I'm Not sure. I didn't test it on AOSP. It just changes the action of what the search button does.
Useful for anyone also misled by the naming of the thread, LaunchKey is an app on the market which lets you bind the long-press of the search key to any app, including camera. It is useful because it lets you keep the search key for searching, although not voice searching, and the camera app as well.
In Market: $0.96
On XDA: Free
Using the search key instead of the screen to take the pic sounds REALLY useful though, must try.
Maybe a better thread name? or does this also remap to launch the camera app?
Orrr.......
Or get FX Camera Zoom... which allows you to remap to any button also does voice activation for the camera... plus more features... HD etc the list goes on

Hi, I can't find a way to search contacts while typing their name or number in the stock dialer.
I mean, if I type the first two digits of my gf number in my old i5500, it showed her name. Is it possible on this device to do the same, without resorting to external apps (like I'm doing right now with aContacts)?
Thanks.
My Nexus S, for your info, is a i9023 SCLCD, rooted, using NSCollab.
There are few dialer apps on the market that do this. Dialer one, Go Contacts and dialer 2 are 3 that I have used. Also do a search for T9 Dialer. Enjoy, cheers.

Yeah, I know. Did you actually read my post?
I'm using aContacts, I was just wondering if it was possibile to do this in the stock dialer, or there was a modded dialer apk, who knows
Sorry I did it but I guess I read it too quickly or you edited it while I was typing. Hope you find an answer.

No problem Thanks for the help anyway!
You can hit the search key when on the contacts tab, but that's as close as you'll get without using a 3rd party app.
I see. That's funny, because a low-end phone like the i5500 had this really useful feature integrated in the OS. Go figure.
Yeah, I don't get it either.
I've become quite fond of GO Contacts, though.
I just tried mydialer, it is smokin fast. I like go as well. Bummer that GB doesn't have this as stock.
Go Contacts is better than aContacts, thanks It's even better than default contacts
Hello,
Has anyone noticed that you no longer have the "select input method" notification in update 7? I had it in update 4. When I went over to update 7 (and subsequently 8), that option is missing. So the only way to change input method is to go all the way into settings. The notification is available after the base zx install, but the update wipes it out. Is there a simple setting somewhere to turn it back on? I searched in this and the dev forums and cannot find it.
Otherwise it's a great ROM. Thanks dev!
This is a one time thing. U don't change input method all the time on the fly. It is a bug none the less, but one that may only bother a select few users... maybe only u
Did the dev explicitly say that? GB was long press in the input part to bring up the option to change input method. I'm pretty sure the notification is ICS's replacement, as the stock Nexus does this. You have to explicitly turn it off in a custom rom. Some kind of shortcut is needed for many many multi-lingual users. I use English most of the time except for a chat app. Don't have to have the notification if bothers others, but a shortcut to bring up the dialog should definitely be available.
seanzscreams, can you please comment? It's a great ROM and thanks.

base to update changes a lot
I've noticed that the non-wipe updates on this ROM do change or eliminate some of the cooler features of the base. For instance, the settings in the base have the different colored, more detailed icons, while the update changes them all to boring blue.
As for the input method, I believe that in ICS, you change that under settings, language and input. In ICS, you can choose multiple keyboards or input methods, with one as "default". I haven't experimented yet, but perhaps the option to switch only shows up if you have multiple input methods selected? Can anyone verify this?
I'm new, so I hope this helps...
EDIT: Yeah, I tried checking off three different keyboards, but the long-press feature isn't there. Now I remember the notification bar change in ICS. The only way I can find to change the keyboard in this ROM is to go into settings and change the default. Not too bad of a task, but more tedious than before. There may be some shortcut apps in the play store that could help?
Isnt there an option on your status / menu bar... That's were it is in smooth ice

You'll make that in the next week.......!!
Thanks LPMatt and droid512. I know in most other ICS ROMs, including stock, the standard way to change input method is to use the little icon in the status bar. That's what I meant by "change input method notification". I also know you can always go through settings to change. To go through settings, I would have to get out of the app I'm using and it's a lot of hassle. Dating back to eclaire Android has provided the shortcut (used to be long press until ICS changed it to the notification/status bar). Looks like Sky ICS ROM latest update just disabled a standard feature, either intentionally or unintentionally. While icenight89 is quite knowledgeable in general, I think he's misinformed about the nature of the feature because he doesn't have to use different keyboards for different languages. It is indeed a standard feature in ICS, not a "one time thing" or bug. I don't have enough posts to post in the dev forum that's why I posted here to see if any other multi-lingual user of Sky ICS has encountered this. I have also PM'ed the dev.
I'm quite knowledgeable?? Aww shucks, thanks friend.
To be honest, u are absolutely correct, I am not a multi-lingual user so I did not even know this feature was present. Based on the discussion I assume your talking about a quick select shortcut from the drop down menu that let u change ur keyboard on the fly?
If that is so its quite possible and highly likely he disabled it in the latest update, as that feature would be present in either systemui.apk or framework-res.apk, all of which were updated in D-7. My advice? See if u can get D-6 off someone then flash the base, D-6 and then D-8 until he gets around to fixing it

See you just proved your knowledge in pointing out the 2 possible apk that is present I think D-8 probably has a new one so flashing D-6 then D-8 would overwrite it again. I'll see if I can pull those apk's and use rom kitchen to make a new one until he gets around to changing it. Who knows, it's possible he did it on purpose as i have seen people complain about it since ICS came out. Most non-multilingual users find it annoying. I actually do too. I prefer the old long press way! Thanks again.
nope, just checked. He only changed the framework-res.apk in the D-8 update. What i suggest you do is pull systemui.apk from the original base first and replace it with root explorer. If that fixes it then you can safely flash the new update rom kitchen just the one apk.

Well tried to put systemUI.apk from zx2 base and didn't work. I guess I'll see if dev will respond or put it back in later. If not, I'll have to decide if the hassle is worth it or change to another ROM. Thanks everyone.
NATIVE SIP functionality is built into the stock ROM, Here is how I found it...
First, you'll need to download Launcher Pro Plus (go to 4 Shared and find the app). Once downloaded, longpress on your homescreen and chose "Shortcuts", then "Activities", then "Phone', then scroll down to the "Sip Settings" listing (which accesses com.android.phone.sip.SipSettings). Click on it and it will make a shortcut on your homescreen. You have found the SIP Menu built into the framework of your stock ROM! Below the Sip Settings option are two others under the listing "Phone", which access com.android.phone.sip.SipEditor, and com.android.phone.SipCallOptionHandler. Hope this helps everyone out. I poured through line after line of code only to realize the answer was under my nose the whole time!
{{{NOTE: The two options in red do not open up to any menus, but the first one in green is a GO}}} FYI, I don't even think you need to be rooted to do this.
Also, there are settings to mess around with the SIM lock and SIM PIN, carrier settings, and other functions and menus that I always see in the system apps but can never seem to access. A lot of these shortcuts open up to user interface menus. Awesome!
And props to Arrrghhh, you indeed were correct in assuming that it was the carrier that probably limits access to SIP options. However, it seems that it is not actually removed from the build, only the option is removed from the Call Settings Menu, and the settings are somehow disabled from sticking, unfortunately. Check it, once you access the SIP Menu, press the scroll back button in the very top left-hand corner of the page. It'll drop you back off at call settings. Is there a way to possibly edit the actual Phone.apk or Settings.apk, that one may replace the SIP option back in the menu??? Hit me up.
Nice to know its a bit ugly to be forced to install an additional launcher just for the activits, but maybe after setup it could be purged.
also nice now being able to disabl sim-pin (i searched for it in the native menu but did not find anything)
Only question I have so far:
how do one make an actual SIP/VoiP call with native phone app?

Well, truthfully I haven't had time to enter my SIP credentials and test it yet...but will later and will post results.
I believe that once info is entered and account is set up, it should ask when I make a call whether I wish to place it via voice or internet (data). We'll see...

Nice you found it!
In order to modify this stuff (which is do-able, but can cause bootloops if not done correctly) you will probably need to de-compile the APK.
Otherwise, if you had the source - you could just modify the overlay. But I would think it's still possible - or even some other way to launch this app without having to install a 3rd party launcher.
You can use activity manager. eg.
Code:
am start com.android.phone/.sip.SipSettings
in adb or terminal emulator.

So, I have downloaded ROMzilla from XDA member digitalhigh, and am going to decompile some stuff and see if I can throw it back together and have it work. As it turns out, everytime I enter my SIP credentials and exit the SIP menu, the info I entered is automatically cleared. So there is some code that needs to be changed, if not within the Phone.apk then within the android framework. I am going to work on my PC with the stock ROMs that ShabbyPenguin posted and test it in Eclipse first. Let me know if there is any particular approach I should take. Thanks.

Of course they are, to find SIP settings you need first go to "Phone", when you tap it it will expand and you will find SIP settings there.
At least in paid version ADWLauncherEX, but I would be supprised if free version would not support that.

Maybe because this feature is checked only the first time you open the browser, try to clear its data.
Note that some of those csc features may NOT work as expected, Samsung keep adding new features but some them can be still broken, and some old ones that worked on older devices may aslo become broken (ex email black/white background).
So if any of the features did not work no need to blame the App.

Actually it is NOT possible, Samsung store all the feature as hash table of String, i still can do some inaccurate parsing and detect the type of filled ones but there is no way i can get the type of an empty csc feature, that's why i prefer to keep it open type.

Probably because some jurisdictions require the shutter sound and it is technically "illegal" to disable it in those places. I'm sure someone somewhere would blame Samsung for making it too easy to commit such a crime!
