.NET CF initialization error in windows 6.1 - General Questions and Answers

Hey everone,
i have an issue with my samsung jack running wm6.1.
The other day i opened a app which i use every day (sxradio2) and i get the following:
Error
"this application requires a newer version of the microsoft .net compact framework than the the version installed on this device"
when i press quit to end the app i then get this:
.NET CF initialization error
ERROR
the application failed to load required componets. if the .net compact framework is installed on a storage card, please ensure that this card is in its place and launch the app again. if this fails a re-installion of the .net cf is recomended. support info:- 2147483643 (80000005)
i know for a fact that when i installed this several months ago that it was installed on the device and not the sd card. when i look thur the registry with an editor and look at the values of i get:
2.0.7045.00 / value data=0
3.5.7283.00 / value data=1
which leads me to belive that the 2.0 version is inactive and the 3.5 version is attive.
When i try to re-install .NET CF 3.5 the phone then tells me that it is already installed an stops the installation.
I'm not new to windows based phones and tweaking them but i would not consider myself a "veteran" either.
i searched the forums already and didnt find any help and didnt want to hijack a thread that may or may not help.
would really apperciate any help that may resolve this without having to hard reset.
thanks in advance!

I notice that you don't mention un installing .net 3.5 before trying to reinstall. Is this the case? It does appear in the remove programs list. And nothing adverse done to device prior to errors?
good day.

no sir
i did not un install it, and it does not appper in remove programs (but i remember it being there at one time).

Help: Cannot use software that require .net compact 2.0

I've install .net compact framework 2.0 in my XDA neo (lastest WM5 Dopod ROM AKU2.0).
Once, I install the program that require the .net, it cannot be open and have an error message like this:
An unexpected error has ocuured in
xxxxxx.exe
Select Quit and then restart this
program, or select details for more
information.
But, when I boot in safemode (by SPB pocketplus plugin) I can open that program correctly without any error!!!
It cannot be used in normal mode but it can be in safemode.
I've tried both install the .net in SD card or in Device, but the results are the same.
Could anyone help me? What's wrong on my device or anybody have the same problem like me?
Thanks in advance, guy.
First, it would help if you click 'details' and tell us what you see.
From what you wrote it is clear that the problem is not with CF 2 but with the particular app conflicting with one of the programs your device runs on start up.
What kind of plugins / utilities do you have that run in background? Try removing them one by one to see where the problem lies.
Also if you have a backup of your data, try hard resetting then installing on a clean device.

About HR, I plan to do it again this weekend. And I will install .net CF first then this program and test, and I will install each program after and test one by one. But, if it possible I want to know what's a problem before I do that.
Thanks guy for recommending.
What language is your device in?
This error sometimes occurs on regional settings that are not originally supported by the device.
Try changing you regional settings to English and see if it goes away.

coz if i din change the region to chinese,

[Q] .NET CF Install issues

I've got a Vogue with Sprint running the official 6.1 OS.
Lately I've been having issues running certain apps. The new Facebook app and ComicReader 1.5.2 are the latest examples. Launching the application gets me this error message:
The application failed to load required components. If the .NET Compact Framework is installed on a storage card, please ensure that this card is in place and launch the application again. If this fails, a re-installation of the .NET Compact Framework is recommended. Support info: -2147479552 (80001000).
I have uninstalled .NET CF 3.5 through Remove Programs, but when I try to re-install, the device gives me the message:
The .NET Compact Framework version you are attempting to install already exists in ROM.
Then the installer exits.
Any thoughts on how I can get this fixed?
When you install the .net compact framework it sets a registry setting saying it is enabled and i think this is that it looks for when trying to install.
Try deleting this from the registry:
"\local machine\software\microsoft\netcompactframework"
after deleting, reinstall

Well, it sort of did the trick. It worked for the two apps mentioned (facebook and comicreader) but now fails with the same error message when I try to launch FSD dialer which I just downloaded and re-installed.
sigh
~~Update: I've also discovered that I get 4 of these errors pop up on a soft reset now. I have no idea what's throwing them because so far I haven't noticed any startup items that do not work. It could be a latency issue I suppose, but I did install .NET on the device, not a storage card.
Well this is getting serious. I've uninstalled and reinstalled .NET but it's not helping. Although some programs that didn't work now do, several others like GWatch, GAlarm, DiamondTV, PianoNM, and a notepad application now do not work, and I get the same error. I find two of these missing component errors on the phone every morning, and four of them on every soft reset.
Please someone tell me I'm not looking at a hard reset...
AJ
Try this:
There is a Compact Framework 3.5 powertoy named '.Net Configuration' (see cab below). The application provides control over the .net CF on your device. Here's what you do:
- Install the CAB below (to internal memory!)
- Run '.Net Configuration' from your Start Menu
- Navigate to the 'Device Policy' tab and select version 3.5
- Select 'Apply' then 'OK'
This has worked for other issues like yours.
Yay! All better now. Thanks!
If you have problems after that config it may be your rom. Some roms have registry settings built into them and restorethem on a softreset.... just a heads up
i was having the same problem with proven 1.12 rom for touch pro and following your above advised solved the problem.
Thanks Joel once again.
Run \Windows\cgacutil.exe on your device and it will pop up a window that lists the version(s) of the .NET CF installed on your device. I assume it stands for CompactGlobalAssemblyCacheUtility, and probably reads the stuff straight out of the registry. Easier than hacking about in the there anyway.
cannot install .netconfig

PocketOutlook startup error

Lately I've started getting the following error dialogs on a soft reset of my Vogue:
Error #1:
File or assembly name 'Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook, Version-1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35', or one of its dependencies, was not found"
When I click QUIT on this, I get Error #2:
.NET CF Initialization Error
The application failed to load required components. If the .NET Compact Framework is installed on a storage card, please ensure that this card is in place and launch the application again. If this fails, a re-installation of the .NET Compact Framework is recommended. Support info: -21417483643 (80000005)
These errors do not seem to affect the performance of Outlook or anything else at all, they are just annoying.
I am currently running Windows Mobile 6.1, .NET CF 3.5 in device memory. I've tried reinstalling .NET to no avail.
Anyone have a clue what might be causing these errors and how I can get rid of them?
did you try a hardreset?

Install the attached Microsoft .Net Compact Framework v3.5. Also do the changes below :
Use a registry editor, go to path
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework and change DWORD 2.0.7045.00 from 1 to 0 and DWORD 3.5.7283.00 from 0 to 1.
By these, you install version 3.5 and set it as default instead of 2.0
What is the deal with CF Net 3.7? Is it the latest CF or is it a bogus program?
i needed that as well. thanks
NET CF 3.7 is for real.......
Read this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525138
Have it in my custom Rom aswell.....never issues with running programmes....
Thanks for the replies, i figured out the problem, I needed to connect the phone to the PC using ActiveSync and then run the setup I downloaded to the PC.
Surv!vor, just in case...... when you use CAB files than copy them to your phone using activesync.....and run them on your phone.....follow instructions....
Success......

Where can you find the Cab files? What are they called?
I'm having the same problem - I bought Droppedbox but I can't figure out how to get it to work on my HTC Diamond phone. It installed but won't run - I get the error that it needs a newer version of the .net compact framework. I installed a the 3.5 framwork on the PC (NETCFSetupv35.msi) with the phone connected, but it didn't install on the phone.
Not sure what to try next.
Use a registry editor, go to path
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework and change DWORD 2.0.7045.00 from 1 to 0 and DWORD 3.5.7283.00 from 0 to 1.
this path is in the phone? sorry for being such a noob
It's worth noting that Dropbox installed and worked perfectly on my Android tab, and on my wife's iPad, and on her Blackberry, and on our PCs. But I still can't get it to work on my Windows Mobile phone. I guess that's why people buy Android or Apple phones these days.
Just saying.

need to install .net framework 3.5 on my PPC

hello all
i've recently upgraded my ROM (HTC P3400i aka GENE)
when ever i try to install the .net framework on it it shows me error saying that a newer version is already installed but i have never installed it
also my .net files are also not working on it
here are some screenshots of the installation
plz if possible help me out
i've installed rom from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604370
Start File Explorer. Browse to \Windows\CGAUTIL.EXE and run it.
It will list all versions of the .NET CF framework installed on your device. Every Smartphone or PPC already has one version of the .NET CF in ROM.
Post the image of that.
\Windows\CGAUTIL.EXE

no such file available
Sorry, should be \WINDOWS\CGACUTIL.EXE
no such file available
i even tried to search
may be because i am using a non official ROM
should i try to flash another ROM?
You may have to flash another ROM to cure it. As a rough guide, .Net CF 1/1.1 was in WM2003/SE, 2.0 was in WinMo 5.0 , 3.0 was in WinMo 6.0 and 3.5 appears in WinMo 6.5.
They are 'supposed' to be backwardly compatible, but there are a lot of ifs and buts. I have .NET CF 1.1 programs that run quite happily on later versions, but I might have been just plain lucky!
also if the file is hidden explore may not show it try using a better file manager like total commander or reso
all right got it
it was hidden i guess so
thnx Rudegar for your comment
OK here is the screenshot for the

That message says that you already have .NET CF 3.5 installed on your device. The numbers following the 3.5 are build numbers, used by installations to detect later versions etc, hence the original message when you tried to install 3.5 above.
As mentioned earlier all devices have one .NET CF version already installed in the ROM.
It should work, even with programs created against previous versions, but, as I said, it is not an exact science. I'll see if I can come up with anything.
What .NET apps are you trying to run and what is the error/problem they present?
thnx stephj for your reply
i was trying to run btmusic

Right, this could be one of the weird things mentioned above.
The GENE was originally a WM 5.0 .NET CF 2.0 device. It appears the ROM you have flashed has .NET CF 3.5 installed in it as a minimum, preventing the retro installation of .NET CF 2.0, which is a stated requirement of the BTMusic software. It should work under 3.5, but maybe it's one of those that won't.
It may be considered a retrograde step, but it may be necessary to reflash the original ROM, in order to get it to work, or hang around until the software gets upgraded to .NET CF 3.5
Either of them are hardly ideal solutions.............
Anybody else any good ideas?...................
i hope i'll have to reinstall another OS lol
