[Q] Desktop Dock mutes the Epic?? - Epic 4G Accessories

I am unable to watch a video on the Desktop dock. When I put the Epic into the dock it hits the volume rocker and it then turns the volume to mute. On a couple of occasions I have been able to barely put it in and it will play at what ever volume but once I touch it and mutes it again.
Anyone having a better experience with it?
Thanks

ive got said dock. same issues. totally cuz the volume rocker is hitting the cradle in just the right manner. ive just gotten really good at putting it in at just the right angle to not hit it, but your right. if i touch pretty much anything, it starts to turn the volume down all the way. what i do when im not going to try to have a movie playing is always make sure the screen is off. the dock will turn on the screen about a few seconds after its plugged in. it shouldnt be this big of a pain in the ass and im thinking about taking the dock back. i think its a legitimate reason.

I didn't have any of these problems with mine and was wondering what everyone was talking about.
That is until I took my phone charm off. Apparently the tiny string the charm uses is enough to keep the phone from hitting the volume and causing problems.
That being said, you can control volume, too, through the function and arrow keys on the keyboard. It helps but it is still annoying if you don't have a charm and keep hitting the hardware volume keys.
(My charm is ninja stars, so not all charms are "girly".)

ya. i had an old psp wrist strap on and noticed it kept it from happening too, but the strap is kinda garish and i didnt want it on there all the time. im still on the fence about taking it back.

I put three layers of electrical tape along the right half of the groove, just before it dips down for the volume keys (alas, not down far enough.) It works great for me... since I was going to cover that bright blue light anyway.

[Q] Power button is a pain

Maybe I'm just a little dumb and uncoordinated and a good amount crotchety (ok, the use of the word "maybe" there is probably not needed), but I find it a bit of a pain in the ass to hit the power button to wake this phone up or put it to sleep. the button is on the top/back of the phone, and the way that it's angled and flush, I don't know, I just seem to have a hard time hitting it without really focusing on what I'm doing. I also usually end up hitting the volume buttons with the way I grab the phone to press the power button, and it's damn near impossible to do with the phone just lying flat on a surface.
I'm probably a little spoiled, coming from a Samsung Moment, which had Talk and End buttons on the front, and the End button served as the power button. It was so easy with a single thumb to wake the phone up, unlock the screen, do whatever, and put it back to sleep.
Unfortunately, the Shift is pretty limited when it comes to hard buttons. But I wondered, is it in any way possible to cause maybe a long press on the volume to wake/sleep the phone? I think that would solve most of my annoyances.

Regarding the power button, you'll get used to it.
Regarding the volume question, yes this is possible with Cyanogenmod 7. You need to be rooted to run Cyanogenmod 7.

If you want you can d/l 2 apps from market that might make things a little smoother for you.
One is quickboot, 4 options reboot, recovery, bootloader, and power off. Secondly one called screen off puts a button on your home screen tap it and your phone goes to sleep.

You just get this phone? I remember back when it was first released the forum was full of threads asking the same thing. Then we all just got used to it I used to hit my volume keys accidently all the time but I haven't done that in months now.

Yeah, two weeks ago.
Glad to hear that it's not just me. Thanks for the responses. I guess I figured two weeks would be enough to get used to it, but maybe I just need to give it more time.

The Keyboard definitely feels different from the Moment. I can't say for sure which I like better. I did like having the dedicated number row on the moment. Now, I struggle to find the parentheses or asterisk. I also liked the sliding mechanism on the Moment much better. It had that satisfying snap into position that it did. I always feel like the Shift is a little stubborn about sliding.
I came from a spring loaded samsung also, was a lil hesitant at first too. Tell you what tho, I have made an artform out of opening this phones keyboard. Feels real fluid, like a natural extension. Now I try opening a spring assist device like the wifes epic & I damn near drop it due to the extra force to get the mechanism moving combined w/ the slick cover. Then when it finally pops, it damn near jumps outta my hand... Ok, I have dropped it a few times, not tellin her that tho.
Main point: I agree, "once you get used to it", you really appreciate the thought that went into the simplistic design; buttons to the board.

Vibration and rattleing sound?

Didnt notice it before (only after i played around with the camera manual tapping to focus) but on home screen while tapping on the back and home buttons it causes an vibration. but just now notice that along with the vibration there is a slight "rattling sound" (maybe a lose part, maybe in camera?)
shaking the tablet doesnt affecting the rattling
so far only pressing home and back button causes the rattling.
Does anyone have similar issues?
Any Feedback?
UPDATE: its not the camera, when listening closer i narrow the rattling sound to the top right corner of the tablet. maybe its the vibration motor?
Uh... contents may have shifted during shipping?
You going to return it for a new one or try more extensive tests, like adding feedback to on-screen keyboard presses?

tried the keyboard method and yes its still there...
damn and BB doesnt have any in stock near by...gotta wait for shipping =[
Edit: Read your OP too fast and now realized you said only when it vibrates. Sorry! Guess RMA is the only way to go for something like that.
I've noticed that the volume rocker on the top right rattles when I shake my tablet. Hold the volume rocker lightly and shake it again and you probably won't here any rattling. I thought something was loose internally as well but it simply is the rocker. I don't feel this is a defect but simply a poor design on Asus's part. Hope this helps!

Power button problem?

Just bought Z5 dual in green.
Still brand new, 1 hour old.
A moment ago, power button got a bit sticky and would not pop back up.
Therefore could not turn screen on.
It has gone away since, only happened once.
But I am fairly sure that after this episode, power button started to make a tacky clicking sound every time I press the button.
QUESTION
does your z5 make this sound, and it's just that I failed to notice it from the beginning? Is this normal?
Was the power button getting stuck once a fluke, and won't happen again? Or could it be manufacturing defect?
Bit of a hassle to go back to the shop for exchange, and wanted to know if this sound is normal amongst other users or not.
Thanks for your replies in advance!
Any comment or opinion is greatly appreciated!
My power button clicks every time I use it which isn't often since I have tap to wake and the fingerprint sensor set up. Never got stuck though.

Just wanted to check, that my button clicks in sensation when pressed, as well as making the clicking sound at the same time.
Hard to describe, but I would say it sounds similar to a pc mouse clicking sound.
If I was blindfolded and someone wss clicking my power button, I could have thought that someone was using a pc mouse
Yours sounds like this too?
Yeah, it clicks at a slightly higher pitch to the volume key click.

Yes, mine sounds exactly like that.
Got the same issue, it's like the power button is sliding down, and you have to push it up to make it clickable again.
Thanks for your input guys.
I went back to sony centre where I got it from, and checked other Z5's
Since they all made similar clicking sounds, I decided to wait and see how it goes.
If I get the sticky power button again, I will return it.
Other than that, it is running beautifully!
It runs cooler than my Z3 too!
I got this thing too and i dont know if take it back to support... I started to noticed it up when i disabled fingertip sensor to unlock it just to check some stuff.
So maybe its my paranoia lol

Are you talking about the power button not coming back up? Our the stake clicking sound?
Update in my situation
Since the initial problem, it had not happened or repeated again, so I can say that it has worn in nicely.

In the clicking sound
The Power button is clicky. It is not a fault!
The clicking sound is normal but even mine got stuck once, had to press it a few times to get it to come back up. Yours certainly wasn't an isolated incident.
I have been in a shop checking a new one and the button doesnt need to press so much like mine one. The girl has said me that if i send it to support they wont do anything to the phone because it does work well. Its just a little diference touch...
I will send it to support in december that i wil get a phone from a friend so i can use it while the checking thing
I have a gold Z5 (I know!)
They power button slipped downwards under the casing as I used it. EE were actually really helpful for once and replaced it as I'd only had it 4 weeks. Unfortunately the replacement phone has the same issue. It doesn't affect the function of the button at all, I just worry that it will slide down too far into the body and not come up again.
I don't think EE will replace it again as the guy was very nice and tried a few different ways to log the problem until it was accepted for replacement. It seems to be a problem for a few people, but as long as it keeps working I'm not too fussed! Just thought I'd mention it so anyone else with the same issue doesn't feel alone ?
I am having the same problem, Z5 gold rev2, got the phone on 5th february, wich is now 11 days old, power button gets stuck sometimes, thanks God I have double tap to wake, wich makes things less painful, but I am afraid that this could get worse by the time. Otherwise this phone is such a beatuy! works very well, but this with power button ruins good experience that I have with this device.

I am the OP.
My phone has not become worse. Everything the same, and is working all ok.
From my experience, pushing down on the button AND sliding the power button down towards the bottom of the phone at the same time makes it get stuck in that position. So as long as you avoid the sliding down bit, I never encountered a repeat of the problem.
If it does happen, and I have yet to hear of a power button on z5 that got permanently stuck, all you do is slide it up while depressing the power button.
Everything is still water resisting and perfect.
To add, I've been using it naked, and it is surprisingly scratch-free!

Just got my S8+ Couple of questions, Basic LED Function & Capacitive HOME Button

Was hanging on for the Pixel 2 but my Mate 9 broke so got this, Love the phone other than a couple of niggling issues,
1. Why the hell is the led charging light staying RED even when it's fully charged? This is the basic of functions of a flagship phone, my mate 9 changed shades of colour until a strong green when you knew it was fully charged this thing just carry's on solid red, I've used light manager and lightflow before and don't want to use them again, way too many config options for a simple led task, have all samsungs been like this? this is my first.
2. That stupid capacitive HOME button at the bottom of the panel that can't be turned OFF! is a pain in the ass, everytime I lift my phone out of my pocket or take it out of it's pouch keeps touching that stupid home button behind the screen and waking the phone up, I've contacted Samsung and they said it's an integral function and can't be turned off, I've lowered the sensitivity to it's lowest and still it wakes the phone everytime I brush my hand across the bottom of the screen, it is really annoying that with all the software configurations on this phone that it can't be turned off.

1) No it is not staying red, it is green
2) there is NO capacitive home button, S8+ has no front buttons
1st - havent charged it to 100 yet.
2nd- that icon is fine with me. Don't have any problems with taking the phone out of the pouch.
So far, knock on wood - im enjoying this phone more than my N7. There is nothing yet that bothers me about it.

Correct, but i will say i've never owned a phone that took 10-15 mins to get from 99% to 100%, i love the phone but i'm constantly catching that home button and it's very annoying to me.
That is not capacitive button but "software" button on screen... never managed to press it while taking the phone out of the pocket....

The whole screen is capacitive, call it what you want but the screen is capacitive like the nav bar buttons are capacitive. It is a capacitive button.
Have you tried turning down the sensitivity of the home button and possibly turning on "Keep screen turned off"?

Dunno man, dont focus on it too much. Mine dont bother me at all. Would not even think about it until u brought it up and still dont care. Even bixby button does matter to me, dont have a difficulty with it. Although i am trying to remap it for something useful.
Home button i seen somewhere where u could diable it. now im not a pro, nor tried it. It could be disabling it everywhere. Saw it in number of apps i have install one of which was BK disabler.

Np.
So far I've tried remaping bunch of dif way and the ones that have worked sucked. I guess I'll have to try the on from n7alliance. Pain in the butt but I have no other choice.
The home button squeeze thing sometimes stops working on me when I reboot my phone. It might have to do with certain apps, because it won't come back until I clear memory sometimes. So it can definitely be disabled without issues. I personally use it all the time.

Haptic Buttons

Reviews are really bad with the sensitivity of the haptic buttons for volume control and on/off. Some people have said an update with better accuracy is required. This is a deal breaker for me and I have owned almost every phone since HTC started. Currently I own the u11+. Please give you reviews here after you have spent some time with the phone and possibly tweaked any possible settings to make your experience better. Thank you.
No issues for me. They seem to work as expected, though I rarely use the buttons. I am failing to understand why the reviewers are making such a big deal of this. Mkbhd's review seems spot on to me...
I'm playing around since a week with my U12. Can't find a sensitivity of the buttons that fits my needs...
My index finger touches the On/off button every second time I use the phone...don't know why they installed the button so deep...(or my hand is to big )
When I'm in the YouTube App or PubG in Landscape mode, the volume and power buttons doesn't work...
I'm a realy fan of HTC and owned all HTC flagships since the diamond...but that buttons drives me crazy!!!
Hope for an update
So far, I have no issues with the buttons. I went into it know that they weren't real buttons and didn't expect them to act as such.
No issues with the buttons for me either.
Here also no issues.
Grtz
Everything working as expected on my end as well. No issues at all.
Sent from my HTC U12+ using XDA Labs
I have just one issue with them, that sometimes they react if I touch the phone without even touching the buttons. For example I grab my phone (on the lower part) and suddenly my volume is all the way down.
Also if you have edge sense enabled, and you just pick up the phone you sometimes have the blue dots (to indicate that you're "pressing" the phone) visible - without actually pressing it. The dots go away shortly after you do something on the phone .... as if they calibrate itself or sth.
I have u12 plus for 12 days. For my use the haptics buttons are a real disgusting. In particular the power button. An involuntary light pressure is enough to turn off the display. Really unnerving. Every day makes me curse this thing. I'm waiting for an update, if htc does not fix these buttons, I'll sell the phone absolutely. Unfortunately, if htc fails it will only be because of him and of these useless experiments.

I have the same issue with my buttons, I'll be holding the phone below the power button and it will trigger the screen on or off. Also I noticed sometimes depending how i'm holding the phone I can't get the power button to react. This is my biggest complaint about the phone other than the software being the exact same since the HTC 10.
I don't have any issues with these buttons. Everything works fine for me. I'm already used to it after playing with the device for 3 hours.
Sent from my HTC U12+ using XDA Labs
Today i've received mine U12+ and I don't really understand why reviews complain about those buttons. They are fine really, when I press I fell haptic feedback. They are neither too easy or too hard to press, for me they are fine =)
I STILL have no issues with the buttons. I don't really use the power button to turn the screen on. I use the fingerprint sensor or a swipe. Volume button works great for me.
I've bumped the power button while using the phone, sure. Not exactly an issue to rage over for me.
My only confusion is that the button presses feel like a linear actuator (Taptic Engine), but the rest of the system's haptic feed back feels like a normal spinning weighted motor.
Hi, i have also Problems with the volume Buttons. They working like charme. But they dont working right in landscape Mode if there is any contact with my Fingers/hand on the display. I think the Buttons are being ignored if the "3 Finger gestures" is on limit.. Can anyone proof this?

Just tried to go in landscape mode, put my thumb on the screen and tried to change the volume buttons up/down and turn the screen off with power button. The buttons didn't recognise the presstouch here either. Don't think that's a problem though, but build in to the software.

Nearly every review before the phone was released: The buttons are horrible! Don't buy! Don't buy! The buttons stink! Why did they change them?! They're horrible! This is stupid! Don't buy!!
Nearly everyone who owns the U12+: What the *$% was the fuss about? The buttons work fine! Took me a few hours to get used to it, but I've got no real problems! They work just like regular buttons! Don't "not buy" just because you're afraid the buttons suck!
I mean ... do you think the initial//review devices were REALLY that bad and there was this huuuuuge improvement before the device was released to the public, or people just don't like change, or do they just have ulterior motives?
I get it's an $800 flagship with no headphone jack and rear glass with no wireless charging (but QC4!), but this phone has been EVERYTHING I was hoping it would be -- premium device with no notch, above-average speakers, IP68, sd card, snappy fingerprint scanner, bootloader unlockable and killer cameras. No buyers remorse here!
Well, I really don't get why reviewers are so mad about those buttons. If you wanted this phone because it's a complete package (well... almost, no Qi charging), don't let the button "problem" (at least for reviewers) drive you away. It's a great phone and my only grief is the lack of 3,5mm jack but I knew that it won't be here....

I have the U12+ now for 2 weeks and got used to the buttons. I mean, yes they could be a bit more responsive and i think HTC will fix that with an Update. If not, i am sure someone on XDA will. I really dont understand the bad reviews. No Notch, for real? Like it would make a phone that much better. No 3,5mm? Nothing special these days, get used to it. My battery on averange usage is great. I do watch Netflix, use Whatsapp, listen to Spotify and take here and there some pictures. I get 1,5 - 2 days battery. I am not a huge HTC fanboy but also cant denide that i really like what they did with the HTC 10 and M7. Its something new, wasnt there before and it doesnt mean its that bad, just give it some time to get used to it. Hope they fix some small issues with Android P Update. I would like to set the sensitivity for the buttons in the settings.
Sorry for my english
Everything works well here. Buttons and even the double tap for one hand operation no problem.
