Can I root a Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Capacitive with you AT&T firmware/ROMS/Updates - Captivate General

Can I root a Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Capacitive with you AT&T firmware/ROMS/Updates
I will soon have a Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Capacitive. I am technically minded and hace carried out re-flashing old sony-ericsson phones with no trouble.
My Question is can I use the guide downloads here to root my Canadian Rogers Network Samsung Galaxy S Capacitive or will it end up with all AT&T connection settiongs and be messed up? These are the exact same phones but do I need to wait for a new thread witch has a ROMs and is focused on the Rogers version of the Samsung Galaxy S Capacative?
I don't know enough about rooting a android phone and I don't want a phone that won't work because it has all the internal carrier network settings set to AT&T not Rogers.
Thanks for you help

I don't think anyone will know for sure until the phone comes out and some devs can play with it.

the rooting/sideloading/etc. procedures don't do anything to the APN settings. I think flashing ROMs with odin may do something about that, so I would stay away from doing those. The rooting procedure was the same for the Vibrant/Captivate/i9000 so there definitely shouldn't be an issue there.

First you should dump your rom, we need your captivates modem.bin, also the root update.zip from our captivate should work just fine on yours, just download it, put it on the root of your internal sdcard, turn your device off, press and hold volume down/up+power for like 3 seconds or so, boot into recovery and then select 'reinstall packages"

opps dint read you still don't have it, oh well when ever your get it, please dump the modem.bin from it.

[Q] Question about Root/Rom SR

So I am looking to get a smartphone. Never really had one, and I am looking to get an android phone. In the end, I think from what I have researched, to get a SR, on the TMobile prepaid network (I am not a fan of contracts and paying too much for what I need. I would mainly need data, and the TMo prepaid seems to work out the best). So I want to make sure I got all the steps covered.
So from what I gathered, in order to get a SR on TMo, I will have to root it, unlock it, then install a TMo radio to get TMo's 3/4g network.
So the steps I need to take are:
Make a backup of the stock phone (or find the Stock Rom) just in case anything goes wrong? I think this is called Nandroid backup? I am not sure how to make a backup myself though? I believe I can just Clockwork Recovery?
Root the phone (is the root permament? Or do I need to do it everytime I restore the backup/stock ROM?)
Install Custom ROM (I am probably going to either install CyanogenMod or Sky ICS).
I found instructions on CM here: http://wiki[.]cyanogenmod[.]com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II_(AT%26T):_Full_Update_Guide
For Sky ICS, I was going to use: http://www[.]traemcneely[.]com/2011/12/27/install-custom-rom-at-ciq-removed-short-review-instructions/
Unlock phone. Is this temporary? Do I need to get a new unlock code everytime I change ROMs, etc?
Install Modem ... I do not quite understand how to do this. I found a list of radios that is supposed to work in the i727: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426001 I think I get the SR Series Rogers KJ7 modem. But I am not sure how to flash the radio only?
Am I missing any steps? I want to be sure I got everything I need to do this. I haven't bought the phone yet, but I am researching everything before I get the phone.
Alot of the information I got from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383464 I was going to Root it by zergRush.
Also, I was wondering if I should wait for the new SoC chip from Samsung to be released? I read that the Exynos 4212 will be released in new phones soon (rumored to be in the SGS2+ in next week's Mobile World Congress) and that the new Exynos chip will support LTE? Where as now, the SGS2 SR LTE is the qualcomm chip.
And the reason I was thinking LTE was that if I didn't like TMo and its 3g/4g network, I could then try out AT&T and their LTE network. I am in LV where they have the LTE and TMo's 4g network.
But anyways, if I am missing a step or doing it in the wrong order, any help would be appreciated!
Wow, I'm impressed. I wish all noobs did this much research before flashing a phone, instead if doing it wrong, bricking it, and the. asking why lol. Your plan will work, u can flash the tmobile radio in cwm, same as u did the rom, skyics is fine, and u only have to unlock phone once. Little tip though, once u flash and root and all that jazz, in wireless settings set mobile networks to gsm/hsdpa only, no lte. This will help battery
You will need CWM before you can make nandroid backup and flashing roms.
Follow this --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526
Guide will help with rooting or flashing custom rom right away (which should be rooted already).
Radio is also flashed through cwm just like custom rom.

Needed Cspire users, especially SG2 SCH-R760

I am of need of some information. 3 days of bits and pieces here is where I'm at.
I rooted this phone with droids kernel and installed a few different roms only to find that I had a non locking GPS. So after several threads I found I needed to return to stock and get a lock. Here is where the problem started. I have never found a Cspire stock file for the SCH-R760 the best match I could find was a USC easy upgrade tool on samsung. Flashed the util and got a stock lock. After several buil.prop edits apn edits never could get data to work. SO I found a generic carriers stock FF24 total tar package posted by Mcadder on the USC site flashed it with odin and checked the efs clear to wipe out all the USC stuff. When I came out of the flash all device information was gone and prl was gone. So then I went into ##3282## changed all the information that I had to get voice text and prl back. So I'm now rooted with no data.
I need someone who is on Cspire to go into ##3282## and give me some information so hopefully I can get data back.
Also if anyone has a default build.prop for this phone Please post. I have asked in other post but not finding to many people with a Cspire SG2 that can help.
I can help

What specifics do you need from there. I see lots of information?
If you have this fixed already. Are you staying with the original load for this phone or did you find a ROM that works? I am wanting to flash my CSpire S2 and hope to find a jellybean load to work. I remember having trouble with the data on my S1 after flashing and went back to the original load.
Needed to close this. I got it all fixed and yes ,Using CodeName Android that was ported to USC then reported back to cspire.
need help

Did flashing a us cellular custom ROM to your cspire Samsung galaxy s2 do this or did you lose your data by updating the firmware through us cellular? What I am asking is if it is safe to flash a custom ROM made for a us cellular galaxy s2 to my cspire galaxy s2??

It was caused by running the easy upgrade tool from Samsung, designed for US cellular . I personally run stuff for the Epic4g posted here. Some say it is not wise to do so because they aren't exactly the same, but I have had little issue running CM10,PA,AOKP,AOSP.

Does flashing a rom change the carrier of a SIM??? Read Below and please answer me!!!

Hi, I am going to explain something, but I know it would not make sense to you guys.
My friend who has a Samsung Galaxy S2 SM-T989D, got that phone from a friend, and I pluged the phone to my computer. The phone was with a cellphone carrier called Telus (In Canada), and the phone got bricked because I was trying to load a JellyBean rom on it because my mom used to have that same S2 (got it from the store, not from my friend shane friend) and my moms old S2 (same model number and everything) had Jelly Bean on it. 4.4. something. Anyways. Shanes phone got bricked and I found another software to flash on his phone and I used ODIN, and not his phone looks like its with T-Mobile (a US carrier). My question is, that, Since his phone was carrier locked with Telus before I flashed a rom and bricked it, does that mean since his phone looks like its from T-Mobile locked with T-Mobile? Does flashing a rom change the carrier of the SIM???

i have never seen a rom change the sim itself.
if you manage to flash another carriers rom, as it seems you have, and it doesnt brick your device (fairly common), the phone is going to report the new carrier because its coded into the rom.

Stumbled Upon TMO and Metro Unlocks Free

This is my first post... All I know about phones I've learned from this great website. I hope this is a chance to give back.
I've been playing with flashing either of these carrier firmwares on a few different Samsung phones. One being a production model the Galaxy On5. I do not know if this is an exploit or not... but this is what I did and the results of both.
SM-G550T - Galaxy On5 T-Mobile
T-Mobile Sim
I flashed SuperStarz Rom (Don't know how to link it)
His rom however is a Metro based rom..
I hit the device unlock app just for fun and to my shock it actually unlocked it. I've confirmed this with an AT&T sim card thus far. This model and account does not meet the criteria at all for the device unlock app stock to this phone.
Well I was curious..
SM-530T1 Galaxy Grand Prime
T-Mobile Sim
Tried stock unlock app... No success...
Flashed stock tmo firmware and tried again... it worked. Confirmed with a Wal-Mart family plan sim... and AT&T.
Please if anyone has the capability to try this and confirm it, let us know what happened.
Thank you!!
*I realize now this may be the wrong place to post this*
*UPDATE 4/3/17 - I performed a complete wipe and unroot on the On5... tried the unlock app for kicks... and it failed.
Because it was already unlocked!!!!*
Just did the same with the Grand Prime with the same result... seems as tho it might be legit. If someone else can confirm this I'll write a quick tut up for everyone. I also learned from my buddy that tried this after I explained what I was doing... he took the S4 Att and flashed tmo on it... and unlocked it. Flashed OG firm and remained unlocked. Or so he says... I will confirm later.
what unlocked it? the metropcs device unlock app?
Yes. And the Tmobile Unlock App on the other device.
Just tested with Galaxy Grand Express with success. Please... Anyone else confirm this??
Failing never felt so good!!! (On5)
So....
It seems to work well with later production models... Samsung Tmo Metro Att... and minutes ago with my Tmo sim, an older LG Boost phone.
Pls Anyone with any type of multi firmware capable phone, able to flash tmo or metro firms with the unlock app.. try this and let me know the results. I will be posting a full tut with screens in the AM.
I'm pretty sure I'm dying from H1N1 or Sars.... when I'm well enough to think I'll post tut.
metro galaxy grand prime unlock?
I have a MetroPCS Galaxy Grand Prime I'm trying to figure out how to unlock. I rooted it, flashed it with a paired down stock BUT I think that paired down stock got rid of the 'device unlock' app that was on my old Samsung Galaxy Core Prime because when I used that app on THAT phone it worked perfectly but I don't know how to unlock this phone or even if it IS locked (have no clue how to find out if it is). I ordered a global FreedomPop sim card to stick into this phone and give to my little girl (I want it for the tracking capabilities only for the most part, the rest I'm locking up).
This is the closest thread I can find about this subject. Any help would be deeply appreciated. I'm not a super genius for phones or programming but I can figure out how to get into the build and tinker if given the right instructions. I don't even know the mechanics of how phones are locked, though, so maybe that won't work. Again, not a super genius. Thanks, y'all.
Hi, i tried this today with a Galaxy on5 Tmobile (G550T) and didn't work. Had latest firmware installed, then installed twrp, backed up stock rom and installed Superstarz rom. MetroPCS device unlock app keeps saying 'Unlock Failed'.
Just reporting so others don't try in vain.
Yep, it's an oldie and moldie!?

Unlocked AT&T Galaxy S7 Active to Verizon

So, these past couple of days I've been trying to find a way to get my unlocked ATT Galaxy S7 Active to work with Verizon.
Well, I have read and read and can't seem to get it done. I just realized that it was an "active" which means its not a normal galaxy S7, I guess. I have read that flashing with the U firmware would be best, but every time I've found one that I thought would work it never has. I've tried both on a mac using the ported version of odin for mac which I couldn't get to work at all. I have also tried going with the Oreo OS as well as the one before it, but the U versions firmware, and trying to install them with the Odin 3.13 software using Vmware and it just constantly fails. is it even possible to flash the firmware on this model?
I have he ATT Galaxy S7 Active Model number: SM-G891A

This is why i never buy branded phones!
The rubbish ATT&T active is on a GSM baseband and Verizon use CDMA so your phone won't work on Verizon until you unlock the CDMA radio software on the phone.
Finally got my g891a on verizon with stock rom and root
I would be really interested to see how you did it. I'm in that situation now. I have the G891A and my carrier is switching from running on ATT network to Verizon. I like this phone (I know it is getting some age on it) and it still does all I need/want and I really don't want to give it up.
