I tried to install kr.touchsoft.samsung.roadSms.apk on my phone(epic 4g) with my terminal emulator using "pm install kr.touchsoft.samsung.roadSms.apk". The install failed half way through and I got a installed killed message.
I am wondering since the installed failed, are there going to be unused files on my system? If so how will I go about cleaning those up?

Okay so I updated my Nexus S to 2.3.2 through ROM Manager, and when I tried to flash the Trinity kernel after I updated I ROM Manager said it was gonna shut down my phone to flash it, but it just sat there. Then I tried different functions in ROM manager, but I got "Error running privileged commands" (or something like that) I then checked Superuser and ROM Manager was simply not in the list. It did not say that it was declining access, but it also didn't say it was allowing. I decided that I would restore to my backup, but when I went into the recovery it was not the ClockworkMod recovery. It was the stock recovery, but I didn't have any options. At that point I decided to uninstall ROM Manager and install it again hoping it would ask for privileges. It did not.
Any ideas?
open ROM manager and flash clockwork recovery (the first thing on the menu)
When I try to do that I get "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"

Sounds like you're not rooted.
If you're not rooted, the only way you're going to get into clockwork is to use fastboot.
I'm pretty sure that I'm rooted. I was running on Trinity prior to the update. And I still have Superuser.
Superuser apk doesn't necessarily mean you're still rooted with proper permissions.
At least check your /system/bin directory for the su binary (different than the superuser app) and that it has executable permissions.
You could also open a terminal app on the phone and just type su and hit return.
Okay so I downloaded a terminal emulator and typed 'su'
I got permission denied. Does this mean I have to root my phone again? If I will will I have to delete all data?

Yes, it means you must root again.
No, you won't lose everything again if you follow these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931865
Good luck.
edit: you just need to get into clockwork (via fastboot) and then re-run the su update zip file, it will reinstall the su binary and fix any bad permissions.
Sorry for asking for the specifics, but could you explain how one could go about doing that?
Boot into fastboot.
fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-crespo.img
Boot to recovery.
Mount system.
Flash a zip from the SD card and select the superuser .zip.

The link I provided gives step-by-step instructions on how to do it, and links to more complicated steps if you're not too sure about them.
The post just above this does give the basic steps, though.
I've installed tweaked 2.2 and it appears that I keep losing root. I re-flashed su and done the ADBRootfix listed in the tweaked thread.
Every time i open up terminal, i don't have root access and can only get a root shell. Running the ADBRootfix also gives me a root shell.
Searching has yielded me nothing and i've been stuck in adb trying to solve this.
Any ideas before I re-flash the whole rom?
Maybe clear the app data for Superuser, then go back into into terminal and su and see if you are prompted for superuser access. When you say root shell, are you referring to the $ prompt or the # prompt? Also, I assume other root apps no longer have root privileges, right? In the superuser app, what version of the su binary does it say you have installed?
I'm on su 3.1.3. by root shell i mean temporary roots that are gone every time i reboot. I go into terminal, su to get a # command line.
I can get apps to have root access such as tethering or screen shot apps, but it looks like I can't get the system rooted. I can't do things like uninstall apps that came with Tweaked.
I cleared out su data with no luck. I checked for updates in the SU app. It seemed like it kept thinking I had a legacy version. i reflashed the binary in cwm (per some SU discussions i read) and now i can't get SU to work. It's stuck trying to download the new binary via the SU app.
I think it's just time for a reflash from EP4. I feel like I'm missing something...I know my way around computers and I've been romming my phone for over a year...but regarding this problem, nothing seems to be making sense.
I think I just won't update SU from the play store on this round and see what happens.

Had the same issue. Go into CWM and run Fix Permissions. This worked for me.
I ran fix permisions with no luck. More specifically, no luck with the losing root issue, I'll try it with the su binary update issue.
re flashed to EP4D, did the OTA. then flashed to tweaked. no root or su problems.
Trying to sideload some APKs but they won't install. At the end all I get is app not installed. F-droid or adaway whatever
Running cyanogenmod 12 on nexus 5 (rooted) so I have no clue what it could be
Tried using terminal to install and got some "neither user nor current process has android.permission.install.package error
Also tried moving the apk to /system/app but it wouldn't let me saying I don't have permission. ( thought root was supposed to give me permissions )
Also tried signing the apk with zipsigner
Any ideas guys ? Someone must've had a problem like this before
To push something to /system, you'll need to remount it RW (that stands for Read/Write).
Hi All,
I have a Nexus 7 2013 and I wish to update it. However when the OTA update is run a error message appears. I rooted the tablet several months ago and have since then un-rooted it. When I run a root checker Superuser Binary Files are still installed alongside BusyBox. Could this be the reason as to why the OTA is failing if so, how do I completely remove the files?
Thanks
which SU , manager you used?
maybe you uninstalled the wrong way.
if bussybox is installed, open the remove binary and uninstall.
if not working, install the SU manager you used, go to setting of it and " remove root/binaries"
Hi, there is some command by Shell O Power Shell in which I can deny the installation and uninstallation of apps in Android, I explain, that when installing a .apk the system does not allow it (I am a root user) even if the cell phone is it restored factory?
