad. Will test it later on and post back if I remember
