So, I get the Vibrant, root it in minutes, but now I'm bored. I have the basic stuff; WiFi tether, overclock, root explorer, etc.
Is there something more? What would you do to make it more fun?

Lol, use it. Check your email play some games. If modding is the fun part for you start working on getting skype on our phones. There are about 3 more levels of modding above you.
Try costumize your home screen by installing widgets
just sell your Android and go buy a new one
Get some apps you like. When I'm really bored I play Hamster Climb or read some books (kindle app or others).
I mean, basically the phone is a computer, so if you're probably going to feel about it like you do a compy.
If you like hacking on code, you could come up with your dream app and write it in java (which has to be easier than objective-c).
I guess it depends what you find interesting. The thrill of a new toy always wears off.

I would recommend the whole assortment of gaming console emulators. I have seen them running gorgeously and... well, let's face it, the phone was made for them.
If you have root, Root Explorer and Titanium Backup are quite the asset, and if CWM comes to the phone, ROM Manager will be an important tool as well. 3G Watchdog if you have a cap on your data connection. My other recommendations are more sectorial: Cool Reader for ebooks, Dropbox, Firefox and GPS Aids.

thanks for the great feedbacks. this is my first android phone and i'm really excited in tinkering with it. i would agree on the emulators currently have almost all of them but lack sd space. i'm having problems running the tiger mame emu though
Ive downloaded the pro version, along with the plugins. No matter which plugin i use, I never notice any different games in the market. NOVA, Modern Combat etc. Are still not showing up. Yes i pressed the 'fix market' button still to no avail. Has anyone gotten this to actually work with their device?

I had chainfire3d on my captivate and loved it.
I am having all kinds of trouble getting it to install on my skyrocket tho.
I have tried downloading from the market and from the www page. directly to the phone and transferred from usb.
NO matter what I cant get the pluggins to install. I am root. so doesnt make any sense.
I remember needing to punch some code into terminal emulator with the cappy and i have searched and typed a few different commands into VrE again to NO avail. Getting kinda bummed about it now as its been 24 hours since root..I also installed the 2.3.6 rom on our forums last night.
SR was delivered wednsday with 2.3.5 stock from the Amazon . penny sale.
Anyone kn ow what I am doing wrong?

You google the game and find out which device it was made for. Also many of the gameloft games aren't on the market. Search for shadowgun.
Why are guys even using chain fire? I switched to the skyrocket from a Dell streak 5 with the original snapdragon processor and all my old gameloft games work and most others as well, even shadow gun runs flawlessly from the market with no mods at all. I'm completely stock, not even rooted on 2.3.6

I doubt anyone's done that, at least so far.
The general idea is to group together apps that have a common theme, etc.
I'm just poking harmless fun, but do you have more than 16 apps of the same type or function?

I do. I was annoyed at this limitation earlier today when I tried to group games for my 3yr old together.
this was the very reason why I downloaded the source. One would think enabling this would be easy. Someone tell me how to compile only the launcher. Compiling the entire source takes me over 5 hours.

Solution:
Use the first 2 dock spaces for 16 games a piece, then use the other two spaces for your own stuff.

You guys sure you're in the right forum? The "suck it up and deal with it" attitude belongs in the iOS forums, this is Android. In Android we don't ask "why?" but "why not?"
BTW: An actual temporary fix to the problem is to use Folder Organizer.
You could also use simi folder temporarily. Free in the market. I am sure there are other alternatives, too.

Its for his kid. And diferrent people have different needs. You should take that hammer and smash your own head.
OP: it should be implemented in cm9 or something probably through a scrolling folder.

This desperately needs to be included in ROMs and stock ICS... For now you have to stick to Market apps. I'm using App Organizer
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
CyberGR Hybrid ICS (5)
Matrix Kernel (15.5)
OC 1000 / 200 (smartassv2)

To build the Launcher from source, use: make Launcher2 to build the generic Launcher. To build it for a specific device (i.e. to incorporate device-specific settings and overlays), you should run lunch and select your device before running make. The path to locate the APK will be specified on the last line.
I've never tried to build the Launcher without precompiling the rest of the source prior to, so I don't know if it needs to build some additional components beforehand, which would add some more time for the initial build, but far less than doing the whole system. Make sure to sign your APK to match the rest of your system before pushing.
Hope that helps.
Edit:
The maximum number of folder items is defined by: res/values/config.xml (for those building from source) or res/values/integers.xml (if decompiling) in Launcher2.apk. The integer values for folder_max_count_x, folder_max_count_y, and folder_max_num_items define the maximum number of items permitted in the folder, where the value defined in x multiplied by y equals the value in max_num_items.
I modified the y and max_num_items values and I was able to include more than the default 16 icons, but...
The folder does not include scrolling capability, so once the number of items exceeds the available screen space, they are cut off. If it's possible to incorporate scrolling into folders, we're good to go, but that's beyond my capacity...
I simply have a couple questions I'd like to get advice on. Rom Toolbox and Titanium Backup.
I already got Titanium but I'm inquiring whether an app like Rom Toolbox is useful.
I am rooted but running the stock Rom. I'd like to keep it simple and get used to learning about being rooted before getting into flashing.
Any other root apps from the Play store I should load? I'd prefer to avoid useless apps. Searching the Internet doesn't always yield the results I'm looking for. Everyone has been so helpful here I'm looking for good friendly advice.
Thanks,
Jon

Rom toolbox is not useful for us for the most part... Good root apps are : set CPU or any of.the CPU apps. titanium . CPU spy.. Erm I can't think of the others that I use....there are some fun ones like WiFi kill but.keep away from Rom toolbox
Be careful. Most root apps are harmless but there are a few that can brick your phone. Stay away from stuff like Rom Manager and Rom Toolbox. Apps that let you take shortcuts with flashing are likely to put you in a boot loop if they don't brick you. I'm not aware of any that work with this phone beyond Goo Manager.

Droidwall is great, it let's you set which apps can use which network interfaces to get the internet (if at all). You can stop streaming video apps from using all of your data plan by setting them to only use wifi.

You mean like Cydia for iOS right? I can't tell if you mean a type of Cydia Store, or a just an app store. I also had an idea for this a couple weeks back.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
I don't know what that is but like what I had in mind was a app that has categories etc for apps, and it would be like for root stuff, like root apps or apps from people on here and other forums, to kinda localize everything into a easy to navigate spot so you don't have to search a huge forum for a download to someone's app or have to search play store to find the right root apps, because to me finding root apps on play store can be a pain.
But lime I said its really just a idea and it would be a little difficult to get going and make actually happen.
Also a app where its like daily/weekly updates about peoples stuff, but drippler kinda does that.

I might make this app this weekend. The UI would probably be terrible though. If I made this, it would have a ROMs section, tweaks section (mods to system and stuff), an apps section (root apps only), and an App Developers section (apps that started on XDA or another Android Forum, or just apps that I think are cool but are not on the play store. Once I know that the app works and can successfully download and install apps, I will work on the UI to look like the Play Store, except with the Holo Blue accent instead of the green one. It would be my first app, too. I'm also learning Android Development by Team Treehouse, and they show how you can make an app access the internet and pull things from it (which is saving the apk, and then installing).

u would need permission from xda and it's better that they make it.
xda devs don't only make root apps also having roms would be expensive and unnecessary because they'll have to handle a boatload of downloads and space to store all the roms when file-sharing sites work just fine what would be better is u subscribe to a Rom and get updates and links etc from there...
Anyways
