[Q] Milestone Volume Mod? - Motorola Milestone Android Development

is there a way to boost the volume on my milestone?
I ahve good headphones with a mic, and the stereo audio isnt really the issue... I need the speaker-phone to be louder, because im often busy at work and unable to hold the phone, but still need to talk. I would just like to be able to hear my caller over all the noise. Also having the hand-set speaker be a bit louder would be cool too, but main concern is the speaker-phone.
I saw some mod on here that is only temporary, and it involves punching a code into the dialer & pushing some other buttons... i couldnt get it work.. because the instructions werent very clear.
-If you know of any way to boost the volume, please let me know.
-Thanks.

The Louder-Hack probably works...

[Q] Low Volumes

I purchased the HTC Inspire 4G exactly five days ago today primarily because it is hearing aid compatible. I think the phone has fantastic features and I really like it. However, the volumes are the worst I have ever heard on a cell phone. I am hearing deficient and I cannot hear this HTC when it rings. The volumes are turned to their max and still they are very low (both ring and notification). I have downloaded various ringtones and still the volumes are inadequate. I recently discovered that people that call me cannot hear me unless I use a headset for some reason. One would think that a cell phone which is hearing aid compatible would have volumes loud enough for the hearing impaired. I still have seven days to return this phone and I think it has to go unless I can find a solution to both problems. I have seen several places where people have flashed various ROMs to increase the volumes, but I am not interested in such a solution since it will violate the agreement with AT&T. With so many intelligent people/developers on this site, can someone help?
Hey man, I highly recommend rooting and installing a custom ROM. Every one I've tried on this device has louder volume and it's a recognized issue with this phone in it's stock form. ATT always botches the software on HTC phones and the folks here do a good job of cleaning up their mess. AT&T will not know (I've done this with 5 HTC devices now) anything about your rooting shenanigans unless you send it in for warranty replacement and it still turns on. If the screen is broken or the display otherwise does not work then there is no way they can tell using the methods they check with. They just try to turn it on and if the bootup is different than stock that's when they get mad. if you need to return your phone after rooting and flashign for warranty repair, then there are threads here to unroot (just use the stock rom updater; it flashes stock rom and radio and kills root but not s-off, but getting s-on isn't hard either). Go ahead and root/flash per the instructions in the dev section. I recommend twopumpchump's optimized stock ROM for starters. I haven't had an issue with it so far. If and when you need to warranty exchange your device, just PM me and I'll find the proper threads for you.
The volume on the inspire is really low compared to other handsets. At this point, some custom roms do increase the volume but not by very much.
The calling problem is probably a defect with the phone.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the responses. Well, although I did not want to root, it seems like my only option. I thought about returning the phone to AT&T and paying the $35 restocking fee and going to Verizon to buy the Thunderbolt, but after further taught, it doesn’t seem cost effective just for a front facing camera and a kickstand where the low volume might still be an issue. So, I will return the defective phone to AT&T since people can’t hear me on the other end and then root the new phone to increase the volume. Since this will be my first attempt at rooting and flashing a custom ROM, can either of you direct me to a link where I can lean the procession? I want to try twopumpchump's optimized stock ROM as recommended by DeathmonkeyGTX, but first I need to learn how to root and flash. Thanks!

CM7 Has an app called DSP manager which allows you to up the speaker volume. I set mine to a volume right before it gets so loud the speaker starts distorting and its perfect. I highly recommend cyanogenmod. Its what I used on my Nexus One, and its what im using on my inspire now!

Which will help with his call issue but not with the notification volume. I really miss the volume that my N1 had on CM7. This phone is great except that its so quiet.

No. It increases the external speaker volume too.
The only walk around I have found for notification loudness without flashing another rom has been to use a louder sound. Either made myself or found one. With the rom I am using I have to turn the volume down on notifications!

I can confirm. I found the volume to be very low coming from an iPhone 4. I downloaded the "8-Bit" sound pack from HTC Hub and found that most of these were significantly louder than the other options. I set a few for my notifications and can hear the phone now when getting texts and emails.
Non rooted stock Inspire 4G.
Hope this helps others!
I am using the 8bit sounds too.

If you flash CoreDroid 5.1 you will be turning down the volume on your notifications and alarms, at least I did. Even speakerphone is louder. Revolution is another that I found works exceptionall well. I think Coredroid is a little louder and clearer.

In call volume too loud

I am annoyed lately that whenever I get a phone call the volume of the person speaking is so gd loud. I turn in all volume all the way down and its still too loud. Anyone have any idea why this is and if there is a way I can fix it..

I have the same problem... Also had problem on the DINC. What you can do is go into the call settings and turn on hearing aids and that will actually help with the volume it lowers it a little...
Don't ask me why but this is an issue with the HTC's
Have you tried downloading audio manager from the market? Its a free app that allows you to change volume settings and for me it has been more accurate than the built in sound settings.

I have tried that and it did not seem to help as much as turning on hearing aids.
I think is not loud enough. I find myself trying to turn it up after is all the way up.

I am having the same problem on my rooted Thunderbolt.... any ideas how to fix it other than turning it all the way up on a call then turn the volume down? kinda gets annoying..
I agree, the call volume is very loud even though I have the volume turned all the way down. Doesn't bother me too much though...
If you're using BAMF by any chance...
I had the same problem on BAMF Remix. After flashing the patch to remove the call recorder, it has been working perfectly.
flash a differnet kernel. some have an audio "enhancment"
where can I find this? I would like to try it. =)

Whenever I have this problem, I turn it up all of the way and then turn it back down. Works every time.
volume
I flashed the new kernal 4.4.6 with no recorder this morning and it fixed my problem!! I am so happy!!
I also flashed the non recorder version and that cured my way too loud volume. Now I don't have to hold it 3 feet from my ear so I don't go deaf.
Can someone post a link to the patch for removing call recorder please? I find the in call volume way too loud. I've searched through a few hundred pages of different BAMF posts and haven't been able to find the patch.

it's in the first few posts for adrynalyne's froyo kernels (one of his posts).
So do I just install one of his kernels that doesn't have support for call recorder? I still can't find a separate patch to actually remove call recorder. I just want to lower the call volume.
I didn't need to flash anything under the current version of das BAMF. The call volume was way too loud, so I went to das BAMF toolkit, application settings, and removed call recorder.
Problem solved.

[Q] Volume boosting

Is there a way to boost the volume of the infuse without rooting it or anything?
Go into a really quiet room? The volume might not actually be louder, but it will seem that way since nothing around you is distracting you or dampening the sound.
But on a more realistic note, I don't believe so. Your best bet, really, is to root your phone and take advantage of a kernel that offers Voodoo Sound support. I've noticed a difference in the in-call volume with it and I know it allows for a lot of modifications of other things as well. Once installed, just pick up the Voodoo Control app and tinker away.
I guess the reason I dont want to root it is cause I dont want to mess anything up for one since we paid out right for the phone and two I want to be able to still get OTA updates when they roll out and Ive heard you cant if its rooted and/or modified
I've been researching how to do this as well, to Noah Vail. I'm running infused 1.5.3 and have voodoo sound control but i was under the impression that it was only for the headphone jack. How do you adjust the phone speaker volume with that app?

I understand where you are coming from.
One thing to note about rooting and modifying your phone is that, at least from my experience, it does nothing but make the phone better. I can understand not wanting to be a tester of a custom ROM, but the ones available now are quite stable and easy to install. I think if you give it a shot, you'll have a new found love for your phone. I understand, too, your hesitation since you bought the phone outright. However, these phones are surprisingly hard to brick unless you're doing something unusual with it.
My suggestion would be to give a custom rom a shot. The worst thing that I can foresee happening is that you can just use Odin to revert back to stock and go from there. No harm. No foul. Give it a shot. I think you will be happy that you did.

I believe if you modify the volume limit that it will affect the sound in general. Obviously, they have the headphone amplifier, but the other option should play a role in other sound as well.
re: Boost Volume
There is no way to really boost volume without root.
The FCC put limits on the volume for cell phones and to over come these limits you must have root.
There is a really good app out there in the market called
Galaxy Tuner, I think its the only app which makes a big noticable
difference in volume boost. Not only for headset, but for the speaker volume too.
It has a lot of other features and options besides just the audio.
I was more talking the external speaker. The headset and earpiece are fine to me. But the external speaker is only about half as loud as the Atrix. Id like to be able to get more out of it for driving purposes as well as listening to music.
There's already a thread on this. And it's been answered. Download "Galaxy Tuner" from the market.

Will rooting my phone kill official OTA updates? Too bad Im not so technically inclined to remove the Atrix's speaker and put it in the Infuse lol. That sucker is loud. But The screen on this is just killer.
I haven't had any problems after rooting my phone. Maybe if you added a custom rom then problems may come up. But I suggest rooting it. You can always revert back to stock anytime.
Edit: galaxy tuner really boosts up the external speakers.

I don't know what rom you are using, but if you flash the Infuse 1.53 custom rom the Galaxy Tuner works fine. If you upgrade the rom to the Infuse 2.0 GB beta rom the galaxy tuner will NOT work.
(not sure if galaxy tuner works with stock rom)
Good luck.
Rebooted the phone and it just worked lol. The phone is stock other than being rooted. I couldnt turn it up much though it just caused too much distortion
I download
i download voodoo, but it says i need a kernel version. How i find that kernel.
I have my atrix rooted. Any idea.

[Q] MIC volume is low

Recently I installed mumble for chat, however whenever I speak my mic volume is very low. (as told by my friends on the other end) Is there anyway to boost the mic with setting configuration, android app, or am I eternally screwed? All the help is appcreciated, THANKS!
This belongs in Q & A and has been asked and answered many times.
micropnone issues
i am also having problems but only after installing revolver rom. i use skype and my wife cant here me unless i am talk derectly into the mic. i tried headphones but the tabblet still uses the built in mic. i am to boost the volume or something any help would be great.
also i have been looking around for a salution for about an hour now on the 199 threads for the transformer so next time you tell some one its been answered please leave a link as you just sound like your being rude.
I haven't noticed anything useful on it beyond maybe upping the bass on it; but I'm newer to this forum section.
IDK what use it is for you, but my fiancee and I are often on TeamSpeak 3, so I will switch to the tablet at times. I've found two things to help: don't move and speak close to the mic, instead of sitting away from it.

Nexus 4, Mic not working in Speaker mode. but works in voice record, and regular call

Hi there everyone. i need some help with a used nexus 4 that i recently purchased.
The mic does not work when i use the speaker phone in phone calls only.
i can make voice recordings in whatsaap, and other functions using the speaker mic works.
But when i try to use the speaker phone in a phone call, the other person cannot hear me at all, its as if i pressed 'mute' on the mic.
i searched the net everywhere i could think of, but only found people with the opposite problem, where the mic only worksin speaker mode for them, but not for regular calls, which is the opposite of my issue..
also another strange thing, when i plug in an external headset/mic, the whole phone becomes like one big mic, and any way i touch the phone, sounds like crumpling paper extremely loudly.....
does anyone know of a solid fix for this issue?
thnks!!!!

well i never own nexus... what i can suggest just install minimal adb from xda... And then download last known official factory images from google or http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4 here... You can ask anybod here in general section.... People are willing to help just try to talk...
i was more like looking and hoping for someone who actually owned a nexus 4 and know about this specific issue and how to solve it......
it might save me hours of trying different things that may or may not work.
thnks though if i dont get any other replies ill just start by trying your advice.
