[Q] Hotmail ActiveSync problems with HTC WinMo 6.x devices - General Topics

I'm looking for anyone having error 0x8000FFFF with Hotmail ActiveSync. I've already found a number of users with the same issue and I'm trying to collect as much info as I can to give full details to Microsoft Hotmail Team.
If you're having the same issue, post here a note with the following details:
1. Windows Mobile phone brand, model, full OS version & build number and system language.
2. Which items can you synchronize (if any): Mail, Calendar, Contacts and Tasks.
3. During account setup, in "Enter Email Address" screen, do you see any pre-selected checkbox to "Attempt to detect Exchange Server Settings automatically"? (see http://bit.ly/bJ57SX - picture #3 for details).
4. Do you get any SSL certificate to accept?
5. Which is your LiveID?
Hoping that might help us with Microsft, I thank you very much.

Auto-delete emails?

Hello Everyone,
I have a T-Mobile USA SDA and had a problem with emails on the device.
Not sure if it is working as designed or if there was a blug, so I thought I would float it by you guys.
Setup:
Mail client on T-Mobile USA SDA
Configured manually to check pop and send smtp with my gmail account. It is set such that the message headers are downloaded first.
I connect WIFI and send/recieve
I receive a header I had sent myself for testing
I click on it and select to download the message body.
I go back to the inbox.
I do send and receive.
I receive the message body.
I read it.
I go back to the inbox.
I do send and recieve.
Result:
The message is removed without a trace. it is not put into deleted items folder, nor does it remain in the inbox folder.
Is this expected behavior? I am not allowed to store mail on my device? Is there a registry setting to change this behavior? There is no options within the application. Is there a registry setting to change wheremails are stored in general? thanks for seeing the barrage of questions!
Yes I got the same result with you. Mine is a Dopod 577w (Tornado in Taiwan). This behaviour also happens to other mail servers.
ni hao,
I had searched a bit about it and found some places explain it. The explanation sounds weak, but it looks like something we will have to live with until either gmail or ms changes their server or client software.

The problem is with the default behaviour of Gmail - it will "hide" all the
already-downloaded mail. Unfortunately, it seems not even now that the beta
phase is long over can you effectively override this behaviour - the POP3
radio buttons just don't stick in the Settings window.
Therefore, the best solution IMHO is switching to an alternative e-mail
client that doesn't remove the messages that are not available online any
more from the local view. The alternative mailer clients FlexMail and Qmail
are like so - see the row "Does it only display mail that is still on the
server? " in the comparison chart of my mailer client roundup at
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=569&more=1 . Of the two,
FlexMail offers scheduling capabilities.
PocketPC MAG:
Does it only display mail that is still on the server? : one of the most-criticized problems with Messaging is that it does not show older messages (messages that have been deleted in the meantime) in the Inbox unless you explicitly (mass-)move them to a separate folder. As can be seen, it's, in addition to Messaging, only nPOPw that deletes the messages from the local view that don't exist on the server any more. The other mailer applications don't.
I might just write a pop/smtp client software myself. Much easier to tweak it to do what I need it to do, and in my previous job I worked for an email client so I know those protocols well. I probably won't add advanced functionality or IMAP/Exchange, because I have no individual use for those.
Very Useful info.
My current solution to this issue is Outlook & ActiveSync. Just download your mail to PC and sync. Mail in mobile Outlook account will not disappear unless you delete them.
By the way, I think Gmail mobile website is also okay for mail browsing & composing.
(it is not a good experience posting reply here using Pocket IE)
I'd like to write a mail client using .NET CF just for fun if I have time. I'm not a C++ guy.

Problems to syncronize contact with active sync

I can't be able to syncronize the outlook contact through active sync. Nobody can help me ? Thanks
I think you need to give a lot more information for anyone to even begin to suggest anything.
Have you searched these forums for "activesync" to find similar errors.
If so, then give the following information
1. What version of Activesync
2. What version of Outlook
3. Do you get an error message. If so what
4. Can you browse the device through Activesync
5. Did it used to work with this PC or has it never worked.
6. Do you/can you sync with another PC
The versione of active sync is 4.2 ;
Microsoft outlook (Not outlook express)
I don't receive an error message ;
Yes i can browse the device and i can sybcronize the calendar ;
It work with another pc but don't syncronize only the contact with my office pc.
Thanks
I think this is the same problem that i'm looking the solution for. You want to synchronize contacts with two PCs? one in your home and 2nd in your office? I would also want to do that. Can someone give more information on this one? If someone can help please send PM to me, I'm TyTN user so I don't often check this area of forum.
Thanks in advance for any help

Emails from exchange (free vista for help!)

Hi
Can sombody let me know how i can get email direct from my exchange server please?
i have an exchange 2003 server at work with OWA and want to recieve emails on the go from it?
Whats the best ways to do this?
If sombody helps me quick i have a Legit unactivated Vista premium they can have the key for as im really deperate for help
Not 100% sure of the ins and outs, but exchange 2003 has to have SP2.
Also, check this http://thelazyadmin.com/index.php?/archives/409-Configuring-Direct-Push.html
Might help!
Good luck!
Hi,
forget the native MS Push, try OLX Mobile Access from www.gangl.de. Been using this since 2005 and had no probs at all. Absolutely recommended !
This really depends how you want to sync your e-mail. If you want Push, you will need to have exhange server 2003 with SP2 install and have WM5 with Push technology. If you just want to download e-mail everytime you connect your device to the internet, you can do it with any version of exchange 2003 and almost any version of windows mobile.
Also, to get e-mail directly fro your exchange server will depends on your server settings. But you will at least require the following informaton:
1) Server address
2) Username (this does not necessary be the same as your e-mail address, it is the actual username that let you log onto exchange server. Usually it will be the same username as your Outlook Web Access for Exchange 2003)
3) Password (for the above username)
4) Domain (this domain is necessary or else your pocket pc will not be able to access the proper location where your e-mail is located)
Once you have all of the above information, you can either set it up on Active Sync on your PC or on your PPC. To do it on PPC, open Active Sync, Menu, Configure Server... enter all of the above information (remember to click SSL encryted if your server is encryted {most likely it will be}). Then go back to Active Sync, Menu, Options... change all of the data that you want to get from exchange server (ie: Contacts, Calendar, etc). Now you are all set. You just need to connect your device to the internet, open Active Sync, click on the Sync button, it will automatically fetch the information from your server. For Push to work, simply leave your internet connect open, go to your Comm Manager, make sure the Push symbol is Green (or On). Your e-mail will automatically be downloaded to your PPC once it arrive to the server. I will not leave Push on if you are using GPRS or HSDPA as e-mail send to your mobile device will not have been SPAM filtered (unless your server admin has the SPAM filter turn on but it is unlikely as this will restriction user control, normally SPAM is filter by client software like Office on PC), so your internet connect charges can ge quite big!
Anyway, hope this will help. Ciao.
Pete
One more note, if you are using Vista, it is about 100 times easier... you just need to have your Microsoft Office Outlook setup to connect to your Exchange server and it will automatically know what settings needed to put onto your pocket PC :O)
And setting it up on Outlook could be quite easy as well if your Exchange Server has auto-configure utilities to download (ie: allow you to download the .prf files for your account profile and you can just import that to Outlook and everything will be automatically setup.). Hope this help and not too too complicated for you.
Pete
Hi folks,
you don't need exchange. Although i have one, i mentioned OLX Mobile Access which also supports MS Outlook without Exchange, it's called OLX Mobile Access Personal. You can download a 30 days trial.
And you should, for this one is really cool. It even supports Outlook Notes !
Setup and configuration is in english, so don't mind the german website.

Click to collapse
You set up MS-Exchange through ActiveSync. Launch ActiveSync on the device. Click on the menu and you can set the Server Source, schedule (how often it should check for mails), etc. Once you do this, you will see that "Outlook mail" in your Messaging shows your MS-Exchange email.

Exchange assistance needed.

I need some help Exchange 2003 corporate email. I am having an issue getting it to sync to exchange.
What i want the end result to be is for the Droid to be in sync with Exchange for Mailbox, Contacts and Calendars (tasks would be nice but aren’t necessary); securely...
I have played around with multiple settings and applications and have not been successful up to this point. I have also read that the Droid can be a bit flakey in working with Exchange without a 3rd part app...
I would prefer to use the built in corporate email client but i am not opposed to a trusted 3rd party app either...
I also wouldn’t mind an app that could pull directly from the OWA link (and still looks like outlook - i believe IPhone has something like this).
Here is a rundown of our setup.
Firewall>>>Barracuda Spam Filter>>>exchange server
Exchange is 2003 Ent. Ed. Sp2 on Win2k3SP2 Ent. Ed.
We also run a BES to support current BB devices (but the idea is to move some users over to this new breed of smartphone).
My question is what should the configuration on the Exchange server be (and Barracuda if needed); and how should the phone be setup.
Apps tested so far are the built in client, K-9 mail and Touchdown. I do get some added info from touchdown that might shed some added light on wha the needed config should be:
Checking Certificate...
Checking ActiveSync with SSL...
Server is Microsoft-IIS/6.0
ActiveSync was found
ActiveSync Version :Versions:Microsoft-IIS/6.0,1.0,2.0,2.1,2.5
Trying activesync protocol 25...
ActiveSync provisioning returns HTTP:200 ActiveSync provisioning success The following policies have been requested :
- Allow Simple password
Refreshing AS folders
Error refreshing folders
Trying activesync protocol 2.5...
ActiveSync provisioning returns HTTP:400 Error provisioning ActiveSync: Policy status is 0
If there is more info needed that i have not provided let me know and i will provide it.
TIA for any help/advice.
